Having lived in Ohio for a few years, I know who Fiona is and how wide her fanbase is! Fiona Goes to School was a fun read that kept both of my childrens' attention. Seeing Fiona interact with the other zoo animals was a whimsical aspect to the story. This would be a great beginning of the year book for preschoolers and kindergartners, as it goes over some of the basics of going to school (how we listen, how we participate, mode of transportation, etc).
Another cute story featuring Fiona the hippo. The illustrations are lovely. It would be perfect to read in a class setting at the beginning of the school year. Fiona learns about raising her hand (leg), listening and taking turns.
I would say this is more a Level 2 reader than a Level 1. But it is super cute regardless.
Thank you to Zondervan for providing an advanced copy for my honest review.
This is a great little book that’s easy for beginner readers. My daughter is just learning but really enjoyed spotting the words she knew as we went along. The “I Can Read” books have been a big hit in our home and this was among her favorites!
Thank you Netgalley and Zonderkidz-Books for the arc in exchange for an honest review!
Fiona notices that there are lots of kids at the zoo so she asks her mom where they came from - and her mom explains that they are on a field trip from school. Fiona has never heard of school so she asks her mom and her friends about it. She thinks school would be fun! So she and her friends decide to start a zoo school. Things are a little rough at first - Mr. Elephant only wants to teach about elephants while Snake wants to learn about snakes and Otter wants to learn about lakes... and Fiona wants books to be read. This looks like a problem that needs to be solved and Fiona is just the hippo to do that! Soon everyone is cooperating and learning together - and Fiona really enjoys school.
This would be a cute book to share with your beginning readers - especially if they are headed off to school for the first time in the fall!
I really enjoyed this book. It was very cute. I've followed Fiona's journey since she was born and now am excited that I can share that with my daughter as she learns to read.
Fiona LOVES school & we LOVE Fiona!!
Fiona the Hippo is back with Fiona Goes to School. A level 1 beginning reader book that full of adorable zoo animal characters. In this adventure Fiona Goes to School in the zoo. Each day the baby zoo animals are taught by a different adult animal at the zoo, so the baby animals learn more about one another, and they all have fun learning.
In this book we get to see Fiona up close in the amazing illustrations, and she is extra cute! The illustrations are bright, colorful and have a unique texture to them that really captures the reader's attention. Fiona is a fun-loving character, and we can't wait to see what she is up to next.
Young readers and parents will enjoy Fiona’s most recent adventure at school.
Grateful to have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley & Zonderkids
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
A great little story for those young school aged kids. Fiona Goes to School teaches about diversity and understanding and supporting each other as well as resolving conflict. This is going to be a loved beginning reader series.
FIona Goes to School is a cute book about Fiona the Hippo and her friends at the zoo. One day they see lots of kids at the zoo and Mama tells Fiona that they are on a school field trip. Fiona decides that the zoo should have their own school and she and her friends recruit Mr. Elephant to be their teacher. However, they realize that maybe they shouldn't just learn from one animal teacher but all the animals should get a turn to teach. Fiona and her friends learn so much about the different animal residents at the zoo and they love school!
This book would be a delightful book to read to young students who are gearing up to head to school and are feeling a bit afraid. Young readers could make connections to the things that Fiona and her friends do at school with the things that they will do when they head to school. With lots of sight words, good dialogue, and fun characters, young readers will find confidence while reading about Fiona's school adventures.
Thank you NetGalley and ZonderKidz for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
This was very cute! Perfect for reading level 1. I love to see this level of book with a developed plot. Funny, engaging and delightful for little readers.
This is an Easy to Read Children's book that I read with my twin boys. I really love this book, and I loved that Fiona just wanted a book to read to her. I found this book to be cute, and it was easy for my boys to read as well. We had so much fun taking turns reading the pages of this book. The pictures were fun and so cute. Great Children's book. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Zonderkidz) or author (Richard Cowdrey) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
I love hippos and so does my daughter. She loved this book and has asked to get the Fiona collection. I loved all the illustrations of different animals at the zoo. I also loved how much they loved "Zoo School" and learning!
This is a sweet introduction to school for preschoolers and rising kindergarteners. We adore Fiona’s inquisitiveness, and in this book, her curiosity about the number of kids at the zoo leads to her mother explaining about school field trips.
Fiona wants to go to school, too, so she and her animal friends gather together to learn about and create their own school. They learn some of the basics about what to expect and how to behave before studying other subjects. The illustrations portray the young animals’ excitement to be at school.
I would recommend this book to caregivers with young ones getting ready for or who are anxious about school. This would be a great addition to the classroom library as well.
Thank you to Zonderkidz and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
