Satisfying thriller about a woman whose child is kidnapped and her efforts to find him, all the while suffering debilitating insomnia. The conclusion did require a bit of suspended reality, but all in all, the story kept my interest.
Recommended for mystery fans.
Every mother’s worst nightmare - their child goes missing. Isabelle Drake has not slept since her son Mason was taken while she slept. A year later, no progress is made so Isabelle turns to any means necessary and trying anything to gather clues - even digging up her traumatic past to bring her son home.
Stacy Willingham is easily becoming one of my favorite authors! Flicker in the Dark was an amazing book and I was so excited to be approved for this ARC from NetGalley and St, Martin's Press/Minotaur Books.
It has almost been a full year since Isabelle's son was taken from his room during the night and Isabelle is trying to find answers. This book is told by a single character POV with flashbacks to when she was a child, when she suffered from bouts of sleepwalking. I really enjoyed the settings and character development in this book.
Like A Flicker in the Dark, All the Dangerous Things had me at the edge of my seat and I could not put this book down. I can not wait to see what Stacy comes out with next!
I rate this book 5/5 stars as it kept me guessing until the very end!
Thank you to Stacy Willingham, Netgalley and Minotaur Books for the ARC!
I really enjoyed Willingham’s first book, A Flicker In The Dark, but I think I liked this one even more. It was a great thriller. I like how it was told in two different timelines, the narrator was unreliable so you were always guessing, and the twists and turns were well written so I wasn’t able to guess. I thought I had it figured out, but was totally wrong!
As a mom myself, this book was sometimes hard to read, but Willingham did a good job of writing Isabelle’s pain and emotions.
I did not give this 5 stars because I did find the ending a little rushed. Everything seemed to happen all within the last 25%, and even though this made it hard to put down, it was a bit fast, and tied up a little too neatly. Overall though, I thought this was a great thriller and would recommend to anyone looking for a fast paced thriller!
This book comes out January 2023, so make sure you add this to your list of books to read in 2023!
All the Dangerous Things was a twisty read I could not put down! I loved the subtle suggestion that Isabelle might not be a reliable narrator, and the several twists throughout the book. Overall, this story was suspenseful and entertaining, though the ending felt slightly anticlimactic and unbelievable compared to the rest of the book. That said, I would still recommend All the Dangerous Things to any lover of thrillers. I am already anticipating Stacy Willingham’s next book!
A huge thank you to the author, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
OOOOhhhhhhhh SW is quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. I will recommend A Flicker in the Dark to anyone who will listen (go read it if you haven't!!!). Any-who - this book kept me hooked. I love books where you think everyone has done it but it's never quite who you think. Just the intriguing was everything was weaved together - chef's kiss. I'll definitely be pushing this when it comes out!!
All the Dangerous Things
By Stacy Willingham
This is the story of a child abduction and its aftermath. Ben and Isabelle have a young son, who is taken from his crib one night a year previous to the beginning of Isabelle's story. There are no clues and no signs of a break in.
Now, a year later, Isabelle is frantic. She has done everything she can think of to drum up support and perhaps clues in order to find her son,
Mason. No body has been found, so she refuses to believe he is dead.
The plot is convoluted with many twists and turns, but the author manages to hold your interest as Isabelle meets with various people she thinks may help – or betray her. I must admit that I had figured out "whodunit" well before the end, but there is still a final twist that I did not see coming.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries.
All the Dangerous Things was one of my most anticipated early reads of 2023 after enjoying A Flicker in the Dark in 2022. It lived up to all of my expectations and more. The plot had me hooked from the very first page when we meet Isabelle Drake who hasn't slept in a year since the kidnapping of her son from his bedroom. She's continuing to search and hunt, despite the police telling her they are doing everything they can and would like for her to back off.
The twists and turns in this one are nuts. There was one in particular that I had a feeling about (no spoilers!) but the way it was discovered was fabulous. Don't miss this one. I can't wait to see what Willingham writes next!
Thank you Minotaur Books and NetGalley for the eARC!
4.5/5 stars
Every mother worries when their child is in danger! Isabelle Drakes child Mason was taken from his crib. Isabelle and her husband Ben did not hear anything.
🍼
After a year the case goes cold.
Isabelle is trying to recall memories from the night before the abduction and suffers while getting very little sleep. Isabelle and her husband Ben separated after the disappearance and he has already moved on.
🍼
Isabelle gives speeches about the abduction trying to get any information about their son. She is making sure she remembers all those who attend to try to gather clues. She is trying everything she knows to get answers. She even talks with a podcaster. Unfortunately Isabelle had something that traumatized her in her childhood and the abduction of her son brings back those painful memories.

Did Ben have anything to do with his sons appearance? Is Mason still alive? This novel is a page turner and dealt with postpartum psychosis and other trauma.
