Super cute and super spicy. I love how both main characters are a realistic size. Both are totally relatable too. I love the amount of spice in this book, just the right amount. The story flows well, and the characters do make growth throughout . I enjoyed this very much!
Thank you to Olivia Dade, the publisher, and to Netgalley for this arc in exchange for my honest opinion!
After reading Olivia Dade’s first two book in the Spolier Alert series, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Ship Wrecked. It follows the same formula of fat-positive romantic comedy that Olivia does so well.
The story follows Maria and Peter, who are costars on a TV show. A spicy night together causes all kinds of drama and tension.
I had so much fun reading this book, and I hope Olivia Dade has more in store for this series.
I’m in a bit of a book hangover from Ship Wrecked! It had all my favorite elements of a great angsty romance - slow burn tension, the push and pull of strong characters learning to be more vulnerable, and of course, the steam.
This book is spicy! It’s door-wide-open from page one so you’ll know right away if you can handle it. 🔥 This one feels even steamier than the last two books of hers I read, but maybe I’d just forgotten the deliciousness that is an Olivia Dade romance. You know I’m here for the sexy times! 🔥🔥🔥
Ship Wrecked was also really funny. The Gods of the Gates cast chat had me laughing and the jar of pickled herring kept cracking me up the entire book. Iykyk! Dade writes fantastic banter, something that I’ve loved in all 3 books in this series.
It was fun to have the characters from the first two books weave in and out of the story and I loved the scenes where all 3 books in the series intersect. It’s really clever writing to tell the same scene from 3 different books/multiple characters’ perspectives!
Dade continues the theme of body positivity in this book. One of the goals of main character Maria is an insistence on having fat characters in every story, with a plot that doesn’t revolve around their size. Having body types of every shape and size written into every book is long overdue.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series!
the cover?: SO CUTE
the FMC: Maria- confident, amazing, sure of herself
the MMC: Peter- shy hottie with amazing character growth
POV: 3rd person dual perspective
HEA: yes!
spice: spicy/steamy- on par with the other Spoiler Alert series. there are several open door spicy scenes and plenty of pining throughout the story
TWs: loss of parent, divorce (not the MCs), cheating (not the MCs)
standalone?: while this is book 3 of the Spoiler Alert series i do think this could be read as a standalone with only minor confusion at a few small points
i love the way the Spoiler Alert series has a dual perspective, text exchanges, email conversations, and fanfic snippets- it's such an immersive read
i love that the FMC Maria was unapologetically herself throughout the entire book. while there wasn't necessarily what i would consider "character growth" for her i thought we were introduced to her already fully grown. she's hot, she knows it, and she is never not confident in her size which is so refreshing when reading about any plus size characters
the MMC Peter had so much character growth throughout the story both personally and romantically and it made the story believable
I love Olivia Dade and all of her work! This might be my favorite hero yet, though it's obviously low on plot. I love the internal conflict and the confidence of the heroine. Another great story, no notes!
I read this book in fits and spurts over the course of weeks, which indicates the trouble I had engaging with what could have been a one-Saturday binge-read. I liked it, but it wasn't grabbing me and not letting me go. Maria felt really refreshing as a main character but her and Peter's differences were explained so clearly and so frequently that I could see the third-act fight coming a mile away and it felt so inevitable and predictable. I did like seeing two people talk (eventually) about what they want and need from the relationship and compromise to make it work! It just fell flat for me.
I loved this book! The scene and character work with Maria and Peter was simply amazing.
What I loved: The tension, spice and plot were all there for me with the exception of (see below.)
What I didn't love: The points that were keeping Peter and Maria from their HEA didn't quite work out for me, and having their romance take place in the timeline of the other two books in this series also took me out of it a little bit as well.
Thank you for the ARC!
I love Olivia Dade and how she crafts her characters and stories! This one did not disappoint!
I loved Maria and her confidence. Her and Peter are adorable together. Maria brings out the soft, open side of Peter while he helps bring a balance to Maria’s bold presence. It’s a lovers to enemies to lovers trope that brings the heat and the heart!
Thank you NetGalley!
I mean what can i say, it is Olivia Dade we are talking about! It did not disappoint. I loved everything about this. Representation made me tear up a few times. I loved the grumpy hero.
One of my faves of the year!
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC.
I loved Olivia Dade's first two in this series, they were fun and cheesy and kept me smiling. From the start this one was different for me. I just did not enjoy the romance, nor did I ever really find myself wanting to pick it up and continue. Not my favorite of hers by far.
This book drew me in immediately, and it was easy to get invested in the story. I love a co-stars dynamic, and this one had all sorts of ~tension~ and great banter going for it! I liked the extremely specific and unique setting, and I enjoyed learning a bit about Swedish culture through Maria's character and her family, too.
Overall, this was a good intro to this author for me, and it made me want to go pick up more of her books!
I read this as an e-book, which was provided by NetGalley and Edelweiss for review.
I will always be an Olivia Dade fan and this book was no exception. I am so appreciative of others who have plus size representation. Also, hot viking? SIGN ME UP. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the couple.
I am always delighted to get a book from Olivia Dade. I know that I will be entertained and left feeling good after reading. I also love that Olivia breaks the cookie cutter mode for her leading ladies!
Ship Wrecked was totally laugh out loud hilarious! But with saying that don't be fooled peeps this book is STEAMY!!! Maria and Peter were super cute and so funny together. Olivia had me cheering for them.
For some reason I keep coming back to Olivia Dade even though I am consistently left underwhelmed - her books are good not great, so close to being great. I love the idea here, the dynamic of lovers to enemies to friends to lovers, but it fell flat here in large part because we didn't spend enough time in any of them and too much time in the final lovers phase wherein a lot of nothing happened. Female lead was a dream, male lead was a whole lot of blah who didn't deserve her.
Thank you to Avon Books and Netgalley for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review!
It took me forever to finish this one, but I still think it’s my favorite of the series so far. Maria and Peter’s relationship felt very organic. While I thought the book was unnecessarily long and I didn’t love that the obstacles between the two were self-imposed, the characters were well developed and the spice level was high. There’s a lot to love about this book!
(Even with this being part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand alone. Just know that the characters from the first two novels make small appearances in this book, which could spoil those endings for you.)
I always like Olivia Dade so not surprised I liked this one too. I love to see plus size representation in romance novels especially.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I love Maria and Peter, they were funny and super cute together. I liked how they stood up for each other and didn't allow the producers to starve them in order for them to lose weight. The overall plot was good, but it was disappointing they didn't get a HEA.
I loved this story of 2 actors shooting a very popular TV show away from the main cast. It’s just the two of them, Peter and Maria, playing characters who have to survive on the island alone. They work together for six years and and are insanely attracted to each other, but it’s not until the very end that their chemistry explodes!
I loved the characters and their interaction with the rest of the show characters, and their relationship ups and downs are well done. 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
I haven’t read this yet HOWEVER, I do have the physical copy and plan on reading it this month. I have loved everything by Olivia Dade to date so I have high hopes for it!
Nope, just no. The cover said I'm going to be a fluffy romance weekend read. It was, but I intensely disliked it. I found the writing to be hurried and the storyline to be unoriginal. The characters who usually are well developed in her writing didn't feel fleshed out to the degree they should have been and the spice was lackluster.
