Oh man…this book really pulled with my heart strings. Elena did an AMAZING job writing this book. It was so refreshing reading a plot that I have never read about before. I love how she included Lina and Aaron in this story, but in a way that it didn’t take away the fact that is was not their story, it was Rosie’s and Lucas’s. I giggled, smiled, laughed and cried all throughout this book. I will definitely be recommending this book at work once it comes out. Not going to lie, this book might become more popular than the Spanish Love Deception, but it deserves nothing less!

I really, really liked this book!!! Elena Armas writing improves each book, and I love this one even more than the first. She’s really mastered the art of the slow burn. Rosie and Lucas were both so lovable that it was impossible not to cheer for them. Rosie left the corporate world to be a romance novelist but there’s only one problem..she’s lacking inspiration after her first novel was a hit. Enter Lucas Martin, Catalina’s dreamy Spanish cousin who missed her wedding and thus a meet cute with Rosie. Lucas has a little pain and heartache to recover from, and Rosie is learning to be honest with herself and others (and sporting a massive long-term crush on Lucas from afar). Together they slow burn their way to a gorgeous love story that I can’t wait to read again.
Thank you for the Netgalley ARC!

My experience with Armas is only with The Spanish Love Deception (before it was picked up by a publisher) and I enjoyed it.
I was pretty excited for this and mildly disappointed. Even when I was 60% of the way through the book, I still felt like I was waiting for something to happen and to feel a spark of excitement for Rosie and Lucas.
It erred on the side of Insta-love in a way that wasn’t satisfactory. There didn’t feel like a buildup of tension and the sex scenes were uninspired. I was more excited about what book Rosie was writing than I was about this which makes me sad.
Even the ending felt forced and rushed. I think if some stuff in the middle was condensed and the third act breakup was more fleshed out this would have been much more up my alley.
That said, I still flew through the book and it was entertaining. Armas’s literary voice has so much potential and I’m excited to continue reading whatever she writes next.

I couldn't put this book down it was so good, I loved reading about Lucas and Rosie and how adorable they are together and how sweet he is to her and protective and just went all out on their experiment dates it was definitely worth the read

This book had big shoes to fill in my opinion after The Spanish Love Deception because I ADORED that book. I think that The American Roommate Experiment lived up to my expectations!

This story picks up right after The Spanish Love Deception ends. Lina and Aaron are on their honeymoon and an unfortunate disaster at Rosie’s apartment leaves her no choice but to crash at Lina’s empty apartment.
Right away Rosie and Lucas have the best meet cute. Lucas is in the states trying to figure out where his new life path is taking him, and Rosie is having trouble writing her next book. They decide to have a “dating experiment” to help Rosie get over her writer’s block.

You’ll enjoy this book if you like:
-forced proximity
-only one bed trope
-friends to lovers
-secret crush
-steamy scenes
I loved the chemistry between Rosie and Lucas and I especially adored that Lucas’ love language was cooking for Rosie. 🥰

Thank you Netgalley and Atria for an ARC of this book!

This is a perfect follow-up for all those who were enchanted by the Spanish Love Deception -- as well as anyone who loves a good -- extended -- only one bed style trope. Lucas and Rosie have chemistry and the best banter from their very first "meet cute", while Armas' writing of Lucas beautifully showcases nontoxic masculinity in romance. The conflict develops naturally without leaving the reader in a state of angst for too long. This is really a fantastic read for any lover of the "happily ever after". I look forward to reading many more stories from Armas in the future!

Rosie Graham left a fantastic, well-paying job to begin a career as a writer. And while this change was supposed to bring her joy, she finds herself riddled with self-doubt, writer's block, and a massive hole in her living room ceiling. The hole in her ceiling leads her to stay in her best friend's flat, where the presence of an unexpected guest (who happens to be her secret crush) changes everything. When her crush (and temporary roommate) proposes a series of experiments to jump-start her creativity, unexpected things happen, and two lonely people immerse themselves in novel-worthy moments. Once again, Elena Armas has left readers with a timeless, laugh-out-loud story sure to sweep readers up in the joy of it all.

I love Elena Armas's writing style, although I didn't love this one quite as much as The Spanish Deception, I really enjoyed how different it felt without losing the playful tone Armas is so good at. It was extremely swoony and romantic!

This book fulfilled all of my demands for a romance book as well as a novel overall. After The Spanish Love Deception, Elena Armas had a high standard to meet, and she more than met expectations. While Lina was gone with Aaron on their honeymoon, Rosie, her closest friend Lucas, Lina's cousin, ended up at her apartment by accident at the beginning of the novel. Due to Rosie unknowingly stalking him on social media, they continue to become closer and closer. In order to provide Rosie with ideas for her next romance novel, they then decide to conduct a false dating experiment. This quickly progresses to true dating, complete with feelings. And everything is included in this book: big romantic gestures, confessions, and attempts to obstruct someone from departing at the airport. The opportunity to gain some insight into Lina and Aaron's marriage was one of the most enjoyable aspects of this. They were there for the majority of the second half of the novel, and it was wonderful to meet them, learn about their lives, and see them from the perspective of other characters. Overall, this book was a charming and heartwarming romance that I would pick up again!

