This is book four in the series. This book is extremely well written. There is excellent character development. The pacing is very good. A great book
I’ve heard great things about this series and so glad I got to be a part of this tour. While this is the first book I’ve read in the series and would’ve been helpful to get background on the characters, I definitely was able to read it as a stand alone! This book definitely lives up to the gripping reviews!
Thank you, Emma Tallon , bookouture & netgalley for my copy! All opinions are my own.
Oh wow! This book was explosive. I loved everything about it. The action. The suspense. The mystery. The crime. All of it played out well in this book. Lily, the head of the family was my favorite character. As you read the story, you get the sense that she holds the more dominant presence in the book. She plays a tough mama. Cillian her son, he place’s himself in the damsel on distress situations, but he can connect some good clues. Scarlet, she is a quite person, who has a strong presence. I can’t wait for more from her character. Ruby I took as the black sheep of the family. The book was intense. It moves at a fast pace. The suspense is crazy, but it’s very good.
A return to the dangerous yet thrilling world of the Drew family and let me tell you, this one did not disappoint!
What I absolutely love about this series is that I'll be fully sucked into the current action, head reeling, and then WHAM, out of nowhere you're thrown the most unexpected new storyline to add into the mix. Those of you who have read it know EXACTLY which part I'm referring to!
As usual, I eagerly await the next installment and pray it's not too far away!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review 📖
Another fantastic instalment of one of my favourite series. Following the lives of the Drew family with just as many shocks and twists as always along the way, Emma Tallon is one of the best crime writers in my opinion!
I have only ever read one book based on the backdrop of underground mafia; "Her Payback" by Emma Tallon is the second one and I am glad I opted to read this book. It is the 4th book in the Drew Family series, which features Scarlet Drew, Lily Drew and her sons, all of whom are a powerful family running underground businesses, while trying to evade from the police.
From what I gather, the previous books in the series have established the various principal characters, their priorities and the dynamics between them. This book mainly deals with the bitterness and enmity between Scarlet, Lily's neice and Ruby, Lily's not-so-together daughter; there is also something mysterious happening around the gym the neighborhood kids train out of and the family makes an effort to find the truth behind it.
What happened between the cousins? What is happening in the gym? What are the other dangers surrounding the family? You will have to read the book to find out the answers to these questions.
Emma Tallon is quite well- known as an author and boasts a large number of fans. Having read the book, I am not surprised. She has an entertaining story-telling style with a clipped and engaging pace. She has the ability to make the reader look at her characters as human beings, even though what they are doing is neither morally nor legally the right thing. We see them as human beings containing flesh and blood; they also possess sentiments, affections and attachments.
I, however, particularly loved the way her female characters are written. They are all no- nonsense, strong women who are no damsels in distress. But that doesn't make them cold and hard. They feel distress, love, pain and worry just like the rest of us; it's just that they are able to take care of themselves. I found myself cheering for them in many instances even though I didn't agree with what they are doing.
This book has interested me in the whole series and I definitely would check the other books in it one of these days. Check this book out if you are into reading a well- written, fast- paced, sharply written gangster thriller which hooks you completely.
Book 4 in The Drew family series. What a corker of a read this was. Emma certainly knows her audiance and what they want from a book. My goodness she delivers and some.
Back with the Drew family and their antics, We seem more focused in this round with just how much Ruby and Scarlet really don't like each other. Is blood really thicker than water?. There is certainly tension between family members, bet we all know family has to stick together. Especially when it's the Drew family. Secrets that have been kept burried for years come rising from the ashes and it's it's going to take a strong family to fight.
I have just read this book after finishing book 3, sometimes falling a little behind in a series has its benefits. It meant i could read these books pretty much back to back. It prolonged my outing with The Drews and in fairness if these books were 1000 pages long each, i'd still be wanting more.
Love the authors story telling and her style of writing is first class. Seriously if you haven't read any of these books i really do highly recommend them and for the best result read from the beginning. Trusht me, you will not be disappointed.
Easy 5 stars as always.
I was really looking forward to reading the continuing saga of the Drews and here it is.
