DNF - 25%

The premise has a lot of potential but the writing style and characters just weren't working for me. That's not to say it wouldn't be a potential 5-stars for other, just not for me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Rose and Star Publishing for this ARC.

I found this book to be a refreshing read as the female lead Dianna was more of an antihero compared to the other fantasy leads and was full of sass. I also loved Dianna’s commitment to her goal of keeping her sister safe.

With this ARC being over 800 pages long, I did struggle at first to grasp the world and it’s structure but after the background and foundations were laid, I soon found that the rest of the book flew by.

I really loved the dynamics between Dianna and Liam - enemies to lovers trope. As well as their development and slow burn.

Cannot wait to read the next book!

Thank you to NetGalley and Rose and Star Publishing for an ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.

What a wild and incredible ride, but let me just say this: I would read anything, literally anything, about Dianna. One of the absolute best characters I have every read about.

Quick Synopsis: Dianna has one main goal in her long life: to keep her sister, Gabby, safe, healthy, and alive. She will do anything for her sister, including taking a deal with a magical being, Kaden. 1000 years of life with Kaden and his crew and Dianna is one of the most powerful beings and one of Kaden’s top generals. When Dianna makes a split second decision to betray him, she is thrust into the world with her arch nemesis -- the thought to be long-dead god, Liam aka Samkiel. Now, Dianna must do everything she can to stop Kaden from reaching his goal and finding the Book of Azrael while also working with Liam and keeping her sister safe.

Trigger warnings include but are not limited to: violence, murder, betrayal, death, mass-deaths, depression, trauma

Here’s what I liked:
-Dianna is the badass of all badasses. I love a good, strong heroine but Dianna is one of those characters who is a villain, but a super sexy BA villain I adore.
-The dichotomy between Dianna and Liam is super interesting because while he is super powerful, he’s so cautious about using it while Dianna is super powerful, but has no qualms about using her power.
-I love how Dianna has one major goal: Keep her sister safe. That’s it. That’s all she wants and all her actions drive her to that goal.
-The ending was a cliffhanger and while I always complain about cliffhangers, this just makes me want the next book even more.
-The sarcastic and sassy banter is top tier. I love a witty main character and this didn’t disappoint.

What I struggled with:
-The beginning was a little slow, I’ll admit and it took me some time to get into the world and understand what was going on.
-Our main characters only really start to exhibit chemistry about 50% in.

While I struggled with the first half of the book, once I understood the world, the latter half of the book was so with it.

Well, I have to admit when I first saw how long this book was I was a bit worried. I struggle with super long fantasy books lately, and the first 20% or so was a fair bit of background and establishing of the world and relationships... but then I totally got sucked in and read the rest of it within two days. I liked the slightly bitchy attitude of the FMC and I especially enjoyed the slowly budding relationship between Dianne and Liam. It had a little spice, but since this was a fairly slow burn, it was the right amount... I imagine that's going to change in the future. And the ending was brutal. Definitely cliffhanger :o Looking forward to the next book!

What can I say about this book that won’t take up the entire caption space? I absolutely fell in love with this book, from the Gods to all the monsters to Liam. Is Liam my book boyfriend now? Absolutely.

They call him World Ender, and for good reason. She is a vicious monster who can take any form and harness immense power. They have been sworn enemies since before the Gods War eons ago. In order to save the worlds as they know it, an unlikely team is formed to save the people they care about most but first they must hunt down an ancient relic that has been thought to be nonexistent. This books is filled with such imaginative monsters, dual 1st person POV, a slow burn of passions, witty banter, and backstabbing that will have you turning page after page. It is truly a breathtaking masterpiece in my eyes with a cliffhanger right up to the last page.

"𝑰 𝒅𝒊𝒅𝒏’𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒆 𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌𝒆𝒅, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒅𝒔𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒂𝒖𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒆𝒔, 𝑰 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒅 𝑰 𝒘𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒓𝒊𝒑 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒂𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒆𝒓."

If you like action, forbidden romance, villain FMC, enemies to lovers, and mythical creatures then this book is for you. Amber did such a fantastic job and I CANNOT wait until the sequel to this series comes out. Seriously, one of the top books I’ve ever read.

Thank you to Rose and Star Publishing and NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you net galley for providing me with an arc of The book of Azrael in exchange for a honest review.

I have many throughts on this. I honestly planned on giving it 5-4 stars however the last 200 pages made me drop the rating. I feel like it's never a good idea for a book much less a fantasy one to have such a huge length since it usually means that it contains a lot of excessive writing. That was the case with this one, although admittedly it wasn't that annoying since Nicole is in my opinion a decent writer, there were still a lot of details that were not needed and repetitiveness making the book tiring at times. I also struggled with the constant talks of physical characteristics which to be fair is something that I see in a lot of fantasy novels. As much as I understand wanting your characters to be attractive constantly bringing up their good looks can get boring to read at some point.

One of the strongest points of this novel are the characters. First of all I am extremely happy to be seeing a more diverse cast of characters ( a lot of black characters play important roles in the story, and both the MCs are confirmed to be attracted to both men and women alike) as well as the characters personalities itself. The backstories are excellently written and the complicated emotions and psychological state of both Liam and Diana really well through out. The relationship between these two was one of my favourites to read about, despite finding some of their arguements to be immature and have no reason to be existing.

Overall this was a fun book to read and I plan on reading the sequel as well.

Overall the book has major potential, but is lacking some fine tuning to make it amazing. Although the author credited a editor in the acknowledgements, the books feels like it needs a stronger editor.

Some sentences were written twice in the exact same way to get a point across at the beginning and end of a paragraph, plus a lot of unnecessary fluff to get a point across. In what I felt was a key pivotal moment near the end of the book, there was a typo of "barley" versus "barely" that really took away from the moment.

