I DNFed this one; I wasn't vibing with the characters or the plot at all. I love Alisha Rai, but this one just wasn't doing it for me!
I love Alisha and this sounded amazing... sadly it was a bit underwhelming.
I liked Mira and Nareen well enough. They're both good people with secrets in their pasts. They're thrown back together amid this so-called mystery, but I just didn't connect with them as a couple. I did enjoy several of the side characters and could have done with more of them.
Plot wise, it was a little boring. Even though they were on the run, the tension was non-existent. There wasn't the sense of urgency I was expecting for this sort of set up and that made it easy for me to set down and ignore.
Overall, something kept me reading and I did like the ending and epilogue, but I could have easily left this unfinished.
**Huge thanks to the publisher for providing the arc free of charge**
I really enjoyed this book! It gave me Mr and Mrs Smith vibes. I haven't read many action adventure romances, but I would definitely love to read more books like this! Great romance. Great representation. And a fun page turner! Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book!
A cute book on second chances, the good the bad and the ugly of family ties, and casually stealing diamonds or sneaking around trying to avoid both criminals and cops. A fun blast to read when you're in the doldrums.
One of my all time favorite kind of movies has always been the 'caper' movies like Ocean's 11, and this book delivers all of the best of that in book form!
Alisha Rai created a gem in this book. Not only do the escapades of these characters delight, but the matchmaking and the romance is on point. I enjoyed the dynamic between our characters, and this was probably my favorite of Alisha Rai's to date!
TW: gun violence, kidnapping, body shaming, alcoholism, death of parent
This romantic suspense novel about a jewelry heist that utilizes the second chance romance trope is the first book I’ve read by Alisha Rai.
Overall, I liked the book because it was unique given the suspense elements but didn’t love it. Though I didn’t expect the twists, the ending felt a little too convoluted and far-fetched. That being said, I think this book would make a great movie.
What I liked:
- Mira was a forensic accountant
- complicated family dynamics, which affected how Mira handled her dating life
- Indian Matchmaking (reality TV show on Netflix) influences
- the setting of Little India in Artesia, a place I’ve visited quite often
- the book was quite steamy 🌶️🌶️🌶️
This was a wild ride! A fun, but wild ride. This would make the perfect rom-com caper film. It's got the romantic suspense, but also the comedy and drama needed to make this the perfect fun escape. I really liked this one and can't wait to read more from Alisha Rai.
I'm on the fence with this one. The book starts out cute with both h/h having gone to a matchmaker and actually dating for a while. I wasn't expecting it to go from romance to kidnapping and them being on the run. I liked the setup in the beginning more than the adventure.
This book was okay. Wasn’t great, wasn’t terrible. Good quick read though

I really enjoyed the narrators for this one!
The two mcs are successful professionals but they used to date and were forced into seeing each other again because of a will from her auntie.
This one was so fun and I’m so here for a romantic adventure! Plus I love those matchmaking aunties! This was such a fun fast paced adventure and romance. Mira couldn’t seem to find a match and it wasn’t for lack of trying it was cause she couldn’t escape her family.
There was one she let go for his own sake and now they are stuck on a wild night together being kidnapped and trying to find a lost jewel.
Love these kind of romances. Romance happens in any and all circumstances.
Thank you librofm and harperaudio for the alc for my honest and voluntary review.
Four stars. Quick. Sexy. Engaging. Funny. I figured out one twist but it was still satisfying and I really didn't see the rest of it coming. I am Rai fan and this felt great as it had been a minute since I read her. Highly recommend.
This is romance mixed with suspense, requiring quite a bit of suspension of belief. Mira is upset after the loss of her aunt, the only family member who she still talks to after having been estranged from her sister and father. Instead of leaving her aunt's lawyer's office with some healing, she is led on a wild chase with her ex-boyfriend Naveen around Las Vegas. This is supposed to be the suspenseful part of the book, but I struggled with feeling compelled to find out what would happen next. Everything was just so outrageous. I haven't read a lot of romantic suspense before, and maybe this is a sign that the sub-genre isn't for me. But I picked it up because I adored Alisha Rai's previous works (the Modern Love series). So the writing and characters were good, but it was the plot where I struggled. So that's on me. It was still a fun read, and if you are happy to suspend belief - then I think you'll really enjoy it. I did really enjoy the Indian matchmaking and connections to one's culture aspects of the book, and the way the romance developed. Thank you to Netgalley and Avon for the advanced copy!
Cute rom-com caper! I'm sad I put off reading this one as long as I did because it was a fun little second chance romance adventure. Nice and fluffy with characters who have their own flaws but are dealing with them.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for my thoughts.
My love for Partners in Crime stems from the action and the characters. Firstly, I love the premise. Exes who are thrown together by the death of Mira's aunt and then they're kidnapped. Yes you read that right. Because Mira has some secrets that even Naveen never knew that are coming back to haunt them. And in their case kidnap them and threaten their family. Excuse me but what? With that premise, Partners in Crime instantly rocketed to my favorite Alisha Rai.
Even more so, Partners in Crime is dual POV so we are able to see Mira's secrets and the ways she mourns the loss of their relationship. At the same time, we can see Naveen's confusion - heck a dude just got kidnapped - but also the ways in which he comes to see Mira in a new light. With electric chemistry, there are plenty of sparks both in anger, frustration, and on the run. The plot of Partners in Crime is enough to convince me there needs to be a movie.
I love Alisha Rai. Her characters are always so playful and complex. This novel was adventurous and wild much different than her others in the best way. Absolutely loved
I wanted to love this one but unfortunately it just didn't work for me. Unfortunately, there just didn't seem to be a lot of depth here, and that's absolutely something I need out of my romance reads. This was my first Alisha Rai and it fell a bit flat, but I'd certainly be interested in trying another!
This hovered somewhere between 3.5 and 4 stars for me, but I liked it! Definitely a lot of twists and turns, all still while being a romantic comedy. It was what I thought Dial A for Aunties was going to be, and I truly enjoyed how much humor and wit Alisha Rai could pack into her story while also still building up her characters and writing what sort of feels like a love letter to Las Vegas. I wouldn't compare it to any of her previous books, and I think she will gain a lot of new fans because of this book. It was definitely a ride, and if you love your romances with a side of adventure (and maybe some mild gunplay), this is the one for you.
I had a hard time putting this book down. Alisha Rai does it again! I enjoyed the characters and I felt like I was in the story with them. This book is different and refreshing from others in it's genre. Must read!.
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Mira is an accountant with a "shady" past that has kept her from making a match like she so desires. Three years and thirteen matches in, she prompted gets rejected by her most recent match and expects her matchmaker to be getting ready to fire her. She is also suddenly called to settle her recently deceased aunt's estate and finds out that her aunt's lawyer was her first match's grandfather. Since his grandfather is unwell, Naveen is covering for him at his law firm and ends up face to face with Mira. Both feel the attraction but feel awkward after how things ended years ago, with Mira running away for fear of things not working between them. As she is walking out of the law office, Mira is kidnapped and forced back into her father's life of crime which she escaped when she turned 18. Through a crazy series of heists and investigation to find the alleged necklace that her father had stolen, Mira and Naveen are forced to work together and end up actually realizing how much they mean to each other. It was a high suspense fun read that I would recommend.
I’m a big fan of Alisha Rai’s Modern Love series and I guess I was thinking this would be similar—definitely not! The suspense and crime were totally new and while I didn’t necessarily dislike them, this was definitely not my favorite backdrop for a romance. It was fine, but I don’t think I’ll be reaching for it again.
