I really wanted to love this one but unfortunately this was not the case.

A second chance romance with a hormonal teen throw in.

Everyone was trying to deal with their trauma, good news is some of them got therapy, bad news was that I felt like this book was never going to end.

I absolutely enjoyed this book. This was my first book by the author. This book will have you on an emotional rollercoaster. I loved Yasmine! This book did a wonderful job of handling grief mental health in the black community.

One of the most beautiful stories about giving love a second chance that one could read. Kennedy Ryan is an absolute genius when it comes to writing novels that are so raw and real and make you feel all the things.

** spoiler alert ** I went into this book not knowing what exactly if I would like this book…Baby this story was beautifully written! I also hated all the main characters except the son and the dog 😩. What I’m trying to say is the author wrote two unlikeable characters with a story that kept me wrapped! I appreciated the authors time with both Yasmen and Josiah’s journey to healing, I felt like their love story came secondary to the love. Overall what a journey from start to finish. I know some people aren’t going to like me when I say I had more of an issue with Vashti than Mark. Mark was expected but Vashti girl?! Why are you at another woman’s house playing house with her kids and ex husband?? No one thought to do that from his home? And this is where I was mad 7 chapters in because Yasmen has no right to be upset Josiah is dating, Josiah you are a damn fool for brining a lover to your exe’s house and making memory with your kids, and Vashti you are not dumb you participated in that foolishness! Like I’m disappointed these characters were not likeable but baby was the story good that I bypassed that. Which gets back to Kennedy’s writing being so good to pull that emotion out of me. Will I reread this, probably not right away but definitely in the future. Overall good story more wine’s fiction than romance and please read TW before starting this book!

Omg! A must read! Kennedy Tyan is worth alll the hype! This book kept me entertained from start to finish! Yasmine and Josiah went though it! From marriage that seemed unbreakable to Josiah cheating and ending up with his side chick. Let's just say you will not be bored! A must read. A page turner 5 out of 5 stars!

Yasmine and Josiah seemed to have it all. The perfect marriage, two kids and a thriving restaurant in Atlanta. When tragedy strikes their family not once, but twice their perfect world starts to fall apart. With both coping with their tragedy in different ways, they draw further and further apart. Divorced they seem to be managing well, they’re co-parenting their kids and the restaurant is doing better than it ever has. Things are so good, everyone around them wonders how they do it. When Josiah starts dating the restaurants head Chef Vashti, Yasmine finds herself becoming jealous. Yasmine realizes maybe divorcing Josiah was a mistake and maybe she’s still in love with him. Josiah is excited about trying to move on, but in the back of his mind he knows no one can ever compare to Yasmine. Josiah feels strongly, he could never go back to her after she blew up their marriage. Trying to avoid their feelings is becoming harder and harder, but can they ever get back to where they once were. Will Josiah be willing to take another chance on the woman’s he’s loved since the moment he first saw her?

I really loved this book. The characters were well written and the story flowed so well. I loved how it touched on grief, depression, love, acceptance. This book really gives you all the emotions and I am not usually a romance buff. I know it is said this is book one and I really hope there is another book in the series that may explore some of the other characters like Yasmine’s friend Soledad. My only complaints in the book are the use of too many nicknames. Every character has a shortened version of their names as a nickname (Yas, Si, Day, Seem, Sol, Hen) and it just came off as overdone and unrealistic. I also rolled my eyes over the way the author described the male genitalia, calling it “steel, brick or wood” was so cheesy and honestly not how Black people really talk. I know this author is Black and she’s written many different books, but this book centered on a Black family should have used verbiage that is used in the Black community. Those small annoyances didn’t change my love for the book and my hope that there is another book and this becomes a series. I want to thank Kennedy Ryan for sending me this ARC.

Another amazing book by Kennedy Ryan! I absolutely love this story between Yas and Josiah. I loved that we were able to live in their respective heartbreak and at the end their love and happiness. The emotions explored in this book were really raw and it made me feel everything. I felt like I was going through everything thing with this family and rooting for them along the way. This book will definitely have my heart and cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out.

For as much as I loved Reel this was low-key disappointing. Going into it I honestly expected to shed a tear or two but despite dealing with some heavy subjects (for which I didn’t see a content warning) I never really connected with the story or characters. I didn’t feel that depth of emotion I was expecting.

All the stars. All of them for Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan.

Every book I’ve read by Kennedy Ryan has left me emotionally drained by the end. This book is so raw, emotional, and authentic. It’s a look at love not always being enough to sustain a marriage through tragic events and what happens after. It’s about hope, healing, and second chances.

Kennedy Ryan is a master at writing heavy, emotional topics and also infusing the story with joy, hope, and steamy moments. I dare you to read one of her books and not cry. I cannot. I bawled through sections of this one as I have her other books. While my grief is not the same as what Yasmen experienced, this quote resonated for me:

"When you lose someone that close, the enormity, the finality of it, sometimes hits you full force when you least expect it. When you are least prepared. And your heartbeat stutters and your knees nearly buckle, just like when you first heard they were gone... you never banish the grief completely."

Thank you @kennedyryan for writing this book and handling the topics with such care. I cannot stop thinking of this one. I loved this book for its vulnerability, healing, and intimate moments.

Yasmen and Josiah Wade are a divorced couple that seem to be great at being business partners of a popular restaurant, as well as coparents of two wonderful kids. That’s only the surface, however. As Kennedy Ryan takes us further into this story we see the losses, pain, grief in their past, and how they cope (or fail to), and accept or change in the present. The author really delivers and makes you wonder where this wild ride will take us.

