Lucy Clark has just brought a house with her worst enemy some might say she’s crazy that her sanity cracked the night she lost her business her best friend and her house in one great margarita themed disaster but not Lucy she knows that the final straw was when Zack Mr I’m your infuriating laidback yet impossibly ripped new yoga teacher decided to put in a competing offer to buy her childhood home which as it turns out neither of them can actually afford but Lucy isn’t a type A perfectionist for nothing there is no way she’s backing down without those front door keys in her hand no price is too high and if Zack thinks they should become housemates to afford the mortgage together well he’d better be prepared but when Zack moves in with his weird health food in the fridge Lucy realises that maybe she’s the one with no clue what’s coming
I really enjoyed this book I couldn’t put it down totally recommend
Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture
I just reviewed Stuck With Him by Danielle Owen-Jones. #StuckWithHim #NetGalley
I mean, enemies to lovers, opposites attract, forced proximity. It hits all the tropes I could want in a rom-com. But I have never disliked the main characters more in a book than this book. I can understand being a workaholic, like Lucy, but this is next level. What's worse is that her friend, Katie, is even worse. She is judgemental as hell, and holds everything against Lucy. I don't even like Lucy and I can still say that she is a bad friend. I mean, are we supposed to like these characters at all? I don't get it. I'm not here for it. Forced myself to finish it.
Shout out to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Overall I liked the set-up and the plot, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters and believing the progression.
I'm not sure who is more unlikable, Lucy or her friends. I understand her story development and why she so badly wants to purchase the house. I had a harder time understanding Zach's reasoning and why he was so willing to go in on the purchase with Lucy until the end when he reveals his feelings for Lucy from the beginning. I think I wanted more development of Lucy and Zach's relationship, more than just the light-switch realization she has that sets their relationship in motion.
I believe there's a lot of potential with this novel, but I needed more from the character development and the pacing of the storyline.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the eARC and opportunity to read and review.
Thank you for the ARC!
This book was a typical romcom enemies-to-lovers book. I always enjoy a good enemies to lovers trope and it was interesting to see the characters work through their forced proximity. Overall, the plot was great, however I was not really attached or connected much with the characters. The writing style was good, it was easy to read and captivating. I would recommend definitely this to someone who’s a fan of the trope and is looking for a quick read but i’m not sure if it’s something I’d read again.
this was okay but i expected way more.. the enemies to lovers was badly done and it felt like the development was non existent.
also the miscommunication trope… like its never a good trope.
i also think katie and lucy were both annoying but zach was okay.
otherwise the plot is a pretty good trope and the book (and the writing) had potential!
I was so excited for this one.... but oh my. I could not find a single likeable character. Lucy created her own problems and was just all around a flop of a protagonist. From the first couple chapters she was painted to be a selfish, self-centered workaholic and her image never really improved. I kept hoping it would get better, but this one fell flat for me.
Lucy and Zack both put offers on her childhood home and when they are both turned down at the bank, he suggests that they buy it together. These two are total opposites and Lucy has to suggests a set of ground rules to keep things from going crazy. But when two people who seem totally opposite are forced into close proximity, you know how these stories go…
I thought Lucy was a little rigid at times. It was her family house, but Zack also owned the house but Lucy completely monopolized decisions regarding the house while Zack did the work. I do think different elements weaved together nicely towards the end to create a final conflict.
Overall, a nice read! Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC! I read and reviewed this voluntarily. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a pretty cute book with decent character development, a strong voice, and an interesting premise. I will say that I had some issues with some of Lucy's decisions and her focus on her career and clients (especially at the start of the book), but that is definitely due to not lining up with my personal values. I did enjoy seeing Lucy and Zach learn about each other and how to navigate living together. It was very satisfying when their relationship began.
I received an advanced reader copy of Stuck With Him from Netgalley.
This is a clean rom-com about workaholic Lucy learning to find balance in her life. The story opens with Lucy nearly ruining her interior design business AND her friendship with BFF Katie simultaneously. Katie begs Lucy to attend meditation classes where she meets yogi Zack whose lateness and positive attitude grind Lucy's gears. After putting in competing offers on the same house, Lucy and Zack join forces to buy the house of their dreams. These unlikely roommates must learn to live together because Lucy is convinced this house, her childhood home, is the key to her happiness.
