This is a pretty straight forward counting book. I appreciated that it both showed the numeric and written out versions of each number. My little one loves counting books like this. As do I, since it helps boost confidence for kids who are learning their numbers.
Adorable counting book. Illustrations are sweet and simple and depict diversity. Would be a great book to use in a classroom.
123 Who Comes Next? is a children's counting book. Each spread features a muted colored scribble-style illustration and one number. As you flip the pages a new person, animal, or thing is added to the group, and the numbers ascend. Young children (best for 1-3 years) will practice counting and guessing what will come next. This would be a great addition to a diaper bag for moments when a little distraction is needed for toddlers.
Very simple counting book for toddlers. There is no text beyond the numbers, but kids might find the whimsical assortment of characters representing each number amusing. This is definitely one where an adult reading partner would need to encourage a child to extrapolate and expand on the story, but it might be a fun way to get imaginations going!
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
This was a cute counting book for very young children. The art work was sweet, and it was fun to guess who/what might be represented for each subsequent number.
Definitely full of surprises! 123 Who Comes Next? really allows space for making predictions in addition to being a counting book. Would be great for a Kindergarten or Preschool classroom!
This little picture book is a simple, clear way to introduce counting to 10 to little ones. After reading it with him, my 2.5-year-old wanted to read it three more times in a row (and he would have kept going if we didn't have to stop for lunch)! I would say this book is toddler-approved.
There is no text beyond the written number and the Arabic numeral, and I like that the color of the number corresponds to the color of the character it goes with (e.g., "1 one" is in orange because the boy wears an orange shirt), and the characters also have their corresponding number written on their shirt/body.
I do wish that the characters would have stayed in order of number; as more characters join the page, they are huddled together in a way that you can't count in a straight line and maintain the same order of characters (#5 pig stands behind #1 boy and #2 girl, for example).
While I do wish that the characters had more varied facial expressions--and please don't get me wrong because there WERE varied facial expressions--I thought the illustrations presented good opportunity to talk about how the characters were feeling.
This book is appropriate for young children (I'd say ages 0-3 but could go beyond).
Thank you to the publisher for a complimentary digital copy of this book in exchange for honest feedback.
It’s very hard for a board book to be supremely memorable. This book is so simple! Count from one to 10. What knocks it out of the park are the illustrations. First there is one child then there is two children then there’s an adult and then it just gets crazy. You get snakes and walruses but they’re all anthropomorphic. The expression on the faces of the illustrated as new illustrations is added makes it fantastic. The mom figure has this OMG look on her face and the look on the kids’ faces change every time something is added. Solid five stars to a board book
This simple counting picture book tells the story of a new person joining the picture on each page. The only words on the page are the number words from 1 to 10, but yet the story will be obvious to young babies and toddlers. This book would be a great fit for small children to develop number sense and literacy concepts such as which way to hold the book and the idea of flipping pages. I would recommend this book to parents of preschool children. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!
123 Who Comes Next? is a silly counting book, perfect for young children learning to count. I laughed really hard throughout the book while looking at the boy's (number 1's) face as the rest of the creatures pile in the page. You first think that it might be a family counting as it starts off with a young boy, maybe his little sister, then his mom, and then dog. But then things get weird and wacky and I felt like the young boy's facial expressions broke the 4th wall in a sense. I laughed and it was great.
Thank you NetGalley and Star Bright Books for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
123 Who Comes Next is a wonderful counting book. Not only for counting, but for making predictions, which is wonderful for little ones. As I read this book with my 3 year old, we talked about what number came next, followed by making predictions as to which person or animal would come next. The illustrations were simple in design, but beautiful.

123 What Comes Next? is a great book to read with children. I loved how there was no text, making it interactive and multifunctional. It can be used to count and learn to sequence, but it also encourages language and storytelling.
