An absolutely page-turning, laugh-out-loud rom com, perfect for fans of The Hating Game and The Spanish Love Deception.
There are so many unlikeable characters in this book. And they’re not the ones the author meant. The main character, Lucy, is a workaholic, sure. But her entire business is ruined on her best friend’s hen trip, and it’s seen as a statement about Lucy’s misguided priorities and reason for her to apologize rather than reason for her to cut her toxic friends off. The love interest is messy and chaotic and sneaks a dog in the house even after he finds out that she’s allergic and it’s glossed over. He disappears for weeks and it’s just him being a free spirit and she should trust him more.
It’s not that Lucy is super likeable herself. She’s judgmental and untruthful. But it feels like literary gaslighting to suggest that she’s the main issue. I have no problem with her working less and starting a relationship. But there’s no chemistry between her and the love interest and he’s no big catch.
Clearly didn’t work for me at all.
Received an arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed my time with Danielle Owen-Jones' debut Stone Broke Heiress when I read it earlier this year, so of course I couldn't resist the temptation when I was invited to read her newest story Stuck With Him. Especially since the blurb sounded like great fun with the two strangers (and seemingly complete opposites) buying a house together... I did become a bit more hesitant after seeing the recent spell of bad reviews, but I still had hopes it would be a success for me after a great first experience with her writing. Sadly, I did end up having mixed thoughts instead.
First of all, I do have to say that I still love the premise of Stuck With Him. Two strangers buying a house together sounds like madness, and the perfect backdrop for a romantic comedy; especially if the two characters are complete opposites and don't seem to have anything in common. I really liked the author's style of humor and writing in her debut, so I fully expected this story to be a great fit as well... Even more if you consider such a strong premise. Unfortunately this time around the story ended up being a bit of a miss for me and I do understand the mixed reviews now.
There were things that did work for me of course, including the premise I mentioned before and the setting. The writing itself was still easy on the eye and I found myself turning those pages quickly enough. The bare bones of the humor was still there, and there were some funny parts. BUT. I think my main issue with Stuck With Him is that the main character Lucy is condescending, rude, self-centered and simply despicable. I felt bad vibes as soon as I met her during the hen party in Spain (although her friends weren't exactly considerate towards her either), but after I saw how she was basically looking down on everybody and how she treated Zack simply for being different than herself? Yuck. She basically ruined the whole story for me, although I never completely warmed up to Zack either (probably because I was too busy feeling sorry for him).
The romance itself didn't feel credible to me; especially because the switch was too sudden and I never believed in their connection in the first place. Add the love triangle and the unnecessary tension and the romance most definitely didn't do this story any favors for me. This is mainly Lucy's fault of course, but then again I already mentioned just how much I disliked her character in general. The dog Kat brought some relief (although I was seriously annoyed by the allergy angle and how it was developed)... But it wasn't enough to save the story.
All in all Stuck With Him wasn't exactly a winner for me, which was mostly due to the main character and less than credible romance and love triangle. The writing style and humor itself were still solid enough to make me want to try her next story though.
Overall this was a good book that I enjoyed, I just didn’t love it.
It took me until I was within the last few chapters to get hooked and I think it was because the slow burn felt too slow. I didn’t feel like there was enough hints and evidence to show how Zach actually felt toward Lucy, especially since he’s supposed to have liked her from the get go. So when his feelings were revealed there wasn’t enough build up to it.
That being said I loved the overall plot and the plot twists at the end really caught me off guard and I didn’t expect them at all! And the part with the grandmother was really sweet and I love how it was woven into the conflict resolution
I had mixed feelings when it came to the main characters. Lucy would constantlyyy bring up her exes to justify why she would struggle to trust people, which makes sense but she just kept bringing it uppp 😭 There were a few scenes with Zack that made me cringe cause the actions he did were really not necessary and irritated meee so much! However, with these exceptions, I did really ship these two and I couldn't stop squealing!!! There were so many scenes where I was enjoying their banter and I could not stop smilinggg 😍 and their relationship development had really good pacing so that's a win from me! 😂
I love that there seemed to be a slight grumpy x sunshine dynamic but reversed!!! I've never read one with it reversed but omg I really enjoyed it!! There was also a miscommunication trope 👀 which I know isn't a favourite for many (and usually me) but I honestly feel like it made sense?? I would've jumped to the exact same conclusions as her with what happened and it made sensee! I actually really enjoyed the use of this trope 🙈 especially cause of the slight pain and angst and don't even get me started on the amount of chest pains I was getting (which probably isn't healthy but I'm going to pin that on me being an emotional person 👀)
Don't even get me started on the cute doggo 🥺😍 have a dog in a book and you win me over (as long as the dog stays safe 😠)
"Forced Proximity is one of the trickiest tropes, in my opinion."
