I'm really not sure what happened here but I so wasn't into this book. Didn't care for either main character but to be fair it didn't seem like we got to know them at all. It took forever to get the plot moving but the story still wasn't an interesting one. However, spice level was off the charts.

I started out skeptical. Recently I've read so many books labeled as "romance," but they are mostly tawdry, erotica novels. There's nothing wrong with that; however, that's not I wanted or expected out of the romance genre. After reading "The American Ròomate Experiment," my faith in the romance genre has been restored. Armas doesn't swap plot for intimate scenes in the novel, instead the few intimate scenes are used as a tool for furthering the plot. "The American Roomate Experiment" uses the romance tropes so well, and I couldn't be more happy with choosing this is my next read. The plot has a nice, swooping arc structure that highlights the high points with contrasting lows. The characters are some of the most likeable I have encountered in this year. Both Rosie and Lucas have an undeniable charm. They both have flaws that are relatable and realistic. I also love the Spanish speaking representation throughout the novel; it was nicely freckled within Lucas and his family. The slight mystery behind Lucas' injury and what is going on with Olly kept the story fresh and alive. I also really love the addition of Adele and her daughter. They weren't just forced in to give the novel a way to wrap up the end. Instead, thier characters seemed genuine, like Adele could have really been living in a small, New York apartment next door to Lina. I know some people will probably label the novel as cliche or pedestrian, but that is not the case. The hallmarks of the romance genre are there to keep the novel light and the pace fast. Armas also wants to make sure she's left room for all of the romantic people to swoon. This is an excellent, sweet novel for any one who likes a real love story. At no point does any of the novel seem forced. If you want to feel like the romance genre is alive, do not ignore "The American Roomate Experiment."

POV: You are lusting after your friend's hot cousin over his Instagram, but then he shows up in person. Awkward. Especially because you used your spare key to crash at your friend's place that she has conveniently promised to him.
You can't go home and neither can he.
So you try it... and it works.
End of story.

After loving TSLD so much, this was one of my most highly anticipated reads of 2022 and it did not disappoint. Lucas Martian is just as good as Aaron Blackford and that was so unexpected, but I now have two equally perfect book boyfriends. This book at multiple POV and the best sunshine (and most romantic) heroine. I will read this book 20 more times before I am satisfied because I love it so much.
Thank you #netgalley for an early read of #theamericanroommateexperiment

I adored The Spanish Love Deception, and Elena Armas immediately became my auto-buy author. While Aaron and Lina make a small cameo in The American Roommate Experiment, Lucas and Rosie are the stars of this book -- and I was not mad about it at all!. Lucas is one of those cinnamon roll characters that you instantly fall in love with and Rosie is funny, quirky, and sweet.
This book is perfect for readers who enjoy the forced proximity and fake dating tropes. Oh, and the slow burn is equally sweet and painful.

I am head over heels in love. Elena Armas is an absolute star. In the first chapter I was hooked. Rosie and Lucas had me blushing. The banter was electric and the spice was perfect. While I loved the Spanish Love Deception , this one takes the cake. I can't wait to see what's next.

I loved jumping back in to Elena Armas stories. Lucas was a swoon worthy protagonist and I loved the slow burn of their relationship.

My queen has done it again writing another AMAZING book. Obsessed would be an understatement when it comes to this book. This is definitely one of my favorite reads of the year. I loved everything about Lucas and Rosie’s dynamic and I quite literally screamed when Aaron and Lina made an appearance.
Not only is the cover absolutely adorable but Lucas is one of the best cinnamon roll men I have ever read about. He was so sweet and I loved everything about him and Rosie.
I related a lot to Rosie, not only do we almost have the same name but she loves the song ‘Dancing Queen’ which is my jam and she gets all jumbled trying to talk to cute guys (aka Lucas) which is also me lol. They both deserve the absolute world.
This book contains:
-the friends to lovers trope
-dual pov
-slow burn
-forced proximity
-sunshine x sunshine
Go read this book now and I hope you love it as much as I did. 🫶🏻
“My roommate. My Dancing Queen. My experiment life partner. My heart. Will you be mine, just like I’m completely, hopelessly yours?” 💖💙

Thank you to Netgalley for this e ARC!
I read The Spanish Love Deception by the same author so I already had high standards for this book. And did this book meet my expectations! I am in love with Lucas, and I would like one for myself. The way he just gives with his whole heart makes me wish I knew him in person. You could tell from the beginning that he is head over heels for Rosie. I wish I could read this book for the first time again. I can't wait for Elenas next book release!

