I was so excited to receive this ARC because I've read or listened to Spoiler Alert and All the Feels. I loved the idea of the characters of Peter and Maria, Maria was a wonderfully done character who was well developed and so strong. I really enjoyed her. I wanted to know more about Peter. I took us literally six years to learn anything about his back story. I'm not kidding. It was a mess. There could have been more or less or the filming, It just felt oddly paced.
I had to DNF at the conflict, it felt really like a forced fight because there was no way that they couldn't see something like that coming. How could they NOT see something like that coming in their relationship AT SOME POINT when they have the careers they do???
It was a bit ridiculous. Anyways I can't believe I had to DNF at 80% I'm heartbroken and it's not what I was looking for in this book.
Okay, okay. You need to read this book. I loved this book from the first page. I will say I thought there would be more sex based on the beginning; however, the spicy scenes were so good. The book had body positive main characters which I really liked. The author did a great job with the body inclusivity. The book did feel a little long towards the end but overall I really enjoyed this book! I will be adding the author’s other books to me TBR list.
I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
This book follows Maria, a bad ass actress from Sweden, who has a one night stand with Peter, a introverted actor from Wisconsin. After their one night stand they are both casted to play roles in a hit show “Gods of the Gates” (similar to game of thrones). They are enemies at first but eventually become friends despite their insane attraction to one another.
Maria is a plus sized girl with a lot of sass, who doesn’t take shit from anyone. She promotes body positivity and refuses to shave. She is just a total feminist and I love her. It took awhile for me to warm up to Peter. I didn’t understand him and thought he was a jerk. I actually ended up really liking and relating to him. I really liked this book my only complaint is things moved pretty slow and the time line was hard to follow sometimes.
3/5⭐️ this book does contain fat shaming please check tw!!
Costars Maria and Peter have undeniable chemistry and after a one night stand before either landed their roles, the tension is palpable. However when they get to their location to shoot their scene for the Gods of the Gates show, they’re perfect professionals. Through the 6 years they work together they form a friendship and Maria helps Peter out of his shell. 6 years of pining away for each other surfaces quickly when the show finally ends and now they navigate what they mean to one another. Will their broken pasts keep them from being truly happy together or can they depend on each other to help them grow?
This was awesome! Plus size MCs as a COUPLE?! This brought warmth to my heart as they dealt with real deal adult issues and find ways to heal themselves and each other. Loved this
So this cover is gorgeous. Having never read any of the Spoiler Alert series, the cover was the main reason for choosing this book...that along with the description of Maria's one-night-stand, "the thick-thighed, sexy Viking of a man" YES PLEASE. The book started out especially steamy and I loved every second of it. Also, the setting couldn't get any better...a remote Irish island.
I struggled with the fact that there was almost nothing going on. I noticed I was getting bored throughout the book because nothing happened except for their filming on the island together. I also had no real attachment to any of the characters and it was very upsetting. I wanted to love Peter and Maria so much but even at the end of the book I still didn't know who they really were. There were a few times where I felt the book jumped ahead in time and I couldn't keep track.
There were many different things I liked and disliked about this book. It hasn't put me off the author though and I will continue reading books from this author.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thanks to Avon Books for the e-publicity copy of SHIP WRECKED by Olivia Dade, expected pub date November 15 2022.
Y'all if you already love Olivia Dade, then you'll know exactly what to expect in this romance. and if you don't, then you can easily start with SHIP WRECKED for humor, steamy romance, witty banter, and full-out body positivity (which comes through so strongly in this book).
I fully enjoyed reading SHIP WRECKED on my way home from our Ireland trip, especially when reading and I started thinking about how it reminded me of the Aran Islands and then the acknowledgements stated it outright.
Definitely add this swoon-worthy romance to your fall/winter TBR for a perfect escape.
I honestly could not for the life of me get into this book. I was so excited to receive the ARC because I really enjoyed Spoiler Alert and All the Feels, but this one fell incredibly short to me. I was not invested in either of these characters AT ALL. I didn’t even like them much. And while I like the concept of a fling to enemies to friends to lovers, I feel like this was so rushed and unbelievable and I found myself really skimming and skipping pages just to finish it. I really didn’t enjoy this one, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that Olivia Dade is a must read author for me.
