This story easily pulls you in from start to finish. I didn't realize when I started it that it was book 3 in a series. Perhaps I would have loved it more if I had read the first 2 before this one, but I feel that it stook well on its own to read as a standalone - not sure what I would have missed. Love a great romance and setting it in the Highlands of Scotland, and I was hooked. Drummond is heir to a lairdship, a skilled warrior, and son of a mother with special healing abilities. Morven is left alone and pregnant following her husband's refusal after a period of handfasting. I love the mother-son relationship, and loved that Drummond felt so connected to both so quickly. Not just a romance, the story has lots of adventure (Morven's son is taken), and twists (Morven's son's father returns), and holds your attention well. Would definitely recommend for lovers of the genre, and at times this totally gave me some Outlander vibes. Thanks so much to Willa Blair, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this e-arc.
a man in a kilt was there for it. I liked this story and glad i was able to read this one. I will read the rest of these series and books. She had me.
She was a single mother with only 2 friend and everyone was against her and one was the one that helped with the trouble her town was having he was a lords heir trying to help with the trouble and then finds he wants to stick around her until her son was stolen by her own father that left her before he knew she was pregnant
I really enjoyed this story and how it unfolds. It's filled with danger, twists, suspense, violence, love and an added bonus - great main and secondary characters.
The h's child also adds to the story and pulls you in with the beautiful relationship between mother and son. When something happens to the son you felt her anguish.
The H is heir to a lairdship. His mother and his siblings all have a special gift. The H feels he is lucky because he is only able to find objects. But, this changes and he is unsure if it's his gift changing or luck has changed.
We have many villains, physical and verbal abuse (by a villain), but also romance that blossoms between the H/h. One thing I needed clarification on, the h learns the H is to be betrothed when the lairds meet. This wasn't mentioned again, when he returns home.
There is lovemaking, within marriage, heat level 1.5 out of 5 if that and only described once.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA, romance and bedroom door opened only a crack.
Even though book 3 of the series, it is a stand alone. But, you would enjoy it more if you read the series in order because it is amazing. I can't improve on the blurb, just giving you some tidbits to help you decide to read this story.
I received an ARC and all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)
This was a complex storyline and the third in a series. It is best to be read with the others in the series, which I did not, so perhaps my thoughts of the book can't really give it justice. There was also some paranormal, "gift" themes which are not usually my style. I liked the strong, independent heroine and the sensitive, caring hero. All in all, this book was not personally something that I seek out (I also don't always care for the brogue interwoven in the text), but it there is good dialogue and a great heroine.
Drummond Lathan never wanted one of the strange talents that curse his mother’s bloodline. He serves as his father’s second in command and he is the heir. Morven MacComas has been denied by her husband, leaving her broken-hearted and pregnant. She has sworn off love, except for the love she has for her child. Years later, Drummond has visited her village, and Morven can’t deny her attraction to him. Raiders have taken cattle along with her son. Drummond believes he can find them, since he’s always been so good at finding things. Drummond and Morven begin to grow closer in the search for her son. Drummond must accept that this bond between him and Morven is elevating his ability to find her son, which means he has inherited one of his mother’s bloodline’s special powers.
I enjoyed the touch of paranormal in this tale. I liked how Drummond and Morven were stronger together. It was a unique highland read.
Willa Blair’s “Highland Reckoning” is Book 3 in the wonderful Highland Talents Heritage Series.
Willa Blair brings well written stories with well thought out plots. The touch of magic was an added enhancement to this fast paced story. I enjoyed Drummond and Morven’s journey. She was a good and protective mother and Drummond is a strong, yet gentle warrior, at least where Morvin’s concerned.
There are so many great things about the story, the characters main and secondary, Rory was a smart little boy. Drummond, Morven, and young Rory had so much to contend with and amidst all the twists and turns, drama and danger these two manage to fall for one another. I definitely recommend this book, though easily read as a standalone I recommend you read the entire series in order. It is well worth it!
Thank you Ms. Blair for this beautifully written story.
This book was what you'd expect of a traditional Highland romance novel from the speech to the plot. The writing style was excellent and definitely moved the story along. Loved the relationship between Morven and Drummond. This book is apart of a series, and while I didn't read the first two books, I would recommend reading the other two books before reading this book. You may be a little lost, as there are a lot of characters and relationships to remember. Overall a decent highlander book.
A story with a little of everything needed to keep you spellbound from start to finish!
Danger, intrigue, secrets, special powers and great characters that will pull you in!
He was the heir and part of a family with special powers he resisted. But when he meets her, he knows he will do what he can to find her son.
She had not had an easy time since her hand faster husband had left her years ago, but she loved her child. Now he had been taken and she had to get him back!
An emotional rollercoaster that is a great addition to this series!

Drummond Lathan felt he was a little less then some of his siblings, as he never inherited any of the gifted talents some of his siblings had. The got it from his mothers bloodline. Except he was the eldest son and his father’s heir he did have a talent for finding lost items but it had nothing to do with his mother’s bloodline.
