Here we have a very twisty tale covering a recent child abduction and the nagging memory of another child who was killed. While those around you are not quite what you think they are. Very richly written with intense descriptions, you will never guess whodunnit!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Minotaur Books for this ARC!
I was quite disappointed that I didn't love this more because I absolutely loved her last book. I'm just going to bullet points my thoughts for this one.
- the first half was SO slow and utterly boring.
- incredibly wordy to describe the most simple things.
- for being a thriller it wasn't very....thrilling.
- there was something about Isabelle that bothered me. Like...just really annoying. So her being the MC was a little rough.
- there was a dual timeline and I really couldn't have cared less about the past. I also didn't really care about the present until half way through when it started picking up some.
- the way the detectives responded to the situations in the past and present were so unbelievably that it probably bothered me the most out of everything in the book.
- the twists weren't as mind blowing like a lot of others thought.
Admittedly I didn't know who exactly did it, but I knew who it definitely wasn't, and I wasn't surprised at all by the outcome.
The funny thing is, I still really enjoyed the second half. It was much harder to put down and I thought it was written so much better, I just wish it was that way for the whole book.
I would still recommended this book to people, especially since sooooo many others enjoyed it more than me.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC. All opinions are mine and mine alone.
One of the best thrillers I've read in a long time. The alternating timeline worked well, and even though every thriller follows the same format, I will still completely enthralled and shocked by the ending. I highly recommend this one, and I like it even more than Stacy Willingham's debut novel. I can't wait to read more of her work.
This mystery thrilled follows Isabelle and her search for her son that was kidnapped a year ago. Isabelle's marriage has fallen apart as a result of the loss of her son and she is grappling with all of that and trying to get over a confusing memory of her past. The story alternates between present day and Isabelle's past memory surrounding the loss of her sister. Could Isabelle have done something to her son like she may have done to her sister?
I liked this book but I don't think as much as I did A Flicker in the Dark. It took a bit for me to get into it and then it really started moving but I was worried while it solved one issue, it would run out of time to solve another which is kind of did...it has an epilogue but it seemed like a weird way to end the book and then put so much in the epilogue. Still a quick paced read!
** Please be mindful of triggers as this book deals with PPD, kidnapping, childhood death, and more**
What a sophomore follow up to a Flicker in the Dark from Willingham!
In All the Dangerous Things, the pace is unforgiving, the narrator is unreliable, and the twists keep on coming.
This is a great thriller with some really tense moments. Much like Willingahm’s first book, some twists are predictable, but the writing remains phenomenal.
This is a solid four stars for me.
I think BookTok and Bookstagram are about to explode with people reviewing this book, and it will be a huge success for thriller lovers and Willingham.
**Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press, Minotaur Books for the digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. My opinions are my own.**
Unfortunately, I had to DNF this one. I absolutely devoured her previous book, but this one just couldn’t keep my interest.
I knew as soon as I heard about this one that I needed to grab a copy and read it ASAP. As a thriller lover, it was right up my alley. I really enjoyed this one and I'm so glad that I got the chance to read it! It was a fun read and twisty and and I think most people will enjoy it! I enjoyed the characters and enjoyed the writing by this author. I'm excited to see what the author comes out with next as I'll definitely be reading it!
4.5 round up. Stacy Willingham just became an auto-read author for me. I read her debut in '22 and it ranked among my favorites of the year. This was a strong follow-up for her. Isabelle Drake is living a nightmare, literally. Her 18 month old son was taken from his crib one year ago. And she hasn't slept since. I learned so much about sleep deprivation, the real type of sleep deprivation when you never sleep and the changes your body goes through including micro-sleeps. I could literally feel the scratchy red eyes as I read into the night. Willingham has produced a tension packed page turner that had me guessing until almost the end. Bravo! Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an early release e-copy in exchange for my honest opinion. All the Dangerous Things will be available on 1/10/23.
I found this one to be a slow burn that really picked up about half way in. The tropes of unreliable narrator and dual timelines really worked well to propel this to a surprising ending. It’s scary how Willingham can really highlight how you can’t trust anyone and the bad guy can be hiding in plain sight. All the Dangerous Things was a great read.
I loved this thriller! It was full of twists and turns, and a jaw-dropping plot twist at the end. The entire delivery of this book was exactly what I needed.
Stacy Willingham is quickly becoming one of my favorite thriller authors! She cleverly weaves details throughout her books creating so much suspense! Thank you NetGalley and Minotaur Books for my advanced digital copy.
All the Dangerous Things is a dual timeline thriller telling the story of Isabelle Drake, a mother whose son was taken from his crib the year before. Since his disappearance, Isabelle has only been able to take "micro-naps" leaving her wide awake in the middle of the night obsessing over her son's case. Isabelle meets a true crime podcaster named Waylon who wants to interview her, but while they're working together, he seems to know more than he's letting on. As she shares more of her story with him, she worries that secrets from her past will come to the surface and her insomnia is making it hard to trust anyone, including herself. Even when it feels like there isn't any hope, Isabelle refuses to give up her search for her son.
