This book has all the elements to suck me in. Multiple POVs made it even better. LOVED LOVED LOVED.

3/5 stars! I wanted to love this (everything conceptually felt right up my alley) but ultimately found my enjoyment to be so-so. Of course not everyone is likely to make it off the Titanic safely (spoilers?)... but did it have to be my favorite characters we lost? Ouch. I'm also an August apologist.

A Million to One

3.0⭐️
This is a historical fiction/heist story that takes place during the famous Titanic disaster. It attempts to combine a rare item heist, with rival thieves and bit of LGBTQ+ romance. I was paying more attention to the heist element and when the romance was brought in, I lost a bit of interest. The ending seemed a bit rushed, although I think that was intended to heighten the tension and drama of the sinking. All things considered, the story had a good premise, but it fell a little flat for me personally.

This book had so much promise but I just didn't feel like it stuck the landing. The ending was a bit of a let down. The story was fun until the Titanic starts to sink. The suspense was really well done as the Titanic sinks but I just feel like the emotional part of the story was a little bit of let down with Hinnah and Violet dying the way they did. It just didn't feel like it was final.

My app updated and I lost all my audiobooks. I was unable to download it again so I missed out on listening to this book.

I really enjoyed A Million to One, but I’m giving it four stars for a couple of reasons. The biggest one is that I ended up DNFing it; I got pretty invested in the characters but unfortunately the audiobook’s computer narration (not ann actual narrator!) made it really hard for me to keep listening. That’s not fault of the author, so I can’t really dock stars for it, but all that is to say that I’ll DEFINITELY be downloading the audiobook with the human narrator because I really do want to know what happens!

The second reason this wasn’t a five-star read for me was just the pace. For such a scintillating plot, it did slog along a little bit. If the prose had been just a little more concise, I would have continued to be as drawn in as I was when I started.

That being said, this is a GREAT femme-centered heist story with the perfect balance of romance, drama, mystery, and a historical backdrop so many of us are familiar with. Definitely recommend!

This book was so much fun. I loved the heist, characters and the narrator want too bad either!! Anything with the titanic I’m down for.

I definitely would have been totally into this book when I was a teenager. The action, intrigue, and girl power would have had me hooked. Unfortunately, I did end up DNFing this book, even though I did like the narrator for this. It was a bit slow paced for me, and I found myself zoning out at times. I may try coming back to this eventually because I think I may love it, but for now, I had to shelve it.

There was nothing about this book I liked. The ending felt predictable given the setting. None of the characters felt particularly deep. Too many plots felt smooshed together to be cohesive. I'm not even sure who the antagonist was supposed to be. The Titanic itself?

Overall, I don't recommend it.

This isn't anything at all what I was expecting! But I really liked the heist aspect and the Titanic aspect. Did I wish she had explored the Titanic, yes, but I understand these are the things they might have seen. I do wish there was more world building tho.

The description said this was like Titanic meets Oceans movies and I agree entirely!
This was such a fun book and honestly, I found the diversity of the characters to be one of my favorite parts because each one could get to different parts of the ship because of what they looked like which added to the suspense of the hunt.
If you are looking for a fun heist-type book this is one to check out soon.

A Million to One by Adiba Jaigirdar is a queer ya historical fiction blurbed as a Titanic with a Ocean’s 8 makeover. Josefa has her eyes on a particular item that will be traveling on the RMS Titanic, a one of a kind book encrusted with gems, worth millions. She can’t accomplish this alone though and enlists the help of 3 other skilled girls with unique talents.

This book was a fun heist story that had a bit of a nail biting edge to it because as a reader, I’m aware of what happened to the Titanic and I wondered how that was going to affect our team of skilled women. This was a great book, my second by the author and definitely not my last.

Four girls board on the Titanic for a heist and shenanigans ensue.

I was expecting a lot from this. Maybe, a bit too much? It was a good story with good characters but I had trouble truly distinguishing one character from the other. I really liked the whole heist/criminal thing but it felt like it wasn’t the main story. It was a bit messy to me, I guess? That could be blamed on me listening to this book and not reading it with my eyes though… But while this was good, I really felt like something was missing. And maybe my expectations were just too high or maybe I need a reread. The ending took me by surprise and I was pretty captivated while reading. I was feeling the twists and turns and was pretty stressed throughout. And yet, it wasn’t the extraordinary book I thought it would be. I still definitely recommend this and invite you to tell me if it was a me problem or what.

There's something so refreshing about taking historical events and revamping them with queer characters. Take the Titanic, a group of uniquely interesting women, a heist and make it sapphic, and I'm here for a good time. This book pulled at my old titanic obsession in a totally new way and I felt it right in my chest! Fantastic read!

This book was super fun! Every character had stakes and was loveable; I wanted them all to succeed! But with the looming tragedy of the Titanic's sinking, readers are left worrying the whole time over the ending, at least I was.
Four girls are united against the odds to steal a book that is on the Titanic on course to be bought in America. Their mission: simple steal is and sell off its jewels before getting caught. What the readers know? Tragedy awaits: the Titanic will sink before reaching American shores. Throw in a romantic wishes between two of the girls and readers are left in shambles on the edge of their seat, begging themself to read faster and hoping that everything might just turn out okay, despite the odds. Every odd is stacked against these girls. Can their ambitions earn them success and safety?
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the audiobook's narration. I did think the ending was going to be more tragic than it was. What does that say about me? To be determined.

While I know this was not a live person audiobook, I still felt that hurt the story. The overall story was great and I have a few kids who are asking me to purchase it at the library already.

As a fan of Titanic and heist movies like Ocean's 8, 11, 12, and 13, Adiba Jaigirdar's A MILLION TO ONE was a delight. A very unique setting and spin on classic heist narratives. All of the girls were unique and interesting -- I hope this becomes a companion series!

I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This story is a mix of Oceans Eleven and The Titanic. Four young women plan to pull off a heist on the Titanic as it sails to New York. Each girl has a hidden past and secrets that influence their approach to the theft. Josefa sets everything up and recruits the girls. They must trust that she is telling the truth.
I was drawn into the story, especially by the use of different points of view. Because, as a reader, I knew that the Titanic would sink, I had an extra element of stress while reading about everything that was happening. It added an extra element of difficulty to their job.
I would suggest this to anyone interested in historical fiction or capers.

This was a fun and unique story. I love books about the Titanic or set around the Titanic so I knew I was going to love this book and I was right. This book was unique and I really liked the characters. It was fun but also heartbreaking as all Titanic books should be. I loved that it was queer as well. Definitely a solid YA book.

Thanks to Harper Audio and Netgalley for an ALC of this book.

All female heist on the Titanic written by one of my favorite authors? And some of the characters are sapphic? Sign me up!

I also feel like there was a bit of a QPR in this with some of the characters but it wasn't named that. But definitely heavy with the Found Family trope in this one which I absolutely love! I really love the cover of this! It is so so pretty.

OMG the ending to this is sooooo sad. Anyway...I loved it.

CW: death, drowning, homophobia, racism
