I always get so excited about a second-chance romance and after reading the blurb of this one the excitement just went up. I thoroughly enjoyed the setting of this novel I love the cat cafe and all of the baking. Although the plot did keep me interested and I liked Lindsey and Brad well enough I found a lot of the discussions they had to be repetitive and pointless at times. I liked how understanding Brad was of Lindsey and all the struggles she was going through. Although by no means were these characters perfect I found that to be what I liked about them because it only made them more real.

Sadly, I didn't manage to finish this book before it was archived. However, what I did read was very good.

Uggh...I really wanted to like this one, but I just wasn't connecting to any part of it. I didn't hate it, I just didn't love it, and I had to really push through finishing it. Maybe it was the trope not being my favorite (second chance romance), or the frustrating will they or won't they, but this one just wasn't my favorite.

I really liked the overall premise of this story and really enjoyed many parts of it. In the end though, I found myself gloss over some parts and being a little bored. Maybe that's due to me not having read the first two books in this series.

Have you ever been to a cat cafe?

I’ve never been to one but I’d like to one day! The Whitman Street Cat Cafe is one of the main settings in Chasing Your Tail by Kate McMurray, and it sounds adorable. 😻

Aaaand that might have been the only part of the book I enjoyed. 😬 This book had potential to be a cute second-chance romance, but it wasn’t for me in the end. I finished it, mostly due to finding the audio on Hoopla, but I found myself skimming (what’s the audiobook equivalent of skimming?!) because of a variety of issues.

First, I didn’t buy into the chemistry of the two main characters. I’m sure others who read this will have no problem seeing the magic but it just wasn’t there for me.

The story got really repetitive at the 75% mark. The same conversations (internal and external) kept happening over and over AND OVER again. Both of the main characters had issues but dang, Lindsey needed some help. Her character was crying out for some guidance and I wish therapy would have been part of the storyline. It’s wonderful when people can work through their issues on their own, but in this case, the MC couldn’t and it would have been nice to see professional help worked into the book.

Apart from the lack of chemistry, repetitiveness, and my issue with the absence of counseling support (yes, there’s more I didn’t love 🤣) there were multiple scenes that felt unnecessary to the story. I think having fewer of these odd side scenes would have made the book move a little faster. I know this is part of a series (I haven’t read the others) and it seemed like the book was trying to do too much catching up with the other characters’ lives.

There were also some really strange placements of homophobic and racist language. I think the author was trying to show that these are still very real issues everywhere...but they’re never actually spoken out against by the characters so it comes across as “these things exist. Oh well.”

Sooo I probably should have DNFed this one but I’m kind of glad I didn’t because now I can share my thoughts on the entire book.

As always, give this one a try if the synopsis sounds good to YOU! Our different tastes in books is one of the things I love about being book lovers. ❤️

Chasing Your Tail is a second chance romance featuring two culinary school graduates as they try to reconnect five years after heartbreak. They've gone their separate ways, but now their paths are colliding once again. Brad is a serial flirt who may or may not have cheated on Lindsay. Lindsay is a food writer with trust issues. Brad works at Lindsay's best friend's cat cafe and they have several run-ins as they try to figure out if they're both willing to give things another shot.

I liked the premise a lot, I liked the idea of second chances involving a cat cafe. However, I just could NOT get behind the characters in this one. Brad was super annoying to me. His dad being a bigot is the reason for one of less likable qualities (serial flirting), which he never fully tries to get rid of. He just accepts it as part of himself that has to be dealt with by anyone he's involved with. He loves shifting the blame for things onto Lindsay, even after admitting he's part of the problem. His attitude throughout this book is just such a turn-off. I personally could not get into the story overall and just found myself becoming more and more annoyed as it went on. I loved the food sections - that's where the characters all shine. But the dialogue between the main couple just doesn't feel right to me. If there were more cooking together, food moments, I likely would've enjoyed this more. Those parts felt great.

Lindsay I liked. I understood where she was coming from and I understand her hesitation to take risks. She's easier to follow and understand than Brad, very often. The book also doesn't do a good job of showing time passing so it's not clear how long Brad is putting effort in when he's getting frustrated which makes him feel impatient instead of worn out from putting in effort. Honestly, I would've much rather read the love story of Lindsay's gay friend, Evan. His love life seems far more interesting and I bet he'd be way more fun to read about than Brad.

This book would likely be awesome for readers who can relate heavily to the relationship dynamic between Lindsay and Brad, who also love second chances as a trope.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks/Casablanca for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a 2nd chance romance. I liked the main characters. Lindsay and Brad are fun. This seemed a little sappy but ok. A pretty quick read. 3.5 stars

Oh man. It took me a while to get my thoughts around this book. It started off strong and then after 1/3rd of the way through, I just didn’t want to pick it up. I thought I was because I was reading other books and trying to get though some library books, but when I picked it up the other day I realized that it was just that every chapter was just the same a the previous.