The reason behind my statement is pretty simple really. Forced proximity can be the very best thing or the very worst thing, and very rarely are there situations when it can be somewhere in between. I mean to say, that in such scenarios it can be very easy for characters to see the best and worst of each other. Miscommunication, despite such close quarters, is very high and in most scenarios that's what makes it fun. The best part being, that such closeness tends to ramp up the (ahem) sexual tension. (The Sex Swing got me)
Stuck with him has somehow managed to stay in the middle. I loved the banter and the comically opposite traits of Lucy and Zack (Ziggy). I loved the fact that there was some deep family issues and concerns for both of them. I liked the fact that they slowly brought out the best in each other. And, of course, I was very happy with the ending. Would've loved to have an airport scene though.
Thank you NetGalley, Danielle Owens-Jones and Bookouture for letting me read this Advanced Reader's copy.
I love enemies to lovers, and Stuck With Him certainly does not dissapoint to deliver.
Whilst the premise is... a little unbelievable...I mean, who would actually buy a house with a relative stranger they barely know and instantly dislike, this set-up is a recipe for both disaster and hilarity, and a little swoony steam where one might scream at their kindle for the main characters to KISS, GODDAMMIT! if their husband wasn't asleep in bed next to them... ahem.
I enjoyed Stuck With Him. Any book boyfriend with the looks of Harry Styles is an instant win/win for me, because. well, duh. My only issue was that I feel like some of the book dragged, and there were a few instances where I didn't necessarily like certain characters; thankfully, most redeemed themselves.
I loved Stone Broke Heiress, and so Stuck With Him was another instant one-click, and Danielle Owen-Jones definitely delivered with book two.
I can't wait to see what she brings with her next instalment.
I found it really hard to connect with the characters even though I love enemies to lovers! This one just missed the mark for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc ebook in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Lucy is a workaholic - I mean, driven business-woman - and interior designer. Until a drunken mistake on her best friend's hen do leaves her without most of her clients. The opportunity to buy her childhood home is too good to miss, but with her financials in this state she can't buy it on her own. Enter Zack - her infuriating new yoga teacher who proposes an interesting solution. They buy the house together.
When she's forced to relax to prove to her best friend that she can, Lucy realises that there are more important things in life - like creating a list of rules to live by with her new housemate. And figuring out why she has a cold. And how to get a big new client. Her whole life turns upside down when she moves into her childhood home, the home which once belonged to her beloved grandmother, and Lucy is confronted with an entirely different worldview.
Danielle Owen-Jones' latest book, set in the sprawling Liverpool metropolis, is a fantastic, witty, heart-wrenching romance novel which I could not put down! The cast of characters are superb, from the relentlessly busy Lucy, to her firm but fair best friend Katy, to the laid-back, charming Zack. The romance plot is superb, and the pacing is phenomenal. The dialogue is sharp, but funny, and you get swept up in Lucy's life and invested in each decision she makes. It's not just a romance novel; it is about realising what is important in life, and what is important to you. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an intelligent, funny, gorgeously written romance.
Thank you ever so much to Danielle Owen-Jones, Bookouture, and NetGalley for this ARC of Stuck with Him in return for an honest review.
I was really excited to read this one and really felt like it would be a good storyline. Unfortunately I found it to be a little too out there for me to really buy in to. I felt that the characters were brought together in a pretty unrealistic way and then the idea of them buying the house together as virtual are hangers really just threw me off. I tried really hard to work through if and get past how random it felt, but I just couldn’t seem to do it
I did enjoy the main character and thought she was funny and well written.
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
I loooved this! This was such a fun, cute and light read I loved that the grumpy x sunshine was the other way around. Zack is such a chill, very zen person and then you've got Lucy, who's very business, not a very open
person at all. But they balance each other out and I enjoyed reading about their relationship grow from
somewhat enemies to friends to lovers
Thank you so much netgalley & bookouture for the digital ARC ☺️
This was everything I didn’t know I needed. Roomate Romances are my favorite trope so I knew I was going to like it., but my oh my…it just worked for me.
Lucy Clark is such a great character, she is an ambitious business woman who juggles her private and her work life. She meets her absolute opposite in Zack, a certified Yoga Instructor. I loved how the characters were sculpted and how they ended up living together. This was so cute and funny, but equally meaningful and challenging.
There was a huge miscommunication trope, which I normally don’t love but it fit perfectally! I normally don’t do british romcoms either, but this is just proof how good it is. Highly recommend reading this gem!!!! (got my out of my reading slump!)

