This book uses the NHL as case studies to educate about themes of decision making, business and leadership. It didn't quite deliver but was interesting none-the-less. I"m not really a hockey fan, but am interested in the impact of large sporting organisations on society and culture.

Unlike most books that use sports to apply to businesses, this book used actual NHL business practices that could translate into the “regular” corporate world quite well. More of a financial book than sports but delivers its message very well.

This is a very interesting book with a lot of interesting comparisons between the NHL and general management. I'm a huge fan of the NHL and hockey in general, though I've never played. I'm also a freelance writer so I'm not presently in a leadership position within an organization in the same way. I did find a lot of the information to be very recent and I remember a lot of the events occurring in real time as a fan (the COVID pause, lockouts, team expansions, etc.).

While I feel like there could have been some stronger correlations and slightly more focus on the business aspects, I did enjoy this book as a hockey fan. I enjoyed the organization of the book. I wouldn't recommend it for every hockey fan, but fans who are in business/leadership/management may find it very intriguing.
