The American Roommate experiment by Elena Armas is the next hit in the Spanish Love Deception series and let me just say it gave everything and more!

Lucas is the one of the sweetest and swooniest hero’s of all time and I honestly want one of him for myself! This man is literally everything I want in a partner: he cooks, he’s sweet and caring, he’s absolutely hilarious, and he’s definitely not to shabby on the eyes 😉

This story takes place right after the Spanish Love deception and follows Rosie and Lucas. After some miscommunication and a cracked ceiling, these two find themselves to be temporary roommates.

The chemistry between these two was just off the charts! They started off as friends and it developed into something more and deeper. You can just tell by the way these two treat each other it was meant to be from the start.

This book has the perfect balance of swoon-worthy moments, a little bit of steam, and overall hilarious moments. If your a fan of the friends to lovers trope then look no further then because this is the book for you!

Special thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for this arc!

This book was a very fun one. The characters were very sweet and I loved them from the beginning. I loved that the characters from The Spanish Love Deception were interspersed throughout, and I think the romance was very well paced. The plot line of a romance author with writer's block was also very interesting to me. I will definitely be recommending this book to customers once it is released in September!

I read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Well... it looks like I'll be buying anything Elena Armas writes at this point! What a delightful second book. It had so much heart and soul, without too much drama. I loved both Rosie and Lucas as characters. They were extremely likeable and their story was believable too.
Armas has this way of writing where you forget you're actually reading, as it's fun and the dialogue is filled with so much chemistry.
It was nice to have Lina and Aaron in it too, every now and again. I was happy Lina's and Rosie's relationship stayed the same.
There's not much else to say... Elena Armas has done it again.

4.5 Stars - Harlequin Junkie Recommended Read!

Author Elena Armas will surely have your heart skipping a beat with this modern, sensual romance that was achingly sweet and absolutely delightful. Be prepared for The American Roommate Experiment to take the fake dating trope to a whole new swoony level.

I know this is Elena Armas's second novel but to me it already feels like she's perfected the art of the slow burn romance. Seriously. Lina and Aaron in The Spanish Love Deception started it all off. (Yes, they made appearances in this book!!) And now Rosie and Lucas have put their own spin on fake dating as well as slowly but surely falling in love over time. I loved that they became close friends right away. And that Lucas--in his kind, protective, caring way--offered to help Rosie break her writer's block by going on "experimental" dates with her. Of course as a reader, I could see where it was headed: straight to complicated and awkwardness. But Rosie and Lucas went into it with the best of intentions so I couldn't fault them for trying to keep it platonic.

As with her debut, Armas created a story that had me so wrapped up in it that I didn't want to see it end. With some characters we've already met--Rosie, Lina, Aaron, Lucas's family in Spain--and some awesome additions (Adele and Olly, to name a couple), it felt like we were immersed in the cast's lives and like they could be our own friends or neighbors. Rosie ended up being as loyal and charming as I knew she'd be after watching her have Lina's back in book one. Although my heart broke for her a couple of times here. But her struggles only proved just how strong Rosie was when she picked herself back up each time.

Then there was Lucas. Talk about the perfect--well, almost perfect--book boyfriend! He was sexy, compassionate, talented, selfless, did I mention sexy?, and unfortunately was a bit of a tortured soul after a fairly recent accident changed his life. It was so interesting to see how Lucas and Rosie took care of each other. Considering they were the ones who usually took charge of family and friends, it was something new for them to have someone take care of them instead. Even though that created a few problems. But I think readers will adore how Rosie and Lucas's romance worked out in their sigh-worthy ending filled with *three* grand gestures.

After reading The Spanish Love Deception last year, I was really looking forward to this one. I enjoyed the update about Lina and Aaron. Though I loved both Rosie and Lucas, I found Lucas to be a more favorable character. Rosie wasnt as dimensional as Lucas. I loved the amount of Spanish throughout the book, it really helped me read Lucas' lines with an accent. I found their love story to be very sweet and thoughtful. I will be recommending this to friends, especially lovers of Lina and Aaron. :)

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I have not read the author’s first book, the Spanish love deception. I own it just haven’t read it. All my fellow reader friends have said that it’s unnecessarily long, which is how I felt about the America roommate experiment.
The book was boring, literally nothing happened at all. I didn’t feel the chemistry between the characters. It was incredibly slow. Not impressed.

This was another fun read by Elena Armas! The numerous tropes, including forced proximity and a grand gesture (actually two!), were adorable considering protagonist Rosie is trying to write a romance novel. The budding friendship between she and Lucas is super cute, and Lina and Aaron from The Spanish Love Deception are part of it too.

I was provided an ARC courtesy of the publisher in exchange for an honest review, thank you!
Boy, did I love this book, so much that I literally read it in a single sitting! Rosie is in need of a place to stay after her apartment ceiling collapses, so she heads to her best friend's apartment (who is on her honeymoon). She is soon surprised by her best friend's cousin, Lucas, who she has been secretly lusting after via social media since she heard about him at her best friend's wedding. Rosie is in need of some serious inspiration after making a major career change, and Lucas is more than willing to provide it to her.
I loved Rosie as a main character and I related a lot to her "I'm the older sister, I have to keep it together and take care of everyone" energy. Lucas was easily one of the most fun and loveable characters I've ever "met" and he immediately sucked me in with his sunshine! At first, I found some of the dialogue a little cheesy, but once the characters ... embraced the cheese (?), I started literally laughing out loud at some points! The pacing was perfect, and I loved getting to revisit some characters from The Spanish Love Deception (if you know, you know). I found myself SO invested in this story that I got anxious toward the end (hence why I couldn't put it down!) and I had to see what happened. I'm normally an enemies-to-lovers type girl, but this was friends-to-lovers done PERFECTLY! This book got me out of my reading slump and solidified Elena Armas as one of my "will buy anything they write" authors!