Overall: cute and breezy and sweet!
- can definitely be read as a standalone. I haven’t read Spanish Love Deception and I was never lost or anything since overlapping characters were introduced well
- I think this book was way longer than it needed to be. Everything moved at a snails pace. Rosie and Lucas’s first meeting took like 40 minutes on the audiobook
- I hate when lies are used as a plot device. There was no reason for Rosie to not tell her dad about switching jobs. This alone honestly downgraded the book a lotttttt to me:(

Ahhhhhh! This was a sweet read. Ok, so here’s what I LOVED.
Forced proximity. This trope is just *perfect*. And the fact that she already has a huge crush on him just ups the ante. I love that her circumstances and their “meet cute” are just hilarious to make it so they have to both live in this apartment— and when they are forced back apart they hate it. THE YEARNING, it’s so good.
Dual POV. I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL EVERY TIME. It’s giving us both points of view so we see the longing from BOTH Lucas and Rosie. We see the anxiety and the misunderstanding and we are FRUSTRATED AND SCREAMING AND I LOVE IT.
THE COMFORT. Aahhhhhhhh. I love me some mutual comfort when it’s built on careful trust in this forced proximity trope. Because they have to depend on each other, and they have needs, and Rosie sees him in a way no one else notices. It’s so beautiful. 🥹
Also— I didn’t read Instructions for Dancing… so it wasn’t necessary for my understanding. I wasn’t missing any info to still love this book. But trust me, it’s on my tbr now. 😭😂

⭐️⭐️⭐️
The American Roommate Experiment is both an intimate and a charming release by Elena Armas. After reading the blurb/synopsis and her other book reviews: I was disappointed in this read. Good book of you want an easy read with little drama, non page turner, romance with a little hotness to boot. I rolled my eyes more than once and skipped over few paragraphs. This review sounds more negative than I intend but it just didn’t hold my attention.
Thank you NetGalley and Atria Books for ARC in exchange for honest review

Elena Armas has done it again. This book was everything I could of hoped for. I was so wrapped up in the characters. I laughed, cried, and had so much anxiety while reading it was unbelievable. I loved Lucas he was every thing the way he treated Rosie was amazing. The chemistry between these to characters was perfect. I am a sucker for fake relationships, forced proximity, comedy, banter, and a bit of smut. Armas was able to give all of it to me in ' the perfect package. I Can’t wait to see what she comes up with next.

I loved SO much about this book! I think I loved it even more than The Spanish Love Deception! Lucas and Rosie are goals, and I just loved how much Lucas took care of Rosie and encouraged her to follow her dreams. We all need a Lucas by our sides!

Another win from the Booksta darling responsible for the best-selling Spanish love deception!!
In this spicy, slow burn, dual POV, forced proximity friends to lovers romance we get to know Lina's best friend Rosie and cousin Lucas as they both end up sharing her apartment while she honeymoons with Aaron.
The book starts with one of the best meet-cutes ever! Lucas showing up unexpected at Lina's apartment and practically scaring the wits out of Rosie who was NOT expecting her long-time secret crush to turn up out of the blue.
I adored these two together as they agree to be friends who date for fun (aka the "Experiment"). Rosie is looking for inspiration for her newest romance book and Lucas is just the biggest cinnamon roll hero wanting to help her.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts but this one is a SLOOOOOOOW burn (the MCs don't actually hook up until about 85% in). Great on audio narrated by Jennifer Jill Araya and Noah B. Perez (who can do a Spanish accent to perfection!).
My favorite part of this story though was how both Rosie and Lucas are dealing with career changes. Rosie quit her engineering job to be a full-time romance writer and Lucas's career as a professional surfer came to an unexpected end after an accident, leaving him feeling lost and unsure what to do next in life.
Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review and highly recommended for fans of books like Mixed Signals by BK Borison or Hook, line and sinker by Tessa Bailey.

This was a strong sequel to The Spanish Love Deception. I was a little worried my expectations were too high for the sequel but I enjoyed this book every bit as much as I did the first one! I can't wait for it to be released and for other people to be able enjoy it too!

The sequel we've all been waiting for! As an educator, I loved reading about this Intercultural relationship and seeing how Rosie and Lucas take care of each other and learn to love each other. Will be recommending this to anyone who loves romance.

I love American Roommate! Elena has such talent. I really enjoyed SLD and had hoped that these characters would be as dreamy as Aaron Blackford. Lucas and Rosie's relationship was so sweet. I could imagine myself living in an apartment where the roof collapsed. I really enjoyed this book

The minute I saw this cover I knew I had to read this book and was so excited to receive an advanced copy! This story takes place after the epilogue of “The Spanish Love Deception” and follows the story of Rosie and Lucas. From beginning to end these characters are likeable and their story will definitely pull at your heart strings. This book is more emotional than “The Spanish Love Deception” and overall a great story that was worth the wait! Fans of Elena Armas will not be disappointed! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Usually I try to find a few things to (constructively) criticize in a book but for this book.... no notes. It was so good. I think even better than The Spanish Love Deception. Elena Armas has a way with completely capturing the emotions and idiosyncracies of characters. I love that she tells the complete arc of a character's story. Rosie was one of my favorites in The Spanish Love Deception and Lucas Martin may even overshadow Aaron Blackford.
