Who doesn’t want a meet-cute with the guy they’re insta stalking?!

I found that the place the characters were in when the novel started was very relatable. Both are at an in-between stage and both are dealing with it alone. It was realistic that they’d need to strike out on personal journeys without telling their families.

Their choices to deal with the new challenges in their lives alone both lays the groundwork for the relationship and makes it sweeter when they connect: they’re together because they want to be with each other not because they want to be with someone.

I did find this book could have been shorter; I think I’d have had an easier time getting into it if it was. The epilogue was very cute though.

The American Roommate Experiment was a fun, fast romp. I devoured it within 24 hours. The tension between Rosie and Lucas was palpable and great. It leaned heavily on tropes (interruptions at romantic moments, one bed, etc.), but it was still a fun ride.

The third act conflict is never my favorite, so I couldn't give this book more than 4 stars. However, it didn't happen until almost the 85% mark and I still greatly enjoyed the rest of the book.

First must be said I did not read "The Spanish Love Deception" and you don't have to, to enjoy this book! Though now I want to.

5/5 story with a 2/5 spice rating.

"The American Roommate Experiment" follows Rosie a former engineer turned romance author who after a series of misfortunate events winds up having to be roomies with Lucas, Rosie's best friend's cousin who she has been harboring an internet crush on for a while. Lucas is visiting New York from Spain for 6 weeks, he is trying to escape his own inner turmoil and was not prepared of the ray of sunshine Rosie, to swoop into his life. The two not only develop their own friendship but maybe something more.

This is a very captivating and tug on the heartstring story, though it is a SLOW BURN!!!

This was so cute! A wonderful romance, filled with witty banter, delightful characters, and just enough steaminess. A must read for romance lovers!

I liked Elena Armas's debut The Spanish Love Deception. I didn't find it to be the pinnacle of romance or the best thing ever written but it was enjoyable, albeit a little bit corny. I'm sure a lot of people, if not everyone, is coming into The American Roommate Experiment having read The Spanish Love Deception and are excited to follow along with Rosie's story and see how our lovebirds Lina and Aaron are doing. So, I liked this book. In some ways, it was better than TSLD, and in other ways, I liked TSLD better. I would put them on par with each other as sweet romances but nothing stood out to me. I'm sure fans of TSLD will eat it right up, though, as it is a solid subsequent novel in the Elena Armas universe. If you're looking for a fun slow, slowburn romance or a diehard fan of Lina's story and want more, you'll love this. Thank you to Atria Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I liked but didn’t love this author’s precious book, but I thoroughly enjoyed the American Roommate Experiment! The characters were so charming, and the slow burn fake dating was done to perfection!

I’m pleasantly surprised at how quickly I fell for Rosie and Lucas.

It’s been a quick minute since I’ve sunken my teeth in a slow burn romance novel. I forgot how much I loved them.

Rosie and Lucas had me hooked from the beginning. The craziness of having to share a loft with a virtual stranger that you’ve maybe stalked on instagram set in New York City, always a favourite destination for me. Rosie the quiet, reliable, introvert and Lucas the lovable, adventurer with a slightly broken heart and spirit.

This is a great read, definitely will be recommending this title to everyone that wants to enjoy a really nice love story.

3.75 stars

This book was super cute and Lucas is obviously my new book boyfriend 🤩 this book is a friend's to lovers who take part in "fake, experimental" dates to help with Rosie's book she is having trouble writing. I reason I only gave it 3.75 stars however is because it definitely put the SLOW in slow burn. Also, I was a bit disappointed in the ending and wish the climax at the end was just a little bit "more". Overall this book was very cute and I really enjoyed the glimpses of lina and aaron as well.

This is the perfect follow up to The Spanish Love Deception! The American Roommate Experiment focuses on Rosie, Catalina's best friend. Rosie is having a tough go at things. She quit her job to focus on writing a romance novel and the ceiling of her apartment caved in, so she is homeless. Rosie goes to Catalina's apartment knowing she is out of town, only to be surprised when Lucas shows up at the door. Lucas is Catalina's handsome cousin who is traveling while dealing with his own issues. Not wanting to put one another out, Lucas and Rosie decide they can share the apartment. These two strangers become friends and then move on to more -- but Lucas has to return to Spain soon.

I loved this rom-com even more than the first one! Rosie and Lucas are adorable!

