Seven Days in June wasn't what I was expecting at all. I was expecting a light-hearted frothy romance but instead was taken on an emotional rollercoaster. This is a love story with substance and depth.
The story had a blend of grit and realism woven within the romance. It felt refreshingly raw and authentic and steered clear of the usual cliches than can often be found in this genre.
Tia Williams fearlessly tackles heavy, real-world issues like addiction, self-harm, chronic pain, childhood trauma, and societal challenges such as race and gender. I really appreciated the author's sensitive and thoughtful handling of these themes. It made the novel not only a love story but also a poignant exploration of the struggles many people face.
The story feels undeniably modern and was littered with pop culture references that gave the story a real contemporary feel. The exploration of love, race, and second chances is not only relevant but also adds depth to the storytelling.
Eva and Shane are complex and flawed three-dimensional characters whose relationship felt really believable. The depth of their connection felt so authentic and I found myself emotionally invested in their story.
While the pacing is generally well-executed, I couldn't help but feel that the ending was a bit rushed. However, this minor criticism didn't overshadow the overall impact of the novel.
This is an intense love story. The characters are well developed and flawed. The storyline flowed very well between past and present. I liked the writing style
An enchanting second-chance romance that delves into overcoming one's past. Seven Days in June is a good read and I thoroughly enjoyed Eva's character and thought it was refreshing to see a character such as her written. I wasn't expecting some of the themes of the book but this added to the complexity of their characters but would have liked to have been prewarned. I did wish that the ending was a little more in-depth because I felt like something was missing and I'm not sure the epilogue made up for that.
I really enjoyed this love story between writers and the relatable depiction on disability and how it affects every day life to such a great extent. It is a really well written novel that I couldn't help but finish in one sitting
Wow this is fantastic. It might be called the seven days but it took me less than 2 to finish. I looove romance that is relatable and this story really hit the spot for me. Everyone must read it
this was such a great second chance romance story!
I honestly have no words.
Such a heartfelt and relatable novel
Seven Days In June
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eva is a single mum living in New York, who also happens to be a well loved erotica author suffering from writer’s block. Award winning novelist Shane is having a similar issue due to the fact that he’s never written sober.
When their paths cross at a literary event there’s an instant chemistry between them, but what no one else knows is that this isn’t the first time they’ve met ….
I went in blind to this one so wasn’t sure what to expect but quickly became invested in the lives of Eva and Shane, helped by a healthy dose of steam!
I thought the inclusion of one main character suffering from a chronic illness and the other from addiction was really well handled and gave the book some extra depth. Think this would be a great read for fans of CoHo and looking forward to reading more by her soon.
We found a romance for me!!
I really enjoyed Seven Days in June. I've lived with chronic pain since I was 18 so it was so lovely to see it represented in such a realistic and well-written way. It's by no means a fluffy romance which is probably why I enjoyed it so much. Instead, it felt raw and real as the romance had to fit around normal everyday things just as it has to in real life. It was a perfect balance. I would've rated it 5 stars but I wasn't 100% content with how everything ended.
Highly recommend this book and it has opened my eyes to how well romance can be written.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
This book gave me every emotion
I loved all the pop culture references.
I didn’t know what to expect going into this book but I loved it and can’t wait to read more work by this author.
Shane cupped her face in his hands. "It never ends. does it? Loving you never ends. Whether you're Genevieve or Eva. Whether I lose you for years or wake up to your face every morning. I love you. You're my home. And I want you forever."
Damn, this book was an emotional rollercoaster.
When I first started reading this book, I honestly didn't expect it to have the romcom element of the romance genre, but it did.
I just expected an angsty, depressing, traumatizing book and honestly it was but I simply didn't bother checking out the synopsis beforehand, after being approved for it on Netgalley.
It just felt so real, so raw and so deep.
Eva and Shane are perfectly written characters and so perfect for each other but I what I also loved is how this story wasn't just about the romance but also about the healing of two very flawed characters, making them so realistic and relatable.
I was so wrong for underestimating this book and thinking it was a romcom when it was so much more than that.
“Then he met Eva, and she breathed the same air. She stuck to his bones, imprinted herself on his brain—and thoroughly rearranged his world, in the best way.”