This book was good! I received an Arc Copy and I was actually really impressed with the book overall. The only thing that made it a three was the characters and their penchant to return to old habits, IE seeking acceptance etc.
This book is funny and features a great storyline. There is tension all throughout and it is the oh so sweet kind. I would overall recommend this one.
This is absolutely my favorite of all of the Spoiler Alert books! I absolutely adore the way that Olivia Dade writes fat bodies-we are sorely lacking in REAL representation in romance novels. Someone with a large chest but a small waist is NOT what we are looking for-but I digress. I was so excited when I realized that not only were we getting a fat female main character, but finally a male one as well! The intensity of Maria and Peter's chemistry did not disappoint and as usual, Olivia Dade writes some of the greatest spicy scenes. Beyond the spice and representation we also were treated to a bevy of hilarious moments with the Gods of the Gates cast and truly in depth character development. This book truly had me laughing out loud at multiple moments but also completely falling in love with both MCs. I think this is the best of the series and I highly recommend you pick it up.
Thanks to NetGalley and Avon for this amazing ARC!
This series of books just draw me in. I have loved all of them and want more. Please give me more. of this book and series. I am a total fan of Olivia Dade.
Gah. I just loved Maria and Peter. Maybe it is because I grew up reading fanfiction but, Olivia Dade’s characters just hit a sweet spot for me. Love the themes and topics that touches on with humor and grace. Another winner.
I wonder if the Game of Thrones showrunners know that the best thing, by several orders of magnitude, to come out of their efforts is a series of fandom based meta romance novels that just rip them to shreds?
What can I even say, 12/10, it's hot, it's fun, it's funny, great characters, I have no notes, just go read it.
Olivia Dade is one of the best romance writers out there and I was THRILLED to get an ARC.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Ship Wrecked by Olivia Dade
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🌶
I was given the opportunity to read an ARC of Ship Wrecked by @netgalley ☺️
There were several things I loved about this book which were plus size main characters, body positivity, and funny banter. I loved the idea of this book being on the set of a tv show and how she broke up chapters by throwing in cute things like text conversations, interviews, etc…
That being said, the things I struggled with were the fact that this is a slow-burn and nothing really happens until halfway through the book. I mean, this book takes place over 6 full years, so the slow burn is there! The second thing I had a tough time with was that there was so much internal dialogue. I feel like Maria and Peter never really talked which caused me to not connect with them very well. I couldn’t get into their love story and I was really upset about that because I know I could have if they only had more dialogue with each other. I also found out this book is part of a series, although I got through this book just fine without reading the other two! So I think it’d be okay to say this can be read as a stand alone.
This was the first book I’ve read by this author, so I don’t know if it was this book in particular or if it’s her writing style that I struggled with.
I think people will really love this book! Sadly, it just wasn’t for me ☹️
Maybe I shouldn't have started with the third book in the series. Maybe I should understand fandoms a little better. Maybe this book just didn't work for me. I can definitely name patrons and friends who would like this book and this series, though!
This romantic comedy reads like watching a television series with flashbacks and fast forwards. Very different reading experience but enjoyable! Maria and Peter have an incredible one-night stand before finding out they've both been cast in a years-long tv series. Misunderstandings and comedic banter manage to soothe hurt feelings and their friendship builds, maybe into something more? Both characters have issues from their pasts that prevent them from seeing their own goals and desires, but with strong character growth and supportive friends, they're rocky beginning "should" build into a Happily Ever After...
#ShipWrecked #NetGalley
Hilarious and heartfelt. Olivia Dade is a master of blending hilarious dialogue with deeply touching moments of vulnerability. Maria and Peter are an incredibly fun couple who have obstacle after obstacle thrown in their way but find a way to be together all while bickering and bantering.
