The last in the Jansen brother series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I’ve only read How to Love your Neighbor in addition to this, and I felt like I was missing a little bit with the references..
Still this was a sweet read. Friends to lovers romance.
I did feel like it took so long for them to get together that I wasn’t a fan of the 3rd act breakup(s).
I’d
I couldn’t get into this story or connect with Hailey or Wes. I don’t know if it was a problem with how the characters were written, or a problem with how I was taking it, but I didn’t care for them. I found Hailey dull and somewhat annoying, and Wes was not the hunky heartthrob he’s made out to be. The first 80% of the story was very slow. I just wanted a cutesy rom-com and felt I only got that in the last 20%.
This was an enjoyable friends to lovers read. It had a good plot and the fun banter between the 2 MCs whom I both liked. All in all I was not disappointed!
This is the third standalone book in a series but you don't need to have read the other books because those characters back stories are barely mentioned.
Hailey and Wes meet in a series of events and go their separate ways but later become friends. They're both determined to keep it that way but along the way they begin to go from friends to lovers. This book is pretty slow burn which is not usually what I like to read.
The conflict was minimal and very little angst as well.
i’m gonna keep this one short & sweet. sophie sullivan’s third book in her jansen brother’s trilogy, ‘a guide to being just friends’, was overall a pretty dull story. i didn’t read the first two books, but this reads as a standalone, as any backstory on other characters is provided. our main character, hailey, is new in town after just opening her dream business… a salad shop? when she & wes accidentally meet in the next door coffee shop, they become friends that ultimately blossoms into something more, despite neither of them wanting love. it was tired & predictable & felt very juvenile. swap ’salad shop owner’ for any other job and i’ve read this book a hundred times over.
This was such a sweet book. I easily connected with Wes and Hailey and I adored them. It brought the slow burn and I thought it was very well done.

What a delightful read -- it was a page turner and easy to get through. I loved learning more about Hailey and Jansen and watching their friendship develop into something more. A great summer read!
A GUIDE TO BEING JUST FRIENDS
Sophie Sullivan, Author
Romance
Hailey Sharp is trying to get her Get By the Cup salad shop off the ground with no distractions. Including relationships. Wes Jansen never did understand the fuss about relationships. When Hailey and Wes meet sparks start to fly and they may rethink their stands on relationships.
This is hilarious book about two people trying to remain friends trying to remain just being friends with sparks flying all around them. It will have you laughing at some parts and loving the innocence of the characters in others. I would give this a solid 5 out of 5 stars.
Just a good romp of a time. It was lighthearted and fun. A Guide to being Just friends is one of those books that would be perfect to read by the pool or when you're lounging on the beach. Great summer read.
Not my favorite of the series. I found both characters frustrating and got annoyed with them in the process. I did like friends to lovers.
I haven’t been reading too much lately, but I did devour A GUIDE TO BEING JUST FRIENDS by Sophie Sullivan. I haven’t read the first of the Jansen Brothers series, and only felt meh about the second one - but absolutely loved this newest addition.
Wes and Hailey have an aggressively disastrous meet cute - and after being thrown together again, decide to be just friends. Wes is not the marrying kind. Hailey is too focused on her new business for anything serious. But obviously, it doesn’t work out that way…
I’m usually not a huge fan of friends-to-lovers, but there was always a nagging chemistry here and I loved it. I was just constantly rooting for them and adored their personalities.
Now, I might need to go back and read the first in the series…
Am I the only one that reads romance series comprised of standalones out of order?
I really loved the dynamic between the two characters-- it was spicy, fun and the perfect balance between light rom com with the addition of some deeper topics. Highly recommend

A Guide to Being Just Friends is such a sweet romance! I'm a sucker for a slow burn and Sophie Sullivan gave me just that. I didn't realize this was the third book in the series, but it can be read as a stand alone without detracting from the storyline. With that being said, I will be going back and reading the first two because I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It's dual POV, so you get a look at what both Hailey and Wes are thinking, which I love. There is a big focus on Hailey's new business and her figuring things out, which doesn't bother me, but I could see that being a lot for some if that's not something that interests you. If you're a fan of friends to lovers slow burn, this book is for you!
This was a decent romance. The plot was cute and the romance was definitely a slow burn. Not my favorite but not the worst when it comes to books I got as advanced copies. I really pretty cute. If there were half stars I'd give it a solid 3.5z
3.5 stars
A cute romance with fantastic characters and just as amazing side characters. I see this is the third book in the series but can he read as a stand alone. I’d like to go back and read the others now-I think I’d have liked it even more if I’d read those first.
But cute and feel good, with the perfect amount of spice.
What a delightful book. The premise is so appealing, and I just love a sweet Rom-Com. I really enjoyed all of the characters, especially Wes. There is so much to love about him and his many layers. The side characters were very fun and added a lot to the story. Fiona is my fave! She is a great friend, but her sass and wit are awesome! I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for something fun and light-hearted. I also enjoyed the fact that this was a clean romance. I will definitely be picking up another Sophie Sullivan book in the future.

Love this romance book! Everything seemed very real- I never thought well that would never happen in real life. Although I don’t know if a cuter love story! It gave me all the warm and fuzzies!
Unfortunately I did not read the previous books, and even though this could be a standalone, I wasnt as invested in the characters and the extended group of friends that i could have been. I just could not get into the book and the people, they were all fine but nothing was that standout or stellar about them. I want them to go a little faster with things, it was very very slow burn. It was not bad at all, it was just ok for me.
I'm usually a sucker for a slow burn romance, but A Guide to Being Just Friends wasn't wowing me as much as I had hoped. For one, I think it would've helped to read the previous books in the series. Although it's a standalone, the other brothers and their partners are mentioned frequently enough that it would've helped get a better understanding of the family and the family business. Wes and Hailey were likable enough and I appreciated their reasons for not wanting to get into relationships. Hailey was a little vanilla for my tastes (her dream is having a successful salad cup restaurant) so it took me awhile to feel invested in her happy ending. I did like the dual POV and the ending was sweet. Overall, definitely a solid three star read.