What a brilliant book. Emma really holds you with her firey stories and certainly knows exactly what the reader wants when reading her books. That's action, crime, violence, and danger.
Cousins Ruby and Scarlet have never seen eye to eye, and with Scarlet dating a police officer and Ruby being the daughter of notorious crime boss Lily Drew, Ruby is seething. She sees it as being traitorous.
Lily has her own worries as she has a lifelong secret she doesn't want to come out. and the twins Cillian and Connor Lily's right-hand men and sons are busy trying to hold it all together.
This book will keep you very entertained from the first page right the way through.
Emma has a talent for writing such exciting books, I've read them all and not been disappointed once.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read a review this brilliant book. xx
Yet another brilliant book by Emma Tallon.
Just when you think you know where it’s going, it pulls the rug out from under you and throws surprises your way that you never expected.
The writing is sheer brilliance, the descriptions are excellent and you find it hard to put the book down.
I can’t wait for the next chapter in the Drew family saga.
I love when I find a series that is as addictive as intriguing and that keeps me on my toes from the beginning to the end.
I haven’t read any of the books in this one and while it can be read as a standalone, I think it should be read in order because there are characters and flashbacks parts of stories or even answers to some questions in the past books.
Nevertheless I enjoyed this one. The family dynamics was so intriguing and there are quite a mix of characters.
Greediness, family members rivalry and so many others twisted scenes, all made up for a great time story.
Not sure if I actually liked too much any of them but I had many moments when I was cheering for one of them or the others.
The story made me want to know more about some of the couples and their own books so I’ll be looking forward to read those in the near future.
🆓📖Very grateful to the publisher for having me on this blog tour.
Love this series. Great characters, well written gritty crime thriller. Scarlets Drew is back again. Really enjoyable read. Can't wait for next installment.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest opinion
The Drew family continuing with their mischief although Scarlett seems to have more than one enemy.
A brilliant book which kept you turning the pages but what an ending! Please hurry up with the next one
Hot on the heels of Her Betrayal comes Her Payback from Emma Tallon. I loved being able to read Book 4 in the Drew series so soon after book three and it picked up right where book three left off with just as much pace and drama.
The ongoing power battle between Scarlet and Ruby comes to a head in this book as does Scarlet's forbidden relationship with John, a policeman which is clearly not the norm when part of a family immersed in gangland life.
The pages of this book are packed with twists and turns, violence, family having each other's backs and occasionally stabbing each other in them too and drama from the first page to the last. I can't recommend it highly enough. 5 stars for sure!!!
Well, it feel like we've been waiting for this, instalment number 4 in the lives of Lily, Ruby and Scarlet Drew family. The wait probably hasn't been as long as I thought, sadly no sooner did it land into my sticky little mitts it was finished and so the wait begins again. That leaves us the reader with just one question for Ms Tallon and that is, when is instalment number 5 due out?
Bang!! From the very first page we find ourselves in the doo dah right up to our armpits. New crime boss Lily Drew is currently at her most dangerous, with a gun on the for one of her offspring, it appears as if Cillian has gone missing. Now we all know he's a grown man and can step away for a few days should he so wish but he certainly wouldn't do it without letting someone know.
We all know Scarlet Drew and DI Richards are enjoying the honeymoon period of their relationship, being well aware that as soon as others within either professions find out about them they aren't exactly going to be welcomed into the fold as a couple with open arms. Hence why the pair work so hard to keep it on the down low. Who would have thought we would see the day that a crime boss would attempt to have a serious relationship with one of the boys in blue!
Now that Ruby Drew is back in the bosom of her family, clean and sober you would think that she'd be a changed woman but she seems to have grown even more resentful, especially towards Scarlet. It's good to see that she's only had one relapse since Ray kidnapped her and put her through cold turkey, that she has found her niche within the family business.
Alongside the family drama there's young men being spirited away never to be seen again. They all have one thread in common and that's the boxing club. Jimmy the owner has more than that on his plate so like many others he asks for help from the Drew family. No spoilers here but needless to say there's plenty going on.
