This was a DNF for me. I tried. Múltiple times and with new formats, and I just couldn't get into the story.
3.5 stars.
I tried taking notes as I read so I could give a decent review, but the only note I took was “Not a fan of Maria at all”. It’s hard to enjoy a story when you don’t enjoy the characters. Parts of Peter and Maria’s chemistry was charming, but mostly it was just brash and repetitive. In general I find most of Olivia Dadd’s work to be be over-the-top and long-winded (All the Feels is a slight exception). Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC to review.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review! I had been hearing about this book for months, and I believe that this book had a lot of potential. I loved the concept, the body positivity, and the cover but the execution didn't fully work for me. I had a hard time enjoying either mc, which made the book drag. The six-year time jump also took away the audience's ability to see Peter and Maria's relationship evolve. Even though this book wasn't for me, I still think that our patrons will enjoy it and that it will be flying off the shelves.
Absolutely out of the park. I love anything Olivia Dade does but man Peter and Maria hit me in the feels.
Their one night stand turns into a work relationship and best friendship which then turns into lovers 7 years later so it’s a lot of tension in the best way.
I loved the interplay of the interviews and the show filming/scenes with the story. I felt like it rounded out the romance and made it extra tense and steamy.
I think both characters had such amazing growth and I just cannot get over them. Seriously dream relationship.
I am so happy to have gotten to check this one out- it was fabulous and I look forward to the next release.
Thank you for the advanced copy!
After reading (and loving!) Spoiler Alert and All The Feels, my expectations were extremely high for this book. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with Maria and Peter’s story as strongly as I did with the other two novels in this series.
Maria was such a fun, strong lead that I really liked. Peter is a bit more cautious and timid so it made sense to me that he wouldn’t make any sort of move as they worked together. With her candid and upfront personality, I kept wanting Maria to push Peter out of his comfort zone and just go for it. I think this book is perfect for those who love slow burn romance but the relationship pacing felt a little slow for me. I could see how well these two characters would compliment each other and I just wanted them to open up a bit sooner. Just as with the other books in this series, I love how this story focuses on body positivity. I also found the character development and writing to be really engaging and I cannot wait to see what Olivia Dade writes next.

Oh my gosh this was such an amazing book! This story centers of Peter and Maria, two fat actors who land a role as a couple on a remote island on a famous Game of Thrones-esque show. The only problem is that they had a one night stand the night before the audition when they knew they would be working together in a remote location for the next six years. They agree to keep things professional...
WHEW this book opened with a ~bang~ and honesly kept the sexual tension GOING. There was so much pining happening over the course of the book. I like that the plot of the show was weaved in a bit as well. This book really had such emotional depth. I feel like I really understood Peter and Maria after reading it. This book also highlights the struggles that they both have to go through to be recognized as legitimate and talented actors, just because of their size. We see these two going from lovers, to standoffish co-workers, to really forming a bond on the set of the show. They also have to discover how to navigate their feelings for one another with fan culture - I was dying laughing when their co-star would send them fan fiction of them as a couple LOL. Overall, this novel just felt so real to me.
⭐️⭐️ I finished it but didn’t connect or care about the characters. The weird time jumps and Peter’s attitude towards Maria put me off. The sex scenes weren’t great either. I’ve come to realize that Olivia Dade’s writing style is just not for me.
DNF about 30% in. I wasn’t really vibing with the male main character and the writing style. Just not for me.
***Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
I have loved Olivia Dade's books about the Gods of Gates characters, but this one did not quite live up to the amazing previous installments. I loved the body positive aspect and the witty banter is always spot-on, but it felt like something was missing.
As a fan of Olivia Dade’s work and the previous two novels in this series, I was so excited to receive an advanced reader copy of this book. While I love the idea of this book - two plus side main characters, second chance romance after a one night stand, OMG they were costars - the execution really fell flat for me. The scenes when they were filming just seemed kind of odd to me, then there was a big time skip in the middle and then of course the final conflict just seemed kind of blah. There were elements I enjoyed like the mutual pining and the fact that the female main character refused to conform to expectations but overall it was a just okay romance novel.
Thank you net galley and Avon for an eARC of this book.
Olivia Dade always writes a beautiful book. While this wasn't quite a memorable as the first book in the series, it's still a great read!
