Loved this book! Wonderful world building and lovely descriptions. Most of the book is pretty fast pace and action packed! The political intrigue wasn’t as developed as it could have been but I can’t wait to read the next one! 😍😍

One word: Reven <3

I am in love with this book, and I have already started book two. I am so excited to see where it goes, hopefully there is more spice. I love the characters so much and this is so interesting.

I am late to this book, but I really loved the adaptation of the Grimm tale and Meren, as a character, grew on me. I loved her interactions with Reven, sarcasm is my love communication style so when I read good sarcasm, I do a giddy little dance. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Highly recommend!! Reminds me of Ember of Night by Molly E. Lee combined with a touch of An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir.

4 out of 5 stars over all, this is upper YA, so 1.5 out of 5 for on page consensual sex with some detail that is more than fade to black.

I had no idea what to expect when I began The Stolen Throne but was soon transported into a magical kingdom with life-like characters I quickly fell in love with. The premise of this book is original. A fresh idea, full of characters and quests that give a new spin on Fantasy. Meren, the main character in this book, is a second-born twin, she's the stand-in for her sister the princess. Content with her role, she's determined to protect her sister at all costs, even if it means being stolen away by a neighboring country. Which leads to Meren actually discovering a bit more about herself. The twist and turns in this story were unexpected, taking me on a wild adventure I couldn't put down.

*There are a few triggers, so read the warnings before buying.* As soon as I see this author has a new book, I’m there. The cover is gorgeous (I’m thinking I might need a paperback for my shelves) 😉 This author knows how to write paranormal romance (please look at her Inferno Rising/Fire’s Edge series) Balancing the plot and romance is always tricky. Writing for a YA (Young Adult) audience when a lot of your books aren’t YA takes skill. So enough about the author, let’s get down to the book….. Meren is a twin (the younger one) and as tradition states her life is to be in the shadows, she’s there to protect her sibling (if danger arises Meren is expected to sacrifice herself!) so her confidence in herself is nonexistent, she chafes at her role in life, but there isn’t anything she can do about it…. But Meren does escape the Ivory tower she’s locked away in (to Meren it’s more like a dungeon.) She wanders the streets at night whilst wearing different disguises. Plot is skilfully layered with twists/turns and OMG moments…. As you read the book, things become clearer and a few things make sense. The descriptions in this book place you right in the moment, you can smell the streets that Meren visits, you can see the grandeur of the palace, and you witness King Eidolon’s sickness/madness. King Eidolon is after Meren’s sister Tabra, so she does the job she was born to do, she stands in her place, and becomes King Eidolon’s bride! (I wouldn’t trust this guy an inch) But before the wedding takes place, Meren is kidnapped!! Reven is a complex character, essentially good, but his secret makes him reluctant to be actually good?! His character has plenty of conflicting emotions and motivations. And he certainly gets more than he bargained for when he kidnaps the wrong princess!! And then we have Cain 🤔 and in the world’s I read why can’t she have both 😉? The characters have a hard time trusting one another as they travel through this story. Kidnappers are usually nice people, so when does the kidnapper become protector? (You’ll need to read the book😉) Can Meren save her sister from the clutches of Eidolon? Can she figure out what Eidolon really wants? Can she be the hero in this story? And can I get the next book please. I wouldn’t say it’s a cliffhanger ending, but it does leave us and the characters wondering where this will take us next….. Enemies to lovers ✔️ Kidnapping ✔️ Magic ✔️ Adventure ✔️ Secrets ✔️ 🦋

Rating: 4.5/5
A second born that is hidden away and the only purpose they have is to be, the other twins stand in when there is a dangerous situation. Oh yeah, and that second born is a princess so when they’re doing their duty, that makes them pretend to be the queen.

This was the first Abigail Owen that I have read, and I really enjoyed it. It’s a fantasy, with romance, drama, action, finding oneself and so much more.

The author did an amazing job with worldbuilding. It was woven throughout the whole book with vivid details about the setting to the plot, the characters to the flow of the book.

