Make it a movie, a fun romatic rom-com with interesting narrative and characters. Rooting for them the whole time and desperately holding and hoping for the happy ending. I loved this story so much and cant wait to give it as a gift to girlfiends, would make a fun book club pick and totally see Hello Sunshine picking this up.

Very solid rom-com! I really liked the unique concept of how they met and I thought it was a great story overall! The ending was a bit of a letdown and felt a bit rushed. In my opinion, the last few sentences could have been drawn out a bit more but overall I really liked this!
The meet cute in this book can be in some of the top 10 meet cutes i’ve seen. It’s a great idea. Should we start answering unknown numbers now? could this be a thing? No, its always annoying telemarketers or bankers, but good for Hannah that it turned out ok for her. Although some of Hannah’s decisions were questionable and infuriating, all in this is a super sweet book and definitely pushing the fate concept to extremes! An unexpected great read and one I would highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley, Random House and Elle Cook for the opportunity to read my first ARC!
I loved this story. It felt more than just a romance, focusing on other concepts such as life/death, and becoming a better version of yourself. I thought this would be a lighthearted story with Hannah and Davey meeting in London and everything falling into place. But when something happened, I realized it was not going to be like that at all. I didn’t like a tangent the story went on with an unlikeable character (but i think it was the point of it) making the story feel so long. I liked how we started to get Davey’s POV in the story later on, even though i wish we got it for certain scenes too. I loved how things came together at the end of the story in general, but i wasn’t a fan of the last few pages and where the story literally ended. it felt unfinished and left me wanting more!!! but overall i really liked this story and made me reflect on my own life at times.
The Man I Never Met by Elle Cook is based on a cute premise, but as I read I didn't connect with any of the characters. After a while my interest waned and it was a DNF for me. Other people have loved this book, so perhaps it just wasn't a good match for my tastes.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for my review.
Thank you to the publisher for giving me a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book was amazing! It follows Hannah, a British woman who works in marketing. One day, she receives a call from an American number and decided to answer it. That’s how she meets Davey, a man from Texas trying to get a job in England.
The two begin a long distance friendship. They talk and text all the time. They also decide to meet up in a few weeks when Davey officially moves to England. But he never shows at the airport.
I did not expect the reasoning and I was blown away by how the story progressed. The story was dual POV, which I always enjoy because I need to know what the hero thinks of the heroine, although it did focus primarily on Hannah’s POV.
My only critique was the pacing. The beginning was good but there were slow moments in the middle. However, the ending was amazing and I absolutely loved when they finally met. (I almost said reunion but they hadn’t met at that point).
I loved this book and I recommend getting yourself a copy. I recommend going in blind but there are potential trigger warnings, so please be careful.
I’m a sucker for a tragic romance, throw in it taking almost the entire book for them to get together, and set it in England and I’m sold 😅 dropping a half star because I really wanted Hannah to take some agency in her life!
This book started out so good. I loved how their relationship started with a wrong number phone call. Once Davey didn’t make it to England, the story started to drag on. It was frustrating. The ending felt a little too rushed in my opinion. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
an amazing story, amazing concept my problem is that one of the characters live in London and if that wasn’t mentioned so many times I would’ve thought it was based in America due to the words used.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was simply delightful. I loved the characters and their relationships and their genuine care and concern for each other.
I enjoyed this book. It's a cute romance novel that begins with a chance misdial from a man in the US to a woman in England. They begin chatting and the story explores the notion of whether or not someone can fall in love with someone who you've never met. Even though you can certainly foresee what will happen (like most romance novels), I found the premise original and I continuously looked forward to picking up this book to find out what happens next. I also enjoyed the dual POV and the way us (the reader) got to follow the main characters' journey over the course of many months. However, I found a few issues with this book, one of them being that the ending was rushed. Given the emotional roller coaster and the suspense, I felt like more than a few sentences about the characters' ultimate fate was so needed. I hope with more editing/reviewing that this can be fixed. Additionally, the relationship between two characters (George and Hannah) was very toxic and unhealthy, which was not addressed at all. There was also some fatphobia throughout the story which was a bit off putting. Lastly, the author seemed to over use the word rigmarole, which may just be me being picky (it definitely irked me every time I saw it). Overall, an enjoyable romance novel that I believe has a lot of promise given more editing.
