I really loved the setup of this one—two complete strangers buying a house together. But I struggled a lot with these characters, particularly the heroine.
Lucy is a workaholic to a ridiculous level, completely damaging friendships and her sanity. Willing to risk ruining a friend's wedding to take a work call, she was quite unlikable almost immediately.
When her childhood home becomes available to purchase, her lack of steady income hinders her mortgage application. Zack, another potential buyer, to the rescue! With his relaxed outlook on life, Lucy immediately despises him. And honestly, her reasonings felt completely unjustified and irrational.
Being opposites, there's a lot of conflicts as housemates, which at times became silly. I did love seeing Lucy learn to live more in the moment, but I never truly felt any lingering romantic tension between her and Zack. There was a lot of strange miscommunication between them. I wish I enjoyed this more.
Lucy is a struggling interior designer who is trying to establish her own business. She makes a few wrong decisions and loses most of her main clients.
Then her childhood home goes up for sale. Lucy has the deposit, she just doesn’t have the guaranteed monthly mortgage payments.
Que Zach, Zach also wants to buy the house. He has the guaranteed income but no deposit. So they form a plan to buy the house and live together. Only problem is they are complete strangers and the couple of meetings they have had they really didn’t get along.
What could possibly go wrong???
This book just didn’t do it for me. First off who would ever buy a house with someone they didn’t know 🤷🏼♀️ it spells disaster from the start.
Both Lucy and Zach had an array of issues. Neither were likeable and there was just no spark between them. Even the arguing banter didn’t have any substance.
When the inevitable did fiiiiiiinally happen there was no spice, no chemistry. You’d swear they were flat mates rather than lovers.
Overall the book was an easy read but not hugely enjoyable.
Giving this 2,5/5 stars.
This book was an okay read. Not gonna lie, it took me a long time to get into, but i did enjoy it in the end, In the beginning I couldn't relate to Lucy – or even like her! I didn't understand her decisions, nor did I understand her obsession with work.
Personally i LOVE when a story's romance is moving faster, or at least begins the romance earlier than 3/4 into the book. The book is not spicy (just a comment. I didn't expect such) and the relationships were a bit messy.
I find a couple of loose ends that I don't think is answered, but in the end, I did enjoy the read, but I don't know if I'll read it again any time soon.
And not going to lie, I went with zero expectations and I was so pleasantly surprised! I read this is one sitting - the writing is super easy to get into and makes you want to keep reading on and on!
I was only a bit disappointed the book didn't have dual POV - I'd love to see what Zack was thinking and why he acted the way he did in some scenes (is there a possible Stuck With Him 1.5 from his POV? ;)). But then again, to keep the mystery for the reader, I also understand why we didn't get it and it made sense for the way it was written.
All in all, I super recommend for everyone looking for a fun and easy read!
The story dragged on, nothing much happening… or, really, the first 36/37 chapters were setting everything up and then everything crashed down in the next three or four chapters and it was only the last two or three where everything was wrapped neatly in a bow. Essentially, within a week everything was fine again. With everyone and everything.
All this build up and it seemed rushed at the end. Whenever Zack went off to talk to the “girlfriend” I thought it’s not a girlfriend, his family own that company she’s working for but he wants to step back… I was half right.
Not to mention her Thursday appointments I got right away. Why did it need to only be shown in chapter 40? Think that was a little too late to tell us.
All in all, lovely story. One I haven’t heard before – buying a house with a stranger. Good ideas, even if some are predictable (but that’s what you love about these books, right? Sometimes the same thing is used but you don’t mind). But I wouldn’t say if you loved The Hating Game and The Spanish Love Deception you’d love this one.
If you enjoy your romance books without the spice, this is for you. Just be prepared to the Lucy, get annoyed at Zack, and be a little shocked how quick their relationship comes from pretty much nowhere.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.
I immediately thought I’d love this book, but I unfortunately couldn’t really find myself in the story.
This book follows Lucy Clark who buys a house with her enemy. They immediately dislike each-other but this is her only way to buy her beloved grandmother's house.
I really do enjoy reading Danielle's books, I enjoy her writing style and find it really easy to get into the book.
Zack was a nice character but at some points in the book, I was a little cringed out at him. I think I seriously had a love hate relationship with Lucy, sometimes I absolutely despised her but sometimes I had a little soft spot for her.
I loved the storyline and the concept as I feel it was a rare one, forced close proximity is one of my favourite tropes but it's hard to find a way it has not been done but I think Danielle really hit the nail on the head with this one.
I think I definitely enjoyed this book but not as much as Danielle's debut, Stone Broke Heiress.
I rated this book 3.5 stars!
Thank you to Netgalley and Danielle Owen-Jones for this ARC.
When I first read the description of this book, I thought "I'm going to really enjoy this" and sadly I just couldn't connect with it. It's taken me a few weeks to finish this book and while I'm sure alot of people will enjoy it, unfortunately for me, it didn't.
A quick, easy and hilarious read that i couldn't put down. It was compeletely gripping right from the start.
I loved this book! Was really light hearted and cheered me up when needed.
If you don’t take your books too seriously, then this is the novel for you!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for sending me an ARC of this book.
I really liked the idea of the book and the two main characters living together in a non-ideal environment. I just found that the first 85% of the book was pretty boring and I had a hard time getting through it. Although I did really enjoy Lucy and Zack’s little banter! The end also had a twist that helped make the last part more interesting! I honestly just wished the book was a bit more sped up!
