Read this before bed to Mr 3 who really enjoyed it, there were a couple of bigger words which he didnt quite understand but overall it was good.
This one tells the precious story of father and daughter. The father works late, and his daughter is usually already asleep when he gets home. Every time she hears him come home, though, she cannot contain her joy and runs to greet him at the door, where she’s welcomed with a tender embrace, hug, and kiss. Her dad always ends up tucking her back into bed. Desperate to keep her dad with her for longer, the daughter grabs her dad’s very large ring of keys, and begins to question him about what each key is for. Thus begins her dad’s wildly entertaining and imaginative story about what all of his strange keys are for, ranging from his rocket ship, to a corral of wild animals, to a pirate’s treasure chest, and everything in between. In the end, her dad lets her know that the smallest and simplest key is the most magic. Why? Because it’s the key that opens their home and brings him to his daughter and family. Cue the tears. This one is absolutely adorable.
When Daddy Tucks Me In is a heartwarming story about a father and daughter relationship and how they both look forward to him coming home after a long at work. The daughter looks forward to hearing his key in the door and the key to the front door holds special significance as it lets him in every day.
It captures the love felt by both the daddy and the daughter and reflects what happens in homes around the world. It’s a lovely story. The art work is a little odd and could be a little more ‘child friendly’/cute but the story still hits the mark.
When Daddy Tucks Me In is such a beautiful book and I have found it’s brought a special bond between my daughter and husband.
We have many books about Me and Daddy but none like this. My daughter has been. Asking every night for this book and has asked it be added to her birthday wish list.
This will def be a go to purchase for friends/family with kids once it is out on the shelves!
A cute story about a daughter excited for her dad to get home from work and tuck her into bed. She asks questions about his keys and he tells her fun and imaginative stories about what they could be for. The illustrations are cute and the book's story promotes a healthy bond between dad and daughter.

This is a delightful book where a dad returns home and tucks his daughter in bed.
Imagination runs wild as she asks him about his keys and he tells her about a zippenburger, a rocket, space noodles, a cookie factory and a mammoth.
The most important key, he says, is the one he uses every night to get into the house to tuck her in bed.
This charming book is sure to delight and entertain, filled with wonderful illustrations and marvellous imagery.
This is an ARC.
When Daddy Tucks Me In
Everyone loves a key and every key has its own story. A beautifully written and illustrated book showing us the unique relationship between a father and daughter during his re-telling of his exciting day at work. #CookieTaster
i just cannot help but get a little weepy reading about healthy father-daughter relationships, because i just don't think there are enough of those in media .'when daddy tucks me in' tells a heartwarming story of the bond between a father who works long hours and his daughter whom he never fails to tuck into bed and tell bedtime stories to. it's an incredibly sweet read that had me smiling the whole time :) *thank you, netgalley, for the eARC!*
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy to review before this is set to be published next year!
This was SUCH a sweet read! When Daddy Tucks Me In is about a father who often works late and long hours but when he comes home he creates bedtime stories for his daughter. This was originally published in New Zealand in 2014 with the title "Daddy's Magic Keys," and as he tucks his daughter into bed, she asks about all the keys on his key ring. He creates an adventurous story for each one until his daughter points to the last key. The last key is the most plain but the most special because it's his house key. Super cute!
A dad comes home late from work, and together with his daughter, he imagines all the fantastical places his large set of keys will open. This story is adorable--a beautiful ode to hardworking parents whose favorite place is home with their children. The illustrations are sweet and the language throughout is so fun!
More beautiful stories between fathers and daughters, please! This was a heartwarming tale of a dad who works long hours coming home and telling his daughter stories to put her to bed. How adorable! There isn't anything more than that for what this book is doing, but it doesn't have to do more. It's rare to see the father/daughter bond shown in books (unless it's in a negative light) so I applaud this and want to see more books like this. I see that this book was first released in New Zealand with another title and I'm just happy that it is getting a wider release and more children can get to read this.
