This book takes cheesiness and tropes to the max but in the best ways possible. I laughed and I cried and I swooned more times than I can count. I adore Rosie and Lucas as characters, both individually and together, and loved seeing them grow as they fell in love. I would advise reading The Spanish Love Deception first to give this story more depth, though as a standalone I think it would work, too. Having Lina and Aaron as supporting characters was a treat. Elena Armas, you are officially on my auto-buy list after this!
Thank you to Atria Books via Netgalley the eARC! All opinions expressed are my own.

Elena Armas is easily now one of my favorite romance authors. The American Roommate Experiment was absolutely perfect. I adored The Spanish Love Deception and it will always hold a special place in my heart but this one was flawless. Rosie and Lucas were so cute together and I enjoyed the slow burn and angst. This is hands down my favorite book I read this year. I wish I can give it more than five stars because I loved it so much. I can’t wait to have a physical copy. Thank you NetGalley for giving me this amazing opportunity to receive an early copy.

What an incredible, refreshing love story. Rosie and Lucas are everything I love in a romance story. This book felt like an homage to romance books and reminded me of why I read them in the first place: strong female character, strong male character, a good hearted love story that’s reminding the girl why she deserves love without taking away from her femininity. What a brilliant job.

I loved this book and everything about the characters. I was a big fan of her first book the spanish love deception and loved that the characters from that book were in this one. It gave me a bigger sense of the importance of family from reading the first book. I found myself hoping that the the main characters would get together in the end. It was a quick and easy and enjoyable read. I love all of Elena's books.

The American Roommate Experiment may be one of my favorite books of the year. I cannot wait for the rest of the world to get their hands on it.
Rosie has recently quit her job to become a romance author, with a book deadline looming and no inspiration. Thankfully, that luck is about to change with her best friend’s cousin banging on the door of the apartment. Lucas, Rosie’s all time crush, is needing to stay at the same place Rosie is needing to be at… with only one bed.
Lucas and Rosie decide to room together to save one another hotel fees. Once he proposes a crazy idea/experiment to be her dating inspiration, exactly four dates in six weeks, to allow her to write her novel, all bets are off. Rosie can keep her feelings in check and not do any crazy romantic gestures right? Nothing could go wrong or get awkward. It’s just an experiment with a deadline.
I devoured Elena Armas’s debut novel in less than a day. Rosie and Lucas’s point of views allowed the reader to get into their heads and experience their feelings. You’ll feel like you are in New York City experiencing city dates with this couple and counting down days til deadlines occur. The American Roommate Experiment had me in my emotions about sixty percent of the way in and thankfully, I was satisfied with the ending/ epilogue. I recommend fans of Armas’s first book read this one as well as anyone who is a fan of the romantic comedy.

This was a very fun. Sweet slow burn romance! Rosie’s life is kind of a mess and only gets more chaotic when she crashes in her friend’s apartment while she is out of town (Lina from The Spanish Love Deception). Her friend’s brother shows up at the same time traveling from Spain. There are instant sparks but of course, a relationship would be complicated with everything else going on and each person’s feelings staying hidden. Rosie has romance writing block so Lucas (the brother) offers to take her on some lovely dates to restore her faith in romance. Feelings grow, confusion continues, and Lina returns home to play matchmaker. I really enjoyed this storyline and the characters were very loveable. It’s a very entertaining read!
Thanks Elena Armas, Atria Books, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This one was very similar to the first one in the series but I still found it enjoyable. Nothing special, but a fun read that didn't take long to complete.

What a fun follow-up to Armas' first in the series! Rosie & Lucas have a ridiculous but somehow also believeable meet-(un)cute and through various shenanigans come to find out about each other and their living habits. I liked getting glimpses back to Lina & Aaron, and meeting other new characters. Whereas in some novels switching between the protagonists feels off, it works well here!

I was a big fan of Elena Armas in "The Spanish Love Deception". Her story seem to follow the 'slow burn' trope that leaves the reader (me) screaming at the page saying "Of course he loves you Rosie, he cooks every dinner for you!! SOMETHING HE HAS NEVER DONE FOR ANOTHER PERSON"
My thoughts on "The American Roommate Experiment" are as follows:
-I loved Rosie since TSLD and I'm so glad we were able to follow her as she embarks in her own love story.
-Lucas OMGGG LUCASSSSS, the surfer boy vibe he gave off and the way he would speak his Spanish words towards Rosie with care and tenderness, melted my heart.
-Both of the characters really had this instant connection that they had to deny themselves but they still could not hide it for the life of it that they wanted one another....enter slow burn....
-The amount of times I felt like they were both just being dumb, waiting it out because they both knew the end of their little "experiment" was ridiculous. I have a very strong love/hate relationship with slow burn romances, it's tough to not immediately know they're going to work out, because "duh" they're going to work out.
Overall, I felt like this book was very similar to TSLD in terms of the trope and how our main character refuses herself a "happily ever after"

