This was my first book by this author but it will definitely not be my last. It was so good! I loved this book! The story was so cute and sweet and intriguing. I loved the narrator as well.
This book was so precious. I loved it. It was hilarious and sweet and steamy all at once.
The insta love thing is kind of hilarious because of how gone Silas is for Maggie right from the start. I like how she was definitely attracted to him but not quite sold on him right away and kind of made him work for it.
I love animals in books so I thought Kevin and the kittens were a hilarious and adorable addition.
The mystery surrounding the house was so intriguing! The small town vibes and his family dynamics were great and the cranky old guy Wallace was hilarious.
Found family is one of my favorite tropes and this book does it so well. I love the relationship that Maggie and Dean form with Cody. I may have shed a few tears at one point because it was all so freaking sweet.
I’m so sad that this is a stand alone because these characters were so good and I want more of them. I’ve never felt a particular urge to go to Idaho but now I want to go, so I can get some finger steaks.
This was my first book by this author but it will definitely not be my last!
Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an eARC as well as this finished copy.
Thanks so much to Netgalley, Hatchette Audio, and Lucy Score for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I went in with high hopes since I’ve been blown away with every other Lucy Score book I’ve read and boy oh boy did she surpass the expectations. Such a great 5 star read.
Maggie is a YouTube famous house flipper who has just bought a house to renovate in Kinship, Idaho. After meeting Silas “love at first sight with Maggie” Wright, she realizes that this new project might be a little more than she bargained for. With a phenomenal cast of side characters, including one of the cutest dogs in the history of books and two mischievous cats (one is named Taco!!) and a side quest (treasure hunt anyone?), Maggie Moves on is filled with nonstop smiles and laughs. The audiobook was phenomenal with the characters being brought to life and I couldn’t stop laughing out loud.
Lucy Score has done it yet again with a strong, independent FMC and a swoony, thoughtful, and respectful MMC but in all honesty, Kevin absolutely stole the show. I would read another book about all of Kevin’s misadventures with Silas and Maggie. The strongest part of this book was the relationships between Silas and his family and town and how these relationships extend to Maggie who has been mostly alone for the majority of her life. I admit to tearing up at the epilogue and can’t wait to read this book again.
Maggie is a YouTube star who flips houses. Her latest project is a Victorian mansion in a small town in Idaho. Maggie is focussed with her lists and her team to restore the crumbling Victorian mansion, what she doesn't have time for is the sexy laid back landscaper Silas! Silas instantly falls for Maggie and his outright flirting and carefree attitude is breaking Maggie's resolve. Will Maggie be able to resist Silas and walk away with her heart intact when her project is over and she has to move on?
This book was enjoyable. I loved the side characters, they were so interesting! Be it Silas's family, his dog, Maggie's ex husband or the grumpy senior and so many others that added color to the book. But it also made the book too long and did not focus too much on Maggie and Silas's relationship. Silas was a refreshing change to read about after all the grumpy main characters in the recent past. In real life he would be super annoying to date!! Overall a nice breezy read.
Thank you @readforeverpub for sending me the free ARC.
Tropes: Small Town Romance, Insta Love, He Falls First, Found Family, Dual POV
Maggie Nichols is a house flipper with her own YouTube channel with almost 1 million followers. Her next flip is this beautiful Victorian mansion that has been neglected for years in Kinship, Idaho. While she is interviewing for trades to work on the home, she runs into the hot landscaper, Silas Wright. Maggie does not have time for a relationship and her life doesn’t have room for one as well because she is constantly on the move working on different projects. Silas doesn’t give up in pursing Maggie. Once again, the banter between the two is fantastic. I think that is what I like about these stories: the banter and the pursuit. Silas’s dog, Kevin, is another character in this story and is so fun and hilarious. There is a mystery that is found with the history of the house in which Maggie and Silas team up with grumpy old Wallace to try to solve. As an interior designer, I loved the renovation descriptions and problems that came up as projects never go as smooth as you hope. A story about self-discovery, love and friendship. This was another adorable small-town romance, and the steamy parts didn’t hurt either. A feel-good story that you should add to your tbr! What a perfect summer read.
