I absolutely loved this series as a kid and can't resist a reread. I actually picked up the whole book after reading this sampler. I love the characters, especially Rose. I definitely think it is time for a reread of the entire series!
This book makes my heart happy.
Mead reimagines Vampires and their enemies in a way I personally have never seen.
Lissa is the last Dragomir and is a Moroi vampire who possesses a unique form of magic. Her best friend and protector, Rose Hathaway are bonded after a tragic accident. Together Rose and Lissa must protect each other from both the Strigoi and an unknown threat.
This book is brimming with action and budding romances. The bond between Rose and Lissa jumps off the page. Its a wonderful YA book!
Thank you Net Galley for the sneak peek into a book series that has sparked joy.
Loved this book when it first came out. The author as well is reallllyyy nice tooo.
The book was hard to put down. Now rereading the series again after couple years.
"Vampire Academy" is a vampire story staple. You cannot search for a vampire-esque fantasy romance without stumbling upon this series. In this book, we follow Rose, a half-vampire and guardian to her best friend and royalty, Lissa. Rose and Lissa ran away from their school, the vampire academy, two years ago but are brought and tossed back into the school to continue living and studying as vampires.
If Richelle Mead has something going for her, it's her ability to capture the reader's attention. This book started grippingly, leaving the reader intrigued and with questions they want to be answered. I'm generally not a massive fan of the early 2000's vampire books since they all seem extremely similar to one another, and contain an excess amount of angst and naivety on the character's parts. This book seems to follow a similar pattern, however, I will say that I found myself curious to know more about the characters in this by the end of the preview since the first couple of chapters introduced the characters well. The sneak peek tells the reader enough to decide whether they would like or dislike the story and whether they should continue. Though stories like this don't always tend to work for me, I was able to make the choice that I would be interested in eventually finishing this book one day because as dated as it is, it is a look into what YA fiction was like in its early stages.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for SNEAK PEEK: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
Love this! Richelle Mead is one of my favorite authors and all of her books pull you in and leave you wanting more. This was a reread and now I'm definitely going to have to read the rest of the books! Can't wait to relive this wonderful series!
I really loved this Sneak Peak.
I watched the movie a while back and really thought about reading the book. But due to the fact, that this book was quite popular a few years back and never interested me before watching the movie, I was a little hesistant.
After reading this this Sneak Peak I at least want to try reading the whole book and I am quite sure about me liking the Vampire Academy Series.
This is one of my all-time favorite YA novels!
I first read it in the late 2000s and keep coming back to it even all these years later.
This is a beautiful story of female friendship with a unique vampire lore and magic as well as swoony romance and great action.
The series technically does have a relationship with a legal minor (the female main character is just shy of 18 when romance stuff begins) and is involved with her mentor so be aware of that.
I am very excited to see how the new TV show turnes out!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for SNEAK PEEK: Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.
This has been a series that I have loved for a long time now. I first listened to it many years ago and am excited to see more hype around it with the new series coming out.
Rose Hathaway is a dhampir, a half-blood vampire who is destined to be a guardian for a Moroi vampire, one of the royalty and rulers for her kind. Her best friend Vasalisa Dragomir and her have run away from school but are dragged back after being on the run for two years and are thrown back into the high school like setting where students are actually royalty and half the population drinks blood regularly. Along with regular catty behaviour Lissa and Rose have to deal with the possibility that something is happening to Lissa and someone is after her.
This sneak peek has done nothing except make me want to pick up/listen to these stories again while I wait for the series to come out. While I am in the minority I did enjoy the movie version of this and thought it was funny, but I hadn't read the books first and am aware that they are definitely better. My hope is that the tv series is going to follow what happens in the books better than the movie did.
I am definitely excited for both rereading this series and the tv show to premier too!
I can say it's definitely like Twilight or the Sookie Stackhouse series (which are my main references here), but it is a teenage-vampire-romance book. I liked that the romance is real and believable (and Rose can be really visual in her narrations), the politics and bureaucracy is explained throughout the book, but most of the story didn't make me want to keep reading it.
Some characters are indeed interesting and I'd like to read more about them but for now I'm a bit disappointed in a general way. I expected way more from a series loved by millions so... That's that.
I have read this book quite some time ago but I did like it. I found it entertaining and I loved the writing.
Now I want to reread the entire series again because it was one of my favourite YA series.
Vampire Academy, in my very honest opinion, is a solid series that will continue to hold up even as years go on. This sampler is only a few chapters long, but it already sets up Rose's strong-headed personality. Vampires (or supernatural creatures in general) having a school for themselves is not a new trope, but it is still a very well written story. The plot gets more interesting as you continue to read. I can see why some people may not like Rose. She's strong but arrogant, and she acts before she thinks. However, she truly has a huge character arc and I really appreciated that about this book (and series).
Rose is the og rebel with a heart of gold. She is loyal to a fault, resilient as shit, and just all around incredible. I will never pass up an opportunity to return to this world!
Thank you to NetGalley and the Penguin Group for this sneak peek.
I throughly enjoyed this sneak peak of Vampire Academy. It was around 4 chapters long and was a great hook for both the rest of this book and the series.
I really liked the differing personalities of Rose and Lissa and would love to read more about them and their connection.
I really enjoyed this sneak peak, and will definitely get the rest of the books in the series. Thank you for providing this.
Vampire Academy was a book I absolutely adore, this was peak 2000's vampire YA literature. I have read the full series multiple times and appreciate that the first book really provides you with a great start to the series as we are introduced to our two main characters Rose and Lissa. The story has fantastic world building that sucks you in, as well as really interesting character dynamics.
I received a copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
I receibed a copy of Vampire Academy (SNEEK PEAK VERSION) which contained the first few chapters (64 pages) which gave me a good feel for the book. I've always wanted to read these but I think they may be a little dated for me now from the vibe I got from the first few chapters. I may still give book one a go at some point and see where it goes.
Honestly, I feel that this book had way more potential. I started reading it because the hype got the better of me and seriously, I'm a sucker for some vampire romance.
But by the time I was halfway through the book, I couldn't help the disappointment that comes from a story not-very-well-delivered.
I found it to be immature and it had a sloppy plot.
I was able to finish it but I can't really say this is an excellent book, or maybe it just wasn't for me at all.
The beginning of the book hooks you in from the start. Richelle does an excellent job at providing background information and we get a great sense of Rose, the main character, and the story in this sneak peek. The sneak peek will make you want to read the rest of the books, and they won't disappoint you. The start of the series is strong, nd it ends strong as well. I 100 percent recommend. A slow burn, vampire love story with plenty of badassery, combat, friendships, life lessons, and emotional moments. It is not a superficial vampire novel--it kicks butt and takes names.
(FYI, I am a firm lover of this series).
It was so fun to return to the Vampire Academy series! I remember reading this back in the day but clearly it is time for a reread. Rose and Lissa remain one of my favorite duos and Dimitri is just as I remember him. The Vampire Academy series is a classic for a reason and if you're a fan of vampires I highly recommend you check it out (if you haven’t already)! Thank you to Richelle Mead, Razorbill, and Netgalley for a free sneak peek in exchange for honest feedback.
Pure 2000s YA Vampire goodness.
Given how up my alley this would've been when it came out, it's honestly surprising I never actually picked up this series before now.
Vampire Academy is a staple of it's era, with delicious teen drama, lust for blood, and enduring friendships.