The first chapter was so well written, very very sharp. It's the type of writing that makes me wish I was a writer! But the story loses its way quickly. To me, the bachelorette party shenanigans were bad enough, but to add the layer of Katie's wedding was too much. At first, I empathized with Lucy as a fellow (recovering) workaholic, but as the story unfolded I had a hard time staying on Lucy's side. The way Lucy treats Katie throughout the book is unforgivable, and the way she treats Zack isn't great either.
The pacing of the book was an issue for me. You get about 25 percent of the way through the story before Lucy and Zack have any significant interaction. And we really don't learn much about Zack until the story is nearly over. Maybe this is the reason that I did not see the chemistry between these leads whatsoever. Every time Lucy was like "is it just me, or did we have a moment?" I'm like.. yeah, it's just in your head, girl. I wasn't buying it.
Read this if you're in the mood for:
-enemies to lovers (ish)
-grumpy sunshine (grumpy girl)
-roommate to lovers
-clean romance
Stuck With Him
I was drawn to this one for the gorgeous cover art and the intriguing premise. I’m always up for a romcom, and a fan of enemies to lovers and forced proximity.
I think this was an interesting read. I really thought it started with a very interesting scenario at the hen party. I won’t give any spoilers but it definitely had me interested. I have to say though I could understand certain frustrations the other girls may have had with Lucy - they really lost my respect with what went on (Katie and the other girls), I ended up feeling very bad for Lucy.
Although the house share was an interesting premise, I wasn’t really feeling the romance between our two mains. Zack and Lucy were each interesting characters with their various issues, but the lack of communication or the miscommunication vehicle as a driver in the book is generally not my thing.
Overall, it was a quick, easy afternoon or beach read and I would try more from the author in the future.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
4 stars for this cute rom-com!
I was gratefully surprised by this book. It's one of those comfort reads you need from time to time that gets you laughing and takes you away from every-day worries.
Lucy and Zach do NOT see eye-to-eye on life. From punctuality to work, they're just polar opposites. However, when Lucy's grandma's house is up for sale, she finds herself having to rely on him if she wants to have any shot at buying it. Suddenly, her dream home has a nightmare roomie. How could it possibly work?
If you're looking for a fun, enemies-to-lovers rom-com, please check this one out! Also, if you're not into spice, this one will be a great choice for you!
I struggled to connect with the characters. Lucy’s friends were terrible. I appreciated that Lucy and zack both had things they had to grow through.
There’s slow burn and then there’s glacially slow burns.
The writing was good and I enjoyed the writers style.
Enemies to lovers
Thank you so much for allowing me to read and review your titles. I really not the opportunity!
I do appreciate it and continue to review books that I get the chance to read.
Thanks again!
I was excited when I received an ARC for this book as the promotion said it was for fans of the Flatshare - unfortunately I felt really let down.
The entire novel felt like it revolved around miscommunication which made me feel like the characters could have solved their problems within ten pages if Lucy had just spoken about their issues and worries. This included with Zack, her friends, her clients - it made me really struggle to get into the book. I found the characters very flat, with Lucy appearing really judgemental and rude, and the other characters being boring and not very impressionable. I feel like the author went for flawed, messy, modern characters, but instead it came across as quite childish and selfish.
Overall I struggled with the narrative and writing style, and I feel if I had not received an ARC I would have stopped reading about halfway through. Unfortunately, this book was not for me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
The whole concept of living with a stranger and the enemies to lovers storyline sounded so intriguing to me but then both the main characters failed to keep my attention. Lucy especially was so rude and unlikeable, I just couldn't understand her point of view. She was always bombarding Zack with her judgemental comments. Never bothered to get to know him. She was totally self centred and she couldn't even be a good friend to her only best friend. She annoyed me till the very end and because of that I grew to like Zack. He was such a nice, sweet and caring person who didn't deserve to be constantly criticized. The only characters I liked were Zack & Katie everyone else felt overly dramatic and unreal. The plot had potential, the writing was good but I am disappointed with the way all the things turned out.
Thank you Natgalley for providing me with the ARC
So we have this girl, Lucy; she is a workaholic and her life is a mess, she is stressed and on the verge of a mental breakdown. Her best friend forces her to go to a meditation class where she meets a yoga instructor that wants the same house where she lived as a child.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It has all of my favorite tropes. Enemies to lovers, forced proximity and grumpy/sunshine where the girl is the grumpy one. I also love home renovations and design in general. I also happen to love Liverpool.