As with all this genre of novel there's jealousies, resentments, secrets and a touch of violence chucked in for good measure. If you're a fan of authors such as Kimberley Chambers, Mandasue Heller and Emmy Ellis you'll thoroughly enjoy this authors books, it would probably be best to start with #HerRevenge for maximum enjoyment.
Thank you to the author Emma Tallon, #Netgalley and Bookouture for my ARC. All opinions are mine and mine alone.
Review for 'Her Payback' by Emma Tallon.
Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous
Publication date 15th July 2022.
This is the fourth book I have read by this author. It is also the fourtg book in the 'Drew Family' series but can be read as a standalone. I have also read 'Her Revenge' (book 1),'Her Rival' (book 2) and 'Her Betrayal' (book 3) and absolutely loved each one and would highly recommend this addictive series.
I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching and colouful cover and its intriguing synopsis. The synopsis stated "If you love reading Martina Cole and Kimberley Chambers you won’t be able to put down this thrilling gangland crime thriller from bestselling author Emma Tallon." I am a huge fan of Martina's books so am interested to see if it will live up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Emma and if this is half as good as 'Her Revenge', 'Her Rival' and 'Her Betrayal' it will be an amazing read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).
This novel consists of a prologue, 56 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium to long in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
This book is based in London, England 🏴, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture.
This book is written in third person perspective with the main protagonists being Scarlet Drew, Lily Drew, Ruby Drew, Cillian Drew and DI John Richards. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.
OMG EMMA!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME!!! YET AGAIN, WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY EXPLOSIVE BOOK AND BOMBSHELL CLIFFHANGER ENDING!!! I HOPE YOU'VE WRITTEN YOUR NEXT BOOK BECAUSE I CANNOT WAIT!!!
This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions and the perfect atmosphere for the STORYLINE. The descriptions really emerge the reader into the storyline making your heart race and the hair on your arms raise. The synopsis and cover work perfectly with the book cover.
The book is gripping and addictive from the very first page until the last. I was absolutely hooked throughout with the suspense and tension filled plot. I enjoyed delving back into the underworld and getting to know more about the Drew family worked within the family, the underworld and all the other gangs. The storyline was intricately woven with so many sub plots that kept me completely engaged throughout. The way Emma has written it really helps your imagination picture everything going on. It is filled with laughter, love, crime, loss, shocks, twists and one hell of an explosive ending!!! What an absolute cliffhanger to end on with not just one shocker but many massive bombshells/cliffhangers!!! I was absolutely on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with a pounding heart throughout this absolutely gripping and addictive book!!! I have absolutely loved each and every book in this series but I must say this has definitely got to be the best. It is the most heart racing and nail biting and OMG the emotions I was going through!! I screamed, whited, cried, my nails are bitten down so there's nothing left and I have been on the edge of my seat. The ending just completely left me on edge and I am ABSOLUTELY dreading and yet excited for and unable to wait for the next book which I just know is going to be an absolute explosive bombshell!!
DO NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE FIRST PAGE OF THIS BOOK UNLESS YOU HAVE CLEARED YIUR SCHEDULES AS IT WILL SUCK YOU IN!!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GANGLAND CRIME SERIES YOU CAN SINK YOUR TEETH INTO THIS IS 100% THE BEST SERIES TO START!!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!
I absolutely loved meeting the Drew family again as well as the other characters.. I never thought I would ever get THAT into a gangland crime book but OMG Emma you have completely proven me wrong. The Drew's have become like family and friends to me except for a certain one who I 10000% blame for this and I don't think I've ever actually hated a fictional character as much as I do this one!!!! More to come in a moment. I have also learned Emma's previous books were based on the Tyler family who we also met in this series so I am looking forward to going back to read that series as well as any further books in the Drew family serious. Scarlet is definitely a force to be reckoned with as is Lily and who doesn't love a strong kick @ss female in the crime world!! I was absolutely fascinated by all the businesses that she managed to keep afloat. I also enjoyed reading about what Connor and Cillian got up to and having twins myself it's quite interesting to see how these twins worked. I loved both of their huge and hilarious yet serious when needed personalities and they slightly remind me of the Weasley twins from Harry Potter with their cheeky sides. My heart was absolutely in my throat for a certain character in this book but at the same time Emma I love the uniqueness of what was going on and even the gore and the whole creepy environment.I also had a bit of a soft spot for Ray and really like him. I don't think he deserves the hate he gets from Connor, Cilian or Ruby. I have had several mixed feelings about Ruby since the start of this series, I don't think I've ever had as many mixed feelings about any other character EVER!!! However I can 10000% say she is now my absolutely most hated fictional character ever and if you could hear the names I was calling her it would have absolutely shocked you!! I enjoyed getting to know John more in this book and found him to be such a sweet, caring guy who is undeniably in love with Scarlet. Did I mention I hate Ruby? Every single character was strong and had their own unique personalities and each definitely left an impression on me. Regardless of whether I LOVED them or hated them. (Ruby) they all came together to make this book and also this series exactly what it is and it is perfect the way it is!!!
