What a pleasure it was to read this Sneak Peak of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. Her world of vampires with elemental powers was entirely engaging and I look forward to finishing this one on my own.

I originally read this book years ago and seeing the sneak peek available on Netgalley prompted me to try it out and see how it holds up in 2022. I actually found myself really enjoying it, the writing is as good as I remember it being and the characters are definitely intriguing. It makes me want to go out and read the series again!

After reading the first chapter, I rushed to find a full copy of this book.

This preview introduces us to two teen vampires- one royalty and the other her protector- who are on the run from the life they grew up in. Very quickly, the two are captured and brought home to confront those that they left behind, as well as a host of secrets and mysteries.

From what I’ve seen, this book is cheesy; but it’s a YA vampire story, so cheesy is sort of what you signed up for. If you lean in to the bad teenage pickup line and 2000s references, I think you’ll have a lot of fun mixed in with the tension of the more thrilling parts.

This story also had an interesting vampire typology that I wasn’t familiar with, so I had to do some googling to clarify definitions and explanations of the classification system. I think a page at the beginning or appendix would have been helpful (perhaps the full-length book has one).

My biggest issue with this excerpt is that there’s a lot of sexist and derogatory language directed at teenage girls, especially by other girls. Perhaps it’s a sign of the times and the way our society used to accept such unnecessary oppression of women, but it definitely leaves a bad taste in my mouth. My hope is that, as I keep reading, the characters come to understand the harm in perpetuating misogyny or at least start to change in ways that cut down on this anti-woman sentiment.

Vampire Academy follows the story of Rose and Lissa as they navigate the world of vampires, love, and adventure. I first read this book years ago (like 10 years ago) and it has remained one that I still pick up every so often. It inspired me to start reading again and I highly recommend it. The perfect read if you crave a book about friendships, love and the true meaning of friends looking out for each other.

Ook, It was just a sneak peek but I LIKED IT, and now I want more. Bond, alive vampires and dead vampires, guardians... A very good mix!

Thank you for this sneak peek! I've had this book on my tbr for ages, but I've never picked it up, and when I saw this sneak peek available I definitely wanted to check it out. It was super fun and I never felt confused by the world-building while reading. It's also pretty fast-paced which I enjoyed! I can see myself really enjoying the full book and I'm gonna try and pick it up soon after reading this.

Omg this brings me back! This was literally one of the first books I ever read and I absolutely love it still. It hasn't ages well but it's the type of nostalgia read that you revisit when you feel down to when you want to see how far things have come 🥺 I'm in awe of how much I love this series still and now I really do want to reread it.

my thanks to net galley and the publisher for this digital ARC excerpt in exchange for my honest review.

I was excited to get this excerpt. I've seen this series but I've never read it before. This was only a few chapter excerpt so I can only comment on that.

This definitely started by dropping us right into the narrative, in media res as it were. I"m intrigued by the vampire school setting and the relationship between vampires and their protectors, as well as those who threaten them. I'm sure much more will be explained as the story progresses but the start certainly left me with a lot of questions!

That being said I wasn't drawn into this story as I expected to be. I did not find the main character's voice engaging. It may simply be that this book is not for me or that I didn't get enough chapters to warm to the main character.

I might give the whole book a try sometime, to see if it's just the short excerpt format or if it's the story as a whole.

Wow! I'd heard a great deal about this series but never got around to reading them. I'm sorry I waited so long but am elated to have gotten this sample from NetGalley! I'll be moving these to the top of my tbr list & letting myself be engulfed in the world of the Moroi, Strigoi, & the Vampire Academy!

This was an enjoyable sneak peak of Vampire Academy. A school for vampires? I'm in! I'm definitely intrigued by the premise and look forward to reading the rest of the book to get more of the world-building and hopefully some romance!

Ive been wanting to read this series for a while so was excited when I saw an excerpt was up to review. I enjoyed these few chapters and felt like it gave a good start to the book. I enjoyed the characters and the world building. I feel like it would take a little more to really get into the story but so far I'm liking what I've read. I think this series would appear to fans of Twilight or similar. I liked the fact that the guardian was a female and their relationship seemed like the most interesting part so far. I'd be keen to read more if a full review copy was made available.

I've heard this is becoming a new show again but produced(?) by Julie Plec who did Vampire Diaries and I love that show and the Originals. I've never read these books although I do physically own them! Reading this sneak peak got me excited to actually sit down and read them all before the show comes out so I can be fully immersed in the story.

I Have never read this book before, or heard of it, but I definitely will be now! It is a fast paced book, which I love, and drops you into an immersive universe of Vampires, and explains it well in little time, but it also doesn't leave out information. You get a solid list of what this world is like and what's going on, but new details still come up and surprise you. Fun and spunky characters that were a joy to read! :)