Very cute! I loved the forced roommate set up. A bit too much miscommunication though, it past the point of moving the plot along and just made it frustrating how bad they were at voicing their feelings.

I loved "The Spanish Love Deception" and think Elena Armas writes such fun "beach reads after dark". I was thrilled that "the American Roommate Experiment" was just as fun and fresh!

The American Roomate Experiment, Elena Armas

Thank you NetGalley and Atria for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The previous novel by Armas, The Spanish Love Deception, wooed me with its descriptions of the landscape, food and people of Spain. Armas managed to maintain the magic of that book, though she moved the setting of the sequel to NYC.
Rosie, best friend to Lina from The Spanish Love Deception, is a romance novelist trying to write a sequel to her previous book starring the best friend of the heroine from her previous book -- got that? When Rosie's apartment needs major repairs, she escapes to Lina's apartment, as Lina is on her honeymoon, but soon is met by Lina's cousin from Spain, Lucas. As Rosie struggles to write her book, she and Lucas embark on an experiment where they'll fake date to give Rosie the inspiration she needs to write her book. You get where this is going... A great, fun summer romance!

This one was SO very cute. There were sweet moments and I really enjoyed the two leads. I did feel this book could have been a little shorter, and at times the characters were a bit frustrating when they were still figuring out how the other felt about them. Still, I think this was a fun, cute read.

I read The American Roommate Experiment by Elena Armas before reading The Spanish Love Deception, which I had not heard of. But, now that I have read The American Roommate Experience, I have already ordered The Spanish Love Deception! I really enjoyed this story about Rosie and Lucas. It's a quick page-turner, perfect for a lazy beach day or wrapped up on a cozy couch. Lucas is incredibly sweet, romantic and vulnerable; making him the ideal male lead in a romance. I appreciated the multicultural characters and how the Spanish culture made the story deeper and richer.
I truly look forward to reading more by Elena Armas!
I received this ARC in Kindle format from NetGalley and the publishers to read and review. All statements above are my own true opinion after reading the book.

Works as a stand alone and the references to Lina and Aaron are sweet. A good follow up to Elena Armas’s debut. It’s more of the same, but much more refined.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria for the ARC.

The American Roommate Experiment is a fun rom-com that, although somewhat predictable, still managed to suck me in and keep me reading. The characters are multi-dimensional and believable, and the main relationship is fun to follow as it develops. Definitely recommend for fans of the author or the modern rom-com genre!

This book was everything I wanted, needed, and craved in a romance novel, and even in a novel in general. Elena Armas had a lot to live up to after Spanish Love Deception, and she delivered that and so much more. We started off the book with Rosie, Lina's best friend, and Lucas, Lina's cousin, who both accidentally ended up at Lina's apartment at the same time while she was away with Aaron on her honeymoon. They proceed to get closer and closer, helped by the fact that Rosie had accidentally stalked him on social media (relatable, rosie). From there, they decide to do a fake dating experiment, to give Rosie inspiration for her next romance novel, which quickly turns to real dating, feelings and all. And this book is complete with everything. The grand gestures, the admissions, trying to stop the person from leaving at the airport. The ONLY complaint I have is that during the sex scene, there were about 6 different variations of "The blood rushed to my dick". Honestly, though, that didn't deter me from wanting to read more about Lucas and Rosie. One of the best parts of this was getting to see a little into Lina and Aaron's married life. They were present for most of the second part of the book, and it was really enjoyable to get to see them, experience their life, and see it from another characters point of view. All in all, another INCREDIBLE. book from Elena Armas, and I will be very quickly buying and consuming everything that she writes in the future. Hell, I might even read this again. and again. and again.

I had major issues with the style, plot, and pacing of The Spanish Love Deception. 1/3 of those things has been resolved with a professional editor, which I think is really all I can ask. You'll like this as much as you liked Armas's first book, no more and no less, because it's just not that different...?

A great follow up to The Spanish Love Deception!
Rosie is stuck—physically and literally. Her apartment has caved in and she is dealing with a massive case of writer’s block. After taking refuge in BFF Lina’s apartment, she is shocked to find someone trying to break in…with a key?
Enter Lucas, Lina’s adventurous, Instagram-stalking worthy cousin who happens to be the object of Rosie’s online obsession and the answer to her problems.
Rosie and Lucas strike a deal—he helps her spark some romance for her upcoming book and she shares Lina’s studio with him until her apartment is done.
Readers will get a kick out of some cameo appearances from the previous novel and enjoy the ride as Rosie goes on an inspirational “fake” dating adventure!
Thank you to NetGalley for the digital ARC.

Elena Armas does it again! This is an amazing follow up to SLD! Rosie and Lucas are engaging and passionate. Their friendship felt real and the love story followed the perfect pace.
I liked the subplots of the new job and surfing accident. The brother drama was unnecessary but I understand needing another conflict.
I would recommend this book and look forward to the next titles by Armas!
