This was quite an enjoyable read, and the premise is really good. However, I didn't really feel sympathy for any of the characters and found it all a bit frustrating. The writing itself is solid, though, and I would read more by this author.
I really enjoyed this book. Great characters, very clever plot. Kept me guessing until the very end.
My Husband’s Secret was one of those okay reads that worked because it didn’t take me long. I’ll admit that while I guessed some things, there were twists that I didn’t see coming, which made it a satisfying ending.
My main issue with this was that I just didn’t care about the characters. Caitlin lacks conviction. She lies from the start to try and protect her marriage, but there’s no strength of character behind those lies. She gets away with it because no one presses her too hard.
Lydia is unlikeable from the beginning. She’s desperate, manipulative, and there’s just something about her I didn’t like. For the most of the book, I thought I should feel sorry for a woman in her predicament, but I didn’t.
There’s danger and intrigue, with the usual red herrings thrown in with various misdirections and characters that could easily be the villain of the piece. It had everything this sort of thriller needs.
I read it in just over a day. That length worked for me. If it had been any longer, I would’ve lost interest: despite the apparent hints of danger, the pace felt slow, like nothing was really happening. It was only when everything unravels that it felt the story had any real momentum.
Nothing bad per se about this one. It had a good foundation. It just needed some more likeable characters to make the tension work for it.
Book Review:
Title: My Husband's Secret
Author: Karen Clarke
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/4 stars
Wow! This was a crazy book! I didn't want to put it down, so I was able to get through this one pretty quick! Twists and turns and not at all what I was expecting by the title!
Caitlin Garvey's husband wakes up from a hit and run accident that's left him with short-term memory loss. Months leading up to the accident are blurry with lots of confusion. He knows that he is married to Caitlin, but yet there's something just on the tip of his memory that he can't quite put his finger on. Caitlin has her memory just fine and is determined to win back her husband as they've actually been estranged for the past year. But there's another woman now in the picture, Lydia, and she's just as determined to keep ahold of her relationship with Jack. There are two sides of a story, and Jack must figure out the truth before he's stuck in a past he can't get out of. Suspenseful, twisty, the best type of thriller!

Thank you, @netgalley and @hqstories, for the ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Wow........ what a thrilling roller coaster of a read I enjoyed the twists and turns and the edge of your seat moments this was a fantastic thriller
I enjoyed this book. It didn’t go the way I thought it would, full of twists and turns of complicated relationships, to say the least.
A good easy read.
This is a suspenseful read. It is fast paced and full of interesting characters. The story is told from dual perspectives. The writing style was complex, twisty and gripping. The plot is very built.
An easy 5 star! I couldn’t read it fast enough once started.
A book involving domestic abuse with a lot of questioning! A man and wife getting back together after he suffered a car accident and woke up with amnesia, forgetting the last year of his life. Relatable characters however the author keeps us guessing who is at fault and who to blame. Would highly recommend and will be looking forward to further books from the author.
A good read, kept me gripped and I enjoyed the twists near the end, which I didn't see coming. Looking forward to reading more from the author.
Oooo I love a good book from Karen and this one might be the best yet, what a rollercoaster of a book it is, didn’t know if I was coming or going with the twists and that’s how I like it, great read which will have you guessing too!!!
The premise sounded exciting and intriguing, and the story was exactly that.
I was able to get straight into the book from the word go. It flowed well and the narrative was easy to follow.
It was difficult to find chapter endings to have a break in between reads.
The ending was one I hadn’t thought of and I didn’t see coming.
Overall a great read and I’d recommend.
This book is brilliant, the story/premise grabbed me right away and the story never disappointed.
I loved it that much, I bought another Karen Clarke book, as soon as I finished this one!
I did not enjoy this story as much as I wanted to because I disliked the characters: they were sly and deceitful. I struggled to keep the identities of Lydia and Caitlin separated, particularly as every chapter switched to the different character. For me, there wasn’t enough to differentiate them and I could not keep track of how they were involved in Jack’s life.
