I love a to do list so the synopsis of this book really grabbed me (LOL)!
I love these style romcoms- try to change someone to become the person you want.them to be. Its a story told many times but it never gets old.
This was a cute story overall, but there were a few details that almost made it difficult to read. Why would Eli’s family & friends want to give him a makeover so badly to win back a girlfriend they didn’t like and that they knew didn’t want Eli? And why would Leah fix up a house so that Patrick could sell the house with her own money? These would have been easy to overlook, but they were the main conflicts for the two main characters throughout the story.
I did enjoy the story and the characters for the most part. Thank you for this ARC.
The Rom-Com Agenda by Jayne Denker was a terribly sweet read about a man desperately wanting to settle down with "the one". 'The One' being the women who dumped him and left for Europe. Little does he know that fate will intervene as well as his very lovely family. His family takes the responsibility of giving Eli a proper gentleman's makeover by grooming him head to toe. During this makeover, Eli is expected to watch a certain set of rom-com movies where he will learn how to properly woo a women. This, I had to say was my favourite part of the book! I love watching old movies, especially the classics :)
Leah is a women with so much on her plate, trying to make a living by working 2-3 jobs in their small town. Eli's family enlists her support and help in the makeover, giving Leah a much needed break and offering some excitement in her otherwise very busy life.
It was such a fun read. The story flowed seamlessly and I loved the connections between all of the characters in the story.
Thanks very much to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I really liked the romance. The moments between just Eli and Leah gave me butterflies and had the perfect build up before their tension finally broke! I loved their friendship and watching it grow into more was cute. I also liked how Eli learned the difference between his feelings for Victoria and his feelings for Leah. I also enjoyed the addition of Leah’s history in the foster system, something that is not often featured in romance books.
Everything else about the book was a little lackluster. I liked the friends and I liked the possible continuation of a series for Delia and Gray, but the friends were a little too much sometimes, especially Jenna. I think that they meant well with the “makeover,” but that it went too far to the point of decreasing my enjoyment of the book.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more books by this author in the future!
This was such a great book!!!
The Rom-Com Agenda by Jayne Denker was a terrific read about a man desperately wanting to settle down with "the one", ie the woman who dumped him and another woman who didn't want that at all. While helping him try to win his ex-girlfriend back, the two form a wonderful friendship that turns into so much more.
This book was written so beautifully and flowed so well that it seemed like I made it from start to finish in a matter of minutes. I didn't want to put it down!
I listened to The Rom-Com Agenda and thoroughly enjoyed the narration by Erika Schindele. She did a fantastic job with all the different voices.
Side notes:
* There was chemistry between the two main characters, anything steamy was fade to black.
* I'm happy about Blanche :-)
* I want to know what happens with the house.
* The setting sounded wonderful and the side characters were tons of fun. I hope there will be more books to come.
I can't wait to read more by this author.
Thanks very much to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This w@ a cute if not predictable romcom. I think people who enjoy movie references while enjoy the overall storyline. The last 100 pages dragged a little.
I usually love reading any rom-com and was instantly drawn to this title. The premise seemed good. However, when I got to reading this; I did not like it as much as I thought I would. Leah was a grest character and dealt with a lot! Eli, the man who was after, was a mess. I enjoyed her previous book, The After Life a lot more than this one.
Cannot recommend but I know other readers may enjoy this more than I did. Thanks to NetGalley, Jayne Denker, and St Martin's Press Griffin for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Already available.
pretty generic story, read this about 3-4 months ago and have already forgotten the plot. Characters were likeable but not memorable.
In "The Rom-Com Agenda," Jayne Denker successfully captures the essence of romantic comedies while infusing the story with a contemporary twist. It's a book that will resonate with anyone who's ever daydreamed about rom-com scenarios or navigated the ups and downs of modern dating. So, if you're looking for a lighthearted and entertaining read that will make you laugh, swoon, and perhaps even rethink your own "romantic agenda," this book is well worth a spot on your reading list.
This was such an incredible book! I was hooked from the start—really enjoyed the storytelling, I couldn’t put it down and can’t recommend it enough!
I thought this book had a great concept for a story line and was super cute! Very comical and a sweet story!
As someone who grew up watching the classic 90s Rom-Coms, this book definitely delivered. It was a cute, slow burn romance, involving lots of movie watching.
I liked the premise and was intrigued by the summary but I ended up DnF this book at about the half way point. I didn’t like Eli, the MC, or his family/friends. Leah was ok but I didn’t connect with her characterisation either..
Lots of cliches and a story line that had promise but I felt didn’t execute well.
I’d give it 3 stars—it’s a quick and easy read that may just not have suited me.
This is a quick, cute read about a group of gal pals who makeover their friend Eli to help get his girlfriend back from Rome. To help with his romantic growth, they make him watch lots of romcoms. When they’re done, it seems that he’s fallen for someone closer to home.
The makeover scenes are funny and I liked the characters, 3 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
I unfortunately was unable to finish this one. I do think it was mostly a me issue; I’ve been having some trouble reading romcoms that really wow me this month.
I could tell this would be cute, but I found the dialogue and the action of the main characters to be too young for the intended age. I decided to not continue instead of furthering my reading slump. I may go back at some point.
Ms Denker is a new-to-me author, so I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked this up. The cover is cute, and drew my attention and when I read the blurb, I definitely became interested in reading it. I was not disappointed! The story was cute, fun, and had a good dose of humor sprinkled throughout. The one thing that did turn me off a bit was Eli's obsession with his ex. In one breath he would obsess over getting her back, and in the next being sweet and attentive to Leah. But that aside, it was an enjoyable read with interesting characters and I enjoyed the author's writing style. Overall, it's a cute, clean romance and perfect for an afternoon of light reading.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I love a good rom-com and am so excited that the genre is all the buzz in the book world nowadays. I definitely recommend giving this one a read for anyone in the romance spirit!
This was SO close to being the perfect romance for me! SO CLOSE. I will say, I loved how cozy it felt. But I really wasn't sold on Eli in the novel. It's really hard to enjoy a novel when you don't like the characters and I, sadly, did not care for Eli one bit. And if I can't root for the love interest in a romance, then it feels a little doomed. So not necesarily bad, but not the perfect romcom for me :(
TLDR: Overall, a strong, cute, rom-com, but it does drag a bit.
Leah is minding her own business, painting, when she hears a romantic disaster - a turned down proposal and subsequent break-up. Fast forward a few months, and she's roped into a plot to "makeover" Eli (the proposer) to help him win back his ex, Victoria. Without spoiling the book, what follows is a sweet tale of family and love. My primary critique of the book is that it drags on a bit.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was one of the few books where I was called to read the synopsis before diving in. Honestly, it overhyped what I thought the book would be and am devastated that it fell short. I thought Eli took everything for granted and wanted to change too much of himself to make Leah happy. Things got messy with Victoria and Leah, just too much to get behind!