I couldn't finish this book.
This book is cute but too anticlimactic for me. Maggie and Silas have a lot of chemistry but 58% into the book I started to get pretty bored. It just doesn't have any sort of action as soon as Maggie starts to like Silas. It falls flat for me. But just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean you won't potentially like it, give it a try and see.
Maggie travels around the country flipping houses for her one million YouTube subscribers, and definitely isn't looking to put down roots. Then she takes on her most ambitious project yet in Kinship, Idaho, and her handsome landscape architect, Silas Wright, is immediately interested in changing her mind.
I loved the romance between Maggie and Silas, as well as the found family aspects of the novel and the mystery behind the Campbell house. I loved that both Silas and Maggie needed to grow as people to be ready for a relationship. It was an entertaining read all the way through.
Ok, how adorable is this cover?!
These summer reads are coming in hot with all the HGTV vibes and I’m totally here for it! 👏
Full of witty banter and endearing and likeable characters, this is an entertaining small town romance and opposites attract plot! It gave me total Hallmark vibes but with some added steam and less cheesiness, lol!
While it was a bit too long and dragged out for me, I still found it enjoyable and I really liked the role reversals of Silas chasing after Maggie! It also had a great side story about new found families and atypical family dynamics which was an added bonus!
P.S - I dare you not to fall in love with Kevin the dog! 🐶😍
3.5 stars rounded to 4
Maggie Moves On is an entertaining and endearing story of a woman trying to find security in her life after losing her mother. While the book is promoted as a romance, I consider this book to also include the elements of a great Women’s Fiction read.
Maggie Nichols is a YouTube sensation with her home restoration business. Now back in her hometown to restore a Victorian home she’s always wanted to work on, she can’t wait to get started. What she doesn’t realize is that her soul is about to get a restoration as well.
A lot is going on in this story with many unique and charming characters. The project’s landscaper Silas falls for Maggie right from the start. He’s charming, good-looking with a strong sense of family. His dog Kevin adds a sweet element to the story. Add in a grumpy town historian, ex-husband and business partner Dean and a homeless teenager and you have a lot of stories being told to keep you entertained.
As the book and the project progresses, a mystery surrounding the house is unlocked. I found it to be an added element to the story which takes it to a different level. There is also a backstory surrounding Maggie’s childhood which plays a significant role in the book and works well in developing this character.
The story is engaging, heartfelt and steamy. The author balances the seriousness of parts of the book with injections of humour. The characters are well-written and likeable. The romance in the book is swoon-worthy. But what makes the book for me is the evolution of Maggie’s character as the book progresses. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
The audiobook is read by Emma Wilder and I enjoyed her performance. Her voice is enthusiastic, expressive and witty in all the right moments. I have no problem in recommending the audiobook to those that enjoy this format.
4.5 stars
I don't know who I fell in love with more. Maggie and Silas or Kevin. My heart tells me it's Kevin and I trust my heart. Kevin was the main character, and you can't convince me otherwise. I've never seen a more quirky and lovable dog. Okay, enough about Kevin. Let's dive into the book.
Maggie Nichols is always moving. As a house-flipper and a Youtube sensation, she's always on the go. She is a hard-working woman who doesn't know the first thing about a break. A house-flipping job brings her to a small community in Idaho. What she didn't realize is that Idaho came with a hot landscaper Silas Wright and a community of loving and accepting people. Silas is smitten right away. So is Maggie but she doesn't have time for a small-town summer fling. (Yeah, right. We know how this goes.)
As Maggie, with the help of Silas and the rest of the community, renovates the old victorian house, she finds herself planting roots in Idaho. She finds love, family, acceptance, and security—everything she never had. But will that be enough to keep her from doing the one thing she knows how to do best—move?
Maggie moves on is a fun rom-com that'll have you grinning like a fool. The banter, the steam, and the in-between were top-notch. The side characters had lives of their own. The story immerses you from the get-go. It's a perfect summer read.
I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook, and the narration was excellent.
A digital copy of this book was given to me in the form of an audiobook from NetGalley in an exchange for an honest review. Thank you, NetGalley and Hachette Audio.