Reading this book, I had wild theories about this apparent love triangle. When Caitlin collects Jack from the hospital after a nasty accident, she sees it as the opportunity she needs to start her marriage afresh – after all, Jack has amnesia and cannot remember anything. As the story progresses, readers learn about Jack’s previous life and how his marriage to Caitlin had broken down. However, it would seem that Jack leaving Caitlin was not a lonely time for him and this is where Lydia enters the plot. She was seeing Jack when he was in Brighton and is convinced that if post-accident Jack will see Lydia, he will remember everything and leave his wife for good.
Therefore, this story is all about the will of two women who are determined to have Jack exactly where it suits them. Consequently, I found the women in this novel to be selfish and manipulative. For much of the story, Caitlin is consumed by guilt and worry about Jack discovering the truth and leaving her all over again. I wanted her to be honest, rather than carrying out this subterfuge for her own personal gain. On the other hand, Lydia does not think twice about abandoning her son in order to chase after Jack and I disliked her lack of parenting skills and careless nature – she barely thinks about her son in her obsession to make contact with Jack.
Unfortunately, I don’t think the writer completely capitalises on Jack’s character. I thought the plot was in desperate need for Jack’s perspective and for the reader to be influenced that he knows more than he portrays. I wanted there to be more deception, for there to be thrills and suspense, rather than just seeing warring women at work. This is why I persevered with reading this book until the very end: I wanted to know if my more exciting predictions would be proven correct. Alas, no.
The truths that are revealed at the end did not have me gasping in disbelief and I think this was because it felt so ordinary and not very suspenseful. It was only the Epilogue that really had me thinking and this just demonstrated how uninterested I became in the narrative. Even when both Caitlin and Lydia receive ambiguous messages, I could not get a sense of danger, instead feeling slightly bored by the tedium. This novel lacked the pace and suspense I was looking for in a read and I found the overall plot to be quite mundane.
With thanks to HQ Digital and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Jack is recovering from a hit and run accident, and cannot remember. He has no memory of splitting from his wife, or getting together with his new partner. This is more of a drama then a thriller but is still a good read.
When Jack gets into a car accident and has amnesia , Caitlin realizes she has another opprounity to repair thier relationship. But there could be a problem. After Jack and Caitlin split another women, Lydia, came into the picture. Lydia does some searching and research and discovers where Jack is after his accident and realizes that Caitlin is trying to repair their previous relationship. During this time Jack has no knowledge that him and Catilin have been split for over a year due to a horrible betrayal. For Lydia she truly believes that Jack is the missing piece to her and is determined to be with Jack. But what both women fail to recognize is that Jack was also hiding many things and was running from his own secrets. Now both women could be in danger!
When I started reading I truly believed this was the same book as any other in the sense that it was two women fighting over one man. The author did a good job about giving us a quick back story and was able to make sure we had all the right information before delving into the main story. This was well written while also being fast paced and something I was able to read quickly. It is a two person timeline so it switched back and forth while also keeping Jack involved in the story line as well. This book has to do with deception, lies, trauma, and more. I highly recommend this for a thrill reader. There were moments of the book that could be considered typical of any thriller but I enjoyed it. I would recommend this novel and I thought it was pretty good!!
Jack is the victim of a hit and run and has amnesia and now has two women fighting over him. So how does this pan out, you’ll need to read it to see. A great book, My Husband’s Secret by Karen Clarke kept me guessing until the very end. Loved the twists and turns throughout.
This was an awesome read. Probably spend just half a day to finish this. I’d reccommend this to those who would love a decent thriller that could keep them guessing through to the end. Really good.
Cheers to Netgalley for the copy!
Caitlin has brought her husband home after a road accident which has left him with no memory of what happened. It soon becomes clear that Jack, her husband, had walked out a year ago and had been living with Lydia and her son, Matt. Told alternatively by Caitlin and Lydia, this is a tale of family relationships and how the public face of family can be different to behind closed doors.
This was an enjoyable read but I found it to be more of a drama than a thriller. This played a part in my rating. It was a bit unrealistic but in saying that I still read it till the end to find out what was happening.
I got this book from #NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. This is my first book I have read by this author. This had twists and turns I never saw coming. It was a quick read full of suspense and interesting characters and that’s what I look for in a book.
