This was a fun, beachy kids book. I like the fact that the authors used the names of their kids as the characters, and I like how a child can learn new things about animals by reading this book.

I absolutely loved this book. Not only was it an engaging story, but also enjoyed the "fun facts" scattered throughout. I also appreciated how Carlos and Alexa captured the characteristics of children, from wanting to find the "perfect gift", curiosity, a love of adventure, imagination, etc. My daughter enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

A wonderful story of siblings in a beautiful setting of Hawaii. The illustrations are bright and engaging, and the vocabulary native to Hawaii really helped bring the island to the reader.

Ocean's World was inspired by Carlos and Alexa PenaVega's first child, Ocean, as well as their home in Hawaii. Two brothers, Kingston and Ocean, want to find their mother her favourite shell to give her for her birthday. They head out with their dog to look, ending up snorkeling in the ocean. Along the way, they find many other things and observe various animals as well. The story is set on the island of Maui and throughout the story are facts about the various animals and nature. There are also some Hawaiian words. I think what we liked the most were the wonderful illustrations. They were large, vibrant, full of action and detail. The story was okay, but it didn't flow as smoothly as I like when reading aloud to my grandchildren. We enjoyed this book and recommend it to schools and teachers, especially when teaching about the sea and it's environment.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Ocean and Kingston are two brothers who live by the beach and love going on adventures! It's their mother's birthday and they're ready to go on a quest to find her the best sunrise shell as a gift. During their journey, the two little brothers explore sea life, find a rumbling volcano and learn a lot of new things throughout the process. The book is a work of fiction but it has some "fun fact" boxes for educational purposes as well, I really loved this addition! The art is beautiful and will definitely catch 4 to 6 year old kids' attention! Great bedtime story material.

Ocean's World by Alexa and Carlos PenaVaga tells a sweet story about two sons on an adventure through Hawaii trying to get their Mom a special seashell for her birthday. I love the pictures and the story. As the boys are on their adventure there are facts about Hawaii's culture and environment on just about every page of the book. Not only do readers enjoy a fun story, but they are learning as well! I think Ocean's World by Alexa and Carlos PenaVaga is a fun book to read at any age or setting. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read this book. My review is also on Goodreads.

I have been a fan of Carlos and Alexa for a while so when I saw that they came out with this I knew I wanted to check it out and I’m so glad I did. We read this so many times before bed and my kids just loved it. Such a cute story line and a fun little adventure story.

Unless you live near an ocean, your children probably do not know much about ocean life. In Ocean’s World, Carlos and Alexa Penavega take readers to Hawaii to learn more about the ocean. Almost every page includes a non fiction fact about a creature or land feature in Hawaii that is represented in the story.
One concern I have with the story is that two apparently young boys go to the ocean without parental/adult supervision even to the point of going surfing and snorkeling without an adult.
Keirsten Eagan’s illustrations are cute but a bit like cartoon artwork. I would have liked to see more realistic illustrations. The facts included in the book combined with realistic illustrations could have made this book even better - providing non fiction information for young readers.
Ocean’s World could find a place in the picture book section of a k-12 Christian school library.
I received a complimentary copy of Ocean’s World. This is my honest review.

Looking for another adorable picture book to give to someone in your family at Christmas time? Ocean's World written and inspired by their children is a family tale of sibling love from the PenaVega family. Most people will remember Carlos from the band Bigtime Rush and Alexa from movies like Spy Kids and Sleepover. The pair eventually married and now have three children - Ocean, Kingston, and Rio which were the inspiration for this book Ocean's World. The book starts with it being a birthday party and Ocean and Kingston want to get a present for their mum and so they head out to search for her favourite seashell - the sunshine shell which is a rare shell. As the pair head out on their adventure to search for the shell, they will come across several sea characters from turtles to dolphins. Sprinkled throughout the book are also some great random ocean facts. Ocean's World is a great book about sibling and family love as well as a fun marine adventure. This book is set in Hawaii and contains some Hawaiian language. The illustrations created by Kiersten Egan were also wonderful and made the story.
This picture book is perfect for children aged 4-9 years old.

Thank you to the authors, Thomas Nelson Children's Books and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I wanted to love this children's book about the adventures of two brothers, centering on the island of Maui in Hawaii. The illustrations are vibrantly beautiful, there are lots of facts about Hawaii and beach/ocean life and the story of how the two siblings interact is a lovely example. But. I found it troublesome how many fairly dangerous things the two very young brothers get up to, seemingly without any kind of supervision. I also found the "fun facts" disturbed the flow of the story and wish that had been done a bit differently

Ocean and Kingston are adventurous brothers living with their family on the island of Maui in Hawaii. We get to follow a day in their lives where Ocean and Kingston search for a special shell, the sunrise shell, to give their mother for her birthday. The knowledgeably search the shore, the surf, tidal pools and even the grand Haleakalā crater, knowing when to respectfully watch from afar and when it's safe to explore among the fauna.

I love everything about this little book. Their family embraces the land and the creatures that inhabit it with the utmost respect. As the adventure progresses, we get little nuggets of information about the land and the animals that inhabit it. It's all so harmonious and gives such a sense of well-being, you want to be living there with them, caring for nature and embedding yourself in it, just like they do.

I want to be Ocean. His world and his worldview are pretty darned perfect.

This is an adorable children's book. All the pictures are great for kids and it gives so many facts about Hawaii. I read this book to my girls and they loved it. Usually my youngest loses interest quickly but she stayed with us the whole time. I loved that there was a pronunciation guide on all the Hawaiian words.