The last 20% was amazing pacing, and really did finally draw me in. Also kudos on a great cliffhanger, although I am unsure if it is enough to bring me back for #2.

⚜️ Book Title - The Book of Azrael
⚜️ Author - Amber Nicole
⚜️ Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
⚜️ Some Genre/Themes/Tropes: Adult Fiction, Romance and Fantasy

I received an advanced reader copy (ARC) of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review.

This book was a refreshing change from a lot of other fantasy books because Dianna the FMC was not the hero of the story but more the villain or at least a morally grey hero. She’s sassy, unapologetic and can hold her own.

Dianna and Liam (MMC) relationship starts as an enemies to lovers but builds because of their personal struggles. It develops really well.

I was a little confused how the world was geographically structured, was it based on earth or made up land masses and cities? I was trying to work it out constantly throughout the book.

Something minor, throughout the ARC eBook the text was displayed in different font sizes. I didn’t look to much into the issue to know if it was the format I selected for my Kindle or something else. It was a little distracting.

I would recommend this book to others. I will be waiting anxiously for the sequel and definitely will look for other books written by this author.

I want to say thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.

YES! A thousand times YES! This had every trope I absolutely love and gave me what I need in a book! The slow burn, enemies to lovers romance is Uh-May-Zing!!!! For fans of forbidden romance, close proximity and all of the above, I mean you can’t go wrong here! I was able to connect to the characters and fully immerse myself into the world of this book! I keep wanting to dive back in and need the next book desperately! I recommend this to all book lovers everywhere, just please read this and enjoy this with me🫠🥹✨😅✨✨

Thank you NetGalley and Rose and Star Publishing for access to this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I honestly think I read a different book than every other person who reviewed this.

At 10% I was so confused as to what world we were in. It’s supposed to be fantasy….but “Italian” suit is used. Does Italy exist in this world? That being said, what world building happened? I didn’t find any because we’re just dropped into this book and left to flounder around hoping we can figure out what is going on and who is who in the zoo and where the zoo even is.

Who was the hand? I have no idea. Dianna was meant to be a badass, but she was a knockoff of Aelin. Her protection? Obsession? With her sister was exhausting. The characters were all single minded and had one thing that motivated them.

Whole scenes could have been removed and it wouldn’t have taken anything away from the series. It felt like flowery, trying to be angsty fan fiction from 2008.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley.

Amber Nicole’s *The Book of Azrael was a surprisingly enjoyable read. I utilize the word ‘surprise’ because of my tendency to not enjoy other books with similar settings/characters.*

Every character was very well-written and dynamic, and it was refreshing to read a story about a villain FMC for once, without feeling as though she had no character traits beyond being evil.

The relationships between the characters also drew me further into my enjoyment of the book. I also liked the main pairing, although I found the switch from enemies to lovers a bit sudden.

Also, that ENDING!! I won’t spoil anything here, but I never saw it coming. I’d definitely recommend this one.

This book was absolute perfection! I m so in love. With everything in it. The premise, the characters and the story is divine. The plot is phased perfectly. This was an absolute page turner!

This book as a whole was phenomenal. It was exactly what I was looking for in the romance and fantasy genre. I loved the characters and their complex relationships. This book is action packed with just the right amount of romance. I felt the sexual tension building with the main characters, and I was actively waiting for the next step in their relationship. The world building was done very well for the most part. I did have trouble at times keeping up with everything. However, the couple places I got lost weren't integral to the main plot.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking to have world building like ACOTAR, who enjoys enemies to lovers, and doesn't mind a cliffhanger.

Special thanks to Netgalley and Rose and Star publishing for the advanced copy!

💀The Book of Azrael by Amber Nicole💀

Rating: 5/5⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley, Amber Nicole, and Rose and Star Publishing, LLC for this book.

I have been sitting here trying to contemplate what just happened in this book. Let me just say this is hands down a five star book! There wasn’t a single second during my time reading this that I wanted to put the book down. It grabbed my attention from the very first page and it held it all the way to the very end. I could not get enough of this book.

The characters in this book were top notch! I love Dianna and how strong, caring, brave, fierce and overall the sassiest main character ever! She gave up her mortality so save her sister and she will do anything to make sure she is safe. Liam is the lost hero who looks down on himself. He has hidden away for centuries because he is lost and ashamed of himself.

Oh ya did I mention… Dianna is the villain of this book… well not the biggest villain of the story (cough cough Kaden). But can we have a round of applause for having these gender roles swapped! Like yes! Make her the badass villain and have Liam be the one to save her. I love this!

Amber Nicole I don’t know what you put in this book (enemies to lovers, amazing banter, morally gray character, one bed trope, and a heartbreaking cliffhanger) but I need more!! I can’t wait for the second book because this ending killed me! If you have not read this book go do yourself a favor and go get it right now. I just read it on my kindle and you better believe that I am getting a physical copy of this book (hopefully signed 🤞🏻).

This was such a great premise and so different from most of the fantasy being published at the moment!

It was hard to keep track of what was happening in places because there was so much to absorb. But the worldbuilding was spot on, and I think some of the best books have slow starts - something you end up appreciating in the end.

Very excited for book 2!

I was given an Arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Overall, I did enjoy this book and it was well written especially since this is her first book. It took me a bit to get into it as you are thrown into the conflict from page one and was a bit confused. I ended up really enjoying this book.

If you love a quest and enemies to lovers with a slow burn then you will enjoy following Dianna as she does whatever she has to do to save her dying sister!

I love how so many things happened in the book. I could not keep myself from the book because it was so good

This is definitely not the type of book for me, even as I love this genre I found myself trying to read fast over the many descriptions that make it the plot slow.