I could understand everything Lucy was going through as growing up is always complicated. I rooted for her the whole book. Your friends forcing you to do yoga is something that could definitely happen to me.
On the contrary, I found the male protagonist not dreamy enough but I think it is just a personal preference, aloof men are not my thing. I think he is ok for her.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I wish I could say I loved this book but… It was really not for me.
I must say I really liked Lucy. She has shitty friends and was struggling with her business so bad she deserves more credit. But Zach? No way. I’m sorry but i’m really not into this type of character. He came off stupid and flabby. He’s boring and all this yoga thing ? I hated it.
Thank you NetGalley for this eARC.
After reading The Flatshare, I was looking forward to an angsty book about enemies-to-lovers in forced proximity but, unfortunately, I was not satisfied. The story overall was sort of enjoyable, but it definitely needs improvement.
The beginning was unnecessarily slow. Some parts and dialogues were also a bit immature and unrealistic. As someone who regularly attends yoga classes, I found Zack to be a terrible teacher. I don't know about you, but never in my experience has a yoga teacher challenged someone to practice yoga a certain way, usually, they're there to help and guide you no matter what level you are, actually encouraging you to try more advanced poses without being judgemental or pushy. And despite that, Lucy's reaction was even more childish and irritating.
The two main characters (Lucy and Zack) had almost zero chemistry, and there wasn't enough buildup in their relationship. We only get hints of Lucy's attraction, but don't get to see the evolution of their feelings toward each other. So I missed the excitement of them getting together when it finally happened.
Also, I really could not stand the best friend. It begins with her being upset that Lucy works 24/7 (which is fair enough) then disappears for pretty much the entire book, and at the end, she again gets upset when Lucy decides to go on vacation for a week. So, aside from complaining about their terrible friendship, her role in the story is totally useless.
Anyway, it has potential but there's work to be done.
Lucy Clark bought her childhood home with her worst enemy, her yoga instructor, Zack or "Ziggy" (it's his spiritual name). Lucy & Zack are complete and total opposites but over time, they realize that it's their differences that make them better together.
So the plot was there: living with their enemy? I mean it's a literal step up vs just sharing a working space or a room with an enemy (as some enemies to lovers trope start) but that's all there was to it, unfortunately, a semi-plot.
There's many reasons why this book fell flat for me:
The big reason and the main one as to why I rated it a 2 is because I felt literally nothing towards the characters or story in general.
Lucy is a workaholic, but not only is she a workaholic, but she destroys her relationships/friendships with people BECAUSE of work. She's rude but not in a cute way, she was inconsiderate of others and super childish. I think she was supposed to be like the Grumpy one in this "Grumpy/Sunshine" story but it did not work for her.
Zack is Mr. Sunshine but even his "sunshiney" personality fell flat for me. He seemed conceited, and just idk, all around icky. There's not much I can say about Zack because I just didn't care for him.
Lucy & Zack together, also didn't work. There was no chemistry.
Katie, (Lucy's Best Friend) was just as rude as Lucy but worse. Multiple ultimatums was given to Lucy in exchange for their friendship. That's literally the complete opposite of what a good friend is. Like it's the most toxic friendship ever. I know Lucy was the one to blame for various things that happened to Katie but Katie making Lucy do stuff so Lucy can show Katie that she cared for her.. is not the way to do it.

This was my first book by this author, and I liked the concept! It’s a rom com that features several tropes I enjoy, including opposites attract, enemies to lovers, and forced proximity.
Lucy is a very type A person who is work-obsessed and needs to learn how to balance her life with her job. She meets Zack, a yoga and meditation coach, who is her opposite in nearly every way. They don’t see eye to eye, but find themselves wanting to buy the same house. Zack comes up with a wild idea to buy the home together- and that’s when the fun begins!
I enjoyed this book, but didn’t find myself connecting with the characters as much. I didn’t love Zack or Lucy, so while their romance was cute, it wasn’t one that grabbed me and made me feel invested. Their back stories weren’t very detailed, which may have made them feel more personable and they were a bit one dimensional. This book would make a quick and fun easy read that I’d still recommend to fans of light hearted rom coms.
Thank you to @netgalley and @bookouture for the eARC and opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.