★★★★.5 (4.5/5 stars)
This was an EXCELLENT audiobook. Narrator Emma Wilder has an amazing talent of creating multiple voices for male and female characters. Her voice was very reminiscent of Julia Whelan to me. I loved it! I definitely recommend this book as an audiobook and performances by Emma Wilder.
I really enjoyed this story. This was my first read by Lucy Score and I did not know what to expect, but I was very impressed. The plot of this book includes romance, character growth and self discovery, with a dash of mystery thrown in!
Maggie Moves On tells the story of Youtuber and House-flipper, Maggie Nichols. When her next flip brings her to Kinship, Idaho, Maggie's new landscaper, Silas, relentlessly pursues her from the moment he lays eyes on her. The book paints a picture of the beautiful remodel of an old, well-known property, the patchwork family that this team finds, and the path that Maggie and Silas have to go on in order to realize what they want in life.
This is a contemporary romance story that includes more than your typical surface-level, cute tropes. It features a deeper plot with life lessons that ring true to readers of all ages. It's a small town romance with flirtatious banter, an independent heroine, and a beautiful found family.
I have given this book a rating of 4.5 stars for a story that I loved and would definitely recommend to others. I took off half of a star because the explicit content in the romance scenes were a little more than I am comfortable with. Thank you to NetGalley, Hachette Audio, and Forever publishing for an advanced review copy of this book.
Maggie Moves On is a delightful rom com filled with a swoony hero, strong and determined heroine, wonderful side characters and a whole lot of heart.
Lucy Score does an excellent job of establishing a small town filled with rich characters and locations. It’s easy to picture yourself immersed in this world.
Maggie is a home renovation YouTube star who takes on new renovation and finds herself the object of her new landscapers affection. She is working towards goals and keeping a few secrets so does not need the distraction.
Silas is the landscape Maggie hires for her current renovation and is the cocky local guy who instantly falls for Maggie. I really enjoyed his charming demeanour and how fiercely loyal and protective he is of his people.
I really enjoyed how they challenged each other’s perceptions and expectations for their futures. The way they both have to decide what they are willing to changed was interesting and real.
The theme of found family is always strong in Lucy Scores writing and I believe Maggie Moves On is one of her finest examples of this. The town on Kinship and it’s residents envelope Maggie and her team whist they integrate themselves in the lives of the townspeople.
Each and every side character brings something special to the story. Standout is of course, Kevin the dog! I laughed every time he was mentioned.
The narration by Emma Wilder is excellent. I was completely transported to Kinship Idaho. I would highly recommend this story in audio.
I ADORED MAGGIE, SILAS, DEAN, CODY, AND THE WHOLE SUPPORTING CAST, THE TOWN OF KINSHIP…
This book was everything I love about a Lucy book and still so much more, in part because it takes place in my neck of the woods, and in part because it’s a romance adventure unlike many books out there today. Lucy takes the reader on all kinds of adventures with journeys overlapping and characters growing in all different directions.
The main characters are people you root for from the very beginning. Each character goes through their own growth throughout this book, and even though each character is imperfectly beautiful from the start, I loved watching them go through some growing pains to become even more lovable by the end. There are so many layers to this book – love, romance, romantic love, family, friends, neighbors, communities, pets… it’s multifaceted, and there’s something for everyone between these pages.
One of the biggest themes of this story is family. Maggie doesn’t have a whole lot of family, except for the people she’s chosen as her own, while Silas has an overabundance of family, in a literal sense because he has two families, plus the community he was raised in. It takes Maggie stepping into this community, seeing Silas’s family, and intertwining her self-made family within the folds to see what she’s been missing by being a nomad. Her heart is still broken over the loss of her first true love, her mother, and since then, Maggie has been unwilling to choose people because she’s afraid of that pain. In a nutshell, she doesn’t let people get attached, and she doesn’t get attached, either. Enter Silas, a man who makes his living planting roots. Silas is, in all honesty, an amazing male lead. I love how progressive he is, how in tune with Maggie he is, and how he’s willing to show up and love people on their messiest and hardest days. I mean, LITERALLY THE FIRST TIME THEY MEET, Silas calls Maggie his future wife. He comes on strong, but Maggie NEEDS that kind of love to show her that taking hard steps into relationships CAN be worth the prospect of pain. It also helps that he makes her laugh AND he makes her swoon – the best combination in a man!