All the characters in this book are now on my list of my favorite characters. I loved Meren so much, she is so sassy and fierce. I enjoyed seeing an FMC that was not scared all the time but had her own doubts about topics, she wasn’t afraid to find out the truth about everything and I loved that when she was nervous, she would ramble on and on. I know that I do that, so it was easy to connect with her. I loved her dreams of people, her own person but at the same time knowing her duty to the life she was born to.

Raven, he is one sexy kidnapper, and I wouldn’t mind if he wanted to kidnap me with his shadows. I enjoyed the banter between these characters a lot and I never once felt like it was forced to be “love”. It was just a slow burn and great chemistry between them and a great “YES!” moment when it finally happens.

The book does end with a small cliffhanger, but the way it was done, I didn’t get the feeling omg how could you do that to us. It was wrapped up nicely enough, but also not enough and left you wanting the next one right away.

If you love trope enemies to lovers, paranormal romance, fantasy, great characters, great flow/pace, interesting magic system I highly recommend this book

I want to Thank NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for this ACR and this book wasn’t the story I thought it was going to be. So in this world, every other generation, there are set of twin queens that are born. The second twin is always kind of used as the spare heir and is basically raised for if the queen ever asked to do something dangerous, the twin can be in her place. As you can guess that’s not the life that this twin wants, but on her coronation day, she gets taken. But the wrong twin gets taken. The spare twin gets taken. And then basically, the story becomes the quotation marks bad guy bringing her into this world and just things ensue. I expected the story to be more about the twins and their relationship and I thought the adventure it happened within the castle not outside of it. This book was a bit slow for me about in the first task, but it was intriguing enough to where I wanted to keep reading it. And when stuff hits the fan stuff, hits the fan and the story gets so engaging and I’m so invested in it and I read it within two days. I am very happy that I have the ark for the next book so I can just jump right into that.

This is a sweet YA romance fantasy. It started with a young queen giving birth a daughter. A Demi god was supposed to give the newborn a blessing but a curse as ordered by a dark king. To the demigod’s surprise, another babe is born resulting in identical twins. One is cursed and another isn’t. Mother passed away and one of the twins is carried away quickly and quietly with a severe warning to others who were in the same room by the older Queen who demands that everyone else is to know of the twin’s death along with the mother who died in birthing the twins.
More than 20 years later, we find Meren is still the secret twin training to protect her sister at all costs. Meren meets up with her twin after their grandmother the Queen died. Her sister is next in line. After meeting up with her sister, Meren was kidnapped mistaken for her twin.
I adore this story. I love all the characters as they were well developed throughout the book. I was SO hooked from the beginning. Meren and Reven is one of the cutest fantasy couples of all time! I need to dive into next book, The Stolen Crown because there was a cliff hanger at the end of the liar’s crown.
You guys will not be disappointed. It has magic, good and bad, dangers, battles, Robin Hood feels in the forest and many more!
Four high stars from me!
Thank you for this awesome ARC eBook, Entangled:Teen and Netgalley!!
As usual, all of my reviews are purely my own opinions without any influence from any publishers.

Twin sisters have secretly been sharing the throne of the dominion of Aryd for decades because of a longstanding threat to their kingdom. Unbeknownst to everyone else, their queen is actually two different people—one the heir and one the spare. Meren has been raised with the sole purpose of stepping into her sister's life if things should ever go wrong—which they promptly do after the reigning queen unexpectedly passes.

I thought this was a solid start to a new (to me) fantasy series. It has a really unique world-building that I think others will find interesting as well, however, some aspects of the plot could have been better developed (I know that we slowly gain information as the story/series progresses, but even when that happened, it didn’t feel like it necessarily explained previous things fully or that they connected properly). Either way, I did enjoy the story and it left me wanting to know how everything ends!

Also, I just want to say how pretty the cover is! From what I can tell, it looks like embroidery and I love that. I wish I had a physical copy because I’m sure it is stunning in person.

