This book was so entertaining to read and incredibly informative and compelling. The chapters are small and easily digestible, and the writing style appeals to every kind of reader, whether you’re a scientist, a non scientist, an enthusiast or someone who just wants to know cool facts about the universe. This book is for everyone.

I love a book that can take complex notions and information and make them understandable and interesting. I also love a book that uses footnotes for humour which adds an extra x1000 stars for me, as it adds to the entertainment factor and had me regularly chuckling.

It balances information with an easy writing style, fun and humour. What could be better for a nonfiction book?

Dr Scudder’s whistle-stop tour around the universe was an incredibly insightful and fun read.

From topics like ‘black holes can blow bubbles’ to ‘Mars soil wants to kill us’, I really learnt a lot about the universe around us in a very enjoyable way. Dr Scudder has a talent for explaining complicated topics in a very clear, relatable and amusing way, such that anyone with a basic science background can easily follow.

I appreciated that each chapter focused on a different ‘fun fact’, so if you were struggling with a particular concept, it didn’t matter so much as the topic would soon change. However, occasionally I got a bit of whiplash from quite HOW fast these topics changed- some chapters could do with a summary paragraph to aid the reader. In addition, I think a glossary at the beginning would’ve helped with some of the terminology.

Overall this was a really enjoyable read and I learnt a lot. 4.5 stars from me, and I look forward to Dr Scudder’s next book!

This book is amazing! Full of facts that I would not have leant in a lifetime had I not read this. Dr Scudder has the ability to turn the most complex of scientific facts and turn them into interesting “did you knows” for the every day person.