“Before I Let Go” has it all - endless love, hitting rock bottom, friendship, lust, problems with the teenage daughter and much more. I cried and blushed while reading this book. And special thanks to Kennedy for the recipes at the end of the book, I enthusiastically look forward to trying out the pound cake recipe.

This was gorgeous and tender, and managed to capture the frustration and trust that (for me) only comes with the closeness of a partner relationship. A lot of people have said that some of the themes are brutal, so I was a little tense going in, but luckily I have not had to deal with a lot of the things that Yasmen and Josiah go through, so I didn’t struggle with it. I did however, emotionally connect with the mom struggle over parenting a strong-willed teen daughter — just things I worry about! I loved how brightly draw the details of their lives were, and watching them navigate through the trials that life brought them and rejoice in their victories was extremely rewarding.

Sheer and utter devastation. That's how I feel right now after finishing this book, and somehow I'm wishing that I'd read it sooner? This story heavily features death, divorce, and depression yet is able to also focus on hope and honesty. Yasmen and Josiah's love story is hard to read at times, but they show such growth as characters throughout. Kennedy Ryan focuses on the stigma around therapy for Black men, the tragic grief that comes with losing a child, and the feeling of fighting for yourself against waves of depression. It's painful and tender, and I need the next story in the Skyland Series 10 minutes ago, thank you.

Before I Let Go paints a powerful and achingly authentic portrait of the complexities of modern day marriage. It’s a love story that tells it like it is- warts and all, reminding the reader that love alone isn’t always enough. Though an emotional read, it’s well rounded with fleshed out supporting characters and a relevant backstory.

Fans of heart wrenching second chance love stories shouldn’t let Before I Let Go pass them by.

This was my first book by Kennedy Ryan (I KNOW 🙈). My romance reads have tapered off in the past few years but I really enjoyed this one! For me, this story was an emotional one as the two protagonists are already divorced. Yasmen and Josiah are older main characters who have two children, a thriving restaurant and a close group of friends. The story unfolds slowly to give a full picture as to why this couple - who still care about each other - actually divorced.



The author treats depression and grief with a careful hand but balances these themes with humor and great sensitivity. Both characters have their hands full with parenting, their business and trying to date again. Their chemistry together seemed very natural and although at times they did not seem as though they could find their way back to each other, rest assured this book has a beautiful ending.



There was no unnecessary drama and both parents put their children first no matter what was going on between the two of them. I also loved how the city of Atlanta was almost another important character in this book.



If you like contemporary romance, then you will love this book. There’s lots of good banter, steamy chemistry and a storyline featuring characters who have lived a little. Many thanks to the publisher for providing a digital review copy! All opinions are my own.

Kennedy Ryan is such a talented author and this was a very well written work. I enjoyed it immensely even if I didn't connect with the characters and story as much as I wanted to. Still a solid recommend!

Unfortunately this was a DNF for me.... I have seen so many raving reviews for it. I was excited about the premise of second chance romance after everything they went through. I kept pushing myself till over the halfway point, but it was just not doing it for me. I'm sure it will be a hit for a lot of readers, but it was a miss for me.

This book right here is a beautiful piece of work. I had to take my time reading this book even though I wanted to know what would happen next. There were so many emotions that came up while reading this book, because I could relate to some of the situations. I needed that, because let me know that there are somethings that I need to do.

Great Job KennedyRyan. I know you stated that it took 15 years to write this book and I'm here to tell you that it was worth it. I don't normally reread books, but I will most definitely read this one again. I can't wait to listen to the audiobook. ❤💐❤💐❤💐

Whew Chile, this is a romance of all romance novels for me. I have not read anything like it. I recommend everyone to read this book.

This book was heartbreaking and beautiful, but there is a lot of trauma wrapped up in this book. I really liked the story and the characters were very well-developed, but I think I wasn't in the right headspace to read about this much trauma.

This is my first Kennedy Ryan book and she did not disappoint! This was such a beautiful story. I definitely teared up a few times. For Yasmen and Josiah to go through everything they went through and still finding their way back to each other was something. I like the way mental health was handled and talk of seeing a therapist. I'm so happy Josiah ended up getting therapy because he had a lot to work through in regards to his parents dying when he was young and the deaths of Henry and Aunt Byrd still weighing heavy on him.

She seemed sweet but baby I did not like the woman Josiah was seeing that worked in the restaurant! Vashti. I was a bit mad at him for even starting a relationship up with someone who works with him. Like dude find someone who doesn't work with you. I'm glad Vash ended up going to Charlotte. Also it was so cool to hear them talk about Charlotte and Noda. I'm hoping one of the books in the series will be set there :)

I'm just rambling now but this was so good and I'm glad the relationship with Yasmen and her daughter started to improve. I wanted to strangle her daughter early on in the book. Smiling all in Vashti's face while being rude to her mother. I understand why she was like that but still. Her mom did the best she could during one of the darkest times in her life. Show some respect!

Oh and I absolutely adored Hendrix and Soledad. PLEASE, I need to know what happens with Soledad and that ain't sh*t husband of hers. She was so sweet and deserves so much better.

Finished my first read of the year and I’m going to say something I’ve never said before. I’m going to say that this book will easily be one of my favorite books of the year. I realize that is a bold statement for January but this book was just THAT GOOD.

Before I Let Go follows a divorced couple as they navigate life, raising their children and running/owning a successful business together. This story explores so many heavy topics associated with the reality of having your life entwined with someone else’s even after you’ve dissolved your romantic relationship. Grief, depression and the normalization of therapy are also a main focus. It’s also a story of second chances. This one made me very emotional and I could not put it down. It is a book that I will (and have been) think about for a long time.

I can not believe that this is my first Kennedy Ryan book but it most certainly isn’t the last. Highly recommend. So SO so so good.
