This book was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. There were so many parts of this book that I wanted to yell at the author putting me through this "will they, won't they" over and over and over. But I loved it.
This wasn't your typical cutesy rom-com like I was expecting based off the cover. This book went deeper, and was more real. It hit some hard topics, but did it with grace. I loved the dual POV throughout the entire year between both main characters. I loved getting into the mindset of both characters and seeing how much they changed throughout the year, emotionally and physically.
However, I didn't love how much this book hyper-fixated on the FMC weight. It was like every other paragraph she was almost fat-shaming herself, and that was super cringy and uncomfortable to me as the reader to have to witness back to back.
The only reason I'm not giving this the full 5 stars is because I wanted more. The ending was almost wrapped up so perfectly, but then it was just over. I wanted more insight in the lives of the main characters after all they went through to get to where they ended up.

The Man I Never Met by Elle Cook had me smiling and invested from page one. The character development of Hannah, Davey and George is well developed, making you love and hate the characters at the same time.
The Man I Never Met is an emotional roller coaster that tackles deeper topics. It also makes you second guess who go root for. The story combines all of my favorite things: British chick lit, romance and heartbreak. It was unputdownable! One of my favorite books of the year!
Thank you to NetGalley and Dell for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an advanced reading copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. The Man I never met was a rollercoaster of emotions from beginning to end. The story begins with a single Londoner named Hannah answering her phone to find a single American male (Davey) on the other end of the line asking for someone who isn’t Hannah -obviously a wrong number. Realizing it’s a wrong number, the two have a semi-flirty exchange instead of hanging up right away; after talking briefly the two hang up and return to their
normal day, but still keep in mind how nice and comfortable the conversation went. Later, Hannah is surprised to hear from the American again by phone, and thus beings a will they won’t they storyline that keeps you turning pages late into the night!. What I found was so beautiful about the writing in this book was that the author didn’t try to force the storyline to fit how this couples relationship went. The normal reflex of giving in to what we want now- the author helped the reader understand the importance in life of holding space for people and giving people you care about the love and support they may need, but sometimes that love may not be on your terms. That was a beautiful message, but hard to read for these characters to go n through in the book.
I have to admit, I never wanted this book to end. I would absolutely love a sequel to see how things turned out. Thank you for the honor of the advanced copy it was a pleasure to read this book!

Y’all. I could not put down The Man I Never Met. I stayed up way too late, finishing the book in one sitting and I do not regret a single yawn today.
Hannah is a girl following life along without putting up much fight into what she wants. There is a part of me that related to her character making it all that much more captivating. Throughout the entire book I felt like I was on the emotional trains of both Hannah and Davey and found myself smiling like a fool and then feeling angry and everything in between. My only wish is that there had been more in the ending. Fingers crossed we get another book to dive further into the characters we have been introduced to.
This was my first Elle Cook book and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next!

This book really reminds me of Mr Wrong Number, which I loved! It was fun to read the evolution of Hannah and Davy through calling and texting to FaceTime and excitement to see each other. Both of these characters were really fun and realistic and charming, and when Davy doesn’t show up at the airport, their relationship again takes a big step into serious feeling territory. The question is whether or not you can be in love with a person you’ve never actually met in person?! This explores that concept of technology bringing people together while at the same time, taking away the connection you get when face to face.
This book was absolutely phenomenal. The first 10 chapters were so sweet and made me so happy but then the book devastated me and I was absolutely heartbroken for the two main characters until the last chapter. I’m still sitting here feeling gutted over how their story seemed to be going. But man, the book was addicting and I couldn’t stop reading. Highly recommended. Incredible read.
I received a complimentary copy of this book "The Man I Never Met" and all opinions expressed are my own. This was quite the interesting story. I had to keep yelling at Hannah, so is that good or bad? It all came together in the end. Overall good book.
Hannah and Davey ‘meet’ when he accidentally dials her number a few times looking for someone about a job interview. He messages her later to let her know he got the job and they hit it off from there. I flew thru the first 30% of this book. I LOVED Hannah & Davey’s cute messages and video dates. But then the twist comes in and this book gets a lil heavy …then it gets frustrating. Then they live HEA.
I needed more. This book is very well written and even when it got heavy + frustrating I still kept reading pretty quickly cause I really wanted to know what was going to happen. It’s a good story but I just needed more.

