This is another great installment to this series!
In this one, we are following Miranda Courtenay, sister to Rosalind whom we followed in the last book. Miranda is a girl after my own heart. She doesn't feel it's necessary to follow the social norms of the time she is invariably curious, and has all kinds of skills like lock picking, fencing, and a bit of swordplay. Ever since she overheard Rosalind talking about the stitch in time she has bided her time until everyone was away and she could get to it, totally expecting that it would take her forward in time.
But she ends up in the past and in the path of Nico, a pirate/privateer whose ghost she had been seeing walking the Moors at home. After she saves his life in an ambush the adventure begins! A bad guy is chasing Nico, a sinking ship, and ghosts who want revenge, and that's only the beginning. I loved when Miranda and Nico are talking to one another, with so many innuendos, and so much sass, it had me laughing out loud.
The story was beautifully written and came together perfectly! I loved how the stitch came into play in this story and the small glimpse of the future Miranda and Nico got has me very curious as to what they find when they get there. I can't wait to continue this series!
I had a fantastic time reading this book! I love this series and Kelley Armstrong's writing, and I love the idea of a space that can send you through time. And the idea that it can send people further back in time, not just between the present and the 19th century, is so cool!
I loved the twists and turns of this book! From the beginning with the going into the further past, to the ghost of the cabin boy to some hard truths, this book had a fantastic mystery, and I loved watching it unfold with these characters!
In different ways, both Miranda and Nicolas are outcast. He's got the blood of nobility and slaves in his veins, and she's a woman who just wants to do what she wants, regardless of what society thinks. They both know how it feels like, and they both knew what they wanted-I really enjoyed their interactions!
The way things came together was fantastic. I loved how the time stitch helped, and I'm wondering about that one flash that they saw. So excited to see where this series goes from here, and who it'll follow, it could be someone on the Thorne family tree, or someone related to Bronwyn, depending on when her family acquired it...
Loved reading this book, and I can't wait for more in this series!
Another great addition to the series! I especially liked that this adventure was a stitch *back* in time. Miranda, Rosalind’s romance novelist sister, jumps back in time to save a privateer (not pirate, thank you very much) who is a specter in her timeline. I enjoyed the banter and chemistry between the two of them and rooted for their HEA. I also like that each story thus far has had a novella so we can spend more time with our main couples. I’m glad to see there’s another one coming for Miranda and Nico in November!
*Thanks to KLA Fricke & NetGalley for this advance reader copy.
4.25
This book series kept popping up on my recommended list time and time again but for some reason, I never actually read it. But, thanks to Netgalley, I was given the ARC of this book and even though it can be read as a stand-alone, I decided to read the series from the start just so I can give a better opinion of the ARC novel.
What an adventure this third book was! I mean, time travel, sexy pirates (sorry …privateers LOL), off-the-charts chemistry, wickedly clever humour and steamy scenes, makes got one crazy ride! This books follows Miranda through the time stitch and into the arms of literally her perfect man. I don’t want to go into too many spoiler details but overall it was an extremely fun and light-hearted adventure romance novel. I really enjoyed the plot twists near the end. Most of all, I loved the playful banter and chemistry between Nico and Miranda. Of the three main novels, this one definitely felt the lightest and would qualify for a beach/vacation read.
I would have liked to see a tad bit more conflict between the two main characters. It was basically insta-love with no fear, tension, darkness or conflict. I think that there should always been a little bit of it just to make the characters and relationships more well rounded. Miranda really had no sense of self-preservation or fear, which does make her totally endearing but also a tiny bit unrealistic. Despite this, this novel was a wonderful and fresh addition to this series. Kelley Armstrong did a phenomenal job making each book in this series both unique and yet still cohesive. I can’t wait to read what comes next!
