An amazing follow-up to the first book of the series, though this can be read as a standalone too.
Maddie and Mabel are sisters. Maddie is the elder, Mabel the younger. Both are confident at times and need support at other times. Both are wise beyond their years and share everything with each other. The book encapsulates their day-to-day adventures and fears and frolic while showing their strong bond with each other. A few life lessons are scattered along the way.
Just as in the first volume, this book also has 5 mini-stories. The tales are set around an incident rather than a moral, thus making them quite enjoyable and fun reads. Any child with a sibling or a best friend who is very close, will be able to connect with these adorable little girls.
The illustrator is the same as for the first book and hence the sketches are as cute as earlier. They are quite simple, yet they depict the events of the story amazingly well.
The language level is quite easy for beginner readers. The book would be great for independents readers aged 5+, while it will also be a great bedtime read for younger kids.
You don’t need to read the first book to appreciate this better, but both the books are so amazing that I would heartily recommend them as a package deal.
4.5 stars for this volume too.
My thanks to Kind World Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of “Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.
The second book, Maddie and Mabel take the lead, in this endearing series is a continuation sequel that deals with navigating new firsts. The girls work over their differences together, whether it be through tree-climbing, dancing, or starting school. Join Maddie and Mabel as they explore new situations with a mixture of joy and apprehension. They can solve any new issues that arise because they are working together. The second novel in this collection, Maddie and Mabel, is a superb continuation of the critically acclaimed series' debut. With writing and visuals that are evocative, Maddie and Mabel take the lead continues is a delightful sequel that still tackle the eternal themes of sisterhood and sibling relationships.
The illustrations were great. I loved the development of the story and Mabel and Maddie's relationship. Their relationship really encourages respect for each other's differences. Furthermore, these sisters' story also encourages sharing and bravery. I loved how Maddie supported Mabel on the first day of school. This children's story is really sweet and I would encourage parents to share it with their children.
This is the second edition of the Maddie and Mabel series. This is a great collection of book for young children sisters especially. Older sisters can read this book to younger or it is a great read to bedtime story book. Maddie and Mabel are like most sisters they compete at everything who does things first, best. But in the end they love doing things together and learn new things together.
What a shining example of sisterhood! Definitely some good moralistic learnings here, but it seemed a little preachy in its approach. Plus, what pair of sisters doesn’t have at least one spat a day?!😂
This was a lovely early chapter book and I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.
Maddie and Mabel are way more patient with each other than I remember my sister's and I being with each other. Maybe if we had a book like this we could have learned to be better.
This book was such an easy read! I was fun and my god daughter enjoyed me reading this to her ! We loved the illustrations and the plot! Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC :)
This is a heartwarming book about two sisters who are also best of friends. It is the follow-up to the Junior Guild Gold Standard Selection book "Maddie and Mable." Both are excellent!
The book is divided into chapters and is perfect for beginning readers or to be shared. Together the adorable girls voice their own opinions and help each other out as they climb trees, share snacks, and attend school. The sisters problem solve, support each other, and love always reigns in their relationship. Themes of family, kindness, teamwork and independence are promoted throughout.
The illustrations are engaging and animated. The author includes thought-provoking questions to discuss with your child at the end of the book: Make A Kinder World, Talk About It, and Connect To Your Story. The new addition to this early chapter book series is wonderful and I highly recommend it.
This was a really cute little children's book. I have two boys, of similar age to Maddie and Mabel, and they loved this story. It really drives home that sibling bond, of learning to help one another and share, and teaching them to appreciate the others differences and ideas.
The illustrations are beautiful, and the book was just all over very lovely!
This sounds funny but I was feeling a little overwhelmed because of a few scary decisions I have to make for my future and I took a break with this little delight. The part where Maddie says
There's always someone there to help, really resonated with me and calmed my nerves.
Sometimes these innocent books transport you back to your childhood, a time when things were easier, atleast in retrospect.
