A classic now in the English language with beautifully whimsical illustrations, what is not to love?

I have enjoyed Netflix's modern adaptation of Leblanc's gentleman thief, Lupin, and I also enjoyed the book. Although on opposite sides of the law, Lupin's personality reminds me of Sherlock Holmes and if you enjoy the latter then I feel sure that you will find Arsene Lupin, Gentlemen Thief entertaining. I look forward to reading more of Lupin's adventures.

I received a drc from the publisher via Netgalley.

Thank you to the author, Magnetic Press and NetGalley, for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Like so many others, I first became aware of the Arsène Lupin stories because of the extremely well-done Netflix series, and was thrilled to be able to give this book a read. The stories hold up surprisingly well, given how old they are, and the illustrations are fantastic. The transposition from written stories to illustrated comic worked well, and the text flowed easily. Highly recommend!

Thank you netgalley for giving me this opportunity to read this book but I could not read this book in its available format. I tried downloading multiple times, tried opening with different apps but nothing worked. I wish I could read this book as it sounds amazing. Please let me know how i can do that

I was expecting a graphic novel and was surprised (disappointed) to find an illustrated book. The illustrations are lovely but these giant blocks of text are not what I thought I was getting

I have watched the Lupin series on Netflix and wanted to read the classic books that the show was based on. Each of the short novellas in this book are very fun and pleasant, i also enjoyed the accompanying illustrations

Big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read a review copy before publication.

I first requested this book because I'd watched the Netflix series 'Lupin', which is based this series of books. I knew the stories themselves were pretty old but I was interested to try the original works (translated, of course), and I wasn't disappointed. The writing was very easy to get through and didn't at all read like it was written over 100 years ago. Maybe the translation has been updated a little? Either way, the writing is lovely and incredibly inoffensive. I can see these books being perfect for children as well as adults.

I didn't expect this to be quite as fun as it was. It was such a charming little book. A quick read with cute illustrations spanning either half, full, or double pages. There was something very gentle about the images. Like a cross between watercolours and cross-hatch sketches. Very pleasant to look at.

The book itself consisted of nine novellas, these being the first instalments into the Lupin series. I can't say I had a favourite because I enjoyed all of them. I was reading one story a day and I'm actually a little sad it's over. Arsene Lupin is such a cheeky chap, outwitting the french police and upper society with his devilish charm, parading right under their noses as he robs them blind. And he's such a gent about it. I love him. What an absolute legend.

I'd like to get a copy of this edition when it's out. I had such a lovely time with it and I definitely think I'll be looking for more Lupin stories in the future.

I love stories about clever gentlemen thieves and Arsene is an early one that has often by copied but never bettered. This is a great introduction to Arsene and his exploits. The illustrations are perfect completements to the stories. He has personality and carries out his jobs with flair. One of the stories is a light parody of Arsene meeting Sherlock Holmes. I have to say, Arsene definitely comes out the winner on the personality side.

If you have never read about Arsene you are missing a treat and you couldn’t find a better way to learn about him than this beautiful book.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I have to admit I had previously never heard of Arsène Lupin, but as I stumbled across the cover I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful and enticing cover illustration.

This illustrated edition includes nine short stories, but would work just as well as stand alones.

The illustrations throughout were truly beautiful and often even distracted me briefly from the text on the page.

“So much the better if no one can ever say with certainty: That’s Arsène Lupin! What’s more important is that they can say without fear of error: Arsène Lupin did that!”

A big thank you to Magnetic Press via NetGalley for the ARC.

I have never read an Arsene Lupin book before, but this was quite entertaining, thrilling to read, and hard to put down. The illustrations were done well and really cool too!

A very beautifully and humorously illustrated collection of famous stories of a master thief. I especially liked the story where Lupin meets a certain famous British detective...

This is a great version of the classic Arsène Lupin stories. The translation is well done and the illustrations are well chosen and beautiful. A perfect way to get into this famous character's universe.

In 1907, Author Maurice Leblanc released the first collection of stories recounting the adventures of Arsene Lupin, a charming thief and master of disguises. The character became quite popular, featured in 17 novels and 39 novellas, inspiring generations of charming anti-heroes to follow. This brand new edition of the first Arsene Lupin novel is beautifully illustrated by artist Vincent Mallie, capturing the joyful style of an animated feature as if created by renowned director Hayao Miyazaki (whose first directorial release was LUPIN THE 3rd: The Castle of Cagliostro, which is filled with nods to Leblanc's classic character).

I loved this book, It was absolutely everything I wanted and more with those amazing illustrations.

PS: Unfortunately the reading experience was terrible it took me multiple days to finish it bc the adobe digital editions software was a pain to use as a reading tool. The scrolling feature was painfully slow, So sad the software ruined my reading time.

(4/5) I will admit, I was introduced to Arsène Lupin by the Netflix adaption (Lupin, starring the brilliant Omar Sy) and the Hayao Miyazaki movie adaption, Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. When this version promised classic Lupin tales with illustrations reminiscent of Miyazaki's Studio Ghibli style, I was hooked. While this is only a collection of only a few of the Lupin novellas, I thought it was well curated and the short stories flowed together while still being able to stand alone. The illustrations reminded me more of a French style (the illustrator is French) instead of Miyazaki's, but they were beautiful nonetheless and really added to the collection.

Very much enjoyed "Arsene Lupin, Gentleman Thief." It was witty and smart. I loved the illustrations by Vincent Mallie. The illustrations gave the text even more characters. I enjoyed so much that I am putting it on Wish List to purchase a hard copy.

With beautiful illustrations and intriguing stories, this version of “Arsene Lupin, Gentleman Thief” proves to be one of the best ones I’ve ever had the pleasure to read.

Whilst this isn’t a full comic-book as promised, the illustrations were on point and a magnificent addition to the story.

The stories in the book, I’m going to be honest, I liked them, but some of the plot twists were a little bit disappointing, but the writing still managed to keep you hooked.

I liked this one, a lot.

Thank you Net Galley <3

YES to everything about this book! What a lovely way to be introduced to Arsene Lupin.
Lupin is charming, clever, confident, and such a character. His tales of thievery unfold without the question of whodunit (obviously, the answer is Arsene Lupin - who else could pull off a job like this?) but how-dunit. In classic baffling mystery fashion, the solutions to these inexplicable crimes are simultaneously simple and brilliant.
The illustrations in this edition are vibrant and beautiful. Vincent Mallie absolutely nails the emotions in characters' expressions. I am so excited to pick up a physical copy to enjoy!

"Arsene Lupin, Gentleman Thief" is a short story collection featuring beautiful vintage illustrations. I have only ever read extracts of stories by Agatha Christie or the Sherlock Holmes adventures, but this made me feel the same way. For some reason I just felt so safe while reading them.

I also really enjoyed the narrative and the kind of character Arsene Lupin is.

Generally I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a cosy read, it is one that will make your evening go by quite fast.

A big thank you to Diamond Book Distributors and Netgalley for the opportunity to read these wonderful stories.