Now another clan Laird from Clan MacComas has asked for help as raiders are stealing livestock from them. So Drummond’s Dad the Laird, felt he was the perfect person for this assignment since he is so good at find things. This is where Drummond meets the their clan’s beautiful weaver Morven MacComas. Drummond is both attracted and fascinated by Morten and her six year old son Rory. He also has a deep respect for weavers.
Morven has not had an easy time of this it. As her handfasted husband abandoned her at the end of their year ans a day marriage. He did not she was pregnant and a man she had not heard of in seven years. He was a cruel brutal ma but soon he discovers he has a son and Rory is soon missing. It is obvious that these raiders took her son. Now Morven had said the only male she’ll ever love is her son, although she is very attracted to Drummond Lathan. Now she is so worried about her son, will Drummond be able to find him. Read and find out.
This is the third book in the Hidden Talents Heritage series which is absolutely brilliant! It is filled with murder, kidnap, treachery and stealing, plus a love that will touch any readers heart. Willa Blair is a phenomenal storyteller that kept me turning each page that is filled with so many twists and turns. You can read this in series order or as a stand alone book. A book I absolutely recommend.

I don't know how I feel about this book.
Spoiler alerts.
This was a story about a single mother in the Scottish Highlands who ends up getting pregnant during a handfasting, but she finds out after the man has already divorced her and left. She is our heroine. She attempts to send letters to advise the man, but he doesn't return to the village. And she can't leave to go look for him because her family are weavers and her loom takes up al most all of her cottage. She dyes, spins and makes her own wool thread for her cloth and she sells it in her village. For that reason, her neighbors have not kicked her out of the village, but they are not very welcoming either. She has been raising her son on her own and he is a handful. The local preacher told her that he is smart and needs to be taught to read and write. While she is thinking of how to make this happen, her village has been the victim of a band of robbers. Over the past couple of years, they have severely depleted the reserved food, seeds, animals and hay that is needed to live through the winter. The village chief goes to his laird, where he pays taxes for being under his leadership. The laird sends his heir to the village along with a dozen soldiers to stop the band of robbers. The hero and heroine meet by walking into each other, then seeing each other at a distance. The hero thinks that the heroine is about his age and must be married. But when he finds out she is single, he begins to court her.
I feel that this is a nice book, but it doesn't grab me. The style is appropriate to the time period and the Scottish accent is used in the speech, but I just feel it is a little contrived. The heroine is a fallen woman. The hero is the laird's heir. He is supposed to have a contracted marriage, but his parents are allowing their children to marry for love. There was a little danger, but the hero fell from a cliff while on horseback and the bandits didnt see him when they looked over the edge. The hero even describes how he had fallen/slid down the slope and hit his head hard enough to cause him to vomit when he moved. Then he was able to climb up the cliff and walk the miles to and around the bandits lair. Okay, my son fell 20 feet off of a ladder, ended up in trauma unit, destroyed his left ankle, dislocated his elbow and took 3 operations, a rod in one bone and an 11 inch chain with 14 screws to fix the other bone, and takes 9 months to be able to walk again. And our hero climbs out after being so far down the bandits could not see him? I still expect believable when I read a romance novel. I did not feel immersed in the story. I really did not like the lead characters. I never felt their connection. I give it 2 stars and suggest dodging this one.
Exceptional story. Reckoning is one of the best I've read in this highland series. Action-packed and heartwarming. Morven and Drummond are perfect for one another and I enjoyed reading how they figure that out. Both strong, independent characters with huge hearts. Testing their wills and tempting their attractions on a bold adventure risking the dangers of the land and challenging them was nail-biting experience with the sweet, patient build-up to true love.
⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
I enjoyed Drummond and Morven’s journey; it was full of action and moved swiftly. I loved Morven’s connection with her son; she placed his well-being above everything. Drummond's loyalty and strength were impresive. The secondary characters were well thought out. I missed the spark between Drummond and Morven. I can’t pinpoint it exactly, but I could not invest in their connection. I wanted to feel the passion more. That said, I felt this didn’t hinder me from liking the book. I wanted just a little more. I liked the magic element of the story; it added to the plot without being the focal point.
Highland Reckoning is the third book in the Highland Talents Heritage series. I read this book as a stand-alone, and it was fine. I loved the journey and the romance; I would read the previous books and will read the next book in the series; the book was well written. I felt this was an entertaining installment in the series, and I recommend these books. Drummond and Morven’s romance kept me turning the page and anticipating their happily ever after.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book through Netgalley and the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An enjoyable read with a fast paced plot with lots of action and mystery. Despite the hero being a warrior he has a heart of gold is smart and of course good looking which tempts the heroine despite her trust issue's and being a single mother and his family having unusual gifts it was an entertaining read. This can be read as a stand alone as I haven't read the other's but will now endeavour to do so. I did receive an advanced copy for my honest opinion hereby given.