I received an ARC for Stuck With Him by Danielle Owen-Jones from NetGalley and Bookouture in exchange for my honest opinion.
I love to laugh in a book. Stuck With Him is funny with situational humor and because of the characters. I would call this an opposites attract love story. One is type A, stressed, a workaholic. The other is easy, breezy. It's something like watching a rock in a river trying to stop the flow of water.
The characters were charming, each in their own way. I really wasn't sure how Lucy and Zack would get along let alone stay in the same house.
Learning to respect each other is another theme in the book—it's okay to be different and meet in the middle. Listening to your inner self and meeting your needs is also an important theme. All the success in the world doesn't mean much if you don't have the right people in your life.
This was a fully satisfying read. There are closed door scenes keeping the spice level at a low level. I wasn't sure how that was going to play out from a discovery made early on. (Now you won't have to wonder how spicy things get.)
I recommend this book for everyone who loves love, struggles with balancing work and life, and even for the yoga crowd. Sometimes, called hippy-dippy. Come read the book and find out what Lucy is hiding.
Thanks netgalley for the arc.
Sadly I didn’t love this books. In the first 50 percent was boring and nothing happened, i just read about lucy’s workaholic life, and pessimism thoughts. She judged Zack’s character based on nothing, she was just wrapped platoons her own head. I personally hated Lucy’s friends. Or just that one who couldn’t stop mentioning her wedding.
Zack’s character was fine, but I didn’t see much about him, because Lucy’s rude thoughts always pushed him behind.
There was no enemies to lovers, I really missed that feeling.
I jus thinly can complain about Lucy’s character. With her the whole book was a let down for me, but it could’ve been so much better.
Thankyou to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me an early copy of this book. Unfortunately this book bored me, Until about 86% of the way through i would have rated this 2 stars but the little twist towards the end bumped it up. It just felt like nothing happened and the way it was written just fell a little flat for me.
Loved the setup of this one, but the main character Lucy was so hard to root for. She was not likable in the slightest so it was difficult to cheer for a HEA with Jack. Jack was a good guy and deserved better honestly. There were some humorous parts with a lot of miscommunication, but I wanted more of a spark. I did like the writing style and would check out the author again.
I was excited to read this romance book. I found the idea of sharing a house with your enemy only to progressively fall in love with them super fun!
The enemies-to-lovers trope is not a real thing though. The reason why Lucy hates Zack is disproportionate: she hates him for being late, carefree and confident. You have to be delusional to indulge in a petty unreciprocated grudge but whatever.
Speaking of Lucy, I didn't like her at first and only ended up tolerating her. She loves her work so much she doesn't pay attention to her close circle. I understand it's the point the author wanted to develop but Lucy was still going to choose the same path at the end of the book, which kinda cancelled any growth she was starting to show. I didn't care about Zack either. They're both one-dimensional.
The "character development" lacks finesse. In the first part, Lucy is angry, desperate and judgemental while Zack is smug and zen. In the second part, they have different personalities! They're suddenly attracted to each other, jealous of the other's potential bedroom activities and other things not worth mentioning. There is no transition whatsoever between these two parts.
Whether it's about the themes, the romance, the friendships or the characters, this novel has a serious lack of development. A few scenes are fun to read but that's it.
This is a cozy romance novel where two people at first hate each other and then ended up falling for each other!
Lucy Clark is a workholic and with her friend's request she starts yoga. While doing yoga, she meets Zach and the two didn't get along well. In fact, the two cross the path when Zach offers to buy Lucy's childhood house. The Lucy and Zach becomes housemates.
Not very sure about why there were low ratings but I actually did enjoy the book. I can say that the first part of the story was boring but then it kind of got a little interesting.. There were some funny parts in the book that will actually burst into laughter and I do like the how the romance slowly developed between Lucy and Zach. The only negative things about the book is there were too much of dialogue and of course the ending was very predictable. However, the writing was really good. Even though it seemed to me that many readers did not like the Lucy character, I thought she was actually an OK character.
If you like romance where with enemies to lovers trope in it, then this book is one for you--worth four stars!
Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
The description for this book was very promising. However I couldn’t connect with the main character. The story ended up being not very believable.
Lucy is a workaholic, in the worst possible way. She runs an interior design company. There is a lot of work and with just her, she is struggling to keep up with it. It has come so far, that she spent the better part of the pre-wedding party in the bathroom hunched over the laptop. After an unfortunate drunken email, her job is on the line and she manages to disappoint her best friend, the only friend she has left, by answering the phone just before the ceremony.
Her parents are high-powered workaholics, so she spent a lot of her childhood with her grandma. When the house goes on the market she is excited to buy it, but the bank does approve her.
Part of getting back to good graces with her BF are weekly yoga sessions, which she doesn't like, at all. Especially when Zack takes over. She even storms out of the session once. She doesn't like wasting time.
Then it turns out that he is competing to buy the house with her, and when none of them can afford it on their own, they buy it together. It seems like a big mistake at first, but it turns out that Zack is the perfect person for her, to show her that there is more to life than just work.
Lucy is a hard character to like, she is often rude and self-involved, without even meaning to do so. It takes a lot for her to see the error of her ways, she almost loses it all, to see what is really important. She grows throughout the book and by the end I kind of liked her. :)
It's funny, it's fast-paced, the kind of book you can read in one sitting, preferably somewhere on the beach. :)
thanks to Netgalley & Bookouture for the ARC, all opinions are my own

A cute enemies to lovers ! Such a cute funny story. Easy read one I would definitely enjoy reading again!
