When I say that Maria and Peter reminded me of Nina and Matthias from Six of Crows, I literally cannot give a bigger compliment than that. Maria is snarky and self-assured like Nina is and I love her so much. And Peter is, at first, kind of an antisocial–but lovable–oaf and he only gets more lovable as the story goes on. I can't wait to read more of Olivia Dade's work. I'm hoping for a book about Carah or Summer next. But not Ian. Frick that guy.

I am not really one for insta love, but I actually thought this was super cute. I thought the romance was fun, and I genuinely cared about both of them together but also separately.
This book is the definition of capturing my attention from the first line. Like wow, I want all my romance books to start the way this one did. The romance, while instant, did take the whole book to build fully. I thought the spice was well done throughout the book and the chemistry between the characters was great.
I enjoyed that we learned about the past of each character throughout the book, and it wasn’t all dumped in one moment, and each character really had their own time to shine.
I do think the pacing was off at times, and overall I felt that the book was too long for what was included. I usually love super long romance books, but because the character's feelings for each other were so instant I just didn’t see a need for a lot of the book.
Overall I had a really fun time reading this book and as one of my most anticipated reads of the year, it did not disappoint.
Super cute! I love the Author and her books so not disappoint ever. I use these as a good palette cleanser for a heavy book, I will be buying this
Thank you Avon Books and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is definitely a hard review to write because this might be my least favorite Olivia Dade book. That being said almost all her other books have been 5 star reads for me so it does have to be approached with that perspective in mind.
Ship Wrecked follows Maria and Peter after what they thought would be a one night stand together, thinking they would never see each other again. The very next day they meet again at an audition that results in them spending the next years filming together on a desolate island in Ireland where they have to deal their undeniable sexual tension and professional challenges.
There was a lot I did love about this book like the discussion around fatphobia in the entertainment industry, Maria's earnestness, Peter's determination, and the overall plot.
Unfortunately so much of that was overshadowed by the fact that nothing felt grounded. The dialogue did so much over explaining that it was repetitive at times. All the characters felt one dimensional and almost like caricature of themselves. Maria was so exceedingly quirky that she didn't feel real and Peter was grumpy to the point where it was hard to understand what Maria saw in him, especially when they spent so much of the book miscommunicating to the absolute extreme. Even the characters from the past books, especially Alex, were reduced to their most surface levels of themselves. I also just couldn't get past so many of the inaccuracies in the filming process.
All of this being said so many of my issues with the book come from my high expectations when reading a book from Olivia Dade. As mentioned earlier I did absolutely love the whole discussion around fatphobia in the film industry and how differently it affects men and women. I loved to see how certain insecurities manifested so differently in both Maria and Peter and how they had to deal with them if they wanted any chance to be together. And there was a really lovely chosen family aspect to the story as well.
Despite it not being my favorite, Ship Wrecked was still an overall enjoyable read filled with lots of spice and a slow burn romance.
I feel like giving this a 3 is mean because it’s more like a 3.5 but in comparison the the other Spoiler Alert books I felt this was my least favorite. The pacing was a little hard since there are huge time jumps and I would have liked to see Peter and Maria’s friendship become what it was. I didn’t mind the instant connection they had I just felt there was a space to really dive into that a little more. I really enjoyed how everyone came together though at the end and it made me wonder if we will have more in this series (like Carrah!).
If you like Olivia Dade’s writing, she for sure doesn’t disappoint and you can expect the same steaminess and climax/conflict break up scene. So still very well done and I want more! Just not my fav of all of them.
I have been dying to read this since I saw the cover on Olivia Dade's twitter. The opening pages were crazy steamy if you know what I mean. Lucky for me it just kept getting better and better.
My hat's off to Olivia Dade. I will forever be a fan of her work for such a well drawn out character in Maria. The true adult body rep in this novel is outstanding.
Also, I can't complain about the sexy times. They are too spicy to put into words yet somehow she does.
Olivia Dade's mastery of the contemporary romance is unmatched. She uses ever form of modern communication in her story in ways that don't distract from the overal plot.
This was the perfect way to send off the Spoiler Alert book series. Highly, like Mount Everest, highly recommend.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the opportunity to read an advanced copy!
This was one of my most highly anticipated releases of 2022, and I'm so glad I given this eARC! This was such a fun and lighthearted read. I'm so grateful for having received the opportunity to read, and I really did enjoy this book.
