I received an advance reader copy of this book.

"The Man I Never Met" is a cozy love story is about Hannah who receives a wrong phone call from an American man named Davey that changes her life. The book is told in dual perspective, which can be hit or miss (this was a hit), and covers the next year and a half-ish of both of their lives. Surprisingly emotional and full of suspense, I enjoyed reading this one! My only complaint is the end. The readers put in so much time and energy to have everything wrapped up in a paragraph or two. I needed a little more closure.

I was drawn by this cover and plot line and was excited to dive in. I started the story and enjoyed the British setting and story line. However I struggled with the pace of the story. I did not finish the book. Thank you for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

Rarely do I read a book that manages to kept me on my toes and catch me off guard the way The Man I Never Met did!

The Man I Never Met by Elle Cook was a refreshing read. As an avid reader, I often find that most books, while quite entertaining, are predictable. However, I was never able to figure this particular book out. Just when I thought I had the plot locked down, I quickly discovered I did not.

I truly loved this book. Right from the start I was hooked. I loved the concept of Hannah and Davey’s serendipitous encounter. As their relationship journey progressed, I enjoyed watching their playful banter, intimate conversations, and tragic unraveling. It was one of the more authentic and realistic romances I have read in a long time!

I was lucky enough to have been given an electronic advanced reader copy of this book by NetGalley.com and Random House Publishing Group/ Ballantine in exchange for my pure and honest feedback.

I would highly recommend this book to any and everyone! I personally will be purchasing a physical copy of this book upon publication for myself and to gift to others.

I think the mark of a good book is how it sucks you in and makes you feel for the characters. They matter, their decisions matter, and when you can get mad at their decisions as well… “The man I never met” is a really good book. I loved Davey though I hated some of the stupid decisions he made. I really liked Hannah, though also hated some of the decisions she made about George. I loved Joan, wish we saw more of Miranda and Paul. So much suspense bringing it together in the end.

The gorgeous cover and intriguing storyline of this book probably kept me interested, but the overall narrative left something to be desired. I found it difficult to truly connect with the tale or the characters because the writing seemed a little robotic. It was occasionally difficult for me to lose myself in the novel. However, the writer did a wonderful job of creating Davey and Hannah as multifaceted people with a compelling plot. The reader had the impression that they were progressing through the story with the two of them.

The Man I Never Met by Elle Cook was an unexpectedly emotional novel I absolutely adored. Hannah and Davey are fantastic. Smart and funny and interesting, I truly enjoyed cheering them on from the sidelines. The premise and writing were great and I will definitely recommend this book!!

Unfortunately what is a good premise was too long of a book. I found myself trying to see how much was left. The story, once Davey and Hannah stopped talking became jumbled and disorganized. Would have preferred dual POV from the beginning.

I could not finish reading. DNF at 67%.

Thanks, NetGalley!

I DEVOURED this book in less than 24 hours. From the first chapter I was pulled in and felt invested in these characters and their relationship journey. This book takes you through various emotions, relationship hardships, and near misses. I only wish there were some more details/follow-up at the end or epilogue for more story!

A quick wrong number call connects Hannah and Davey. In spite of the distance between them, she’s in London and he’s in Texas, they strike up an unexpected friendship. As time passes and Davey’s impending arrival in London for work grows closer, the two begin to wonder whether their relationship could be something more. Just when they finally have a chance to meet the worst kind of news threatens to keep them apart permanently.

The Man I Never Met is an angsty contemporary romance full of suspense and heartbreak. The build up makes this quite the page turner with an ending that will not disappoint. The pacing of the book is fine until the ending which I feel like was a little rushed. Although the ending is somewhat predictable, I would have liked a bit more drama to it.

I appreciate the realistic and tactful way the author handles what could be considered a sensitive subject.

I did not know what to expect going into this book but I really enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballentine!

The premise of this novel was interesting and I was invested through the first couple of chapters, but I was disappointed with the "twist" that I absolutely didn't see coming. Reading it throughout felt like two different books that didn't find their way until the end. The writing was well done and the characters were interesting, but the story line threw too much of a curve ball.

This book will frustrate you and tug on your heartstrings, but you'll finish it smiling.