Thank you NetGalley, Macmillian audio, and author Stacy Willingham. This novel is out January 10, 2023. Karissa Vacker is the narrator and is fabulous. I highly recommend the author debut A Flicker in the Dark as well.💙💙💙
From the very first page, I knew this was going to be a 5 star read! I loved everything about it. I slowed my reading because I didn’t want it to end. Excellent writing and relatable characters. I read a lot of thrillers and this stood out among the rest. Well done.
With true crime being a such a universal interest it was interesting to have a story where the MC actively uses it to her advantage, showing both the positivity and the negatives of media attention.
I don't love how thrillers have a tendency to add unnecessary flash backs in order to fill space. The story moved slower than needed at times, and the flashbacks did make it feel like a tool to meet word count.
So i loved a flicker in the dark and yet I absolutely loved this book. The story is wellwritten and its full of twists and turns. I read it in one sitting. Such a good book.
Thanks Netgalley and publisher

What a rollercoaster! I really enjoyed “A Flicker In The Dark” so I came in to this one with some pretty high expectations and it did not disappoint. The story overall had a very dark, mysterious pull and it was a true page turner, with past and present storytelling. I really enjoyed that there was a twist in both timelines, of which I really wasn’t expecting. My only critique is that at times, parts of the story seemed redundant and like too much information that didn’t add value to the overall story. Overall, I enjoyed this suspenseful mystery, 4⭐️
Thank you to NetGalley, St Martins Press, and Stacy Willingham for providing me with an advanced reader’s copy of this book.
This was great! It was pretty slow paced for the first 30%, to the point where I almost dnf'ed it... but I'm SO grateful I stuck with it. It picked up, had great narration, and amazing twists. Definite recommend!!
ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the narration on this book! Her voice is perfect for the character and read it so well I thought there was a separate narrator for the younger version of the character! I really enjoyed the story and absolutely adore unreliable narrators! I didn’t know whether to sympathize with her for her missing son or peg her as the main suspect. I really liked the twists towards the end and was pleasantly surprised with how the story wrapped up. I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers!
Holy crap what a book! I read this in a day and I couldn't stop once because I had to read till the end. I've said this before but this was unlike any book I've read before! Creepy, heartbreaking and that twist!!!
After enjoying Willingham’s debut, A Flicker in the Dark, I couldn’t wait to read All the Dangerous Things. Isabelle’s son was kidnapped from his crib one year ago and Isabelle hasn’t slept since. After agreeing to a true crime podcast interview, Isabelle begins to question herself as new clues about her son’s disappearance and her own past come to light.
I read a lot of thrillers and unfortunately this one felt very similar to a few others I’ve read in the past couple of years. Unreliable narrators and podcasts have become quite the trend in the thriller book community. The major issue I had with this books was the pacing, it really didn’t pick up until the last 20%. There were some twists that I didn’t expect but overall, this was middle of the road for me.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book is easily my top thriller of the year! All The Dangerous Things takes a while to build up, as there are many stories being told and interwoven. However, it gets good. It was fun throughout the book to make up my theories and see how my opinions shifted. Then the ending still surprised me!
If you enjoyed Stacy Willingham's debut novel, A Flicker in the Dark, then you will love her latest thriller, All the Dangerous Things. Many of the same themes are present in both books including missing children, a possibly unreliable female narrator, and plenty of twists and turns throughout. In All the Dangerous Things, we are introduced to Isabelle Drake, who had her son Mason taken from his bedroom one year ago. Since then she has been unable to live a normal life, staying awake all the time and doing all she can to go through the evidence to find out who took her son. Her relationship with her husband Ben has crumbled, and she's been thinking more and more about her past which is causing her to question what might have happened to Mason. Full of surprises that will keep you reading up into the night Willingham's latest is a great sophomore novel!
This is an author I’ve been wanting to read even though the subject made me hesitant. A missing, kidnapped, murdered, accidental, or any scenario of losing a child is a grief impossible to fathom. I nearly stopped reading numerous times, it was just hard and sad, made me cry. Besides, I had the plot figured out early on, nearly gave up, and then … what? No that can’t be, did that just happen? Despite my endless sympathy for her, the mother, Izzy, was on my last nerve with the insomnia, sleepwalking, accusations and theories. Then about half-way through the puzzle pieces started to slot in place. Took my breath away with totally unexpected twists. Wonderful spotlight on an important topic.
The timeframe was then and now, alternating smoothly between different events. The Georgia setting was well portrayed. But the star of the story is the characters and how easily we believe and trust what we read or what people tell us. Some eye opening life lessons on the truth and the truth we manufacture. The viewpoints and perspectives are relevant and important. I won’t forget many of the things I read and am truly glad I finished the story. Highly recommend and would read this author again.
