Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic is a fun, fast-paced mystery with a charming, quick-witted main character named Peregrine Fisher. She is inducted into the Adventuresses' Club of the Antipodes, and she immediately impresses the other members with her detective skills. This was a charming read, and it is the first in a new series called Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

I had mixed feelings when I started this, you know how reboots can be. I had not watched this tele series either.
I was still hesitant in the first few chapters but oh boy did I enjoy this!! There will never be another Phryne Fisher, but Peregrine is a chip off the old block for sure. She is very much like Phryne but still her own person. I love the Adventuresses' Club, like a league of extraordinary women.

Peregrine must prove herself, not just to the women but to herself and the memory of her aunt. She definitely got the sleuthing gene and also has the help of a handsome detective.

If you are a fan of the Miss Fisher series, I recommend giving this a try.

This was such a great little cozy mystery!

Our main character, Peregrine Fisher, recently fired from her latest job at a hair salon, is a drift. But, Peregrine has received a letter that, while she doesn't know it yet, will change her life. Peregrine packs it all in and heads to Melbourne, to Greenwood Mansion, and the home of the Adventuresses' Club. Peregrine learns that she has an aunt who has gone missing and instructed that her possessions, including her convertible and house, be left to her only living heir. Peregrine's aunt Phyrne was an investigator with the Adventuresses, and Peregrine decides to fill her shoes. This means trying to solve not just one but two murders.

I loved that this book was set in the 60's, it added these interesting and challenging elements to Peregrine's investigating.

I also loved the setting. I haven't read many books set in Australia, so this was a welcome change for me.

The mystery was very interesting, I wasn't able to solve this one. Although right at the end I had an idea.

I liked the relationship between Peregrine and the lead detective. Perhaps, maybe some romance there? But, there was another interesting element to the story, a crooked cop that had locked horns with the Adventuresses before and now had Peregrine in his sights.

And Peregrine herself was just a great character. She had picked up so many life skills that she was very talented at investigating. But also, she was a character that had kindness and lots of pizzazz!

This book was such an interesting, fun and cozy mystery read. The plot kept me reading and I loved the female protagonist. I believe this is the first book of a series so I am excited to see what happens next. This was probably one of my favorite arc reads so far and was highly anticipated on my list. This is the perfect book when you need a good binge read!

Aaaah. Katherine Kovacic must be praised for her attempt at fictionalising TV series Miss Fisher Morden Murder Mysteries.
Just Murdered is the story of Miss Phryne Fisher's long-lost niece Penelope. Penelope gets inheritance, a whole club of talented and feisty women and a murder to solve. She must, absolutely, to prove her bloodline. And she does. She does it brilliantly.
I absolutely loved this book. I ended up getting it and putting it on the shelf next to Penelope's aunt adventures.

This was a great cozy mystery setting up the beginning of a new series. Set in the 1960's, this was a fun mystery that kept me guessing until the end.

This was a quick, fun read! I loved Peregrine and really enjoyed following her as she tried to solve the mystery. I actually have not seen the show this novel is based on and now I would really like to!

Just Murdered is a wonderfully humorous and engagingly cozy series starter by Katherine Kovacic. Released 31st Jan 2023 by Sourcebooks on their Poisoned Pen Press imprint, it's 288 pages and is available in paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

Whenever a media franchise/series does well, spinoffs are inevitable. Booksellers and publishers survive by selling "units" and so most times, the faceless folks making the marketing decisions aren't always equally engaged in the artistry or storytelling. Certainly true of Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Star Trek, even Pokemon. Happily, in this case, spinoff doesn't mean lesser. This is a genuinely well written, warmly funny book featuring everyone's favorite flapper's niece in the title role.

Young Ms. Peregrine Fisher (niece of the inimitable Phryne) is summoned to the Antipodes in connection with an inheritance. She's inherited her aunt's house, money, and apparently her penchant for solving mysteries.

This novelization set in the 60s and based on the characters of the spin-off TV series.

Four and half stars. I adore the original series by Kerry Greenwood, but this one holds its own quite well and is cheeky and humorous in the same general vein.

This story was based off an old screenplay. However the time line and plot were hard to follow in spots. The characters lacked energy . At time it got boring and I eventually ended up not finishing the book.

Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic is a stand alone novel that is set in the 1960s in Australia. This book is based on the Australian Television Mystery series, Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries which in turn is a spin-off of the Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries series that was based on the Phyrne Fisher books by Kerry Greenwood. In this book, Adventuress Phryne Fisher is missing and presumed dead by the other members of the adventuresses club. A letter was then sent to the last known address of Phryne's sister which ultimately reaches her daughter Peregrine. Peregrine then goes to claim her aunt's estate and upon arrival gets drawn into a murder investigation in order to prove her ability to take her aunt's place in the Adventuress club.