The Spanish Love Deception was the TikTok phenomenon of 2021 and like everybody else I really enjoyed it. Like always I found myself desperately wanting a book for the main characters best friend and finally we got it! The American Roommate Experience is Rosie’s and Lucas’ chance at love. My expectations were super high and they were met. Unlike the Spanish Love Deception , this book is a dual POV and I think I really think that made a huge difference in the quality of the story. Elena Armas has grown so much as a writer and you can really tell in the second book. Readers of the first book will enjoy this book just as much. I recommend it to everybody. It was delightful!

After the Spanish Love Deception, I had high hopes for this second title and it met my expectations! I wasn’t sure at first but I fell so in love with the characters and rooted for them all the way through!

Last year, readers fell in love with Armas' debut THE SPANISH LOVE DECEPTION, and are now back to see the fate of Lina's best friend and her cousin. Rosie and Lucas' love story in THE AMERICAN ROOMMATE EXPERIMENT was absolute perfection. Full of the same humor and wacky moments that were found in TSLD, readers can expect to be drawn in once again. These two were brought together with some amazing tropes, one of which included forced proximity which always adds to the drama. I think people will love returning to this cast of characters as they will also see what Aaron and Lina are up to following the events of their book. I cannot recommend this enough!

I loved this so much I finished it in a day! It follows characters Rosie and Lucas, who we read about in Spanish Love Deception. Forced proximity, slow burn romance and grand gestures. This book has it all! Elena Armas is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.

This is a most anticipated read for me just because I had high expectations for this sequel. The fact that I ate this book up? Amazing!! The romance was so enthralling and the characters had me laughing out loud at every page. Elena Armas has become a new favorite and has a fantastic knack for writing such relatable and realistic characters that you can't help, but fall in love with them!

This book is a continuous of some sort to the Spanish Love Deception which I loved. While this book is similar in the sense that the characters are both lovable and the banter is great I am so over the fake dating trope. It’s overdone and very predictable. I know every book I read will most likely have a happy ending but I just can’t do the fake dating anymore. Other than the trope that I’m not obsessed with, this book was much more edited than the SLD and that’s a plus. Still a great book, that’s super enjoyable that I will be recommending to others.

I was an immediate fan of Elena Armas after I read The Spanish Love Deception, but having not read any of her other works, I wasn't sure how this one would compare. I'm now thrilled to say that TSLD was no fluke because The American Roommate Experiment was just as wonderful!

First of all, Lucas is a dreamboat in every possible way. He's thoughtful from the first interaction, hilarious, and heartwrenchingly vulnerable at times. You can tell he truly cares for Rosie from the very start of their interactions, and even though it took a bit longer for him to realize he loved her the whole time, it was a beautiful journey watching him learn that he was capable of love and committment.

Rosie was one of my favorite characters in TSLD, and I was over the moon when I realized this book was going to focus on her. She is so witty, determined, independent, and like Lucas, vulnerable when it comes to the people she loves most.

When they start their experiment, they know the risks involved but are determined to eventually part ways with no hard feelings. That gets to be impossible when Rosie realizes that she's in love with him but Lucas is too hard on himself to let himself be loved or believe he's even worthy of love from someone as incredible as Rosie.

This story is emotional, sexy, funny, and everything else you look for in a romance book you just can't put down. I cannot wait to see what Elena Armas writes next!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for my honest opinions.

Oh I loved it, the same way I loved Armas's debut as well. Sweet main characters and well written banter, plus spicy scenes. An awesome and easy read!

The American Roommate Experiment is Elena Armas’s follow-up novel after The Spanish Love Deception, featuring Lina’s best friend, Rosie, and her cousin, Lucas. If you like forced proximity and fake dating, this book’s got both! Based on what I know about the author, she drew some inspiration from her life, as Rosie is an indie-turned-mainstream author. There were a few things in the story I wished they had leaned into a little more or fleshed out further, like the “cronut you” phrase and the sweet lady across the hall. Overall, the book is sweet, fun, and a little spicy, and I enjoyed reading it!

Rosie and Lucas were such lovable characters! I had to cheer for them! Rosie embarks on being romance novelist after taking a left turn out of the corporate world, but she’s lacking inspiration. What a fun romance for a romance novelist!

This book was as wonderful as I expected it to be! I am a huge fan of The Spanish Love Deception, and so I had high hopes for round two. It definitely didn’t disappoint. Five stars for sure!!

LOVED The American Rooommate Experiment! This was such a gorgeous slow burn with Rosie and Lucas (who were such great characters that you are in full support of throughout the entire book). Such a beautiful love story, and I highly recommend it to any romance readers!