I am looking forward to reading more of Emma's books and it would be intriguing to see them turned into movies. Emma, congratulations on yet another explosive hit and here's to your next success 🍻!!! This is EXACTLY why you are one of my favourite authors, this is one of my favourite series and the Drew's are definitely my favourite fictional family EVER!!!
Overall a must read, non stop, emotionally and action packed, explosive page turning, gripping and addictive adventure from the underworld that is one not to be missed!!!
Genres covered in this novel include
Thriller, Heist Crime, Crime Thriller, Organised Crime, Mystery, Vigilante Justice, Psychological Fiction, Gangland Crime, Noir Fiction and Crime Thriller amongst others.

Here is an author I can not recommend enough. all her books have been a big 5 star read.......Her Payback by Emma Tallon is the 4 book in the brilliant The Drew Family Series and what a superb book this was, It's a nail-biting and gritty crime thriller that will just have you gripped! like I was again, from the beginning till the end and ended up reading it on my day off.
Her Payback is a perfect title for this latest book.
I highly recommend it . Well, all of Emma's books. I have been a fan from the beginning and just loved all her books. These are a great read for holidays etc or just to get away from everything because once you open her books you are hooked.........Great author.
This is book 4 in the Drew family series and having heard great things about it, I wanted to read what all the fuss was about!
I do have the earlier books in the series on Audible, but haven't had chance to listen to them yet. I definitely think it would have helped to have read the first ones, as it took me some time to get to grips with the characters and their backstories.
That said, the plot was rich in drama and suspense and really reminded me of Caz Finlay's ganland crime books!
Emma Tallon has really put herself on my radar with this book!
Gritty and suspenseful, crime fans will love this series!
This is Book 4 in the Drew Family series, once again we are back with Lil Drew the head of this gangland crime family. Like all the other books in this series I was instantly hooked from the very beginning. This is a fast paced and utterly gripping gangland thriller that I can’t recommend highly enough. Now I eagerly await the next book in this fantastic series. If I could give this book more than. 5 ⭐️ I would.
A solid addition to this series. As I’ve said before, the writing is okay - not close to the best I’ve read BUT great storyline and characters! Def worth the read.
Definitely recommend reading this series in order.
The Drew Family Series Book 4
Scarlet Drew is sailing dangerously close to the wind with her new police detective boyfriend. John. Not everyone agrees with their illicit relationship, but so far they've managed to keep it secret from anyone outside the family. If only her nemesis cousin Ruby, wasn't still hanging around, her life would be perfect.
Lily Drew is keeping a watchful eye on the building tension between Ruby and Scarlet - the last thing she needs is a war breaking out inside the family. But when people start going missing from a local boxing ring with close connections to the Drew's, it puts the family back on the police radar her worst nightmare is realised. It's only a matter of time before the situation takes a dark turn.
The Drew's are back with an even intense storyline. A secret is revealed and the Drew family are torn apart. There's great character development and you'll either love or hate them. This is a fast paced, well written and twist filled read. I was pulled in from the first page. There's lots going on in the book but it's not confusing. This is a fantastic addition to the series. I can't wait to read what the talented Emma Tallon has in store for us next.
I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #EmmaTallon for my ARC of #HerPayback in exchange for an honest review.