Plain and simple if you liked Spanish love deception you will like this book! Now to the review!
All and all I did enjoy reading this book. It was a little bit long however I feel like thats just how this genre of books goes! From about 50-70% of the book i was ready to skip to the end as i felt i knew the characters well enough and didn't need to keep dragging it out! I think if the author touched more on her brother and dad and his family it would have helped fill in that 30%. We bring up the brother and its all mystery and whats going on and then we just kind of FLY by that part of the book and we are back to will they or won't they (its a romance we know they will it's just a matter of when!)
I did enjoy these two main characters more verse the main characters in Spanish love deception, who do pop in to say hi!
All and all it was a pretty decent book, just lost me for a little bit in the middle. Definitely worth the read if you like a good romcom!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Sorry, needed to let that out without waking up my household. I am SCREAMING (in case that wasn’t obvious from the capitalized and long AH that started this review)!!!!!! THIS WAS SO GODDAMN CUTE AND I WANT IT ALL!!! I’ve never felt so single in my life (I say this everytime i read a book with romance in it but I DONT CARE) and I swear the bar has been raised SO FREAKING HIGH that no one will ever be able to meet my expectations ever again!!
This was a slow burn, fake dating, close proximity, one bed, relationship of convenience (or like mutual agreement that was convenient?), friends to lovers book that CAPTURED MY HEART AND MADE ME SQUEAL ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS!! The relationship between Lucas and Rosie is something that I LOVED and the things he did for her?!!!!!!! Where do I find someone like that? Elena, please, tell me where to find a person like this in the real world because you’ve made me fall in love with a fictional character AGAIN!!

My goodness - what an AMAZING addition to this trope! Oftentimes when you see a deal go down to “fake” date, the “falling in love” progression happens unrealistically fast. What I loved about Lucas and Rosie is that I believed every second of their story. I could imagine how each of them were holding back and attempting to seemed unfazed by the other. I was rooting for Lucas and cheered the moment he finally realized his work and I loved that Rosie took him back instantly once he did. The only part I felt didn’t add up was why Rosie didn’t tell Lina in the first place - it didn’t flow right. Didn’t seem believable. I think Lina could have known from the get go, the first night Rosie tried to get ahold of her, and she still could have be protective and worried. But I seriously want to just read it again.

For me, The American Roommate Experiment was even better than The Spanish Love Deception! I enjoyed Armas’s first book, but the dual-perspective in this book and the story beats made the reading experience a lot nicer even though I did miss the big family vibes that were in TSLD. The way that the characters were brought to life was really great, although I did want to hear Lucas talk more about his former career and it felt as if the relationship progressed slowly (albeit naturally) and then all of a sudden it was moving at warp speed. This book was definitely a lot of fun to read, and the cameos of Lina and Aaron — especially when Aaron is all-knowing towards Lucas — were an absolutely marvellous thing to include.

Thanks to NetGalley for my gifted copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The American Roommate Experiment is a cute rom-com that’s second in a series by Elena Armas.
Rosie is a strong independent woman who, totally out of character, decides to quit her job and become a romance writer. After a successful first published book, she worries about her future as a writer and has writers block.
Lucas is Rosie’s best friends cousin. He’s a dreamboat surfer who Rosie has been secretly crushing on and insta-stalking. While taking a break from the surfing circuit, he visits NYC. A meet cute happens and the fun really begins.
This was a cute follow up to the Spanish Love Deception and it was thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing the ARC.
I was hesitant to pick this book up because I actually didn't like the Spanish Love Deception all that much. But I decided to give this one a shot based off the description, and honestly, I think this book is actually lightyears better than it's predecessor.
This story was a heartfelt, beautiful story that had me laughing, crying, and falling madly in love with both Rosie and Lucas. I loved watching these two be vulnerable with each other and watching their relationship build organically. It managed to capture a lot of the magic and emotion that I felt was lacking from the first book. I would read this again and again.
Amazing book.

THE QUEEN OF SLOW BURN DID IT AGAIN. i fell in such deep and wonderful love with Rosie and Lucas’s story. This book exceeded my expectations. I do however wish they had gotten naked sooner. So good!

Just like the Spanish Love Deception, this book doesn’t disappoint. Unlike the Spanish Love Deception, this book gets to the point much quicker. The chemistry between Lucas and Rosie starts as soon as he crashes through her, or rather Lina’s, door. Lucas is a most delightful book boyfriend who, despite his own troubles, works to ensure that Rosie is successful in her dream. My only qualm about this book is the excess of tropes and unnecessary side characters, I think one or two would have been a great, 6 million is a bit excessive. There were also a few cringe worthy moments that had my shoulders up to my ears. However, Elena Armas fans will be pleased with this one. Thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
As soon as I saw this was from the author of “The Spanish Love Deception” I knew I had to get my hands on it, and I was not disappointed. This time it follows Rosie, Lina’s bff who has a major dose of writers block and needs some romantic inspiration. In comes Lucas, Lina’s cousin, and mmmm the story takes off.
A big thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for choosing me for this ARC of #TheAmericanRoommateExperiment.

The Roommate Experiment is a cute story written by the same author who wrote The Spanish Love Deception. As cute as this was, the first half of the story was kinda slow. I would’ve enjoyed if the pacing was a bit more consistent.

To be completely honest, while I did really enjoy this book, I was kind of.......underwhelmed. The Spanish Love Deception was one of my top reads of March, and I think I was expecting the same thing, or even better.
That being said, Lucas Martín: !!!!!!! He was such a likable character, literally from the get-go. He was funny, cute, caring, and it was super easy for us as the reader to want him as the romantic counterpart to Rosie.
Rosie, on the other hand, was a little harder to get to like in my opinion. She seemed very (almost strangely so) hot and cold with Lucas, fighting really really hard to not let him seduce her or fall for him. I do understand to a certain extent why this was important, and it REALLY added to the tension.
One thing I really wish Armas had done was put more emphasis on Olly! He is Rosie's little brother, she loves him apparently a lot, but he doesn't really come up, even though she knows something is going on. I wish that plot line had been a bit more developed.
All in all, I did really enjoy reading this book, and even though I only had the arc on my phone, I found myself absolutely enthralled for many parts of this story.
