My heart aklways sings when I see a retelling and this was no different. Well written with a good yet predictable storyline and well developed charcaters that were believable. I couldnt put this down and read it in one sitting. If you love retellings you should read this book.

I'm a big fan of fairytale retellings and Ashes was a good take on the Cinderella story. The story was easy to read and predictable, but in a good and familiar way. I appreciated the way that MK Harkins presented each character, the heroes quite heroic and the villains villainous.
Overall, a good, easy read! Thank you NetGalley and Victory Editing Co-Op for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Honestly, this book was a DNF for me and that was super unfortunate as I really like retellings. It feels like this wasn't edited so M.K. Harkins wasn't given revisions or anything. I read 5 chapters and it read like how older generations think teenagers speak like very much "Sup friend! I too am a teen that likes teen things" just very cringe and hard to read. But my biggest point would be in chapter 1 when the friend says "He might like an exotic, Polynesian beauty like you" Like uhhh?? Why would you describe anyone like that? I just basically lost interest in everything after that. Also tbh this is basically the movie "Another Cinderella Story" just with changed names and the stepmother has a different occupation. Other than that it's the same retelling except this book does not pull it off.

I really, really enjoyed this book. It hooked me from the very beginning and kept me hooked the entire time!

I'm not usually a big YA fan, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I love a good fairytale retelling and loved this modern day retelling of Cinderella. My emotions definitely went for a ride. I loved the pacing and how easy this book was to read. The characters were very likable and the villains unlikeable. I found myself really rooting for Ashley and Harry to finally get their happily ever after. I definitely recommend this book to YA lovers.
The only con were some of the pop culture references felt very dated.

The writing started off a bit stilted, but once I got into the story it smoothed out quite a bit. Also the plot device that I was afraid was going to be overwhelming was not, so that was good. I look forward to reading the sequel.
