This was heartbreaking, frustrating, sad, and happy all in one. Does one believe in fate is the ultimate question.
When one accidental misdial leads to an unlikely friendship and then something more.
I felt for her when he missed his plane, when she found out he had cancer, I felt for him as he hid behind his diagnosis and faced all the fear of cancer practically alone.
They may be fate, but timing isn’t always on your side. I love how fate continues to work on these two and as they heal individually they are finally in another place they can be together when they cross paths in person.
It was slow in a sense, but I read this in one sitting because I had to know what happened next to every time!
This was a really good book, I always love reading books that have a lot of text, phone, email convos included and this one did not disappoint. It was a lot more emotional than I was expecting, but in a good way. One of my favorite movies is Serendipity and this reminded me of that a bit. I really liked watching the relationship between Hanna and Davey evolve. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.
Hannah picks up a call from an unknown number to find a confused American, Davey, who is trying to reach an office for a job interview. They strike up an unlikely friendship across continents as Davey gets the job and plans his move to London. Texts turn into phone calls and then video calls. Everything is going better than either of them expected until the day when Davey is supposed to move to London and Hannah is stood up at the airport. Everything they had planned for the future comes crashing down as they try to navigate the next year of their lives.
This story started off slow for me, but overall it was a good read. I liked Hannah's character arc throughout the book. This book was very emotional at some points and that made it tough to get through at some parts. I wish there had been just a little more levity, even through the heavy conversations.
Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballentine for the ARC of The Man I Never Met.
Quick Summary: A happy tears kind of love
My Review: The Man I Never Met by Elle Cook was sooooooo good! I was not expecting all that was presented. From the title alone, I knew it would be a memorable type of story, but I just had no clue how emotionally impacting this story would be.
I feel like I’m fangirling this book, truthfully. I’ve gone from happy smiles because of the meet-cute to heartfelt tears because of the unexpected and unwanted challenges to eye rolls because of George to you name it. This wofi-ro has taken me through some moods and feelings. I loved every minute of it.
My Final Say: 100% YES! (That is all.)
Other: This novel reminded me of Me Before You, as well as Dying Young, in terms of the emotional response it evoked.

I cannot sing Elle Cook's praises enough; this book was such a beautiful story, and I know that I will want to read it again. The writing is brilliant, the characters are lovable, the premise is absolutely adorable. I just didn't want it to end! Looking forward to Elle Cook's next romance with much anticipation!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Dell Books for sharing this digital ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.
Such an interesting story. I really liked this one. It was sweet and wholesome and interesting.
I was rooting for the two main characters to get together so badly.
Thank you for granting my wish. It was a great story and I enjoyed reading it. I will recommend this book to friends. Thank you for Random House Publishing for gift of Arc.
Fans of Julia Whelan’s “My Oxford Year” will love this one!
Hannah gets a call from an unknown number, It’s an American from Texas named Davey. What should have been a random wrong number turns into funny banter, friendship and then, love between continents. You will love this story, this characters and this book! I read it in one sitting. It is precious!
This was a great romance; one of the best I've read recently. It's a different twist on romance. Most of the book was not predictable. The ending was a bit predictable but in a satisfying way.
The story starts with a woman who meets a man through a wrong number phone call then a relationship ensues. I do not generally read the synopsis immediately before reading a book, so I had forgotten what the book was about. I waited for the situation to get creepy. In a way it did, but not in the way I was expecting, which was a very enjoyable surprise.
I really cared about these 2 main characters. I liked them both. They were well-developed. The dialogue was believable. The supporting characters were well defined as were their roles in the plot.
I would recommend this to romance and women's fiction lovers. It's also good chick lit. Overall, a great read.

The Man I Never Met by Elle Cook. Pub Date: November 22, 2022. Rating: 4 stars. Starting with an unexpected phone call, Hannah meets Davey due to a misdial he made while phoning in for a job interview. Thinking nothing of it, Hannah later is contacted by Davey saying he landed the job and will be moving to London in due time. From their a friendship turns into sparks and relationship feelings are created. Hannah is excited and patiently waiting for Davey at the airport, but he never shows. What happens next takes the story into a whirlwind of emotions, grief, hard conversations and tugging at your heartstrings scenarios. I could not put this book down once the curveball was presented and wanted to know what would ultimately happen between Davey and Hannah. The emotions of the characters were so poignant and realistic I felt I was on the journey with them. Don't be shocked if you shed a tear or two reading this novel, it definitely packs the emotions. Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group- Ballantine for this e-arc in exchange for my honest review. #netgalley #themaninevermet
This started as such a great premise; then a third of the way in the story slaps you upside the head—the virtual meet cute turning a deadly serious 180–and just as quickly there’s no mystery as to how things will then progress for the book. Then the question is, are you willing to stick around and read about what amounts to side quests, despite it being in the service of supposed character growth. And while the book is well written, I found myself frustrated waiting for the payoff—Hannah and Davey’s HEA—and EVEN THEN , after ALL that waiting, there wasn’t much of one in action. The ending was scant and rushed. Don’t think I can recommend this to people.