I thought that the premise of the book was really interesting. When I first saw this book I had high hopes and I was a little disappointed by the outcome. While I did enjoy the book, it didn't really capture my attention and I felt like the romance was a bit forced. I will probably read the next book because I did enjoy the writing and I do think that the book has potential. I recommend this book to fans of Shadow and Bone and Twin Crowns.

This book is an absolute masterpiece. From the first word, it hooks you in and doesn't let go until the very end. The story revolves around Meren, a nobody living in squalor who happens to be the secret identical twin of Tabra, the princess of Aryd. Meren's purpose in life is to serve as a replacement for her sister in times of danger, and there's no shortage of danger for their family with Eidolon, the immortal king of Tyndra, killing off Arydan queens for generations.

Meren has secret acts of disobedience that are just for her, and Reven, the Shadowraith, also has his own secrets, including the ability to manipulate shadows. When Meren takes Tabra's place at the coronation to protect her, Reven kidnaps Meren instead. As Meren tries to escape from him, secrets are revealed and nothing is what it seems.

This YA fantasy novel is full of intrigue, fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic backstories, secrets, mystical coincidences, snark, laughs, and unexpected plot twists. But it's also a deeply emotional book that tells the story of stunted, damaged, and bruised characters who find their way together by owning their choices, recognizing their scars, finding their strength, embracing life, and deciding to be the best version of themselves. At its heart, it's a story about the power of choice.

The book is well-written with characters who have a lot of depth, witty dialogue, and an engaging storyline. The adventure of Meren and Reven will give you all the feels - laughing, crying, swooning, gasping, cringing, teeth gritting, and cheering. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

My God this book was so good. I absolutely love it. The world building phenomenal. The plot heart gripping. The characters, chef's kiss. The enemies to lovers, omg.im obsessed. I love it.

Meren and Reven. This grumpy shadowboy and Foul mouthed princess. I couldn't get enough of it. My heart just got so fluttery. This story was so funny and heart warming and blushy and I just can't get enough of it and will be diving into book 2 real soon.

I loved seeing Reven's heart change into loving Meren and him fighting his shadows to protect her. The way he helped her through her fears and how she in turn became his rock to help keep his shadows at bay.

Quotes I loved:

" Don't let me fall, " " Never"

"Well cut off my head and call me a basan. "- 😂😂

" Touch me without permission again and I'll cut your balls off"- Meren is just so badass. I love her

And so much more.

Can't wait for book 2.

4,5/5 stars

The Liar's Crown had me hooked from start to end by its plot, the world in which it takes place and its characters.

Meren was born to replace her twin sister Tabra, princess of Aryd, in dangerous situations, so she must live in the shadows, hidden and without telling anyone the truth of her identity. But everything changes when on the day of the coronation she is mistakenly kidnapped by the enemy.

One of the points in favor of this book is that it has short chapters and there is action from the beginning. Personally, I appreciate that the author goes to the point and explains what is fair and necessary at the beginning about the main characters and the kingdom they inhabit. In some books the beginning is so long that it bores, here it does not happen. The first three chapters are introductory and the main plot begins in the fourth. It is an enemies to lovers, so there is no lack of a tug of war between Meren and Reven, the main characters, something that I love and it has been a lot of fun. There is no love triangle, so if you are the type of person who does not like that cliché you can read it without problems. A fantasy story in which the female leader's powers will have a very important role, either to save the domains or to destroy them.

The world in which it takes place seems quite original to me. It is divided into six domains, each having its own Goddess. The kingdom of Meren and Tabra is called Aryd, and it is where part of the story takes place. A desert domain surrounded by a barrier created by its Goddess and in danger of running out of water. Another of the domains that appears is Tyndra, a frozen land, home to Eidolon (Aryd's enemy), an immortal King who hides a terrible secret. And another curiosity is that people are divided into two classes, people who have powers and those who have not, "Vex". And in turn, people with powers are divided into Hylorae and Enfernae. Nothing complicated to understand.