I wanted to love this book so much, I really did. I am all for body positive MC's, as a full figure myself, but I find it extremely redundant and shallow to have it be one of the only repeated themes over the course of the book. The storyline was lackluster and while I always love multiple timelines this one was very incohesive. It jumped all over the place with no warning or reasoning and was very hard to follow. This rating makes me sad because I love Olivia Dade but this one was very much just not for me.
Thank you Olivia Dade, Avon and Harper Voyager, and NetGalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Maria and Peter have a one night stand only to find out that they have both been casted in the show Gods of the Gates and they are isolated on a remote island together for seven years with the crew members. As they spend the seven years trying to distant themselves, as time passes they cannot deny the connection they feel.
This book is my favorite of the Spoiler Alert trilogy. I loved watching both Peter and Maria grow in the ways they needed to to heal from past experiences. I love the body positivity and not backing down from what you believe is right.
Although I loved the first two books in this series, this one didn't hit the same. It felt like I was watching a highlights reel of the story rather than actually getting to know the characters and their emotions as the story built, which made the final conflict hard to believe. I did, however, love that both characters are fat in this book - and I would have loved it even more if Peter's body had received the same attention that Maria's did.
Olivia Dade has a knack for writing the most lovable characters! Thoroughly have enjoyed all of her books and this one is no different.
Golly gee, what can I say about the wonderful Olivia Dade? The author of Spoiler Alert and All The Feels has written a fabulous third book in her Gods of the Gates series— Ship Wrecked. What I love about the characters Dade writes in this book (well, in all her books), is their confidence and resilience; she writes very well-rounded human characters. The fun banter between Maria and Peter, plus the 6 year slow burn crush and the explosive chemistry. Yeah, this book was a 3.5 stars! But since i can’t give that, 4 stars!
I loved this!!! I love how BOTH main characters are plus sized!! Yes to more men not having wash board abs (yawnnnn). In true Dad fashion the female main character was headstrong and unapologetically her! I love the chemistry and when two people just can not stop themselves from physically touching. I struggled with the first book in this series and even though you can read them as standalone, like always, I would suggest you read them in order. If to only get used to her writing style, Its not crazy or anything but I had a hard time being drawn in when I first start reading BUT once I am... its game time because I fall in love!!!! Also as someone who doesn't have a kid I love a story that doesn't end in pregnancy or children. All lifestyles represented!!!
Maria and Peter have a one-night stand. It was a mind-blowing night that neither of them will forget any time soon. However, when Peter wakes up the next morning, Maria is gone.
Little do either of them know, they're about to meet again in the most unexpected way. Maria and Peter are both cast as characters in the show Gods of the Gates and the best part--they will be spending the next seven years isolated on a remote island together. The only other people with them are the crew members.
Peter is still hurt from Maria's abrupt departure after their night together and her attempts at apologizing are mostly dismissed. However, as time passes and their characters become more involved on-screen, Maria and Peter can't help but feel the connection they had that night.
Ship Wrecked is the final (?) book of the Spoiler Alert series. While I'm sad the series is over, I think this book really helped tie everything together. One of my favorite scenes is when all of the cast we've met throughout the series finally meet each other. My only issue with this book was the scene where Peter does not take Maria's side after she is faced with the prospect of being forced to change her body for the show. I already wasn't sure if I truly liked Peter, but when this happens it was a huge factor in his likability. Overall, there were some great tension scenes and Peter somewhat redeems himself.
This is a really well done romance with two flawed, complicated, relatable main characters. I really enjoyed the development of their friendship plus the pining and unspoken feelings. Both characters have to reckon with getting past their own hangups and ideas of how they "should" live their lives to get to the HEA. I think the best part of this book is the outstanding body positivity. I thought it was even better than books 1 and 2 in this series. The hurdles to the relationship are mental and emotional, not physical. Both characters are comfortable in their own skin, and I loved that. I'm probably not as into the tv show fandom side of this series as other readers (I never watched GOT) but that didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story.
I'm writing this now because the strike is over. This one wasn't my favorite, but I still enjoyed it. I wasn't a fan of the FMC tho. I admired her for the way she felt about her rights and the way her body was shown, but I didn't like the way everything was her way or no way when dealing with the MMC. She never compromised with him and it was annoying. He deserved to be seen too.