This book was almost perfection for me! It was beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time and it gave you no choice but to be thoroughly invested in Hannah and Davey's journey. I don't want to give anything away for
those you want to read it but be prepared for same very raw emotions.
I didn't give it a perfect 5 star rating for two reasons. The first being George's character. While he seemed to be the perfect match for Hannah at the beginning he quickly became a walking red flag and some of his behavior was very toxic, but not addressed by the characters in the story. The second reason, which I find is really common in the romance genre, was the abrupt ending. I could have done with at least two more chapters to round out the story and then I would have been more satisfied with the ending.
All in all though, such a great story! If you're a sucker for heartbreaking, but hopeful, romance novels, this book is calling your name!
This was a cute book that really is about the right time, right place scenario. It starts off really strong and sweet before getting into some serious subject matter, which I didn’t expect. Reading the author’s note provided some clarity as to how and why that happened and I’m so happy for the author’s real life happy ending. This book had sex appeal, humor, and some real life consequences, all of which were a plus for me. However, the last 5% of the book was a bit too far fetched and too perfect of a bow to end the story. All in all, I liked this book and thought it was a quick read, so I’m rating it 3.5 stars ⭐️, rounded up to 4 stars ⭐️. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley.
I feel like the reason Ive never read The Flatshare is the same reason why I didn't like this. It was a romance novel with barely any romance. Like they didn't even live in the same country! I want my main characters to meet in chapter 1 so I was struggling HEAVILY. I would say this is more a contemporary fiction than romance at all. All that said, it was a beautiful book but just not for me at all.
Hannah gets a phone call from someone who misdialed.. the conversation turns into texting and then more. I instantly felt pulled into the story. It felt like I was in Hannah’s shoes receiving the texts and having the conversations with a stranger. This story was a lot of “will they, won’t they” but ultimately a great, romantic story!
I was not expecting this emotional of a story. I went into this thinking it would be a light and fluffy romcom but I was pleasantly surprised. I went through all the emotions while reading this. The characters were so authentic and raw. It was a heartbreaking and heartwarming story.
4.5⭐️
A chance wrong number becomes so much more for Hannah and Davey. Davey is an American from Texas, trying to call in for a job interview but gets Hannah instead. She doesn’t plan on hearing from him again until she receives a text saying that he got the job and would be moving to London.
Soon they develop a friendship…exchanging texts, phone calls and video calls. Their friendship soon feels like the start of something more that they can begin once he gets to London.
Hannah is left waiting at the airport for Davey. He does not show up. Doesn’t answer calls or texts. Hannah doesn’t know what’s happening. Once they talk and she finds out why he wasn’t there, it changes both of their lives and plans for the future. They both try to move in but it’s easier said than done.
This was such an adorable story that had some amazing but heartbreaking moments. I loved Hannah and Davey as characters. Can’t wait to pick up Elle Cook’s books in the future.
I am a procrastinator and I was lucky enough to be provided this book by NetGalley back in May of 2022. Now that I have finished it I’m super mad at myself for NOT reading it sooner.
This is a story about London based Hannah who gets a wrong number call from an American man named Dave. After the chance phone call they begin a friendship and it follows the two of them living their lives over a year and a half.
What I loved:
- Meet cute, I never answer wrong numbers especially from out of the country but thankfully Hannah does in this story and its an amazing way to “meet” someone
- Locations, Hannah and Davey are located in two of my favorite cities in the world London and Austin. It was so great thinking about both places while reading the book.
- Hannah’s friends, Hannah has an eclectic group of friends and I just loved her interactions with them throughout the story.
- Holidays, both of these characters go on great trips throughout the story and I had major FOMO cause I love to travel and I just wanted to be in those places as well
There are a lot more things I loved about this book but they would spoil the story and I can’t do that if you are interested in reading it. For all of my romance readers out there who love a slow burn with angst, frustration, and a HEA please consider reading this book as soon as you can!
I'm a sucker for a romance that doesn't take the easy path for the main couple, and The Man I Never Met definitely counts as one of those. I wasn't entirely sure where this story was going (that's a positive thing), and while I can't say I was PLEASANTLY surprised by the turns it took, I was engaged and affected and very moved by it!
The tale of two people who accidentally "meet" through an errant text message, their feelings for each other grow from afar as they connect as well as possible using the technology they have. When it comes time for a face to face encounter, he doesn't show up, and she is left in the dark as to why, or what happened.
I liked this one a lot, and would particularly recommend it to people who like Taylor Jenkins Reid's early books, and the love stories that don't always go as planned and include very difficult decisions.
TW: Cancer, illness
Whew….this started off sweet. I found myself smiling during Hannah and Davey’s budding romance. Then wham! I was not expecting the story to go in THIS direction. Will they get there happily ever after? This could be tough to read. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up if I knew what was coming but I am still glad I read it. I don’t want to get to spoiler heavy in my review but I will say that Hannah can be frustrating at times staying in situations when she knows it’s a bad idea. This brings light to an important topic and I appreciate the author sharing her personal reason for writing this. It’s emotional.
