I’ve read the previous books in this series and loved the central mystery as well as the main characters so I was really looking forward to this one. This book follows Stella and Lyndy as they excitedly start their honeymoon trip before it gets upended by a murder and progressively gets more crowded with relatives and strangers alike. I liked how the setting was not the same as previous books and how it gave us the chance to see Stella and Lyndy in an unfamiliar environment, especially after the events of the last book. It’s a solid addition to the series and I had a great time reading it!
The mystery was fast paced and kept me guessing until the end.
I did have difficulty connecting to the two main characters though—they felt flat and modern for the historical time period. Perhaps that was because it’s the second in the series and I haven’t read the first.
Stella and Lindy are finally married and off for a quiet honeymoon and time alone. Unfortunately murder intrudes. This charming mystery series is ideal for anyone who enjoys a good cozy.
This is the 4th book in the Stella and Lyndy series and if the first 3 were like this I am truly sorry for having missed them. I recently began reading these historical mysteries again after many years away. I am glad to be back to this genre. I have missed a few good ones it seems.
I really enjoyed Stella and Lyndy's honeymoon caper, probably more so than they did with all the not so romantic interruptions they encountered. Their honeymoon became over crowded pretty quickly.
This is a well written, fast paced mystery with well developed characters that interact with great chemistry between them. It is a good roller coaster with a few red herrings thrown in to puzzle the reader and hold interest to the end.
5 stars, highly recommend this one. I will need to go back and read the previous 3 now that I enjoyed this one, and I look forward to what adventure shall be had for Stella and Lyndy in the future.
Thank you to Kensington Books and to Net Galley for the free ARC, I am leaving my honest review in return.
I was really looking forward to this but I felt a bit disappointed. It was my error that I didn't realize it was already a series but that didn't cause any difficulty with following along the plot. I felt like it was a bit long at times and definitely leaned more toward romance than actual mystery. Thank you NetGalley & the publisher for the ARC!
“Mr Wingrove was dead”
Two newlyweds, previously involved in investigations due to her past, now guests in a famous hotel in York where a murder happens …
This book was so good!!!
I couldn’t stop reading it !!
It is the fourth book in the series of Stella and Lyndy’s mysteries but you don’t need to read the other ones to understand this and follow its plot !!
But since this one was this good I can’t help but say it : READ THE OTHER ONES !!
For fans of Agatha Christie’s novels , especially Miss Murple at Bertram’s Hotel, this book has everything you need in a mystery book!!
The investigation, the doubts, the secrets, the clues and hints all over the action, and this couple at the centre of it who just wanted to enjoy the private time their honeymoon would involve!!!
I loved the dynamics between the characters and following the plot as it unraveled was a great experience to go through.
Plus Stella and Lyndy are so cute and beautiful together !!!!
I’m in love!!!
I’m so glad I had the chance to read this book !!!
“Why couldn’t Mr Wingrove have chosen another room, another hotel to die in?”
Lyndy and Stella are looking forward to their honeymoon in the cathedral city of York, but are unexpectedly moved to another suite instead of the Honeymoon Suite. Fortunately for them because the occupant of the Honeymoon Suite was found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning. Stella is like a terrier with a bone and she cannot rest until she solves the mystery. The victim was the owner of a famous chocolate company in England and there are plenty of suspects including the nephew of the deceased. Another entertaining entry into this delightful series.
The mystery and surroundings will appeal to classic British mystery buffs. And, I enjoyed that aspect of the book, but the romantic honeymooners felt smarmy and intrusive to me. I have no objection to light romance in a mystery, but it overwhelmed the plot for me in this novel.
Netgalley provided me a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for a candid review.
3.6-3.7/5. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
This book was nice, though I didn’t realize it was part of a series - thankfully after realizing it was (and not that Stella and Lyndy were secretly serial killers or something lmao) I was able to read the book without any real confusion. The mom subplot didn’t have any meaning for me not having read the other books, but I was still able to follow along.
This book did feel very long though, and I felt like certain subplots could have been taken out entirely. However, I did enjoy Stella and Lyndy and thought they were adorable, so it was still a fun time.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Kensington Books and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
A lovely addition to the Stella and Lyndy Mysteries. Mystery greets them, it’s a doozy!