They can’t get over their trust issues. They don’t know how to be together. His father is homophonic. Blah, blah, blah. There was just nothing to moving the plot forward from 30-60%. I decided to stop torturing myself and DNF at 61%

Pastry chef Brad Marks is the newest addition to the Whitman Street cat cafe, where treats are made and served to both people and cats alike. All the customers love Brad and writer Lindsay Somers did too until Brad broke her heart years before. She is assigned to write a story on the cat cafe, which leads to her being back in Brad's life.
The description of this book was more interesting than the actual book to me. It wasn't completely terrible but it could have been better. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

I generally love second chance romances but this one just missed the mark for me and I ended up not finishing the book. This book featured Brad, a chef cooking treats for humans and cats alike at the Whitman Street Cat Cafe, and Lindsay, his ex. Overall this had good potential but the long, drawn out push/pull between them just went on too long for me.

3.5/5*

I was really glad to step back into this series once i saw that this book was getting published. While i do enjoy a second chance romance story, i felt that this story lacked something. We meet Brad and Lindsey who once dated for five years but broke up due to a misunderstanding on brad’s part. While i personally don’t condone cheating at all, i wasn’t a fan of Lindsey having to bring it up almost every time when these two were together. There were ups and downs after they see each other, but the way Lindsey handled it for some reason i wasn’t a huge fan of. And even though most of us knows how the story ends, i felt that there was something missing. Maybe it could’ve been a bit more dramatic who knows. It was missing something that’s for sure.

It was nice to see Lauren and the other characters from the previous two books to play catch up and how their lives have been since we’ve last saw them. Though i do hope for evan’s story one day.

Despite all of it, i did enjoy it the book but sadly not as much as I’d anticipated. I do hope we get to see more of them soon especially the kitties

*thank you netgalley and the publishers for the copy of this e arc**

This is my first book in this series. The concept is what made me want to read this one. imagine your ex being hired at your bestie's work. You now have to avoid and/or see him regularly.

And to make things more awkward he wants you back. He wants to explain and he wants to work things out.

Lindsay is trying to live her best life as a restaurant review Yes so what she has had trust issues since her parent device and she never got over Brad but she is thriving

Brad has found an opportunity to work at a place where he can make the menu and have the freedom - it's just a win-win that the girl he never got over is best friends with the owner

This romance was cute with a bit of grit. I loved that Linday and Brad work through their issues as adults and recognized their issues.

I did think this was a bit too long and a little repetitive. Once the issue of what broke them up, and how they can fix it was established I was a little bored with the plot.

what would have been kinda new is if some sort of couples therapy was added to the story. All in all, this was a cute romance

Great fun read about love and cats. Lovely writing from this author. Thank you to net galley for letting me review this

A man who bakes, a cat cafe, and a load of great side characters should have made this book great. Unfortunately, I hated Lindsay (the female lead). She was so tiresome. She is super wishy-washy and constantly bickers with Brad (the male lead). How he handled it, I'll never understand. I didn't care about them as a couple at all.

This book will go on my short list of books where the female lead doesn't deserve the male lead.

I will not be posting this on my socials since my rating is so low, but I will post to Goodreads.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for this book in exchange for an honest review.

Only the sappiest romances for me please!! Loved this can't wait to read more by the Kat McMurray, loved the story, characters and plot. blew through this in a matter of hours

This is straight-up a 2000s rom-com. I cannot find a sappier romance these days. I am jealous of fictional people right now, lol.

I wanted to love this story as the premise in the description and overall cover made me look forward to reading it. And something was not exactly in favor here (in my mind at least).
The heart of our MC was broken five years ago - Lindsey - and now she has to deal with her ex when he starts to work at her best friend's cafe. Awkwardness coming HARD! And why Lindsey and her ex are getting on the same orbit - she's a journalist who critiques restaurants and this is what she does for a living. Do you need to know more about her? Well not here... which makes us not able to connect with her...
To be honest I don't know what to think about Brad... he's a pastry chef that started working at the cafe that's owned by Lindsey's friend. He can make friends with anyone, but our h is not his fan due to well-known reasons. Yet this could be avoided...but those characters were not talking and trying to resolve what had happened (in a really childish way...).
Eh... they did not amend what had happened in their past, but after one event they started something more between each other, which did not make sense, unfortunately... I thought why I could not connect with this book - so maybe the reason was that Chasing Your Tail is book 3 in a series (but it's not connected to the way characters were crafted)..

Brad and Lindsey are exes, and now he is working for her friends in her favorite coffee shop. She was wrong years ago, but will it mean a second chance for them.
Great read, looking forward to more books from this author.

I did not like this book. I didn't like the characters, together or on their own. And some of the characters actions made me extremely uncomfortable.