And finally I want to talk about the characters. This is what caught my attention and I liked the most about the book. Meren is the type of female leader that I love, the one who doesn't give up and has a huge heart, capable of sacrificing herself to help others. During this first book, she undergoes an evolution, both personally and with her powers, and that makes her more charismatic. Reven, on the other hand, is a trunk full of secrets that are revealed little by little, leaving someone vulnerable in plain sight. As I said before, the dynamics of these two is the best in the book, scenes of tension interspersed with the most comical moments that have made me laugh more than once.

Abigail Owen has been a pleasant surprise for me as an author. And I can only recommend this fantasy trilogy, full of action, romance, magic and secrets.

Wow I loved this so much!

Meren and Tabra are twin princess and now the Queen is dead. However Meren is basically a hidden stand-in to protect her twin. One day pretending to be her sister, she is taken.

Meren assumes it's the evil King Eidolan......but
what a guy the kidnapper is! Reven. The Shadow Wraith!

I must admit the magic system was a bit confusing as there was a few types but I got there in the end!

However here's the stuff I loved:

~ The bond between the twins
~ The world building
~ Reven and Meren's chemistry
~ The pace and plot were spot on
~ The secondary characters were fleshed out and totally likable.

Bring on book 2!

I am addicted. I devoured this book within 24 hours. I read both my ebook copy and, in order to keep reading while I had to do chores around the house, I borrowed the audiobook from my local library. The audiobook narrator was amazing, so I can recommend both the book and the audiobook.

I LOVE the FMC. Meren is so funny and a complete badass. I love how she's terrified of what's going on around her, but she refuses to let it show. Instead, she has some gamazing, witty banter. Speaking of banter, her banter with Reven had me rolling. Reven is such a good and likable MMC. He's very mysterious while also having the "hurt her and you'll die" vibes.

I adored the romance in this. The tension between Meren and Reven is just TOO good. There's so many good steamy scenes. I was panting. Their chemistry is hot hot hot hot.

The world building was also great. The author is very good at giving vivid depictions of the world around Meren. I loved the Shadowhood the most (it very much gave me Peter Pan and the lost boys vibes).

Great YA romantasy. I also saw somewhere that this series might go more New Adult? If that's true, I CANNOT WAIT.

The Liar’s Crown starts off at a slow pace to help us understand Meren’s responsibilities and to get to know the political subterfuge throughout the kingdoms. I didn’t get invested in the characters until about 30% in. Overall, I enjoyed the this fantasy. Recommend to high fantasy lovers.

"The Liar's Crown" is a captivating and emotionally charged romance novel that follows the story of two individuals who find themselves unexpectedly drawn to one another despite their past traumas and secrets.
At the heart of every great romance novel is the relationship between the main characters. Whether it is a slow-burning love story that builds over time or an intense, passionate connection that ignites immediately, the chemistry between the characters is what draws readers in. And it was extremely clear here in this book, making me root for the characters that much more. With their engaging characters, swoon-worthy love stories, and wonderful world building, The Liar’s Crown is sure to capture your heart and leave you wanting more.

I'm really loving these romantasy releases that have been coming out. Among the many, The Liar's Crown was such an enjoyable diversion. I don't know that it's for everyone, but it certainly hit me in a happy spot.
Meren's birth doesn't mean much for the world, but means everything to her twin. She isn't meant to be in the limelight, her whole purpose is to sacrifice and protect her sister. When the time comes to take her sister's place, her mistaken identity leads to a kidnapping and maybe a little Stockholm syndrom. I say this lightly, but, at it's root, that's exactly what it is and I was here for the entire journey.
With book two on the horizon, I'm eager to see what happens with Meren and Reven in the fall out. The ending was exactly what I wanted from a series beginner, satisyfying but open-ended.
Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Many thanks to Entangled Publishing for a gifted copy of the ebook for The Liar's Crown. I thought the concept of the book was interesting. Twin girls, one who is destined to rule and one who simply doesn't exist in the eyes of the world. There are some great tropes in this one like enemies to lovers and mistaken identity. I think there are also hints of a love triangle brewing. Be forewarned there is a cliffhanger. It's slow to start but it picked up and I didn't see some of it coming. I'm looking forward to reading the sequel soon as I was lucky enough to receive an early copy.