I was drawn to this book because of its title and it's cover. My daughter loves nothing more than her bedtime routine with her dad and I think they would enjoy reading this book together, although this father has many more adventures to speak of than my husband. This was a sweet story, but I do not think I would read it in my classroom.
Miigweetch to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Kids for the DRC.
A charming and wholesome bedtime tale for children that centers on a little girl, her father, and her father’s key ring. There are lots of little details in the story and illustration which make excellent topic extensions to help beginning readers develop their skills. Lovely illustrations complement the story.
There are a lot of words in this book, so this might be a better choice for a read-aloud than a read-along, depending on your reader’s abilities. I recommend this to any adult looking for a bedtime story, but especially girl dads and parents that work irregular hours, whose children might relate to the familiar feeling of elation from hearing keys jingle at the door.
Thank you Sourcebook Kids and NetGalley for the ARC of this wholesome children's book!
This story is the perfect bedtime story for little ones. The father tells his daughter about many of his work keys and the strange and unique places the keys unlock.
There is a lot of details to look at while reading through, all of which are very unique and can make the reader laugh.
I read this to both my daughters (age 6 and 11). My youngest had a lot of good laughs while my oldest said it was very wholesome and a great read for children.
The story has a good amount of writing to it, making it the perfect story for putting kids to bed with. I will be recommending it to my friends and family!
Daddy Tucks me in is such a sweet bedtime story am sure little children will adore. I loved the warm father daughter relationship that takes center stage in this book.
In this picture book, we follow and unnamed girl who's father does not come home in time Daily to tuck her in and how one day when she gets up after hearing the turn of his keys at the door, what follows is an adventure told through stories about the keys.
I seriously adored this book and it's lovely illustrations.
This book is a really fun adventure book with a sweet message. I loved the dad's stories of what his different keys do; the stories felt unique and were exciting. Cool illustrations too!
This is such a sweet story. Daddy does not have a 9-5 job and his little daughter lays in bed and awakens when she hears his keys jingle, jangle in the door. She knows her beloved daddy has arrived home and jumps out of bed to greet him with a HUGE smile and hug!
He scoops her up and takes her back to bed to lovingly tuck her in for the night. Before she sleeps he tells her magical, marvelous stories about the keys that appear on his key ring.
Daddy is a genius at storytelling and imparts how these keys are interwoven with what he does during his days away from her. One unlocks a zippenburger that delivers him to work, another a treasure box full of priceless jewels in the jungle, and another the door to a chocolate cookie factory where he is lucky enough to be taste tester for the yummy cookies, just to highlight a few.
Daddy showcases a plain metal key which is the most significant one to him. His little girl waits to find out why her Daddy loves it the most. That key unlocks their door and behind that door is his precious little girl whom he values more than anything else in his life.
This heartwarming tale is a perfect bedtime story. It is full of adventure and highlights the bonding and love between a father and a his cherished little daughter. It is a fantastic book which I highly recommend!
NetGalley ARC of coming 2023 publication: "When Daddy Tucks Me In"
Read-Aloud: one-on-one
Tags: bedtime, fathers, paramedics, keys
The author of CANNONBALL (2020) brings readers another wonderful story. WHEN DADDY TUCKS ME IN (formerly published in New Zealand as KEYS) is great for bedtime reading. This tale of a paramedic father who returns late at night after his child has gone to bed invites readers into wonderful new worlds corresponding to each key on the parent's keyring; the most important being saved for last.
Available March 2023. Recommended.
This book is the perfect bedtime story! It tells the story of a little girl who goes to bed but listens for the jingle of her daddy's keys in the door when he arrives home from work a bit after her bedtime. She asks him to tuck her in again and also what each of the keys does. He makes up silly explanations for the use of his many keys, but the last one is the most important one and he definitely saves the best for last. This is a nice, simple, story that has just enough fun and adventure, and just enough love and care that it makes for the perfect joyful reading experience between a parent at child. I would recommend this book to parents of children in the age 4-8 range, especially those with a parent who works shift work and/or is not often there at bedtime. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!