I really enjoyed the characters and the representation in this book. The length of time of Peter and Maria's relationship was something different than most romances I've read lately, but I really enjoyed that aspect. I did enjoy their chemistry, but I did feel like they feel in love a little too quickly which led the pacing to feel a little drawn out. Overall, I did enjoy their romance. but it felt like it took a long time to reach the catalyst of their relationship.
I rather enjoyed the ending, and the epilogue was a really nice way to wrap it up. It was also really fun to get to see the past couples again and see how they were all doing.
I definitely enjoyed this book, and it absolutely is a recommendation for anyone who wants to read a beautiful romance!
Overall Rating: 4.5/5
I was so excited to read this book because of the cover and summary. I was a bit disappointed after reading it because I really liked the first 40-45% of the book, after that there were many time jumps and i didn't like that. I wanted to see them falling for each other and their characters being developed during the span of 6 years but time jumps ruined it for me.
Things that I liked-
-How Maria refused to compromise her weight.
-Maria's family
-refreshing concept
-COVER!!
Thank you Netgalley for the arc in exchange of honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the opportunity to read an advanced copy and give my honest review!
I was so excited for this one. I think it’s probably my second favorite after Spoiler Alert. I loved the chemistry and the connection between Peter and Maria. I loved that their relationship spanned over such a significant period of time too. I feel like most books rush into them falling in love but this was such a slow yet sweet burn.
I loved that we got to see their connection to the rest of the case - especially Alex 😂 he’s always a hoot to read about!
Definitely recommend 🥰
Ship Wrecked Review
This was a great read. I was so pumped to get the chance to read it and I truly loved it so much. I think it was a great look into the different priorities people have to feel content and how it impacts relationships.
I did think it was a super slow read— we got a lot of the couple together for so long before we got to the conflict so I felt like I spent a decent amount of their romance waiting for the other shoe to drop because they were happy so early on in the book lol.
I did love this ending though, it wrapped up this book really nicely as well as the series. It was so nice to see how the couples from the other books turned out in the end.
Thank you Netgalley and Avon and Harper for the opportunity to review! All thoughts are my own!
I loved the fat rep in this book! Both main characters were so comfortable in their bodies and unapologetic Malloy so, especially our herione. The humor was spot-on and had me laughing out loud many times. The slow-burn friends to lovers and forced proximity of it were so well done. An excellent addition to the Spoiler Alert universe.
This was book three in this series by Olivia Dade. I liked it but maybe not as much as book two. It is really interesting how each of the books takes place in the same timeframe as the others and how the storylines overlap and combine to create underlying interest. I loved seeing how previous characters storylines fit into this one. Dade does an excellent job of drawing you into the story and not letting go. I had a terrible time putting this book down and couldn't wait for the twist I knew would be coming. The setting for these books is so interesting (being based on actors in a particular tv show) it is fun to see this other world and the other side of things like cons and press interviews. I'm interested to see which characters she chooses to follow next.
I really enjoyed this book. I hope the author continues to write more books in the future. I can't wait to see what the author releases in the future.
Ship Wrecked by Olivia Dade
I started this book not realizing it was the third book of the Spoiler Alert series. I immediately purchased the prior two books. I read some reviews that said I didn’t have to read the previous ones to understand what is going on in this book, but my OCD didn’t allow me not to purchase. This was my first book by the author, by it’s definitely not going to be the last. I really enjoyed this book, and can’t wait to read the others. It’s a super cute rom-com, with plenty laugh out loud and make you smile moments. There’s plenty of banter and a few steamy moments to keep you reading. Both main characters are overweight, and are happy as is and in their own skin. How refreshing is that? I love the body positivity message.
Many thanks to Olivia Dade, NetGalley, and Avon and Harper Voyager for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
I received an advanced reader copy of Ship Wrecked from Netgalley.
This is a spicy rom-com about two co-stars on a Game of Thrones-like show who have a one-night stand just before landing their big roles. Let's just say, it's a rocky start for these two. Ultimately, they decide a friendship would be best, so that's what they attempt for six years. 6 years! Talk about a slow burn.
Even though this is in the Spoiler Alert series, this is technically a stand-alone book. Marie and Peter are somewhat separate from their castmates in the other books because they film on a remote island. I do think reading the other books could provide good context for the other characters, but their long-distance co-stars are tertiary characters at best, so it's not necessary.