Now, let’s talk about the side characters: Dean, Cody, Michael, Dayana/Keaton, Wallace, Mama B and Mom, Nirina, even the Campbell’s of the Old Campbell House…
All of these people played such an important role in this story, and without them, you don’t get the wholesome love from both our main characters. Dean is the glue that’s been holding Maggie together, and Cody is the youth that inspired change in both Maggie and Dean and created a family unit, with Silas of course. Without Silas’ family – Michael, Mama B and Mom, Nirina, the dads, and even the sibling GIF group chat – Silas would be the perfect book boyfriend. Of course, his family humbles him, but it also allows us to see that Silas knows how to do what’s right because he’s stood up for and loved these people through all the things life has thrown their way. Wallace, the grump, was one of my favorite parts of the whole book. He brought in a generational understanding and a passion for how the past shapes the future, whether we are aware of it or not. His perspective was also important to the preservation efforts of restoration, and his character really made me think about how we all can leave a legacy behind – what do I want my legacy to be?
This review wouldn’t be complete without an acknowledgement of all the Lucy Easter eggs (Cat King, @CulpepperVicky, Rock Bottom, Kathryn a.k.a. Mrs. Nolan!, the shoutout to the BRAS, @PurplePeopleAvoider eating 7 tacos and margaritas, By a Thread) plus all of the really fun pop culture references (Taylor Swift, Jimmy Buffet, Christmas Vacation references, etc.).
Maggie Moves On is such a fun read. I also got advanced access to the audiobook for this book, and it was AMAZING. I will be buying it to add to my collection for sure. Hearing the characters come to life, the banter from Silas and Maggie, the fun had on the jobsite, it all equates to a really fun listen! I love when a quality story turns into a quality audiobook, and this one did not disappoint.
This book gets a big fat 5 stars from me. I wish I could give it 6, or 11 stars. It dethroned my previous Lucy favorite (it was only a matter of time), but I never thought I’d see the day. Silas sealed that fate for Maggie Moves On in my heart.
I just need a moment to wipe this smile off my face and try and concentrate on how I’m going to try to give this justice. This was a book that I never wanted to end. **SIGH** Silas………
Ok, here goes!
Smexy and romantic and so delicious. Fun with wonderful characters, all of them. I just couldn’t get enough. And these two had so much chemistry you could feel it from across a room. Beautiful and smoldering the novel teleported me into happiness. I. Loved. Everything. About. This. Book.
Just some things I loved:
Cupcake metaphor
Charm, angst and the banter
Fairytale houses and Naps
And I just want to say Silas will forever be one of my most favorite book boyfriends. He was EVERYTHING I want when it comes to romance. If you haven’t picked your beach read yet this is it! I highly recommend reading and or listening to it. I did both. It was narrated by Emma Wilder and she was great. Perfect for the story.
Dear Lucy,
Thanks for adding Kevin, Dolly Parton and Taco to an already wonderful story. They were the cherry on top.
And I loved this❣️ “To Binge Readers Anonymous, my found family, this one’s for you.” ~Lucy Score
Thanks Hachette Audio, Grand Central Publishing and Forever via NetGalley.
I was ready for a delicious home remodeling romcom but I didn't expect it to be so much more
.
'Maggie moves on', takes place in one of those literary small towns with characters that one wants to continue reading about with descriptions of the landscape that put the dream atmosphere of familiarity and to all this she adds the youtube show, the attraction between both characters, meddling siblings, a cute pitbull and a house with many secrets to discover
.
Maggie remodels houses all over the country with her partner Dean and they show it on YouTube, after several years of following this routine Maggie buys an eighteen bedroom hilltop house in a small town in Idaho. The biggest job they are both about to face comes with a mystery in its walls, a town excited to be part of the show, and a sexy landscaper who from the first moment he sees her is convinced that he is going to be her husband
.
