I wish i could say i liked the female protagonist, but no. Despite of my a lot of efforts, it seemed impossible to like Lucy. Even at the beginning, how Lucy behaved on her best friend's wedding, see thoroughly selfish and the behaviour of the other friends were vice-versa.
And i can't take this as an enemy to lover book, because Lucy seemed to forced this title to Jack. Because she was just forcing it, being mannerless and rude to Jack. The author was going for slow burn, but as the romance was lacking,it didn't feel like anything. Again,it was because of Lucy, and her insufferable behaviour and criticism.
Even though plot was interesting, the book didn’t work for me cause of the characters or let say character. Lucy was unbelievably judgemental, thinking of everyone beneath her and she always acted like she was the only one with problems, others were just lying on rose petals.
so, i read a book. yes did in fact read a book. i indulge in a little romance every now and then! i love a little enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slay, and a third. i eat that up every now and then. this... you know there were elements i absolutely adored in this book. i thought the initial sparks that zach and lucy had when they were teetering out of mortal enemies zone were cute, but that's pretty much it. i had so many headaches reading this and i the only people i can fault were these unlikeable characters. you wouldn't understand the joy i'd feel to throw a brick at katie, she pissed me off so hard. i'm trying to pinpoint a time where i'm supposed to like her and i'm blanking. truly. overall, i think there was a target audience in mind, that was just not me. i can see how someone would adore this book, adore these characters, adore the little enemies to lovers, forced proximity, slay, and a third but your honor, that was not me.
Danielle Owens Jones does it again! Her books are an absolute treat and I love being swept away into the world she creates!
This time we meet Lucy and we follow her journey through buying a house with her worst enemy.
If that doesn’t pull you in! We see her go back and forth with Zach and all the hilarity that ensues may be the thing she least suspected but needed most! I loved her previous title and will definitely be adding this title to our branch. Perfect if you loved the very popular Hating Game as well as lovers to haters troupe.
Already awaiting the next release!!
Thank you very much to Bookouture for the privilege
This book checks all the boxes for a rom-com that I look for, but the execution is not great. The characters are pretty unlikeable, and the relationships all felt like they swung wildly from love to hate and back again. Too much time is spent with Lucy focusing on how much she can't stand Zach (except that he looks like Harry Styles), so the romance feels kind of out of nowhere. All that said, it was a fun, quick summer read, and I felt like the characters generally reacted to events like normal human beings would. 2.5 rounded down to 2.
"None of that matters".
I must say I really enjoyed this reading!! This romantic comedy made me laugh so much troughout the book and I might have cried a little towards the end. You could tell the chemistry almost from the beginning, although I would get a bit confused sometimes. But that's what the author wants u to feel. And she successed. I can't say much without spoiling so I'll make it brief. I loved the banter between the characters! I would die laughing with them. I loved to see the fmc improvement especially. And in this book you really take what the author it's trying to say. You can have a life besides work and you should! I really enjoyed this book and I'm definitely be reading "Stone broke heiress", which I saw on Amazon!!!
Enemies to lovers, opposites attract, forced proximity. It hits all the tropes I could want in a rom-com, its too bad the main characters are literally the worst. Workaholic is one thing but Lucy is beyond! What's worse is that her friend, Katie, is even worse. She is judgemental as hell, and holds everything against Lucy. I don't even like Lucy and I can still say that she is a bad friend. I mean, are we supposed to like these characters??? Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an eARC of this book in return for my honest opinion. Stuck with him is a cute easy to read that follows the two main leads Lucy and Zack, strangers that buy a house together. Lucy and Zack go from strangers, to enemies, to lovers, it’s perfect for those that enjoy enemies to lovers and miscommunication trope. I did find the relationship between Lucy and her best friend Kate a lot and a bit annoying at times but I do get how it add to the story and Lucy’s backstory. I liked twists within the story, including the identity of Lucy’s boss and her Thursday appointments. This story lacks spice, so for those that enjoy a bit of spice will be disappointed. Overall a cute read and an interesting idea.
This is such a fun enemies to lovers book! It was such a quick, easy-read that had me actually laughing out loud! It definitely had Hallmark movie vibes. Very cute. I’d recommend to anyone that likes rom-com books!
Lucy and Zack are strangers who buy a house together and somehow fall in love.
This book was just okay for me. I get that Lucy was supposed to be headstrong, but her friendship with Katie was insufferable. The communication between our leads was non-existent til the end of the book (so much miscommunication)! No spice either, which is okay but I think this book would have benefitted.
Overall it didn’t do it for me. The premise was good but not well executed. I’d give another book by this author a try though.
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Having enjoyed this book I was surprised to read such negative reviews! Whilst I understand some of the comments - both main characters can be quite annoying (no one would have any friends left if they behaved like Lucy!) - it is ultimately an easy holiday read. However some elements of the plot are quite unrealistic and almost annoying in their implausibility. For example buying a house with a complete stranger would be ridiculous in real life, and the author could have kept the majority of the plot the same if Lucy and Zack had been housemates renting the house, stubborn because they both want it, then the house could have come up for sale at the end of the book when they could finally have committed together.
I did ultimately enjoy the book though, and it provided a bit of light reading for my afternoon off!
I just do not think this author and me are compatible. This is the second book I have read by her and I just did not like it. I just don't think her writing style is for me. I didn't really like the characters the overall story seemed pretty boring to me. I do not think I will read another book by her.
Thank you @netgalley and @bookouture for the copy of this eARC in exchange of my honest review.