I will say, if I had known what the twist was, I might not have picked this book up, but I don't regret reading it. A bit more melancholy than I expected, but it was still engaging.

Would give it a solid 4 stars.

(Also, it was so entirely British. As someone who devours British romance/women's fiction, I mean that in a good way. Brits have a very specific writing style that is so discernible from Americans.)

Is getting a call from a wrong number the new meet cute? I think so!

This is a cute long distance love story that will tug at your heart strings.

This is a timely romance perfect for a long hot day of lounging and reading. (Or enjoying some cool AC and reading!!)

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group for an advance copy of this book.

I absolutely ADORED the first third of this book, but when the twist is revealed at the end of the first act, I was completely lost. Davey's rationale and motivations didn't make sense with what we knew about the rest of his character and how his relationship developed with Hannah. Hannah's "rebound" relationship was so frustrating to read and went on far too long to maintain interest. It was hard to keep my belief suspended.

This book is the novel version of the movie Sliding Doors where fate definitely intervenes as we each have the other person whom we are meant to be with despite all obstacles. Even though Hannah didn't necessarily always push for herself and let things happen that she may not have allowed, she pushed for Davey. Their calls that evolved into a friendship and thereafter were so easy and right, that she knew it was worth fighting for. However, she realized she likes herself so when they got together, she was the best version of herself. This book gave me goosebumps as it was just such a great love story. As what Davey experienced with cancer, it is important to live and experience every moment. Like the weddings with Miranda and Paul and Joan and Geoff, love is to be celebrated.

This was an adorable book that checked all my boxes, especially an unexpected meet cute, fun characters, and a happy ending, despite the emotional rollercoaster in between. Although there were a few slow parts, I was very impressed and am looking forward to reading more from this author.

This story follows characters Hannah and Davey as they form a special connection through the phone over one misdialed call from Davey's end. The title of this book is quite literal as Hannah and Davey know each other, but don't really "know" each other when it comes to physical terms. This books shows both of their point of views in how they go about their life with and without each other. It's about love, loss, grief, finding yourself, connecting with others, and friendships; it covers all of it.
I do think, in life, it's important to have that close group of friends that care about you no matter the trials in your life. I didn't really see this book as your typical romance book (only towards the very end), but more as a read to learn a lesson from. Check in on your friends, be happy for them, support them in their needs. When love fails you, you know you'll at least have a support group that you can rely on.
I have to rate it as a 3.5 out of 5 because I think I was expecting a little more, but it was still a lovely read. There were definitely moments that I didn't see coming and had me intrigued, but others were not. At first, I thought it was kind of slow, but it did start to pick up and, mainly, towards the end that's when I was really sucked in. I am pleased with the ending, but I do wish that we had more. I am an epilogue kind of girl so I wish we knew what happens after.
Overall, I enjoyed reading it, but it did take me about 5 days which is longer than other books I've read. The only reason was because, like I said, I thought it was kind of slow through the beginning, but I didn't want to give up on it. And I'm actually glad that I didn't.

This book felt like a good 90’s romcom to me! Reminds me a tad of You’ve Got Mail mixed with Sleepless In Seattle. This is my first book that I’ve read where it starts with a wrong phone number. I was hooked from the beginning and I loved the flow of this book. I loved how there was a bit of everything - holiday fling, second chance, friends to lovers, long distance, and sworn off love. The main characters have a lot of growth throughout the book, which I loved. I honestly didn’t want to put it down because I needed to know how it ended.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House

The Man I Never Met was not what I anticipated, but it was great nonetheless! At its core this book was a story of fate, second chances, and soulmates. The writing itself was fantastic, but the story as a whole was extremely slow paced, and it focused more on the two main characters as individuals than I had anticipated going into it. Despite the pacing, the book had me on a roller coaster of emotions from the start and had a few twists that I never saw coming. I appreciate that the story was not so much a will they won’t they kind of thing, but I would’ve loved to get to see more of Hannah and Davey’s lives together. Overall a good read, and a definite recommendation in the future!

Loved it and couldn’t put it down! The long distance relationship reminded me of my own love story so it was a great piece of fiction to dive into!