I loved this book! It was a quick and fun read.
If you believe in fate or serendipity or 6 degrees of separation, this book is for you. What starts out as a misdial turns into what *could be* the start of a new relationship. No spoilers here but I was definitely cheering for Dave’s and Hannah to meet.
Read the book to find out if and when they do!
A cute, missed connections rom-com about Hannah from London, and an American named Davey. After he accidently misdials her, they forge a connection and makes plans to meet once he moves there. Will they ever meet? Read and find out!
Our heroine, Hannah, is living in London. She has a job she doesn't despise, solid friends, and she's close to her parents. She hasn't been lucky in love, but she doesn't let it take away from all the things she does have going for her. One day she gets a misdial from an American named Davey who is trying to phone interview for a job. She thinks that's the end of it until he reaches back out to tell her he got it and that snowballs into more messages, more calls, and then regular contact. They make plans to finally meet and see where this budding relationship goes when he arrives to London for the job. On the day he's supposed to arrive, Hannah is left waiting at the airport with no sign of him and no word on what happened. I won't say the reason why - this review is spoiler-free.
This book has a lot of things going for it and some elements that fall flat. First and foremost, I wanted to see what happens next. That the story compelled me to keep turning the page means that it's worth reading to fill the time. You wouldn't be disappointed picking it up for a plane ride, or a rainy Sunday afternoon, or a rebound read after coming off a book consumed your attention. Also, I like Hannah's inner dialogue. It was a pleasant extension of her character and at times caused the most tension in the story and compelled me to feel what she was feeling at particularly difficult times. The relationships she had with her circle of people, most notably her elderly neighbor, were another highlight of the story.
The areas of the story that fall flat center around the hero. The book doesn't delve too much into the character of Davey. When not interacting with Hannah, we only see him through the angle of reacting and dealing with aftermath of what caused him to abandon London. The chemistry between Hannah and Davey is barely simmering, but there are glimpses of it in the book. Their dialogue is stale and not at all at the level of writing the author demonstrates with the dialogue between the other characters. Regardless, you still want to know if and how they will end up together.
All in all, a solid 3 stars.
I adored the premise of this book! Davey and Hannah “meet” when a wrong number is dialed and start a friendship/relationship via phone and video calls. Hannah is in London and Davey is in Texas but they form a strong bond through these calls and are both excited to finally meet when Davey moves to London for a new job. However, Davey never makes it to England and the reason why is heart shattering.
This book is emotional and witty. My heart felt pain for both Hannah and Davey as they deal with what the universe has sent their way. This is a story about fate, love, and living life to the fullest. Hannah and Davey both grow tremendously throughout this story and prove that second chances and destiny are true gifts.
I loved the supporting characters in this story. Especially Joan and her coffee ratings. This is a well developed story told in first person with dual POV’s. I absolutely loved getting Hannah and Davey’s point of view. This is a very heartwarming book and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these characters.
Many thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Is it possible to hit it off with a man you never met? When Hannah receives a call from an unknown number, she never thought she’d befriend Davey. He misdialed her while trying to interview for a job in London, and they soon become friends. Davey plans to move to London, and texts, phone calls, and video calls have them eager to take their friendship to the next level. It’s all going according to plan, only when Hannah goes to pick him up; Davey is nowhere to be found. Sometimes plans change unexpectedly, and they’ll have to see if fate will intervene.
This is the first time I’d read a book starting with a wrong number, but I have to say it works! I loved the build up with Hannah and Davey and how their relationship grew from a genuine friendship. It was such a cute, fluffy romance, and the story paces well. I truly hope to travel to London one day, and I got wanderlust from this story! I don’t want to spoil too much, but I do like how this story addresses certain health issues. Plus, the relationship with Hannah’s neighbor Joan was everything! I’m really glad I got the chance to read this book. It’s not a typical romance novel, but it works! I’m typically not into stories that have a lot of anguish, but I liked how the ending worked out.
Thank you to Net Galley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for the ARC!
This was definitely a unique story. It felt so realistic and I was so invested to their story. The author takes the reader to an emotional coaster.Hannah is definitely a character that you'll make you think you could be in her position.
I wouldn't say this is a romance but there are the things you expect to find.I liked the premise of the book and thought it was refreshing.I was hooked and I couldn't stop I wanted to see what will happen with Hannah.
If you are looking for something different to read this is perfect!
What a cute book. I found this to be a very quick read ( read it in 2 days) and overall really enjoyed it. 4/5 stars because I do feel like it wrapped up a bit too quickly for my taste.
This book was fantastic! It was a great story about long distance love and fate and the curves life sometimes throws at our plans. I loved the characters of Hannah and Davey. I enjoyed the back and forth between the two points of view. I don’t want to give away much of the plot but this book delivers all of the romance, angst, tears and smiles that a reader could want.
This book was charming! I loved the unique plot of unexpected missed connections, and you really connect with the characters. I love when you can feel the emotions of the characters as palpably as if they were yours, and this book delivered for sure. Take my word for it and put this on your list as a must read!
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC for an exchange for an honest review.
Yes, it really is good, definitely read it.
I really loved this book.. I loved the way they met, yet didn't meet. I was devastated when he broke up with her. I hoped George would be able to fill the void. He turned out to be a big disappointment. I was angry neither of them would just appear at the others door and say I'm here! Hannah falls in love with Davey, a man who dialed the wrong number. He develops cancer and chooses to not pursue her. The way they finally reach HEA was perfect. I stayed up all night to finish this. Thanks NetGalley for this ARC. sometimes you just need a good love story.
“The Man I Never Met” was my introduction to author, Elle Cook. The novel has a quirky premise. The Meet Cute: British Hannah answers a call from an unknown number (who does that?) and meets American Davey, who thought he was calling for a job interview. Of course, they connect (pun intended) and through phone calls and texts, a relationship grows between them. That job Davey was interviewing for? It’s in London, and the twosome cannot wait to meet face to face. But it’s too soon for a happily ever after as Davey’s plan to relocate across the pond get delayed. The two stop communicating with each other until…well, that’s up for the reader to find out!
The best part of the story is how the reader gets privy to who Hannah is with Davey in comparison to how she is with everyone else. Both Hannah and Davey were likable characters and though their attraction was a bit predictable, it was also believable. They’re friends first and foremost, which I really appreciated. The author throws in a few surprises, so you think this is a light-hearted rom-com, but it turns about to be much more.
Three and a half stars.
My thanks to the author, the publisher, and Net Galley for the privilege of reviewing this book.