I found this book to be interesting due to its setting and the author's ability to draw the reader in with complete descriptions of the area and characters involved. By having the protagonist required to prove herself before acceptance, the reader is given an insight into the core of the character as she pursues the obstacles that she encounters along the way. With the additional twists and subplots, the author also creates intrigue and misdirection that engages the reader through the final reveal. It will be interesting to see if the author continues this as a series.

A fun filled murder mystery that had me rolling on the floor laughing. I think I would love to see this book on the big screen.

Just Murdered by Katherine Kovacic was a fun read. I didn't know it was a Netflix show but I am definitely going to check it out! I heard it is quite good!

In 1960, Phryne Fisher went missing in the jungles of Papua New Guinea. Only her distinctive gun was found. Now her niece, Peregrine, who never met Phryne, has “inherited” her chair at the Adventuress’ Club. Of course, one cannot just inherit a place at the table, one must earn it.

Peregrine sets out to do just that when a model is found dead during a fashion show—on top of the giant prop wedding cake. She’d just changed employers, was rumored to be having an affair with the store’s owner, and was a prima donna besides. One of the Adventuress members is implicated by the top cop in charge. He’d often butted heads with Phryne and expects to get his way with her out of the way, so to speak.

The detective assigned to the case is a dish, but his boss has rules and can make life miserable for everyone if they’re not followed. Peregrine sees no need for rules. Who will solve the case of the murdered faux bride? It’s a race to the finish with the action moving at the speed of Peregrine’s inherited convertible—with her behind the wheel, of course.

For fans of Miss Fisher, this is an updated version, switching the fashions from the flapper style ‘20s to the mod style of the ‘60s. If you’ve watched Miss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries, the book follows the story (rather than the other way around) to a T.

I really loved this book in a new to my series and author. I can't wait to read the next one. The characters and location really add to the plot. This book keeps you guessing until the end

A cozy mystery with out the cheesiness like other cozy mysteries. This one is based in the 60's where the MC discovers she's receiving an inheritance and uncovers a murder. Just Murdered is a fun and quick read, especially for all of you mystery fans!

Just Murdered is a cozy mystery that takes place in 1960s. The story starts with Peregrine Fisher looking for the Adventuress Club to claim her inheritance that is left to her from her missing aunt Phryne Fisher. Soon after, one of the members of the club is becoming a suspect in a murder case. Peregrine decides to help her new friend and solve the mystery. After all, it would be just what her aunt would do.

The book is easy to read, with a tactful mix of humor, fashion and adventures.

Princess Fuzzypants here: When we first meet Peregrine, she is a bit of a mess. She has bopped from job to job and her life is in disarray. Then a letter arrives addressed to her late mother. It says she needs to contact the writer as it is urgent. She arrives in Melbourne and after an exciting entrance, she learns about an aunt whom she never knew existed and who never knew she exists. She is her heir but the thing she wants most is to be accepted into the Adventuress club but she must first prove her mettle by investigating the murder of a model.

The CSI decides another member of the club, Florence, is guilty in spite of having no evidence. Like her aunt, Peregrine crosses swords with the CSI but another detective, Steed, does not have a closed mind. Steed and Peregrine work together and she figures out the identity of the killer. But she is going to require all the tools that she has acquired through life to avoid being the next victim.

I am a newbie to Miss Fisher but I enjoyed the book thoroughly. Since this is a spin off, you do not have to be a fan although I doubt it would detract at all. Over the top and fun. Five purrs and two paws up.

I am always on the hunt for another good cozy series and I just found one in this series! Book 1 (Just Murdered) takes place in the 60s and follows Peregrine Fisher who is down on her luck. She finds out that her aunt has gone missing in the jungle and heads to Melbourne to inherit her wealth. While in Melbourne, she becomes entangled in a fun case and realizes she has a knack for being a detective of sorts. It was so fun to watch her outsmart some of the police force. Im looking forward to the next installation in this series and you can pick this one up NOW!

Peregrine Fisher, the young and spunky niece of missing adventuress Phryne Fisher, quickly finds herself caught up in a double murder mystery, as well as inheriting a house and a gorgeous new car. While apprehensive at first, the members of the Adventuress Club come to welcome her as one of their own. This was a quick and fuN read and i know there will be more from this author!