Morven has been ignored most of her adult life by her clan except for the lady of the keep who loves the cloth she makes. She was hand fasted but Rodrick left her and she ended up pregnant and having a baby boy Rory. Lately he clan has been loosing some of their animals due to people stealing and they are determined to stop it from happening. Angus decides to get her from Drummond. When Drummond arrives to the clan with some of his men Drummond immediately bumps into Morven and has an instant connection. Drummond wants to spend more time with her and Rory to see where his feelings might lead him. When Rory is taken by his father, Rodrick, Morven is determined she is going to find her son. She ends up needing help by Drummond. Will them spending time together looking for her son push them closer together or will it destroy their developing feelings for each other? I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Highland Reckoning is third in the Highland Talents Heritage series. Having not read the first two books in the series, I can say it is definitely a stand-alone book but would most likely read just as well if read in succession. I loved the idea of the ‘talents’ to be able to heal or help others being genetic in the Lathan family. In HR, Drummond believes the family ‘talent’ has skipped him for the most part. He finds out that is not the case once he makes a connection to Morven of the MacComas clan. Drummond has been sent there to assist them with raiders who continually take their animals and property. Morven and Drummond, and even Morven’s son Rory, develop a deep and strong relationship quickly. I loved how gentle Drummond is with Morven and Rory, loved her deep love for her son and commitment to him, and how they eventually formed a family.
This is a fantastic romance with intrigue, danger, kidnapping, a former relationship (kind of like the ‘Energizer Bunny’ who just keeps coming back) that just keeps you enthralled throughout this romantic tale. I am planning to go back and read the prior books in the series having now had a peak of them through HR.
Drummond Lathan always thought that unlike his siblings he had no talent except to be the heir to their clan. While on a journey to help a neighboring clan with some raiders he discovers he might have a talent to help after all. After much frustration in trying to catch these raiders, he falls into a life or death situation to save not only himself but the woman and child he knows he wants in his life.
Highland Reckoning is Book 3 in the Highland Talents Heritage Series and as with book 1 and 2, it doesn’t disappoint. The story is pure romance with a bit of magic in the setting of the beautiful Scottish highlands. I loved Drummond and Morven characters as they balanced each other out quite nicely. Drummond found what he didn’t know he was looking for when he met Morven and her son, Rory. The plot is very easy to follow, with a bit of nail-biting at times because the bad guys causing trouble were very evil so this makes for a bit of fast page turning at times. There are many secondary characters that add so much fun to the story and I’m absolutely in love with Drummond’s family. They seem to be a fun bunch to be around. I totally recommend this book as well as the first two in this series for an adventurous trip to the Highlands with a bit of romance and mystery thrown in!
Historical fiction set any time before the 19th century usually isn’t my thing. The language and attitudes toward women become a bit too antiquated for me. Something set in the Scottish Highlands, though, is often my exception. I love so much about this time period – the history, the clan dynamics, the tartan. And Highland Reckoning delivered on all of it.
Part of a series, this book reads well as a standalone. When a nearby clan is having issues protecting their people and belongings against raiders, Drummond, who will one day be chief of his own clan, travels to help them. He meets and is drawn to a weaver, Morven, becoming close with her and her son Rory. When the raiders kidnap Rory, Drummond and Morven must work together to bring him home and finally stop the attacks on her clan.
Drummond and Morven have a very sweet chemistry, and his friendship with Rory is even sweeter. The contrast between him as a fierce warrior and a caring father figure is probably my favorite part of the book. Definition of “get you a man who can do both.” The action and pacing of the plot work really well. There was a sense of urgency to their desperation to save Rory, but there were also believable setbacks and obstacles. There’s also an absolutely despicable villain who is super fun to hate and root against.
Yes, the language was a bit antiquated and the commitment to writing in the accent grew tiresome in some spots. But the story was more than enough to counter that for me. There’s an interesting side plot of Drummond’s family having inherited healing powers or prophetic visions from his mother, but since Drummond believes he doesn’t have any of those abilities, the story doesn’t overly rely on this detail. But it’s fun nonetheless.
The story enthralled me from the first page. It has so much., suspense, trials of a single mother, desire, and murder.
The hero is everything you could want, sinsitive, kind, smart and handsome.. The herione is smart and doesn't take anything off anyone.
Special Healer's, Disputes, Family:
Another beautiful addition to this terrific all inspiring series.
This is a very emotionally based story with wonderful characters.
Drummond who is a strong warrior with a caring heart of gold and he will discover his special gift as time goes on. Morven a stalwart lass raising her young son alone has been through her share of sorrow and trouble.
A story that grabs you right from the start and it hangs on till the very end.
They first meet in a most unusual way and from there their romance begins.
The plot is intense, sometimes tragic, a bit mystical, sweet confession, undeniable attraction, conquering fears and learning to trust.
As far as the revivers go their ending could not have gone better.
The epilogue wraps everything up to a wonderful conclusion.
A lovely story that reunites the reader back to many of the characters from previous books.
This book is a stand-alone story, but I highly recommend reading the entire series.
I anxiously look forward to more special talents of the siblings.
Mild Adult Scenes:
I did receive and advanced copy for my honest opinion.