When I tell you the opening page gave me whiplash.. what a way to catch someone’s attention and it worked with me. This book was beautiful written
4.5 / 5
Thanks for the ARC
I'd heard a lot of great things when it came to this book and was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
It's an engaging romance that had me eager to read more.
The characters had real depth and felt relatable and realistic, which can't always be said, particularly when it comes to romances.
I really enjoyed Eva and Shane's chemistry too and being able to follow along as their lives progressed.
There were some things left unanswered in the end, which is why it wasn't quite a five star read for me.
But I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for what Tia Williams does next.
Let's just say, if you're looking for a romance that really elevates the genre and draws you in, definitely give this book a try.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
OMG! This book broke me and put me back to pieces multiple times. What a read! A book that has been in my thoughts for weeks since reading it! I’ve already ordered more books by Tia Williams. Her style of writing is something to behold, Everyone needs to read this book for their own sake! Brilliant!
It’s 8pm and I’m having a crisis. This book is incredible and I don’t know if I will be able to just move on after finishing it. With perfect pace and gripping storyline, ‘Seven days in June’ is a book that could only be described as an emotional rollercoaster.
When I started this book, I had no idea what was waiting for me as I went deeper and deeper into this beautiful, heartbreaking story. I was pleasantly surprised, of course, but I didn’t expect it to be such a heavy read. As we learn more about the characters, their first meeting in June all these years ago and how impactful these few days together were on both of their lives, we start to feel connected with them and their struggles as young people who try to heal their pain with addictions and self harm, and as broken adults who no matter how successful, are still haunted by the past.
Not only ‘Seven days in June’ has a brilliant storyline, but it’s also very well written! The author’s writing just flows, it’s poetic and magical! Tia Williams dialogues convey all the emotions and feelings between characters, within few sentences she’s able to show the relationship, how much the characters mean to each other. Reading any exchange, both verbal or in text, between Shane and Eva, was like drinking the most delicious and creamy hot chocolate on Earth, which occasionally stabs you in the back, but you’re just unable to stop drinking.
Big thanks to NetGalley for giving me this arc (yes I know I’m late with the review, I’m sorry). This book was amazing and I definitely recommend it to everyone ❤️
I enjoyed the story, felt invested in the characters, and liked the breazy romance of the novel. That said, there were times when the writing bordered on the simplistic, which pushed me out of the story. Good for the pool side.
A beautiful, heartbreaking love story - as steamy as the NY summer during which the story is set. The chemistry in this book was unreal!
This is not usually my genre, but I really loved this book. I felt it was realistic and a great storyline.
💊 BOOK REVIEW 💊
Synopsis: Eva Mercy is a single mother and bestselling erotica writer who is feeling pressed from all sides. Shane Hall is a reclusive, enigmatic, award-winning novelist, who, to everyone's surprise, shows up unexpectedly in New York.
When Shane and Eva meet at a literary event, sparks fly, raising not only their buried traumas, but also the eyebrows of the Black literati. What no one knows is that fifteen years earlier, teenage Eva and Shane spent one crazy, torrid week madly in love. While they may be pretending not to know each other, they can't deny their chemistry - or the fact that they've been secretly writing to each other in their books through the years.
Over the next seven days, amidst a steamy Brooklyn summer, Eva and Shane reconnect - but Eva's wary of the man who broke her heart, and wants him out of the city so her life can return to normal. Before Shane disappears though, she needs a few questions answered . . .
Review: WOW! WOW WOW WOW! The hype for this book is so utterly valid, I can barely calm myself down and put some thoughts together. Truly remarkable in every sense of the word. Powerful, informative, addictive. I loved every character, and the writing made me care about every single POV that was shared. Highly recommend.
5/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My sincerest thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my review
LOVE LOVE LOVE. A beautiful, messy, heart-breaking love story with two beautiful main characters. This story explored masculinity, race, addiction, chronic illness and motherhood. Highly recommend.
I had no idea what to expect from this one but I really enjoyed it! The pacing was good and the writing was really great. I’d heard very mixed things about this one but it’s only short so definitely recommend giving it a try as it could be to your taste!
