Ruth is being hit on all sides with conflict. She is confronted by the woman who shared the hospital room with her when her son was born who is claiming he is her son. Her former best friend has moved closer to her but is acting like they never met. Her best friend’s husband shares a secret with her that she was hoping that no one ever found out and her husband is secretive and not showing any concern over the woman who has appeared and claiming Billy is her son.
There are many plot twist everywhere and everyone has secrets, lies and no morals. I had difficulty following the time changes. Basic concept was good and unpredictable but it had a few to many twist making it hard to believe and I kept waiting to find out that Ruth had mental health issues and had imagined the whole thing. Thank you NetGalley and HQ for the ARC.
Ruth is confronted on her sons first day at school, the other woman is claiming that Ruth switched babies when the were in the labour ward five years ago.
A story full of secrets and lies. Unfortunately I could not relate to the characters and found the storyline unbelievable.
Thank you to,NetGalley and HQ for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
I found that I had a love hate relationship with this book. If you're looking for a quick read with lots of plot twists, this should definitely be on your list. There are a lot of players in this story about two mothers, Ruth and Eve who seemingly meet in the labor and delivery ward. However, one child doesn't survive and the other might be with the wrong family. This story will constantly keep you guessing about who the most deceptive character it is. Ruth and Bea met at work and were fast friends and so were their spouses Daniel and Finley. As the characters turn against one another one by one, I was constantly trying to guess who was telling the truth and who was telling the lies. Ruth and Daniel are faced with several challenges in their marriage as Eve steps into the picture and has them questioning if Billy is truly their son together, or Ruth's son with another man or a child belonging to neither of them. Overall a quick read that can definitely keep the reader engaged but there was too much going on to keep up with and make the storyline seem realistic.
I was gifted an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Not a bad read but didn't really grab my attention fully, found it easy to put down and couldn't really engage with the characters.
Thanks to Netgalley and HQ Digital for this ARC just sorry I don't feel able to recommend.
I am afraid this novel was just not my cup of tea. Far too far fetched.. Unlikeable characters. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.
sadly I didn't like this book but I think the story idea was good I just didn't click with the writing style and it made me want to keep putting the book down so took me ages to get through it
It's Billy's first day at school when Ruth is approached by a woman who claims Billy is her child. Ruth is already on edge because her friend Bea is being very passive aggressive hinting at something Ruth should feel guilty at. These two things send Ruth into a tailspin and she begins to doubt that Billy is her child and she's almost certain he's not her husband's child.
Oh my gosh, where to start with this book? The plot is all over the place with twist after twist which is fine but they contradict other twists. I can't say more without giving spoilers but it just doesn't hold up. The characters are pretty horrible on the whole. Bea is a needy, high maintenance woman who you'd stay away from if you had the chance and her turnaround isn't believable. Her husband Finlay is ghastly and would have shown his true colours long before. Ruth is one of those characters, sadly all too common nowadays, who just whines her way through a novel. I'm sorry but this wasn't for me. Thanks to NetGalley and HQ for the ARC.
I was shocked at the ending and I think that the author did an amazing job coming up with that twist but other than that the book didn't wow me. The book started off strong but as the story progressed I got more and more confused especially when some of the twists didn't make any sense and had me wondering if I missed a chapter. The characters were not my favorite either and they all seemed very predictable and dull. Overall this was a decent read but I'm not sure if I would read anything else from this author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Slightly implausible in parts, good twist at the end. Overall enjoyable. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
On one hand, this story was thrilling with great, unexpected twists--especially at the end. However, their were some elements that just did not work and really had me struggling through my reading. Some plot lines were really out there, not plausible. The characters were missing their realness and they flat, two dimensional. The ending still managed to blow me away though.
I appreciate the publisher granting me access to this ARC but unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy this and would struggle to recommend it. I found the plot lacking in cohesion and believability, and the characters two-dimensional. The ending was unexpected which shows that the author did a good job of hiding the twist to the very end but apart from that there’s not a huge amount of positive feedback I feel I can honestly give. Apologies.
This was a great read with a topic that caused me so much anxiety!
I could tell the outcome in a few of the spots, but the story was able to keep me engaged and I loved that.

"Not My Child" is a suspenseful page turner for lovers of suspense, family drama, secrets and twists. This book had me reading long into the night as I couldn't put it down and had to know what happened next. I feared that the plot was going to be predictable but boy was I wrong! It's very well written and constructed with a brilliant ending.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, HQ and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
What a thrilling journey, I was engaged from page one. I enjoyed the ending, you don’t see it coming.
This book was sent to me by Netgalley for review. WOW...intrigue...mystery...murder? Mayhem...likable characters and some not so much...frightening...secrets...children...babies switched or not...mothers...fathers...WHO? WHAT? This author kept my attention although I like linear plots...this one worked...I am eager to read more books by King. This one is a cannot put down until the end, which was a surprise...Who on earth can this protagonist trust? Even herself? What did she do and when? Does she trust her husband? Her friends? Don't miss this book.