I loved the slow burn of this story, so my only complaint is that we didn't spend MORE time exploring their friendship (and tension) in those six years on set. I felt Peter's longing and heartache, and I loved every moment of it.
Peter and Maria are both plus-sized and part of the story does address some of the realistic struggles in Hollywood around this. This wasn't just peppered in for show, it really affected the characters and their relationship trajectory because of the way they handled it differently.
Also, I enjoyed the way the author layered in various media between chapters (text messages, fan fic, emails, scripts, and more). Very cool.
Read this if you're in the mood for:
-celebrity/Hollywood romance
-slow burn
-spicy romance
-coworker romance
-plus size representation
So I haven’t read any of the other books in this series (they’re on my TBR list) but I didn’t feel like I was missing any vital information. The burn that started out then turned into a slow burn for six years. When they finally got together, it just happened so fast. Peter and Maria were quite the characters. I enjoyed their relationship. I also loved all the Michigan cheese/dairy/Culver’s references (as a good midwesterner, I love my cheese, especially fried with ranch!) Overall a great story but it drag at times.
This book was such a fun and steamy read. This book starts out mid-hookup with the two main characters and I knew I was going to instantly love it. I loved how much this author made me fall in love with the two main characters right off the bat, while LOVING the anger Peter had towards Maria because of her pulling the hook up and disappearing act on him. I cheered for him, I cheered for her. I wanted them to hate each other and then find their own ways to heal and grow as a real couple to reach their HEA.
Maria is my new favorite FMC because she was so confident, sassy, quirky, while still having such a big heart and soft center for the people she loved. I found myself often thinking that Peter wasn’t good enough for Maria, but also feeling so giddy during all their scenes, as co-workers and as love interests. They both had their own past hurts they had to deal with, and I loved that the author didn’t make Peter some Prince Charming that needed to save Maria. Maria saved herself by acknowledging that she also had her out faults and demons to work through to make their relationship work. The ending was adorable and cheesy and made me feel all the happy feelings after so much up and down during this whole book.
Rating this book a 4.5, just because it was hard to follow during certain points. It was hard to tell which POV I was reading from and the timeline felt a little all over the place.
Thank you NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for an ARC of this book. This book is set to release on November 15, 2022.
I’ve been sitting here for a few days trying to get my thoughts together about this book. I wanted to come up with the perfect words to describe such a perfect book but I know how impossible that is so I’ll just say it. Ship Wrecked was absolutely amazing in so many ways. I’m not surprised, though, when the other novels in the series won me over instantly as well. I was captivated from the beginning and didn’t want it to end when I came upon the last page. I didn’t want to let go of the characters and I’m hoping there will be another installment so we can at least get a brief glimpse of them.
Dade does an extraordinary job of weaving this story over six years. SIX YEARS! That’s six years of friendship, love, lust not acted upon. And it works out seamlessly. I loved Maria’s confidence and self love, such a heroine! And let’s not forget the refusal to shave—girl, you truly are a superhero to give it to the showrunners like that. I’m proud of you girl! And a hero that isn’t actually perfectly sculpted and nothing but muscles?! Peter you are still perfect with your muscles beneath the bulk and softness.
I loved the relationship between Maria and Peter and how they did things for each other from the very beginning. I will admit I was kinda hoping for a story where it was more the heroine’s fault that things went wrong and it seemed like it might go that way in the beginning but it didn’t. I’m not disappointed by any means though I definitely thought it could’ve been a good time to explore it. BUT I was not letting that even mess with my star rating because that’s just a preference of mine and had nothing to do with the actual story and how it was told.
Anyway, it was great and I loved it as I knew I would! Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was everything I wanted it to be. It had me turned pages without even realizing. It was so good!
Ship Wrecked just further cemented my love for the Spoiler Alert series. The main characters, Maria and Peter, have so much chemistry—both on-screen and off—and their journey from one-night fling to friends to lovers also shows them both learning how to trust and communicate in new ways.
I really enjoyed this book, but I was definitely disappointed with the placement of a few crucial time jumps. For instance, thanks to a massive leap near the start of the book, the reader doesn’t get much insight on about six years’ worth of slow burn. Still, even though I would have loved to see more of their friendship growing before sparks were really flying, I had such a great time revisiting the Gods of the Gates cast, and this trilogy is ending on a fantastic note.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