This was unfortunately a DNF for me. The premise was cute, but I couldn’t get into any of the characters. Lucy’s workaholic tendencies are so severe she can’t even be there for her best friend’s wedding festivities. I couldn’t bring myself to continue.
while unfortunately the books premise was so very very promising , i was left disappointed with how lackluster lucy and zacks romance was . i found both characters plain and yet very much irritating . i wish this couldve worked for me , but ultimately , this is a 1.5 . ( tbh i skimmed most of it )
tl;dr : sadly did not work for me , but can definitely work for other audiences !
Thank you for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately I struggled with this book. I liked the forced proximity concept, but I found Lucy to be quite rude and unfair to most people around her (and especially Zack). It was difficult being in the head of someone that unforgiving! This book also relied heavily on a miscommunication issue, which I find always find challenging to read because I want to yell at the characters and tell them to talk to each other!
The complication at the end was an interesting twist I didn’t see coming. That was a nice surprise. I also enjoyed the bit of personal growth we saw from Lucy.
In short - this book wasn’t my personal style, but I think other readers who don’t mind the miscommunication trope will enjoy it.
Thank you for the ARC copy Netgalley and Bookouture for an honest review. #StuckWithHim #NetGalley
The description of the book sounded super cute and something right up my alley, but I did not really connect with Lucy (our main character) or the plot of the story. The book, although well written, did not connect with me. I found the writing style to be super unengaging for me. The need for Lucy to always be working to always be in the driver's seat really made me not like her as much as I wanted to. Which then also made it at times not easy to read along. For me personally, the humor was not working and at times really not funny.
In a nutshell, I think the idea of the book was there, but the overall deliverance was not executed well enough for me to enjoy it.
This was a safe and cute book. Not much cursing and no spicy scenes. Definitely a safe read if you’re not looking for something with lots of raunchy stuff. I liked Lucy but Zack annoyed me a lot of the time.
I really wanted to enjoy this book, but I couldn't get over my dislike for almost all of the characters. The chemistry between Zack and Lucy didn't work for me, and the plot fell flat.
The idea of living with a stranger and the plot of enemies to lovers sparked my curiosity, but both of the main characters failed to hold my attention. I couldn't grasp Lucy's point of view because she was so rude and unlikable. But I've never disliked the main characters in a book as much as I did in this one. Being a workaholic, like Lucy, is understandable, but this is the next level. She was completely self-absorbed and incapable of being a good friend to her one and only best friend. She irritated me all the way to the end.
Worse yet, her best friend, Katie, is even worse. She is extremely judgmental of Lucy and holds everything against her. Even though I dislike Lucy, I can still think she is a horrible friend. There were a few hilarious moments, but overall, I didn't enjoy Stuck with Him.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing this ARC.
In full disclosure, I only read up until Chapter 14 / 33%, so my feedback will be based on that. First I want to say thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this honestly.
I requested this book because the premise sounded great, enemies to lovers and forced proximity? Sign me up!
This book takes an awful amount of time to get to the point, considering the actual move in is at 33% (chapter 14).
It is my personal opinion that this book should have started at the first bank meeting, anything before that was a bit redundant and wastes a lot of time for seemingly nothing. It could've easily begun at the bank, and then offered backstory in that chapter; why is her cashflow looking so bad suddenly (insert internal reminscing about the tequila disaster in Spain), why is this so important to Lucy (insert explanation about it being her childhood home, and how she'll be damned if this guy buys it instead of her), why does he annoy her so much (he's the instructor she's forced to see once a week because of the class she takes as a clause to save her friendship after missing half of her friend's wedding due to a work call), that would've had more of an effect than having to read through everything beforehand. Some times less really is more.
I usually love an unlikable character, but the problem here is that Lucy has no redeemable qualities, she is incredibly judgemental and doesn't have a single positive thing to say about anything or anyone, it makes her impossible to root for. One could argue that this behaviour stems from her business crashing and burning, except she had the same attitude of acting like everyone were beneath her from the very beginning when her business was still intact. In fact, I couldn't understand why she was even at that bacholerette party to begin with. She didn't seem to like anyone (not even her so called best friend, she sure didn't have anything nice to say about any of them) and very clearly didn't want to be there. And what friend holds someone's laptop above the pool as a wake-up call "for their own good"? No good friend I ever saw.
My point is simply that the first chunk of the book doesn't need to be there, it wastes the reader's time, especially since this book is marketed the way it is, it shouldn't take as long as it does to get to the main part of the story.
As for Zack, he's really not the problem in this book, Lucy is. He's not acting any different than anyone running a yoga and meditation class would, his only flaw is constantly being late. It's just Lucy that's decided it's her against everyone. But overall I struggled to find a single character to like in this book.
It is because of the things I've explained above that I decided to not continue with this book, my rating is therefore based on the first 13chapters that I did read. I looked up the author and realise her debut was only earlier this year, and I wish her all the best with future writing projects, her idea was great, it just fell a bit flat for me.
Lucy Clark is a busy interior designer who is building her business from nothing. Her success relies solely on her type-A energy. Her business is taking off and she is faced with several split decisions that leads her down a path to focus her energy and find balance in her life. This is where she meets Zach. A free-spirited yogi who is the exact opposite of Lucy in every single way. When she has the opportunity to buy her childhood home, she pounces… even if it means having a really unlikely roommate.
This story is a slow burn and an absolutely sweet story. This would make the perfect lazy beach book. Thank you so much to Bookouture and Net Galley for my first Danielle Owen-Jones book. This book was read on my Kindle as an ARC for my honest review.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Sadly this fell very flat for me. The characters were not memorable, they felt underdeveloped and boring. Lucy felt outright annoying, too extreme in her ways, and too childish. I did not connect with Zack at all but wish he was treated better by Lucy. Their relationship didn't make me clutch my pearls, didn't make me feel anything.
Just felt irritated and annoyed with every single character. Very disappointed because the synopsis sounds very fun and the comparison to The Spanish Love Deception made me so eager to read this one.