I love that this story is set in Liverpool as most stories I read just happen to not be set in England! The writer gives real place names in the Lake District and describes them so beautifully. I have never been and so Lucy and Zack have now made me want to visit!
I couldn't stop laughing to myself at Lucy's ramblings, her honesty and just the way she always managed to find herself in trouble! But she learnt more about herself through it all, discovered her purpose and meaning in life and and most importantly, she found true love!
Thank you, Bookouture!
Stuck with him!
Lucy workaholic meets Zack (Ziggy) yoga teacher. It’s a classic opposite attract story!
Lucy is stressed and has made her whole life her job, her friends have repeatedly told her how much it’s hurting them. A major incident happens which makes her friend insist she goes to yoga to relax a bit. After meeting Zack Lucy ends up living with him! They need rules after an incident. Rule #1 Nakedness reserved for the bedroom only.
This is a book filled of many romance tropes and behind close door spice!
If you enjoyed the flat share I think you will like this one!
Thanks netgalley for this arc, all thought And views are my own.
This book was fine and the banter was fun, but it was missing the spark that makes British rom-coms so enjoyable.
I think the main couple lacked in chemistry and a lot of the issues they faced seemed to be fixed way too soon. I also think they're the type of book couple to break up due to being too different, but that's just my opinion.
Overall, fine but not the best I've read.

Thank you so much @danniowenjonesauthor and @bookouture for an eARC copy.
If you’re a fan of Sophie Kinsella you’re going to love this. It delivered on what it promised. It was funny, heart warming and such a delight to read.
One of my favorite moments was when they were in the bank together. Also hearing about the situations that Lucy got in due to her clients was hilarious. Like the time she was arrested for accidentally smuggling a rare tortoise that had hidden itself in a rug.
I got a tad emotional at the end but the whole message of having a work life balance was conveyed really well.
I can’t wait to read other books by the author. I really enjoyed it and hope you do too.
I loved this book 😩
I was going to give it 4 stars after the amount of second hand embarrassment I got but then it made me cry, automatically boosting it up to 5 stars. Thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
2* for effort.
Why so many 5* reviews, did I read the same book?
Lucy Clark is a non-stop workaholic, she's also selfish and unlikeable, her conduct quite honestly was horrible. At her best friend's wedding where she's a bridesmaid, Lucy carries her phone in her bouquet as expecting an important call. Naturally the phone rings when they're about to walk down the aisle. I'm astonished Lucy had any friends.
Easy going yoga teacher Zack is a lovely guy, he's laid back and friendly to everyone, even teasing the un-teaseable Lucy. When both Lucy and Zack want to buy the same house, for financial reasons they decide to become joint owners. Problem one, Lucy hates Zack, yet she considers living in the same house to be a good idea. Problem two, Lucy thinks that while sharing the house she can change Zack to become what she imagines is a responsible adult, or rather a clone of herself.
I enjoy plots about enemies to lovers, but I need to have some empathy with the main characters. I took a strong aversion to Lucy, she was constantly unpleasant and I couldn't imagine her genuinely changing her attitude. As a villain she'd be perfect.
In my opinion this is incorrectly described as 'an hilarious and uplifting romantic comedy' and with my loathing of self absorbed Lucy, I deleted without finishing.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion.
Danielle Owen-Jones does it again! After being a lover of Stone Broke Heiress, I was so nervous that this wasn’t going to live up to my very high expectations and I’m so glad I kept an open mind. This one took me a good bit to really hit my stride with but it was worth it.
Stuck With Him is not going to be the typical trope of enemies to lovers and like Danielle’s first novel, she writes her characters in a way that you love to hate them and then realize you actually love them. I compared her debut to Schitt’s Creek and similar to that style- these characters are hard to love. Each has their flaws and annoyances. I typically can’t stand a miscommunication trope but this works for me.
This is the absolute slowest burn which usually also doesn’t work for me but again- Danielle makes it work! This is a novel that is so much deeper than a romance or a rom-com and plays on so many nuances of work/life balance, feelings of failure vs success, and managing adult friendships when you’re in very different stages of life.
At this point, Danielle just needs to write all of my least favorite tropes to convince me that they’re worth reading. Bravo for a fantastic follow-up to my insanely high standards of her debut.
I loved the synopsis of this book, as well as the cover. However, I just could not find any characters I liked. From the get go, the way Lucy behaved at her best friends wedding made me despise her and it didn't get any better from there. I really struggled to get through this book but I am really grateful for receiving the ARC of this from Netgalley & Bookouture, so I pushed through and wanted to provide my honest feedback. To end of a positive note, the writing was really good - Danielle definitely has talent, and this won't deter me from reading her future work!