I really loved this story. Seeing Hannah and Davey grow and fall in love and then grow apart made this a page turner for me. I had to keep reading in hopes that something good would happen for them. The relationship between Hannah and George was slightly obnoxious. Definitely one of those relationships that everyone on the outside knows is doomed, but the characters have to find out for themselves. I loved the ending, I just wish we got more of their life together. Great book!
Such a cute story with a happy - somewhat predictable - ending. Started off slightly slow but picked up towards the end. Would have preferred to read more of Hannah and Davey and less of Hannah and George.
Overall would recommend if you like a writing style similar to Emily Henry.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Thanks to NetGalley for my gifted copy of this book in exchange honest review.
The Man I Never Met is a wonderfully sweet story of Davey and Hannah. It all started with a misdialed number that leads to an unexpected friendship that spans continents and across many months.
It’s sweet, has a HeA, and has a lovely cast of supporting characters.
Solid 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
This book was completely un-put-down-able for me. I don’t usually enjoy books where the love interests spend a big chunk of the book not together or trying to be together, but the way this book was written really worked. It didn’t make anyone a truly bad guy. Topics are hard here, but dealt with with compassion and delicacy. There is a lot of personal growth, Hannah really learns about herself but in a very natural, round about sort of way. I enjoyed the scenery, the writing and the book overall. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced ARC of this book. I really wanted to like this long-distance slow burn romance, but as I was reading I really felt it was more about Hannah than Davey and the last few chapters really pulled the rug out from under me on the whole story.
I saw a lot of reviews that lamented that the twist was totally predicatable but I didn't see it coming entirely, so that was a nice change of pace. Hannah's side story with George was weird and I didn't like reading it and felt like it didn't really contribute much to the story.
Overall, this was not a all time fave for me.
Thank you Elle Cook, Random House Publishing Group and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. The Man I Never Met is out November 22, 2022.
I was really looking forward to this book, I absolutely loved the premise. An accidental call, a friendship that started to turn into more. I was excited but honestly this book fell super short for me. There is a twist that I honestly didn't see coming and it completely derails the whole book. The two main characters that you root for are in different relationships for most of the book. I feel like besides the beginning the characters had such minimal interaction with one another that the ending was very unrealistic to me. The only reason I rated it as a 2 star and not a 1 star is because I liked the side characters and I did like how the characters grew. I really liked the beginning and the end was okay but the middle ruined the whole book for me. The only reason I didn't DNF it was because I wanted to know the end, and honestly I wish I would have just skipped to the last chapter.
I absolutely loved this book…actually couldn’t put it down and read it one night! Beautiful, sad, and lovely! Exactly a book I needed! Thank you for the advanced copy!
This book reminds me a lot of a problem I keep having with contemporary romance - the characters are likable, the plot is good, but the writing isn't quite up to par. I didn't hate this, in fact, I enjoyed it - I'm just not sure it was very good.
This book is really charming and the beginning and the end are really outstanding. The middle is not nearly as great but still good. The author has two great characters in Hannah and Davey. Hannah especially is just a great narrator and it’s easy to get caught up in her story. Unlike other authors who often have some awful grating characters in the heroine’s life that’s not the case here. She has wonderful parents and great friends. There was too much of her work life for me but it’s still a minor part of the story. At one point there is an annoying fixation on her losing weight and not getting her usual appetite back which was weird and annoying but again minor criticism really. It’s a very emotional story which I hadn’t expected and reminds me a lot of another book I loved with a similar story but this one still stands out because it really is well written. It’s a book you will not be able to put down and I can’t wait for the author’s next book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own..
