Oh my God…
This book was almost perfect. The intensity the slow burn, my favorite troupes (enemy’s to lovers, forbidden love, one bed, touch them I’ll kill you) 😍 Ahhh and the cliffhanger of an ending killed 🔥🔥 when’s the next book cause I neeed it now!
Such amazing writing for a debut. Book of Azriel is dark, steamy and captivating. A surprising cast of characters and unique storyline.
This book took me a while to get into. When I first received this ARC from NetGalley, I could not get into it.
However, I have now finished it and I have my review.
I LIKED IT...but there is room for improvement
Dianna sold her life and humanity to save the life of her sister. She was transformed into a high-functioning weapon tasked to find The Book of Azrael (roll credits ;)).
Liam is the king of the gods. He is forced back into the living realm after one of his soldiers died.
The two of them together does produce a beautiful enemies-to-lovers with angst and slow burn. (I did wish there was more spice)
I will say this; Diana is not a villain... at least not yet. I am hoping that she continues to develop into one.
It is also evident that this needs to be run through an editor again.
I felt like sometimes was given whiplash.
Overall: 3.25/5

”Then, Samkiel, you will know this is how the world ends
But it was not this world.
No, it was mine.
It was Dianna.”

DNF
This book has excellent reviews and hopefully is proving to be a success but I struggled to get into it I am afraid. I found the opening too confusing and found it a struggle. I’m sorry.
I have awarded it 3 stars as the blurb sounds fantastic and I know there are other readers out there who will love it.
Okay the beginning was a bit slow but once I got into it WHEW. I loved it. The BANTER. The spice. The ENEMIES TO LOVERS. It was soooo good and I can't WAIT for the next book.
I was so hyped to read this one but I didn’t love it but I will definitely give it another go and a second chance for any sequels!
Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for the early access to this book.
Not the book for me but I would recommend it and by it in for the library. And I truly hope it dose well.
Amazing read that had me captivated from start to finish! From the moment I start until I finished I couldn’t put it down!
Where's the second book? I need it right about now.
Finally an enemies-to-lovers novel worthy of its name! I loved the snarky x grumpy dynamic the MCs had going on, I loved their chemistry and the pretences that brought them together. This book is almost close to perfection.
This book is well-written and well-structured, the plot unravels at a consistent pace that has been a pleasure to read!
I'll obviously be back for more!!
A huge thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed this book! The plot was very intriguing, I couldn't begin to figure out what the author had in store for our characters and the plot. The story follows the Main Character (MC) Dianna, who gave up her life to save her sister as they both were dying in the desert. She wasn't aware that a monster would be listening. A thousand years have passed since then and she knows only one thing, to follow the orders of her maker Kaden. Kaden has Dianna under his thumb, all thanks to his dangling of the life Dianna's sister, Gabby, has built for herself over the years. Kaden allows Dianna to see Gabby when Dianna pleases him, these visits are rare and treasured by Dianna.
Dianna is following her maker's orders to find an ancient relic, the Book of Azrael, when the story begins.
I loved Dianna so much, she is such a badass, she knows exactly who she fights for and what she will do to achieve her goal. Her only goal is to keep Gabby safe and happy, even despite the lack of safety and happiness in Dianna's own life. Dianna is one of the most powerful creatures in the book, and her powers are explored in great detail in the book. She overcomes so much, and gains so much in return, she finds herself and learns she must fight for what she wants and deserves. I do truly admire that in a MC and it did not disappoint.
The lover interest in this was complicated enemies to lovers in which both fight off their desire and their beliefs on each other to open up into a romantic relationship.
I will definitely be looking forward to book two and seeing how our characters can adapt to their situations and how our big bad becomes even more of a big bad.
I highly recommend picking this up, I would never have guessed that this was a DEBUT NOVEL.....Yes you read that right, the author went all out for this debut and it did not disappoint.
First and foremost, thanks to NetGalley and Rose and Star Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book!
Now, let's talk business. At first, I was sceptical about the modern fantasy - I usually don't read that and that's one of the reasons I didn't enjoy Crescent City. But to be honest, I didn't really mind that aspect in this book?
The character Dianna was portrayed as a "monster" with feelings basically and that was fine. She was a badass and her powers were incredible. I was struggling at times with her character though - she was very erratic, but it reminded me more of an horomonal teenager going through different phases. All that "oh no I can't think about him that way" reminds me basically of the fanfics I've read on wattpad when I was 14.
Liam was nice. He was still fighting the traumatic events that happened and I liked the facade he had going. It's a pity we didn't see more personality from his friends known as "The Hand".
The lenght of the book... it was too long and it stretched too much for me. Due to the lack of a precise description of the world, I could not put myself wholly into the story. There were a lot of holes in the story and I feel like we barely got to dive into the past of Dianna and somewhat of Liam?
Don't get me wrong, the ending was good. As far for the story idea, I liked that. But the execution was not as good as I hoped for.
I was offered this book as an ARC by NetGalley and found it to be an entertaining read. It is fun and fast paced with one relatively graphic sex scene I wish my dad hadn't read over my shoulder in passing!
The monster brings back the humanity to a God with a traumatic past. Monster and monster killer fall in love.
For starters, this is a huge book. I appreciate the world building the author put into this, along with the amount of back story. That being said, I didn’t really get hooked until about 50% in. There was plenty of action before that, but I’m living for the Enemies to Lovers trope when it gets going.
My biggest compliment on a book is buying the physical copy after I’ve finished an ebook - and I did just that.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Rose and Star Publishing, LLC, and Amber Nicole for providing me with an ARC of ‘The Book of Azrael’ in exchange for an honest review.
Although a slow start, this book is definitely a powerhouse of a start to a promising series. Thousands of years ago, Dianna gave up her life to save her sister, and in doing so struck a deal with Kaden, a monster set on finding The Book of Azrael and destroying anything and anyone who get in his way. When Dianna turns her back on her maker, she is forced to join forces with Liam, the WorldEnder, saviour and King to those loyal to him. Once mortal enemies, Dianna and Liam must put aside their differences in the hope of saving their world and the other realms.
Filled with suspense, danger and mystery, the book takes the reader on an epic adventure as Dianna and Liam struggle to put aside their differences and work together to secure their future in a world where gods and monsters exist. Told in alternating view points between Dianna and Liam, the characters are well-written and well-developed with the reader able to gain insight into what the character’s motives, feelings and desires are, whilst also making them both complex and realistic. Dianna is undoubtedly a morally grey heroine but one that you cannot help to fall in love with.
This is a wonderfully written and very dark enemies to lovers tale, and the cliffhanger at the end has left me dying to know what happens next. This was a wild ride of a book and the series holds a lot of promise.
I really liked the world that was created in this book. It was super intriguing and I kept wanting to read more. I’m excited for the next one!
Fantastic book!
Really enjoyed this unique world- so much action and a lot of twists! I love the Female MC- can't wait to continue on her journey in the next book!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Dark and Scintillating, THE BOOK OF AZRAEL is sexy and intriguing, with great world-building and characters who are straight fire.
I was very confused with this one. I’ll be honest I did not finish and I DNF around 22% of the book. Which I could give it another chance but it isn’t my style
This book ended up being a DNF. Rating is based solely on the content I did read. I ultimately found the pacing and development of the story and/or characters not engaging enough to continue on and finish the complete book.