I loved this book and will be looking forward to ore from Dade.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
This is the third book in the series, while their are spoilers for earlier books it can be read entirely as a standalone
CW: toxic workplace, fat phobia, death of parent(s) (past), grief, toxic relationship with a parent, adoption (adoption story recounted including foster care placement), cheating (;non-MCs)
I would recommend if you're looking for (SPOILERS)
-m/f one night stand
-work place romance
-celebrity romance
-amazing fat rep
-spectacular banter
-lovers to friends/idiots to lovers
-stuck on a small island together
-all the different colors of family including found family
I love this book. Honestly, I could not put it down and it just did not dissapont. Olivia Dade is such a talent. This book had me cackling with all of the winks at the fanfiction (is anyone else more talented at writing an intestational that somehow is hilarious and drives the plot forward. the answer is no), the heavy topics, adoption representation, the fat rep. Just chef's kiss. This book wrecked me in the best way.
Seriously this book has a hot one night stand and then turns into the best slow burn of sexual chemistry and yearning. The banter between Maria and Peter. Both of them growing throughout the book, and growing together. Maria was strong, knew what she wanted, and not here for anyone's crap (or fear of cows IYKYK). I loved how confident she was, in her body, in her acting skills, in what she wanted out of life and her ability to just grab it.
And Peter. Gosh that poor yearning man I wanted to hug him, but also phew just the bearded Viking of my dreams. Just pining away in the best way, figuring his life out and just knowing it needed to include Maria. I won't say more but I adored their relationship and seeing the call backs to the earlier books. And I just love how she wrote two fat characters in love, and in love with each other's bodies. The crap that Hollywood puts them through and how they just are. This is a story of two people who happen to be fat and I loved that..
I could gush for hours but read this book, read this series. I just need more Olivia Dade books.
Steam: 3.5
This is my third Olivia Dade book, and I think I'm going to take it as a sign that unfortunately, her books aren't really for me. Spoiler Alert was okay, but I had trouble suspending disbelief enough to find any of it really believable, and I enjoyed All The Feels significantly less. Ship Wrecked was ... fine, I guess, but felt much less compelling. I had to push myself through most of it because it just wasn't super interesting to me.
I like books that involve fandom a lot, but the issue with them is that they can be really hit or miss. This one was slightly less egregious because it involved two actors vs an actor and a fan or something similar, but it still didn't quite work for me. This also might be too "sensitive" or something but I think writing fanfiction about real people is incredibly weird and inappropriate and while I know that these characters aren't real, I guess I just don't like that these feel like they condone the concept of it?
I was prepared to really dislike Peter because of the attitude at the beginning, but he was fine, and so was Maria, so I didn't really take any issues with the characters. My main issue with the plot/conflict was how pointless it felt. I'm not an actor so I guess I have no clue but like ... if they're actors, wouldn't they already be prepared to spend time apart? Isn't that just how the industry works? It felt like a weird hill to suddenly be ready for her to die on, regardless of her past traumas and all that. It just didn't work for me - it felt super low stakes and just didn't feel like it added all that much to the climax of the book.
Overall, probably like 2/5.
I have loved Olivia Dade's novels for their wit, romance, and body positive messages. This one was a bit uneven, though. I like that she started out with sex, but the we-like-each-other-but-can't went on for so long. And it just became a slog to read at times.
A one night stand who turns out to be your coworker for the next six years? Sounds awful in theory. As a reader, I'm here for it.
Maria and Peter have a scorching night together, but she leaves without a trace in the morning. I definitely appreciated the backstory as to why Peter was so upset about her disappearance...and I also understood Maria's past and why she did what she did. The book showcased both their hangups from their pasts and how they worked through it in the end.
This pair finds themselves as co-stars of a hit show (Game of Thrones season 8 messiness with show runners, anyone?). The only problem is that while they're part of a large ensemble cast, they're the only two together for six years (Shipwrecked, duh).
I'm all for a second chance romance, but I did feel like Peter and Maria's journey into friendship was glossed over. The book has a time jump with past text conversations interspersed...but I found myself missing their friendship blossom.
Even though I missed reading snippets of their friendship while filming, I ate up the banter between Peter and Maria (and I LOVE when the banter doesn't end at any stage of their relationship). Her Swedish nicknames for Peter were amazing and I adored that Peter was head over heels for Maria since day one. This book was very cute and such an easy read. I definitely enjoyed my time reading their story!
And thank you to Avon and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