**I was lucky enough to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley. **
A Turn of the Tide takes this series into a very different direction. Instead of going forward in time, Miranda unexpected goes back in time. This is fortuitous as she is able to rescue Nicolas Dupuis, a pirate (privateer) whom she has frequently seen as a ghostly image being attacked on the road. Now in the past, she thwarts the attack and finds a partner in crime in Nicolas who is involved in a variation on the Robin Hood theme. It’s lucky that Miranda can see and communicate with ghosts because they encounter two ghosts who play important roles in this tale. One is the ghost of a young cabin boy and the other is the ghost of the grandfather of one of the other characters. Upon being pursued by those who oppose Nicolas’ helping of the poor, Nicolas and Miranda discover that the stitch in time works differently for them than it does for Miranda’s sisters. Ultimately, they decide to make that work to their advantage.
There are a lot of double entendres as Miranda and Nicolas verbally spar while getting to know each other. That sparring provides a lot of humor that counterbalances the serious trouble they find themselves in. The story moves along at a brisk pace and kept my interest throughout. I enjoyed their developing romance.
I always look forward to Kelley Armstrong’s novels. Next in this series: A novella on the further adventures of Miranda and Nicolas, followed by Portia’s story.
I was lucky enough to be able to read an advanced copy of this book and it was excellent. If I didn't have to work the next day I would have stayed up all night finishing it. This book is action packed from beginning to end with delightful twists that will keep you on your toes. There is romance, mystery, intrigue, and even a sword fight or two. Miranda is a great narrator with a humorous and imaginative perspective on the world. There was even a nice set up for the next book in the series which is exciting!
This was such a delight and such a great addition to this truly wonderful unique series! I loved everything about these characters, I mean, who doesn't love a good pirate romance full of mystery, time travel, and intrigue?
I also absolutely love that even though this is a series, you don't necessarily have to read the other two books in order to understand everything that is happening in this one, although I highly recommend you do simply because they are fabulous.
Well written, adventurous, captivating and kept me rapidly turning the pages. Another great one from Armstrong!
This is my second Kelley Armstrong book, and it was quite different from the first I read, even though both dealt with time travel.
Miranda is one kick-ass character, a girl who is from the 18th century, writes novels and has explored sexual relationships while unmarried. She sets out to explore the future but ends up in the past where she meets Nico, a handsome doctor from Martinique and she is determined to save his life. They go on a grand adventure together involving communicating with ghosts and solving a mystery. They are a charming match and I expect to see more of them and their adventures in the future.
I love Kelley Armstrong's world building! This series is so great! I will read anything that she writes.
I really enjoyed this book. I’m not typically one for historical fiction but this book drew me in and I was hooked. I don’t have a whole lot to say without ruining it for people who haven’t read it yet, but it’s worth taking the time to read for sure.
I was so excited when I heard Kelley Armstrong had written a continuation to this series. While we don't get the same characters we did in the first book this one is full of brand new ones with brand new fiesty attitudes. With great character development and a story that will really grab you this is one book will really find yourself lost in. I was very surprised when unlike the first book in this series where our main character is transported to the past this one was a little different. This story put a while new spin on the time jumping aspect of the series and made it feel new and fresh for the reader. This book introduces our main character Miranda. Unlike in Stitch in Time Miranda isn't from the 20th century however she is from the 1800s. She comes across the portal and when she jumps instead of going back in time she is transported further through time to the 20th century where she meets pirate Nicolas. This was a nice spin on time travel books that I didn't see coming. I loved the relationship between Nicolas and Miranda. It was very endearing. This is one couple that will have all audiences rooting for them. This is a must read with a plot and characters that will have your heart for a long time. I'm so glad I got the chance to check this out. I can't wait to see what else this series has in store for us.
Third book of the series, but it works as a standalone too. This story is more adventurous than the others. Miranda is a writer in Victorian England needing to write her stories under a man's name because women don't have the ability for writing books, she writes pirate adventures of a woman pirate, She also has the sight which runs in her family and can see and communicate with ghosts to her advantage in this story. As she walks the moors of her family's friend she sees a ghost on his way to his murder, repeatedly, she does her research about him for her books. When she eavesdrop on her sister and friend she finds out there is a time slip in a room of the house, eager to check out the future she secretly goes to the house and uses the time slip. Things don't work out the way she planned, and ends up in the past with her ghost, only not a ghost, on his way to his murder and she realizes she can save him, thus her adventurns begin. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an exchange for an honest opinion.