I had this mystery solved about 2/3 of the way through the book, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment as I finished it up. I'm wrong so often when reading thrillers, that it feels really good to finally be right! Willingham's writing is so much fun to read and I love piecing together the clues she weaves throughout her books. It's described as a slow-burn thriller, but I was hooked from start to finish and didn't want to put it down. I had both the digital and audio copies which made for a great reading/listening experience! I highly recommend this one!
What to expect:
•Child missing
•Who done it vibes?
•Unreliable narrator
•True crime podcast vibes
Wow this book didn’t disappoint! It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I kept trying to figure out what happened to Mason, and who was responsible. I can definitely say I didn’t expect that twist at all. Which there were several twists you won’t see coming! This book was giving me Little Secrets/ The Girl on the Train vibes, both of which I loved.
Def one of best psychological thrillers I have read recently! I will 100% be ordering a physical copy of this book.
Thank you so much Netgalley, St. Martin's Press, & Minotaur Books for this advanced copy
This book started strong and I as drawn in, but then it just didn’t work for me. The twist and the storylines were predictable. I really dislike the overused troupe that is mentioned many times in the netgalley reviews. (Spoilers). The dual timelines and the childhood back story was not interesting to me.
Will be reviewing a physical copy of this one. Thank you again for the ARC and hopefully this opens up a space for someone else.
This one was a wild ride! I'm not sure if I'd be able to read this if I was pregnant/post partum, but I thought it was a fascinating story with good messages too (in spite of being a thriller!). Well-paced and satisfying ending.
The unreliable female narrator strikes again— possibly my least favorite thriller trope. Isabelle Drake’s son was taken in the night one year ago, and she has not slept a night since. Her exhaustion has led to wondering if she really remembers everything as it truly was.
Despite the trope, I did enjoy this story and found myself thinking about it when I was not reading. I really wanted to know what happened to Isabelle’s son. I was glad this book had a happier ending than I expected; I could have seen it going much darker. As someone who has experienced insomnia (albeit in a much lesser way), I was able to empathize with the absolute tiredness that the main character was feeling.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
All the Dangerous Things by Stacy Willingham. Thanks to @minotaurbooks for the gifted Arc ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Isabelle Drake hasn’t given up on the case of her missing infant son. She keeps his story alive with true crime fans and tells it over and over. Now, at the one year anniversary of his kidnapping, she begins to doubt herself.
I did not love a Flicker in the Dark, so I wasn’t sure if this one was for me but I loved it! While it is a slow burn, it is not boring at all. You gradually get deeper and deeper wondering what happened. You may think at times that the ending will be predictable, but not quite.. keep with it!
“After all, the violence always comes to us in ways we could never expect: quickly, quietly. Masked as something else.”
All the Dangerous Things comes out 1/10.
This is a slow-burn as you delve into the main characters back-story, and the current mystery of what happened to her son. All the Dangerous Things is told from the main characters point-of-view as she navigates the struggles of nearly a year of searching for her missing child she doesn't believe is dead.
Honestly, it took me a bit of time to get engaged in the story, and the second half is clearly a better story than the first half. I also found this story a bit unbelievable as how could every women be suckered by this manipulative man especially to the point you steal a baby?
Thank you Minotaur Books for the complimentary copy.

Stacy Willingham is the New York Times, USA Today, and internationally-bestselling author.
Before turning to fiction, she was a copywriter and brand strategist for various marketing agencies. She earned her BA in magazine journalism from the University of Georgia and her MFA in writing from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She lives in Charleston, South Carolina, with her husband, Britt, and Labradoodle, Mako, where she is always working on her next book.
“Someone, somewhere, knows the truth.”
Isabelle is searching for the truth. And her son. Her infant son was taken in the middle of the night, and she is determined to find him. Her past also haunts her because she has a secret that could ruin everything.
The twists in the book. Oh, Mylanta! This was such a free fall into absolute chaos, but when things hit the ground and settled- wow!
The character development in this book was phenomenal. The depth, delicacy, and detail were beautifully done.
I found the topics handled in this novel interesting, and the execution was fantastic. Isabelle is going through a lot, and many people will identify with her struggles.
Being a mom is hard. And I love that this book was as open and honest about the struggles of being a stay-at-home parent, and having your cried for help ignored and how dangerous and devastating that can be was portrayed.
I did not want to put this book down. It was a ride from page one. You will feel the weight of insomnia and guilt and the burden of the truth as you turn the pages.
This was beautifully written, and how this story plays out will leave you speechless!
A twisty thriller that captures the desperation of a mother who is searching for her son as well as for answers about her own life. Izzy's 18 month old son Mason disappeared from his bed a year ago, her husband Ben left her and she's not sleeping. But she is making appearances at True Crime conventions to tell her story in the hopes that others will take up her search which is how she meets Waylon, a podcaster. Waylon's got a secret quest of his own. This moves in three time frames- when Izzy was a child alongside her sister Margaret, when Izzy met Ben, and the present as she's struggling. You, like me, might guess one of the secrets embedded in this page turner but not all of them. And, if the ending feels a bit questionable (why?), well no spoilers from me. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. It's a fast read with good twists- and you'll feel Izzy.
