This reads very much like an encyclopedia which is still a fascinating look at the topic though the title does imply that it will be more a non-fiction history text. I think this will appeal to people that want just a quick snippet at many of the phobias that exist. There's not much depth to the book, it's a quick surface level look at many phobias and then moves on. There is repetition, but that's to be expected in a book that is formatted like an encyclopedia. Overall, will satisfy those curious to learn about the topic.

An entertaining chronicle of different phobias and manias, some you've never heard of, and some you'd rather forget! Ergophobia (fear of work), haphephobia (fear of being touched), and more will fascinate you with historical details and anecdotes. This is a thoroughly researched and accessible to anyone, and readers can pick and choose the chapters they're interested in or plow straight through. I confess to skipping any chapters involving insects, and wish I had skipped the one on fear of heights. You may even discover a long buried phobia while you read. Recommended for anyone with a curious mind.

The topic is definitely interesting and the title/ cover will pull in readers. The encyclopedia style was a bit hard for me to really get into it, but could be useful as a resource of for a reader just interested in snippets.
