This little fun and action packed story all about a little lion and his family, take us on what their lives look like on a day to day basis! 🦁

It explains how lion prides work, what each member of the lion family does to help out the pride, as well as the dangers of the African Savannah.

The book also contains some fun puzzles, quizzes and activities to teach children (and adults!) more about Lions!

It also reminds us that it is up to us, and only us, to help take care of the planet and its animals. 🫶🏽

My 2 year old daughter was obsessed with this book! It was such a cute read and was more educational than I realized. She loved the bright pages and all the activities scattered throughout. It was such an interactive book that I think will engage readers over a broad span of ages.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. I am loving these Really Wild Families books. Each book is about the animal in a fun picture book type of way and then in the back is information and pictures about the animal. This one is about Lions.

I’m greatly impressed by this book. It is a picture book, but it gives true facts. What really impressed me is that it mentions facts not normally found in books for this age. It mentions marking territory with urine, how the females of the pride hunt at night. And one thing I had not read anywhere else is how when the water hole dries up, they get their water from the plants surrounding the area by the water hole. Great tidbits like this make this a great resource for any age

A thoroughly enjoyable story in which a lion club explains how lions live, hunt, socialize, etc. It is told from the POV of a cub which makes it more personable. While facts are relayed, they are told like how a child would describe his family. The illustrations are cute and a great supplement to the story telling.

I received an ARC from Quarto Publishing through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.

Lots of lion facts, but easy to understand information for little ones. We loved the illustrations and learning new things about one of our favourite cats!

Little Lion tells the story of a lion cub in a pride of lions on the African savannah. The book is part of a series entitled Really Wild Families. Using the format of “A Day in the Life of”, Anna Brett conveys a tremendous amount of information about the roles, habits and routines of each member of the pride, ranging from the lioness hunting at night to the need for adolescent males to leave the pride at some point.
Although packed with facts, the story is not overstuffed or cumbersome. It is told by one of the youngest members of the pride – Little Lion – who is a very relatable character. The illustrations by Carmen Saldana are vibrant, enhance the story, and are arranged strategically to propel the story forward.
Readers will find additional fun facts at the end of the book as well as a variety of activities that include a puzzle, craft, and a quiz to reinforce the information within the story. This story would appeal to readers preK- 2nd/3rd grade. It is charming and easily understood by younger readers but also offers depth to hold the interest of older readers.

Quite an accurate and cute depiction of life in a pride of lions, as told through the eyes of a cub. (The narrator cub has a spot on its eye, and my kid LOVED finding that cub in every picture. A little additional seek-and-find!) And the cuteness is most remarkable, considering this book does not shy away from depicting lions eating a carcass, fighting hyenas, and licking wounds. I'm really impressed with how the artist managed to portray wild life with realism, but not in a manner that will disturb kids.

There's a LITTLE sanitizing of some aspects of lion life, but in a manner that's suitable for children. For example, when one of the near-adult male cubs leaves the pride, the book does show the outcast's trepidation, but portrays the pride's lead male as roaring "to remind him that he's old enough to survive on his own now." The exile probably would have been more violent in the real world, but for a kid's book, it strikes a good balance: showing kids that the pride isn't a persistent monarchy (looking at you, The Lion King,) while also not vilifying a normal part of the lion lifecycle.

The book ends with 15 full pages of more detailed lion facts and activities. The facts are more text-heavy and won't interest the youngest reader, but the activities are quite simple, and my 4-year-old enjoyed them.

Advanced reader copy provided by the publisher.

Thank you NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for gifting me an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is an interesting and educational book for young children. It has tons of facts about lions, but is done in a way that is not overwhelming. The illustrations are beautiful and the extra facts and fun activities at the end are a great addition!

This is a very informative read with delightful illustrations. I think that the story did a great job at describing and explaining what it is like for young lions in a pride which is a cool perspective to read from. I think that small children are going to be very entertained and also learn some new information about lions through reading this book. I thought that the extra pages of fun facts at the end was a nice touch and adds a level of education that is lacking in other books for his age range. Overall, I think that this book was very well done.

Little Lion is such a cute book. Not only is it a fun story with amazing illustration, it is also educational.

My daughter loved the lion facts and all the extra lion facts and activities at the end.

We have read this book many times and she can now recite it word for word and must have her stuffed lion with her when we read it.

We recently went to the zoo and she told our friends all about the lions thanks to Anna Brett’s Little Lion.

I received an electronic ARC from Quarto Publishing Group – QEB Publishing through NetGalley.
Brett takes readers through a day in the life of a lion cub. Readers see the start of the day when the lionesses bring back breakfast through the evening when they settle for sleep. Each portion of the day is shared and explained by the young lion who serves as the narrator. Readers will feel they are moving through the Savannah with her. I appreciate the informative text included at the end and think readers will enjoy the games and puzzles included as well.
This one will not stay on the shelf once elementary readers see it.

This is a beautifully illustrated children's book which is full of interesting information about lions. My daughter and I absolutely loved learning about little lion and her family. Little lion shows us how her family is made up, and what they all do each day and night. We learn how they survive, where they live, what they eat and how they protect themselves. There is also fun activity sections at the end of the book, which will keep you and your little ones busy! This is an amazing book, which I highly recommend!

Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.

The fun facts and DIY activities at the end are highly appreciated. There are also some actual pictures of the lions. I really like this book! Little Lion tells the story of a day in the life of a young lion as told by the lion. He explains the world around him such as the food he eats, the interactions of his family group, and adaptations of behaviours that are essential for lions' survival. Author, Anna Brett, merges the world of fiction and non-fiction in a way that is educational but also interesting and enjoyable for young children. This book is written in a way that is relatively easy to follow and comprehend and does not include a lot of scientific vocabulary or concepts, yet still teaches a significant amount of information about the animal. As a result, this book could be used for research and learning about lions, but also would fit right in with other picture book favourites on a book shelf or in a classroom library. The story ends with several pages of non-fiction information about the facts from the story as well as games, activities and suggestions of crafts or other learning opportunities aimed at young readers. As a Grade 3 teacher I could definitely see this book in my classroom library. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the age 4-10 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

Thank you to Net Galley and Quatro Publishing for the opportunity to read this E-Arc of Little Lion by Anna Brett. This is my own independent review of this children's book.

Little Lion by Anna Brett follows the story of a young girl Lion as she tells the reader, what it is like to grow up in a pride of Lions. As the story progresses we learn about her dads fluffy and majestic main, how she plays with her siblings, how her mom carries her as she gets tired. The story then also addresses some other items that could be scarier for young readers, such as a group of Hyenas that the dad has to chase off and how their pride hunts for food. However Anna Brett does a great job presenting this material in a way that is educational and not so detailed that is would be scary for younger readers. A great bonus is that at the end of the story, there is pictures of real Lions, activities for the readers (like puzzles) and a fun quiz at the end.

This was a really fun take on educating young children. We really loved the story and it was easy for my kids at 4 and 6 years of age to understand. The illustrations of the story are very bright and detailed. There is a page of an animal that the pride is eating, however it is not super detailed of what it is and my kids didn't mind, they tend to be more on the sensitive side. I really loved how the tigers were illustrated as well, its playful and each lion has their own details.

I would recommend this book to pre-schoolers or young school age kids. It was really fun and I look forward to reading more from this author.

Pretty, colourful and informative. Definitely a classic cute children's book. I loved how it didn't focus solely on story telling, but also chose to include facts for a fun way to have kids learn. The interactive games in the end were also super fun and enjoyable.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for an E-Arc.