The illustrations were really cute and the stories of the two sisters were heart warming.
Will definitely read it to the little ones of the family.
4.5 Stars
This is the second installment in the Maddie and Mabel series and is as delightful as the first book. Maddie and Mabel are sisters and friends. They share things, ideas, toys, and plans. They laugh, dance, sing, and fight but get back together.
The book has a few chapters, each dealing with a different way for the sisters to bond. The last chapter is where Maddie helps Mabel get ready for the first day of her school and plays the role of a big sister.
The illustrations are sweet, clean, and super cute. The background is full white with patches of color where the characters are. It’s pleasant and soothing to scroll through the book. Each page has only a few lines of text printed neatly. Kids will love the bond between the sisters.
To sum up, Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead is a lovely continuation of the first book. Hoping for more from this series.
I received an ARC from NetGalley, Kind World Publishing, and Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA) and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Beautiful book. The pictures are so detailed. My little girl enjoyed the stories and the pages flowed well. Really impressed
This book is so much fun and easy to read. The easy flow of the description, the lines and the amazing presentation fits with the illustrations perfectly.
The story shows the beautiful bond of siblings growing up together. Such a precious book.
Thank you, Kind World Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
Teaching children that it is ok to be nervous. That someone is always there for them. I enjoyed how the illustrations portrayed the story line. The best part for me was the talk about it section at the end of the book.
Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead is one of the cutest books I've read in a while. I love the relationship that the sisters have with one another. They really care for one another and it shows in everything they do. Their actions and their words. These sister are truly kind and understanding with one another. It's heartwarming to see how they do their best to lift each other up with their understanding of each other.
This would be such a good book to read to any younger kid, especially those who are just starting to read as there is a lot of repetition of words that would help them learn.
Truly couldn't recommend this book enough as I felt so heart warmed at the positivity and understanding that is really a theme throughout this story.
It's about two sisters who like to do everything together. I love the way the author make a contrast on them so the readers won't get confuse to figure which one is Maddie and which one is Mabel. This story shows how they took turns to take a lead, or compromising things, or just do everything together. The illustration is simpe and the color tone is calming. Such a heartwarming story, I like it.
'Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead' is the second book of the series 'Maddie and Mabel' but it can be read as a standalone. It features the daily life adventures of the two sisters and their natural yet wonderful bond.
The book consists of several short chapters along with vibrant illustrations, and the word choice and sentence structure are perfect for early readers. Besides, the beautiful interaction between the sisters stands out in each of the stories. With Maddie and Mabel, juvenile readers can learn the essentiality of tolerance, sharing, teamwork, and helping. Moreover, the questions at the end of the book can help them to get a better grasp of the lessons.
Recommended for 4-6 year old children.
The MOST delightful story about sharing and sisterhood- from tree climbing and cookie splitting to dancing and swinging high in the sky.
Maddie and Mabel are sisters, but they're also friends. There is a lot of repetition and reiteration of this, and the importance of sharing.
Charming illustrations, & lots of blank space allow for full appreciation of the artwork and the magical quality that our sisters exude.
Perfect ANYTIME story that includes some thoughtful and engaging questions at the end- I love that the message of Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead is to always be kind, patient and someone IS always there to help.
Recommended for little cookies ages 4-8
Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead is a lovely book for early readers or to be shared.
Beautifully illustrated throughout this story has many attention grabbing details, the colour palette chosen is calming and inviting.
Early readers will love the formatting of this book as its broken into easy to read sections with short paragraphs which avoids overwhelming the reader.
The morals and learning points from Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead are numerous and thoughtful, perfect for the age group this series is aimed at.
I received an ARC copy of Maddie and Mabel Take the Lead in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley.
This is a charming early reader book about two sisters who are sometimes friends. The book is an exploration of the different personality and styles of the two close sisters. The story and the illustrations are pleasing and inviting, Who wouldn't want to hang out with these sisters!