For those of you who read The Spanish Love Deception, this is the follow-up novel. While The American Roommate Experiment can be read as a stand alone, Lina and Aaron do make appearances. The book is a slow burn romance, includes forced proximity and love crush elements, and is definately on the spicy side. I was all in with Rosie's crush, Lucas (Lina's cousin). He is definately the dream boyfriend: sensitive while also tough and protective, supportive, and all about keeping the 🔥 in a relationship. I thought Lina's character was portrayed slightly different here, but perhaps it just felt that way since she plays a minor role. All in all this was an enjoyable read. Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for the ARC and opportunity to provide an honest review.

When Rosie finally meets the guy she’s been social media stalking, it’s not when or where she expects it. Through some emergencies and communication errors, Rosie and Lucas end up sharing a studio apartment. When Rosie hits writers block, Lucas volunteers to take her on “experimental dates” to inspire her. This book was very predictable but cute. I did think their relationship was a little too over the top at times.

This had a cute premise, but getting to like the characters was difficult. They had their moments and you could see some of the shine of the writing style, but it was fleeting. It was a cute enough story, and although not realistic it still had some fun moments. For me, I should want to get back to a book, look forward to reading, but when it's just there and blah, that is hard for me to want to recommend. Overall it was a fine book, I liked it enough, but it didn't make me want to read more by the author or re-read it. The cover art was super cute though.

Thanks to NetGalley ARC!

Oh. My. God.
This. THIS BOOK!
is the literal end of me, beloved author Elena Armas. I'll eat anything you feed me. And read anything you write.
TSLD was THE book that got me into reading. and i love you for it.
now, this is the book i'll hyperfixate on for months on end, and hope for the best (hope to not procrastinate while daydreaming about the goodness of all of it)

an engineer-secretly-turned-romance-writer Rosie falls in the lap (not literally) of her longtime anticipation and online crush Lucas Martin, forbidden cousin of her best friend which we know, Lina. They make a pact, they get wrapped up in each other, and a lot more things which I shall not spoil. it was definitely swoonworthy (especially Taco and how everyone participated in getting them together
so cute. and sexy.

How can this book, this writing, this inspiration, be so unconditionally perfect, and so true?
jk, I really wish a Lucas would summon from thin air.
he was so freaking perfect, just like words on paper, which he is.
I finally understood why women fell for guys like him (which are literally none) and I understood how and why Rosie had fallen such head over heels in love with him, as I did.
anyways, I absolutely devoured this and gave my heart to it.
I was grinning like a lunatic, all day, to myself, and it made me understand some things I didn't understand that I didn't know I understood until I knew I didn't understand them.
long story short, the best book ever.
love ya
(p.s. i know i don't look promisingly mature, but i assure you i am, just romance books make me all giddy and weepy)

Thank you, Net Galley, for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion on the book.

This was a follow up to The Spanish Love Deception- which I loved. Elena Armas has become an instant buy author for me!

The follow-up is about Rosie (Lina’s best friend) and Lucas (Lina’s cousin). Rosie finds herself in need of a temporary place at the same time Lucas does, where they move into Lina’s apartment and become roommates.

This love story is full of chemistry, and I enjoyed watching them go from friends to falling in love. The characters are very lovable, and the story line is engaging. If you are looking for a fun, quick rom-com to draw you in, this one is it!

4.5/5 Stars

I read "The Spanish Love Inquisition" (TSLI) before it blew up and while I liked it, I definitely did not have Aaron Blackford fever like everyone else did (for reference, my version of Aaron Blackford was Adam Carlsen). I did though like this book. I actually preferred it to TSLI. I liked Rosie, I liked Lucas, and I liked that there was a hint of Aaron and Lina but it didn't feel overwhelming. I liked that Rosie was lost but not in an "I need saved" kind of way, but in an "I made a choice and I am questioning if I did the right thing" way which I think is relatable. The story within a story trope is often overused but I liked that it served a purpose and didn't feel overwhelming or cheesy. I don't think Lucas is going to become the next Aaron Blackford, but for me that is okay, I like him anyways.

I think this is a cute forced proximity/ roommates romance that pays homage to the world it was created in without feeling overwhelming. If you thought TSLI was okay, I encourage you to try The American Roommate Experiment anyways, because truly I think this story is better.

This book is THEE moment!! I’ve been in a reading slump ever since I finished it. Lucas is everything. The chemistry between Lucas and Rosie is everything.

3.5⭐️

I only read The Spanish Love Deception a few months ago, but my general feeling about Elena Armas is that her books are like 20% too long. I felt like this one took too long to get started, but then I enjoyed the story for the most part from there.

I enjoyed Lucas and Rosie as heroes, but there were some subplots that just didn’t do much for the story and actually came up so little that I’d forget what/who they were even about (I’m looking at you, Rosie’s brother). Regardless, I think fans of TSLD will enjoy this one, too.