Ms Armstrong does time travel right! I've never been a fan of time travel novels til I started this series of page turning adventure with a side or romance. Each novel in the series gets better, making you want the next!
Greatly appreciate the publisher, author and NetGallery for the advance copy in return for an honest review. Honestly, I love it!
This is quite simply pure escapism that entertains without excessive angst. Set in England in a time when taxes were high with piracy for many a necessity we meet Miranda a curious young woman desperate to discover and experience everything that life can offer her. Miranda knows where there is a crossover of time that her family think of as a stitch and sets out to time travel to the future but things go slightly awry when she's transported fifty years into the past and finds herself trying to stop a murder ! Nico is the dashing, forward thinking privateer who through no fault of his own finds himself far from home and suddenly wanted for treason ! He's grateful for the timely intervention but Miranda is a woman full of surprises and their adventures are only just beginning !
I feel this author can turn her imagination to writing anything as she continues to delight and impress with the breadth of her work. This historical, time travel romance has suspense, danger and even a touch of sass as Miranda and Nico become much better acquainted hint hint ! I thoroughly enjoyed this story and whilst it wasn't exactly what I expected it definitely kept me entertained and guessing which is most assuredly a good thing.
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Kelley Armstrong is one of my absolute favourite authors, every since reading 'Bitten' may years ago. I am loving the Stitch in Time Series. Armstrong has such fabulous storytelling and character development abilities it is easy to get swept up and find yourself binging the book in one sitting.
I was a bit hesitant to request this one because of the word pirate. I had visions of the story taking place on the high seas and that didn't really appeal to me...but...because I love all of Kelley Armstrong's work, I hit the button. I am so glad I did. This was an exceptional addition to the series. I adored both Miranda and Nico. I loved their personalities and how well they fit together. I loved the plot and the twists. If you love this series as much as I do, then you will love this installment as well. I am hoping Portia will get a book! Next I will wait for the Christmas story featuring Nico and Miranda called "Ghosts and Garlands".
I loved it! I was surprised where the stitch in time dropped the next lovely lady in this excellent series and who she met! Miranda and Nico's bantering and flirting is fun and funny. The whole story was a thrill to watch both them and the boat scenes. I'm torn because I want more of them in this time plus see the next stitch they momentarily stepped into. This is one of my favorite authors.
It's been a while since I've read a Kelley Armstrong book which I've always adored. This didn't disappoint and despite not reading book 2 of the series it was immersive and easy to read as a standalone. With timeslip, romance, ghosts and strong female characters despite the era they were set what more could you want.
As someone who lives in Yorkshire and a fan of Whitby and its locality this book captured the landcape and atmosphere of the area and enjoyed the link to the legend of the bay
As soon as this book was announced, I was extremely excited to read it and continue with this adventure. Kelley Armstrong did not disappoint with this book. From the first page, I was hooked. I am not one for romancey novels, and this one is the perfect balance between romance and adventure and keeps the reader engaged the entire story. I do not tend to enjoy historical fiction books, but this book is on a whole different level. I did not realize that I was even reading historical fiction since I was so caught up in the story.
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly I get drawn into one of Kelley Armstrong’s stories and her 3rd installment of her time travel series, A Turn of the Tide, was no different. From the very first few pages, I was sucked right into my own time stitch and transported into the word of pirates, ghosts, knaves, intrigue and adventure. I tore through this rhapsodic journey and found that when I had finished, was left much like the main characters, Nico and Miranda, hungry for more escapades. The weaving of Nico and Mirandas story was much like a spiders web, complex and deadly, yet simple and beautiful. The witty banter, and sexual tension, between the two made me laugh out loud and appreciate that Miranda was not a subtle woman of her time. The characters were well written, the plot thick with many twists and turns that Armstrong has done well in pulling you into and gasping out loud at the atrocities. A Turn of the Tide is a perfect mix of sci-fi and historical fiction, with its predecessors leading the march. I yearn to delve deeper into this world of time hopping heroines to find where, or when, they will find themselves and how they handle their surroundings.
Thanks to #NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review before the release of #ATurnoftheTide and get caught up in yet another well written story.