I liked how all the elements were so well included, the number of characters and how the plot unfolds without falling into a typical rhythm that made that each plot twist hook me more into the story
.
This beautifully narrated by Emma Wilder and it was a delight to listen to the story of Silas and Maggie with such emotion
.
.
Thanks to Lucy Score and Hachette Audio for give me this beautiful book to listen in exchange for my honest opinion
The perfect book if you're in a slump! I honestly can't get enough of this story. I finished listening to the audiobook this morning and haven't been able to stop talking about it since. (Sorry to Addie and my mom, lol.)
I'm not sure if I just went in with burnout from a previous book, but my heart is so happy after reading Maggie Moves On, and I wish I could read it again for the first time.
The characters are all so personable, especially Silas, who falls in insta-lust with Maggie from the moment he meets her. His dog is always getting into trouble and finds a ragtag kitten duo that joins him on his crazy adventures.
The side characters are just as great. Dean is Maggie's business partner, not to mention her ex-husband, and I adore their special relationship, particularly when they're swooning over the same guys.
From start to finish, this is a romantic comedy guaranteed to get you out of whatever reading slump you're in, or if you've just had a rough day, curl up with this book and I guarantee it'll leave you smiling and in a better emotional state of being.
Perfect for any lover of animals, romance, stubborn but strong female leads, and hilarious unfiltered men. I loved all of the home reno references, and could totally see the story playing out in my mind. I will definitely be coming back to this one again in the near future!
The house-flipping youtuber plot got me. If you know me, I love watching house flips on youtube and I thought this would be a perfect book for me, The story follows Maggie, a youtube sensation and Silas the landscaper. This small town romance is what you're looking for, for a steamy summer read.
This is my first Lucy Score novel and I absolutely loved it!! I've heard such great things about her and her books and this one did not disappoint. It was beautifully written, medium paced, and the story keeps you going. Every chapter leaves you wanting more. 'What's Maggie is gonna do next', 'What Silas is gonna do/say next', 'What her youtube fanbase is gonna comment next'. The romance, the comedy and the family issues all tie in in the next as a heart-warming rom-com. Also LOVED how she included what people would comment on her youtube videos.
Can't wait to read more from this author because this one is on the top of my list! PS, also loved how the dog was named Kevin lol .
Highly recommend !!
Thank you netgalley, Hachette Audio and Lucy Score for the audiobook ARC!
4.5 ⭐️
Maggie and her ex-husband Dean are renovation YouTube sensations, and are on the move for their next project in Kinship, Idaho, where Maggie meets her hot landscaper contractor Silas. Unfazed by his shameless flirting, Maggie makes every effort to ignore his presumptuous and protective personality because she has no time for love or funny business. The forced proximity creates some undeniable sexual tension though, and while so much is happening simultaneously with the project, the gravitational pull to Silas remains strong. What does this all mean for Maggie?
This was my first Lucy Score book ever, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the moving parts—from the premise, the characters, subplots, and the banter between Silas and Maggie. The found family and small towns carved out a good amount of tenderness, and the open door steam (holy moly) was the right balance to everything else. And of course, I can’t forget about Kevin, Silas’s dog who added extra live and spunk, too.
We may only be halfway through 2022 but it is safe to say this may be my favorite romance of the year! Giving off ALL the HGTV vibes, Maggie is our travelling renovator, taking houses and making them someone's dream home, but never here home. Enter Silas, a hot local landscaper that shows up to bid on her most recent acquisition. From the moment he lays eyes on her Silas is determined he will marry Maggie, now if only he could convince her to settle down.
All this, capped off with a silly and adorably clumsy dog, Kevin, and you've got yourself the perfect romance. "Maggie Moves On" hit all the right notes with me, from my love of HGTV, to forced om you family, and even a perfect cast of pets, this book played like a dreamy rom-com as I read along.
This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be my last. I adored everything shit this one. Highly recommend it
This was my first ever Lucy Score book, and I was so surprised at how much I loved it! It was a cute and sweet romance, but I also loved their banter. I’ll definitely be reading more!
